| 2 | Soluble forms of extracellular cytokeratin 18 may differentiate simple steatosis from nonalcoholic steatohepatitis显示文摘AIM: To investigate whether serum levels of two soluble forms of extracellular cytokeratin 18 (M30-antigen and M65-antigen) may differentiate nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) from simple steatosis in patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). METHODS: A total of 83 patients with suspected NAFLD and 49 healthy volunteers were investigated. Patients with suspected NAFLD were classified according to their liver histology into four groups: definitive NASH (n = 45), borderline NASH (n = 24), simple fatty liver (n = 9), and normal tissue (n = 5). Serum levels of caspase-3 generated cytokeratin-18 fragments (M30-antigen) and total cytokeratin-18 (M65-antigen) were determined by ELISA. RESULTS: Levels of M30-antigen and M65-antigen were significantly higher in patients with definitive NASH compared to the other groups. An abnormal value (> 121.60 IU/L) of M30-antigen yielded a 60.0% sensitivity and a 97.4% specificity for the diagnosis of NASH. Sensitivity and specificity of an abnormal M65-antigen level (> 243.82 IU/L) for the diagnosis of NASH were 68.9% and 81.6%, respectively. Among patients with NAFLD, M30-antigen and M65-antigen levels distinguished between advanced fibrosis and early-stage fibrosis with a sensitivity of 64.7% and 70.6%, and a specificity of 77.3% and 71.2%, respectively. CONCLUSION: Serum levels of M30-antigen and M65-antigen may be of clinical usefulness to identify patients with NASH. | 3 | Current adjuvant treatment modalities for gastric cancer:From history to the future显示文摘The discrepancy between the surgical technique and the type of adjuvant chemotherapy used in clinical trials and patient outcomes in terms of overall survival rates has led to the generation of different adjuvant treatment protocols in distinct parts of the world.The adjuvant treatment recommendation is generally chemoradiotherapy in the United States,perioperative chemotherapy in the United Kingdom and parts of Europe,and chemotherapy in Asia.These options mainly rely on the United States Intergroup-0116,United Kingdom British Medical Research Council Adjuvant Gastric Infusional Chemotherapy,and the Asian Adjuvant Chemotherapy Trial of S-1 for Gastric Cancer and Capecitabine and Oxaliplatin Adjuvant Study in Stomach Cancer trials.However,the benefits were evident for only certain patients,which were not very homogeneous regarding the type of surgery,chemotherapy regimens,and stage of disease.Whether the dissimilarities in survival are attributable to surgical technique or intrinsic biological differences is a subject of debate.Regardless of the extent of surgery,multimodal therapy may offer modest survival advantage at least for diseases with lymph node involvement.Moreover,in the era of individualized treatment for most of the other cancer types,identification of special subgroups comprising those who will derive more or no benefit from adjuvant therapy merits further investigation.The aim of this review is to reveal the historical evolution and future reflections of adjuvant treatment modalities for resected gastric cancer patients. | Leyla Kilic Cetin Ordu Ibrahim Yildiz Fatma Sen Serkan Keskin Rumeysa Ciftci Kezban Nur Pilanci | 2016 | World Journal of Gastrointestinal Oncology2016，8，5： | 9 |
| 4 | Evaluation of leukocyte esterase and nitrite strip tests to detect spontaneous bacterial peritonitis in cirrhotic patients显示文摘AIM: To investigate the diagnostic eff icacy of leukocyte esterase and nitrite reagent strips for bedside diagnosis of spontaneous bacterial peritonitis (SBP). METHODS: A total of 63 consecutive patients with cirrhotic ascites (38 male, 25 female) tested between April 2005 and July 2006 were included in the study. Bedside reagent strip testing was performed on ascitic ? uid and the results compared to manual cell counting and ascitic fluid culture. SBP was defined as having a polymorphonuclear ascites count of ≥ 250/mm3. RESULTS: Fifteen samples showed SBP. The sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values of the leukocyte esterase reagent strips were; 93%, 100%, 100%, and 98%, respectively. The sensitivity, specifi city, positive and negative predictive value of the nitrite reagent strips were 13%, 93%, 40%, and 77%, respectively. The combination of leukocyte esterase and nitrite reagents strips did not yield statistically signif icant effects on diagnostic accuracy. | 7 | Free-space optical neural network based on thermal atomic nonlinearity显示文摘As artificial neural networks(ANNs)continue to make strides in wide-ranging and diverse fields of technology,the search for more efficient hardware implementations beyond conventional electronics is gaining traction.In particular,optical implementations potentially offer extraordinary gains in terms of speed and reduced energy consumption due to the intrinsic parallelism of free-space optics.At the same time,a physical nonlinearity—a crucial ingredient of an ANN—is not easy to realize in free-space optics,which restricts the potential of this platform.This problem is further exacerbated by the need to also perform the nonlinear activation in parallel for each data point to preserve the benefit of linear free-space optics.Here,we present a free-space optical ANN with diffraction-based linear weight summation and nonlinear activation enabled by the saturable absorption of thermal atoms.We demonstrate,via both simulation and experiment,image classification of handwritten digits using only a single layer and observed 6% improvement in classification accuracy due to the optical nonlinearity compared to a linear model.Our platform preserves the massive parallelism of free-space optics even with physical nonlinearity,and thus opens the way for novel designs and wider deployment of optical ANNs. | Albert Ryou James Whitehead Maksym Zhelyeznyakov Paul Anderson Cem Keskin Michal Bajcsy Arka Majumdar | 2021 | Photonics Research2021，9，4： | 2 |
| 8 | Connected autonomous vehicles for improving mixed traffic efficiency in unsignalized intersections with deep reinforcement learning显示文摘Human driven vehicles(HDVs)with selfish objectives cause low traffic efficiency in an un-signalized intersection.On the other hand,autonomous vehicles can overcome this inefficiency through perfect coordination.In this paper,we propose an intermediate solution,where we use vehicular communication and a small number of autonomous vehicles to improve the transportation system efficiency in such intersections.In our solution,two connected autonomous vehicles(CAVs)lead multiple HDVs in a double-lane intersection in order to avoid congestion in front of the intersection.The CAVs are able to communicate and coordinate their behavior,which is controlled by a deep reinforcement learning(DRL)agent.We design an altruistic reward function which enables CAVs to adjust their velocities flexibly in order to avoid queuing in front of the intersection.The proximal policy optimization(PPO)algorithm is applied to train the policy and the generalized advantage estimation(GAE)is used to estimate state values.Training results show that two CAVs are able to achieve significantly better traffic efficiency compared to similar scenarios without and with one altruistic autonomous vehicle. | Bile Peng Musa Furkan Keskin Balazs Kulcsar Henk Wymeersch | 2021 | Communications in Transportation Research2021，1，1： | 2 |

| 11 | Protective effects of Rutin against methanol induced acute toxic optic neuropathy:an experimental study显示文摘AIM:To determine the effects of Rutin on methanol induced optic neuropathy and compare the results with the effects of ethanol.METHODS:Totally 30 rats were divided into 5 groups,with 6 rats in each group as follows:healthy controls(C),methotrexate(MTX),methotrexate+methanol(MTM),methotrexate+methanol+ethanol(MTME) and methotrexate+ methanol+Rutin(MTMR).In all rabbits except those of the control group,MTX,diluted in sterile serum physiologic,0.3 mg/kg per oral was applied for 7 d by the aid of a tube.After this procedure to the rats of MTM,MTME and MTMR groups,20% methanol with a dose of 3 g/kg per oral was given by the aid of a tube.In MTME group,4 h after the application of methanol,20% ethanol was applied by the same way with a dose of 0.5 g/kg.On the other hand,in MTMR group 4 h after the application of methanol,Rutin,which was dissolved in distilled water,was applied by the same way with a dose of 50 mg/kg.RESULTS:There were statistically significant differences in tissue 8-hydroxy-2 deoxyguanine(8-OHdG),interleukin-1β(IL-1β),tumor necrosis factor-alpha(TNF-α),malondialdehyde(MDA),myeloperoxidase(MPO).glutathione peroxidase(t GSH) and superoxide dismutase(SOD) levels between groups(P<0.001).In MTMR group tissue 8-OHdG,IL-1β,MDA,and MPO levels were similar with the healthy controls but significantly different than the other groups.In histopathological evaluations,in MTX group there was moderate focal destruction,hemorrhage and decrease innumber of astrocytes and oligodendrocytes;in MTM group there was severe destruction and edema with decrease in number of astrocytes and oligodendrocytes;in MTME group there was mild hemorrhage,mild edema,mildly dilated blood vessels with congestion while in MTMR group,optic nerve tissue was resembling the healthy controls.CONCLUSION:Rutin may prevent methanol-induced optic neuropathy via anti-inflammatory effects and decreasing the oxidative stress.New treatment options are warranted in this disease to avoid loss of vision in patients. | Nurdan Gamze Tasli Ferda Keskin Cimen Yücel Karakurt Turgay Ucak Renad Mammadov Bahadir Suleyman Nezahat Kurt Halis Suleyman | 2018 | International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2018，11，5： | 2 |
