1Tunable and scalable broadband metamaterial absorber involving VO2-based phase transition显示文摘Optical absorbers with dynamic tuning features are able to flexibly control the absorption performance, which offers a good platform for realizing optical switching, filtering, modulating, etc. Here, we propose a thermally tunable broadband absorber applying a patterned plasmonic metasurface with thermo-chromic vanadium dioxide (VO2) spacers. An actively tunable absorption bandwidth and peak resonant wavelength in the region from the near-to mid-infrared (NMIR) are simultaneously achieved with the insulating.metallic phase transition ofVO2·Moreover, the scalable unit cell,which is composed of multi-width sub-cells, provides a new freedom to further manipulate (i.e., broaden or narrow) the absorption bandwidth while maintaining a high relative absorption bandwidth and efficient absorbance at the same time. 2Investigating cooked rice textural properties by instrumental measurements显示文摘Foods wherein the starch is slowly digested contribute to good health by reducing the tendency to,and for the maintenance of,diabetes,obesity and colo-rectal cancers.While foods with high amylose content have this desirable property,they usually do not have high sensory appeal and consumers are reluctant to eat them.While sensory evaluation by trained human panelists is the best way to obtain consumer preferences,these tests are expensive,time-consuming and require considerable effort and care.Instrumental measurements are easier,cheaper and invaluable for screening,but only useful if they correlate with human data for the type of food being considered.Here,we test this using cooked rice with a wide range of amylose contents.Functional properties were correlated against quantitative descriptive panelist analysis.Swelling power and breakdown viscosity correlated with all panelist sensory attributes,but no other correlations with gelatinization properties were observed.There was a strong correlation between hardness and stickiness measured by texture profile analysis(TPA)and by panelists,suggesting that TPA can be used to measure hardness and stickiness of cooked rice.We also showed that breakdown viscosity is a reliable instrumental means to provide indicative measurements of hardness and rice preference,and swelling power is a predictor of rice stickiness.Keyu Tao Wenwen Yu Sangeeta Prakash Robert G.Gilbert 2020Food Science and Human Wellness2020,9,2:4

6Eye-around vibration haptics on VR immersion improvement显示文摘Due to the inherent shortcomings of the hardware,the immersion of visual interaction between the user and the virtual reality(VR)equipment is greatly reduced.In this paper,effects of eye-around vibration haptics on improving the VR immersion were studied.The vibration was generated by flexible vibrators whose performance was evaluated by a laser vibrometer.Fitting the vibrators on the human eye area at different positions and derived by different waveforms and frequencies of the input signal,the effects of vibration on the human vision and comfort of the users were verified.Then,with the selected input signals and fitting locations,different kinds of vibration were applied on the eye area cooperating with virtual reality images or videos to evaluate the changes of immersion.Research results provide references to the modeling of eye tactile feedback and the design of relevant tactile device in improving the VR immersion.Tao ZENG Keyu WEI Yanlin YU Yi ZHAO 2019Virtual Reality & Intelligent Hardware2019,1,2:0

8Growing curly graphene layer boosts hard carbon with superior sodium-ion storage显示文摘Benefiting from the distinctive ordering degree and local microstructure characteristics,hard carbon(HC)is considered as the most promising anode for sodium-ion batteries(SIBs).Unfortunately,the low initial Coulombic efficiency(ICE)and limited reversible capacity severely impede its extensive application.Here,a homogeneous curly graphene(CG)layer with a micropore structure on HC is designed and executed by a simple chemical vapor deposition method(without catalysts).CG not only improves the electronic/ionic conductivity of the hard carbon but also effectively shields its surface defects,enhancing its ICE.In particular,due to the spontaneous curling structural characteristics of CG sheets(CGs),the micropores(≤2 nm)formed provide additional active sites,increasing its capacity.When used as a sodium-ion battery anode,the HC-CG composite anode displayed an outstanding reversible capacity of 358 mAh·g^(-1),superior ICE of 88.6%,remarkable rate performance of 145.8 mAh·g^(-1)at 5 A·g^(-1),and long cycling life after 1000 cycles with 88.6%at 1 A·g^(-1).This work provides a simple defect/microstructure turning strategy for hard carbon anodes and deepens the understanding of Na+storage behavior in the plateau region,especially on the pore-filling mechanism by forming quasi-metallic clusters.Minghao Song Qiang Song Tao Zhang Xiaomei Huo Zezhou Lin Zhaowen Hu Lei Dong Ting Jin Chao Shen Keyu Xie 2023Nano Research2023,16,7:0
