| 1 | The role and significance of Magnesium in modern day research-A review显示文摘Magnesium is one of the largely available elements in the earth’s crust. It has a low structural density with high specific strength. This unique material property has forced an increase in the use of magnesium and its alloys in various applications pertaining to industrial sector,automobiles, aerospace and biomedical. Since magnesium is a highly reactive metal, it is prone to higher rate of corrosion as compared to its counterparts. Thus, it is essential to analyze the corrosion behavior of magnesium and its alloys in its applications. An appropriate process is to be followed in the design and development of magnesium alloys which overcome the limitations of magnesium and enhance the desired material properties in accordance to their applications. This review paper summarizes the importance of magnesium and its material properties. The influence of various alloying elements on the mechanical properties of magnesium is reviewed. The broad classification of Mg alloys and their behavioral trends are detailed. The corrosion behavior of magnesium and the influence of corrosion products on the material characteristics of magnesium, in aqueous medium, are discussed. The manufacturing techniques of magnesium alloys along with the secondary techniques are also covered. The various applications and the limitations of magnesium in these applications are covered. A complete section is dedicated towards detailing the recent trends of magnesium(Mg) alloys, i.e., the biodegradable nature and applications of Mg alloys. The influence of biocorrosion on Mg alloys and techniques to overcome it have been deliberated. | 2 | Influence of heat treatment on the machinability and corrosion behavior of AZ91 Mg alloy显示文摘In the present study,AZ91 Mg alloy was heat treated at 410℃ for 6,12 and 24 h to investigate the influence of heat treatment on machinability and corrosion behavior.The effect of soaking time on the amount and distribution of Mg 17 Al 12(β-phase)was analyzed under the optical microscope.Microhardness measurements demonstrated the increased hardness with increased heat treatment soaking time,which can be attributed to the solid solution strengthening.The influence of super saturatedα-grains on reducing the cutting force(F z)with respect to increased cutting speed was observed as prominent.The corrosion behavior of the heat treated specimens was studied by conducting electrochemical tests.Surprisingly,corrosion rate of heat treated samples was observed as increased compared with the base material.From the results,it is evident that the machinability of AZ91 Mg alloy can be improved by producing super saturatedα-grains through heat treatment but at the cost of losing corrosion resistance. | Swetha Chowdary V Ravikumar Dumpala Anand Kumar S Kondaiah VV Ratna Sunil B | 2018 | Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2018,6,1: | 7 |

| 4 | Effect of morin, a flavonoid against DOCA-salt hypertensive rats:a dose dependent study显示文摘Objective:To determine the protective effect of morin, a flavonoid against deoxycorticosterone acetate(DOCA)-salt induced hypertension in male Wistar rats.Methods:Hypertension was induced in uninephrectomized rats by weekly twice subcutaneous injection of DOCA(25 mg/kg bw) and 1% NaCl in the drinking water for six consecutive weeks. Effect of morin against DOCA-salt induced hypertension was evaluated by measuring blood pressure and performing biochemical estimations and histopathological examination of renal tissues.Results:DOCA-salt hypertensive rats showed considerably increased systolic and diastolic blood pressure,serum hepatic marker enzyme activities such as aspartate aminotransferase(AST), alanine aminotransferase(ALT), alkaline phosphatase(ALP) and gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase(GGT)and renal function markers(urea, uric acid and creatinine) in plasma. Oral administration of morin(25, 50 and 75 mg/kg bw) brought back all the above parameters to near normal level.Histopathology of kidney also confirmed the biochemical findings of this study. | 6 | Laparoscopic esophagomyotomy for achalasia in children:Areview显示文摘Esophageal achalasia in children is rare but ultimately requires endoscopic or surgical treatment. Historically, Heller esophagomyotomy has been recommended as the treatment of choice. The refinement of minimally invasive techniques has shifted the trend of treatment toward laparoscopic Heller myotomy(LHM) in adults and children with achalasia. A review of the available literature on LHM performed in patients < 18 years of age was conducted. The pediatric LHM experience is limited to one multiinstitutional and several single-institutional retrospective studies. Available data suggest that LHM is safe and effective. There is a paucity of evidence on the need for and superiority of concurrent antireflux procedures. In addition, a more complete portrayal of complications and long-term(> 5 years) outcomes is needed. Due to the infrequency of achalasia in children, these characteristics are unlikely to be defined without collaboration between multiple pediatric surgery centers.
