| 1 | Global patterns of the responses of leaf-level photosynthesis and respiration in terrestrial plants to experimental warming显示文摘Aims The balance between leaf photosynthesis and respiration of terrestrial plants determines the net carbon(C)gain by vegetation and consequently is important to climate–C cycle feedback.This study is to reveal the global patterns of the responses of leaf-level net photosynthesis and dark respiration to elevated temperature.Methods Data for leaf-level net photosynthesis rate(P_(n))and dark respiration rate(R_(d))in natural terrestrial plant species with standard deviation(or standard error or confidence interval)and sample size were collected from searched literatures on Web of Science.Then a metaanalysis was conducted to estimate the effects of experimental warming on leaf-level P_(n) and R_(d) of terrestrial plants.Important findings Across all the plants included in the analysis,warming enhanced P_(n) and R_(d) significantly by 6.13 and 33.14%,respectively.However,the responses were plant functional type(PFT)specific.Specifically,photosynthesis of C_(4) herbs responded to experimental warming positively but that of C_(3) herbs did not,whereas their respiratory responses were similar,suggesting C_(4) plants would benefit more from warming.The photosynthetic response declined linearly with increasing ambient temperature.The respiratory responses linearly enhanced with the increase in warming magnitude.In addition,a thermal acclimation of R_(d),instead of P_(n),was observed.Although greater proportion of fixed C was consumed(greater R_(d)/P_(n) ratio),warming significantly enhanced the daily net C balance at the leaf level.This provides an important mechanism for the positive responses of plant biomass and net primary productivity to warming.Overall,the findings,including the contrastive responses of different PFTs and the enhancement in daily leaf net C balance,are important for improving model projection of the climate–C cycle feedback. | Junyi Liang Jianyang Xia Lingli Liu Shiqiang Wan | 2013 | Journal of Plant Ecology2013,6,6: | 18 |
| 2 | Is new American Thyroid Association risk classification for hereditary medullary thyroid carcinoma applicable to Chinese patients? A single-center study显示文摘Objective: The American Thyroid Association(ATA) proposed a new risk classification for hereditary medullary thyroid carcinoma(MTC) in 2015. This study aimed to assess whether the new guidelines are suitable for the Chinese population, and reported our experience on prophylactic thyroidectomy.Methods: A total of 73 patients from 22 families were screened as rearranged during transfection(RET) mutation carriers from 2010 to 2016 in Cancer Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Science; the medical history for each patient was collected. Based on the initial treatment, we identified the risk factors for poor prognosis by univariate and multivariate logistic regression. Then, 4 RET mutation carriers were enrolled for prophylactic thyroidectomy,and their pathological data and follow-up outcomes were recorded.Results: In univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses, age at initial surgery and risk classification were significant risk factors for stage Ⅲ/Ⅳ hereditary MTC at initial diagnosis. The likelihood was increased by 11.6% per year of age at initial surgery [95% confidence interval(95% CI), 1.040–1.198; P=0.002). It was 7.888 times more likely to have Ⅲ/Ⅳ stage disease for ATA highest risk patients, compared to ATA moderate risk individuals(95% CI, 1.607–38.717; P=0.003). Postoperative pathological results showed all 4 multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2A(MEN2A) patients had C-cell hyperplasia(CCH); multifocal malignancies were detected in 3 of them. All 4 patients were cured biochemically, and none developed permanent hypoparathyroidism.Conclusions: In Chinese individuals, hereditary MTC aggressiveness is in line with the new ATA risk classification. | 3 | Preliminary experimental results by the prototype of Sanya Incoherent Scatter Radar显示文摘In the past decades,the Incoherent Scatter Radar(ISR)has been demonstrated to be one of the most powerful instruments for ionosphere monitoring.The Institute of Geology and Geophysics at the Chinese Academy of Sciences was founded to build a state-ofthe-art phased-array ISR at Sanya(18.3°N,109.6°E),a low-latitude station on Hainan Island,named the Sanya ISR(SYISR).As a first step,a prototype radar system consisting of eight subarrays(SYISR-8)was built to reduce the technical risk of producing the entire large array.In this work,we have summarized the preliminary experimental results based on the SYISR-8.The amplitude and phase among 256 channels were first calibrated through an embedded internal monitoring network.The mean oscillation of the amplitude and phase after calibration were about 1 dB and 5°,respectively,which met the basic requirements.The beam directivity was confirmed by crossing screen of the International Space Station.The SYISR-8 was further used to detect the tropospheric wind profile and meteors.The derived winds were evaluated by comparison with independent radiosonde and balloon-based GPS measurements.The SYISR-8 was able to observe several typical meteor echoes,such as the meteor head echo,range-spread trail echo,and specular trail echo.These results confirmed the validity and reliability of the SYISR-8 system,thereby reducing the technical risk of producing the entire large array of the SYISR to some extent. | XinAn Yue WeiXing Wan Han Xiao LingQi Zeng ChangHai Ke BaiQi Ning Feng Ding BiQiang Zhao Lin Jin Chen Li MingYuan Li JunYi Wang HongLian Hao Ning Zhang | 2020 | Earth and Planetary Physics2020,4,6: | 3 |

| 5 | Optimization of the Mars ionospheric radio occultation retrieval显示文摘Electron density is a key parameter to characterize Martian ionospheric structure and dynamics. Based on the ephemeris and auxiliary information derived from the Spacecraft, Planet, Instruments, C-matrix, and Events(SPICE) toolkit, we calculated the bending angle of signal path from the frequency residuals measured by the Mars Express Radio Science Experiment(Ma RS) of the Mars Express(MEX) mission under the assumption of a spherically symmetric ionosphere. We stratified the ionosphere into layers and assumed a linear change of bending angle between layers, to derive profiles in radial distance of refractivity with the optimized parameters of upper integral limit of 4890 km and baseline correction boundary of 3690 km. Meanwhile, we also compared the retrieved electron density profiles between the frequency residuals of the single-frequency and differential Doppler of the dual-frequency. In total, ~640 electron density profiles of Martian ionosphere between April 2004 and April 2015 were retrieved successfully. There are 24 profiles identified manually that exhibit an additional sporadic layer occurrence below the normal two-layers. | 6 | Outcomes of Self-Expanding Transcatheter Pulmonary Valves:Extended Follow-Up of a Prospective Trial显示文摘Background:The Venus-P valve was the first self-expanding valve used world-wide for transcatheter pulmonary valve replacement(TPVR)in patients with severe pulmonary regurgitation(PR).We intended to report the extended follow-up results from the prospective trial(No.NCT02590679).Methods:A total of 38 patients with severe PR(mean age 24.2±13.2)were included.Follow-up data were obtained after implanted at 1,6,and 12 months and yearly after.The frame geometry was assessed on post-implant computer tomography(CT)scanning by calculating the non-circularity[circularity ratio(minimum diameter/maximum diameter)<0.9]and under-expansion[expansion ratio(derived external valve area/nominal external valve area)<0.9).Adverse events(all-cause mortality,reintervention,valve dysfunction,stent fracture and endocarditis)were recorded.Results:All valves were implanted successfully with normal function at discharge.Geometric CT analysis showed underexpanded valve was detected in 22 patients(63%)and non-circular valve was seen in 16 patients(46%).During a median follow-up of 4.8 years(range 0.3-8.1),there were 1 death and 1 surgical explant,both resulting from endocarditis.Five-year freedom from valve dysfunction and stent fracture were 84.8%(95%CI 74.8-94.7)and 83.5%(95%CI 73.8-93.2).Endocarditis occurred in 3 patients at a median time of 7 months.Stent fracture was more common in patients with non-circularity stents.Conclusion:TPVR using Venus-P valve is associated with favorable outcomes at 5 years.Non-circular shapes in the valve level may have a higher risk of stent fracture. | Jingnan Zhang Junyi Wan Yihang Li Yu Han Jiahua Pan Fang Fang Shiliang Jiang Xiangbin Pan Gejun Zhang | 2023 | Congenital Heart Disease2023,18,2: | 0 |
