1A Deep Learning Method for Bias Correction of ECMWF 24–240 h Forecasts显示文摘Correcting the forecast bias of numerical weather prediction models is important for severe weather warnings.The refined grid forecast requires direct correction on gridded forecast products,as opposed to correcting forecast data only at individual weather stations.In this study,a deep learning method called CU-net is proposed to correct the gridded forecasts of four weather variables from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecast Integrated Forecasting System global model(ECMWF-IFS): 2-m temperature,2-m relative humidity,10-m wind speed,and 10-m wind direction,with a forecast lead time of 24 h to 240 h in North China.First,the forecast correction problem is transformed into an image-toimage translation problem in deep learning under the CU-net architecture,which is based on convolutional neural networks.Second,the ECMWF-IFS forecasts and ECMWF reanalysis data(ERA5) from 2005 to 2018 are used as training,validation,and testing datasets.The predictors and labels(ground truth) of the model are created using the ECMWF-IFS and ERA5,respectively.Finally,the correction performance of CU-net is compared with a conventional method,anomaly numerical correction with observations(ANO).Results show that forecasts from CU-net have lower root mean square error,bias,mean absolute error,and higher correlation coefficient than those from ANO for all forecast lead times from 24 h to 240 h.CU-net improves upon the ECMWF-IFS forecast for all four weather variables in terms of the above evaluation metrics,whereas ANO improves upon ECMWF-IFS performance only for 2-m temperature and relative humidity.For the correction of the 10-m wind direction forecast,which is often difficult to achieve,CU-net also improves the correction performance.Lei HAN Mingxuan CHEN Kangkai CHEN Haonan CHEN Yanbiao ZHANG Bing LU Linye SONG Rui QIN 2021Advances in Atmospheric Sciences2021,38,9:15
2Osteoclast precursor differentiation by MCPIP via oxidative stress,endoplasmic reticulum stress,and autophagy显示文摘Osteoclasts(OCs)are responsible for bone resorption in inflammatory joint diseases.Monocyte chemotactic protein-1(MCP-1)has been shown to induce differentiation of monocytes to OC precursors,but nothing is known about the underlying mechanisms.Here,we elucidate how MCPIP,induced by MCP-1,mediates this differentiation.Knockdown of MCPIP abolished MCP-1-mediated expression of OC markers,tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase,and serine protease cathepsin K.Expression of MCPIP induced p47PHOX and its membrane translocation,reactive oxygen species formation,and induction of endoplasmic reticulum(ER)stress chaperones,up-regulation of autophagy marker,Beclin-1,and lipidation of LC3,and induction of OC markers.Inhibition of oxidative stress attenuated ER stress and autophagy,and suppressed expression of OC markers.Inhibition of ER stress by a specific inhibitor or by knockdown of IRE1 blocked autophagy and induction of OC markers.ER stress inducers,tunicamycin and thapsigargin,induced expression of OC markers.Autophagy inhibition by 3′-methyladenine,LY294002,wortmannin or by knockdown of Beclin-1 or Atg 7 inhibited MCPIP-induced expression of OC markers.These results strongly suggest that MCP-1-induced differentiation of OC precursor cells is mediated via MCPIP-induced oxidative stress that causes ER stress leading to autophagy,revealing a novel mechanistic insight into the role of MCP-1 in OCs differentiation.Kangkai Wang Jianli Niu Hyunbae Kim Pappachan E.Kolattukudy 2011Journal of Molecular Cell Biology2011,3,6:6
3Increasing the hole energy by grading the alloy composition of the p-type electron blocking layer for very high-performance deep ultraviolet light-emitting diodes显示文摘It is well known that the p-type AlGaN electron blocking layer(p-EBL) can block hole injection for deep ultraviolet light-emitting diodes(DUV LEDs). The polarization induced electric field in the p-EBL for [0001] oriented DUV LEDs makes the holes less mobile and thus further decreases the hole injection capability. Fortunately,enhanced hole injection is doable by making holes lose less energy, and this is enabled by a specifically designed p-EBL structure that has a graded AlN composition. The proposed p-EBL can screen the polarization induced electric field in the p-EBL. As a result, holes will lose less energy after going through the proposed p-EBL, which correspondingly leads to the enhanced hole injection. 7Polarization assisted self-powered GaN-based UV photodetector with high responsivity显示文摘In this work, a self-powered GaN-based metal-semiconductor-metal photodetector(MSM PD) with high responsivity has been proposed and fabricated. The proposed MSM PD forms an asymmetric feature by using the polarization effect under one electrode, such that we adopt an AlGaN/GaN heterojunction to produce the electric field,and by doing so, an asymmetric energy band between the two electrodes can be obtained even when the device is unbiased. The asymmetric feature is proven by generating the asymmetric current-voltage characteristics both in the dark and the illumination conditions. Our results show that the asymmetric energy band enables the selfpowered PD, and the peak responsivity wavelength is 240 nm with the responsivity of 0.005 A/W. Moreover, a high responsivity of 13.56 A/W at the applied bias of 3 V is also achieved. 9Strain transfer behavior and crystallographic mechanism of crack initiation during cyclic deformation in zirconium显示文摘Fully-reversed cyclic deformation of a pure Zr(a thickness of 17 mm)was conducted at two different strain amplitudes(0.4%and 0.8%)to investigate the deformation and crack initiation behaviors based on slip trace analysis.It was found that prismaticaslip with a higher Schmid Factor(m>0.4)was the dominant deformation mode.The grains containing persistent slip bands(PSBs)tended to go towards[1210]pole and the Schmid Factor had a critical value of 0.4 above which prismatic and pyramidal slip were dominant.Fatigue cracks were mainly initiated at PSBs and grain boundaries(GBs).It showed that 61.1%of the cracks were PSB cracks under a strain amplitude of 0.4%,while it decreased to 53.5%at a strain amplitude of 0.8%.PSB cracks were mainly parallel to prismaticaslip with higher Schmid Factor while some cracks tended to be initiated at GBs with higher misorientation angles.The interaction of PSBs with GBs would result in strain transferring to the neighboring grain.Strain transfer was more likely to occur at the condition of the higher geometrical compatibility factor m,and lower residual Burgers vectorb,which could reduce strain localization.Xiangkang Zeng Conghui Zhang Wenguang Zhu Mingliang Zhu Tongguang Zhai Chi Ma Tingchuang Shu KangKai Song 2023Journal of Materials Science & Technology2023,,31:0
10The Effects of Unemployment on Health in Sub Saharan Africa显示文摘This research work is an empirical analysis of the relationship between unemployment and health in Sub Saharan Africa(SSA).In examining the impact of unemployment on health,we firstly made a test of interdependence of our conceptual framework.Secondly,we used the modified Generalized Methods of Moment(GMM)by Arellano and Bond(1991)from the econometric perspective to study the link between unemployment and health.We then resolved the problem of endogeneity by using a dynamic panel data relative to the study period 2006-2017.After carrying out a series of tests:test of cross-sectional dependence,stationarity tests,co-integration tests,test of endogeneity and identification of the model,the results revealed that the co-integration analysis supports a robust long-run relationship between our variables.Consequently,a 1%rise in unemployment rate at lag 1 leads to a 0.148%rise in female,0.134%rise in male and 0.138%rise in total mortality rates,and at levels it leads to a 1.166%rise in total mortality rate in middle income countries.However,in low income countries,a 1%rise in unemployment rate leads to a 0.166%fall in total mortality rate.In terms of recommendations,to maintain a low level of unemployment rate,actions to undertake have to be based on the better functioning of the labour market,a better flexibility of markets,a health insurance cover and limiting incitements which depress economic activities.Yamben Michel Freddy Harry Asaah Kangkai Zacheus 2020China-USA Business Review2020,19,4:0
