| 1 | Adsorption of Ce(Ⅳ) Anionic Nitrato Complexes onto Anion Exchangers and Its Application for Ce(Ⅳ) Separation from Rare Earths(Ⅲ)显示文摘Ce(Ⅳ) nitrato complexes were adsorbed on two anion exchangers based on polyvinyl pyridine (PVP) and quaternized PVP incorporated into porous silica matrix. The effect of nitric acid concentration (0.5~6 mol·L -1 ) and temperature (278~318 K) on Ce(Ⅳ) sorption efficiency was investigated. Sorption increased with increasing nitric acid concentration, indicating that Ce(NO3)6 2- complex is the main adsorbed Ce(Ⅳ) species. Oxidation of sorbents by adsorbed Ce(Ⅳ) species resulting in Ce(Ⅲ) release to the solution was observed. Pyridine based anion exchangers exhibited higher oxidation stability compared to the commercial strong base anion exchanger. Ce(Ⅳ) reduction was temperature dependent and obeyed pseudo-first-order reaction kinetics. Column separation of Ce(Ⅳ) from La(Ⅲ) and Y(Ⅲ) was carried out from 6 mol·L -1 nitric acid with PVP based anion exchanger. Reasonable Ce(Ⅳ) breakthrough capacity (0.7 mol·kg -1 PVP) was achieved. No remarkable decrease of capacity was observed within 3 consequent runs. In contrast, Ce(Ⅲ) leakage due to reduction decreased and breakthrough capacity slightly increased. This effect was more pronounced with increasing temperature. | 2 | Serum manganese superoxide dismutase and thioredoxin are potential prognostic markers for hepatitis C virus-related hepatocellular carcinoma显示文摘AIM:To evaluate the clinical significance of oxidative stress markers in patients with hepatitis C virus(HCV)related hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).METHODS:Sixty-four consecutive patients who were admitted to Kagoshima University Medical and Dental Hospital were enrolled in this retrospective study.All patients had chronic liver disease(CLD) due to infection with HCV.Thirty patients with HCV-related HCC,34 with HCV-related CLD without HCC(non-HCC),and 20 healthy volunteers(HVs) were enrolled.Possible associations between serum manganese superoxide dismutase(MnSOD) and thioredoxin(TRX) levels and clinical parameters or patient prognosis were analyzed over a mean follow-up period of 31.7 mo.RESULTS:The serum MnSOD levels were significantly higher in patients with HCV-related HCC than in patients without HCC(P = 0.03) or HVs(P < 0.001).Similarly,serum TRX levels were also significantly higher in patients with HCV-related HCC than in patients without HCC(P = 0.04) or HVs(P < 0.01).However,serum levels of MnSOD and TRX were not correlated in patients with HCC.Among patients with HCC,the overall survival rate(OSR) was lower in patients with MnSOD levels ≥ 110 ng/mL than in patients with levels < 110 ng/mL(P = 0.01),and the OSR tended to be lower in patients with TRX levels < 80 ng/mL(P = 0.05).In addition,patient prognosis with HCC was poorest with serum MnSOD levels ≥ 110 ng/mL and serum TRX levels < 80 ng/mL.Furthermore,a multivariate analysis using a Cox proportional hazard model and serum levels of five factors(MnSOD,prothrombin time,serum albumin,serum α-fetoprotein(AFP),and serum des-γ-carboxy prothrombin) revealed that MnSOD levels ≥ 110 ng/mL(risk ratio:4.12,95% confidential interval:1.22-13.88,P = 0.02) and AFP levels ≥ 40 ng/mL(risk ratio:6.75;95% confidential interval:1.70-26.85,P < 0.01) were independent risk factors associated with a poor patient prognosis.CONCLUSION:Serum MnSOD and TRX levels are potential clinical biomarkers that predict patient prognosis in HCV-related HCC. | Tsutomu Tamai Hirofumi Uto Yoichiro Takami Kouhei Oda Akiko Saishoji Masashi Hashiguchi Kotaro Kumagai Takeshi Kure Seiichi Mawatari Akihiro Moriuchi Makoto Oketani Akio Ido Hirohito Tsubouchi | 2011 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2011，17，44： | 7 |
| 3 | Electro-Oxidation of Concentrated Ce(Ⅲ) at Carbon Felt Anode in Nitric Acid Media显示文摘Electro-oxidation of Ce(Ⅲ) to Ce(Ⅳ) in parallel plate flow type electrolyzer divided with cation exchange membrane was carried out in nitric acid media at carbon felt anode under galvanostatic conditions. Carbon felt was used as an anode for its high specific surface area and high oxygen evolution overpotential. Pt coated Ti plates were used as cathode and anode current feeder. The oxidation of 1 mol·L -1 Ce(Ⅲ) solution in 2 mol·L -1 HNO3 was proceeding with a high current efficiency (92%) until about 80% of Ce(Ⅲ) was oxidized. Then, oxygen evolution, accompanied by terminal voltage jump, took place, lowering current efficiency. Ce(Ⅲ) was oxidized up to 90% with current efficiency of 62%. In this mode, strong carbon felt anode oxidation was observed. The wear out of carbon felt was 46% in six consequent runs (6 h of operation). After each run, carbon felt surface had to be renewed with slightly alkaline solution to remove carbon oxidation products and ensure regular operational conditions. When anode surface was blocked, oxygen evolution took place from the beginning of electrolysis due to higher actual current density. The wear out of carbon felt anode could be minimized by means of oxygen evolution prevention. | 8 | Combined thoracoscopic and endoscopic surgery for a large esophageal schwannoma显示文摘A 47-year-old woman presented to our hospital with complaints of dysphagia. Esophagogastroduodenoscopy identified a submucosal tumor in the left wall of the esophagus that was diagnosed as a benign schwannoma on biopsy. Computed tomography revealed a tumor of length 60 mm in the thoracic esophagus, with its cranial edge at the level of the aortic arch. On endoscopy, a submucosal tunnel was created 40 mm proximal to the cranial edge of the tumor, and its oral end was dissected from the mucosal and muscular layers. This was followed by the resection of the entire tumor by left-sided thoracoscopy. The esophageal defect was closed in layer by continuous suture from the thoracic side. Endoscopic closure was achieved by using clips. No postoperative complications were observed. Oral diet was resumed from postoperative day 7 and the patient was discharged on postoperative day 9. This combined approach has not been described for similar tumors.
