Micro/nano-structured TiO2 surface with dual-functional antibacterial effects for biomedical applications显示文摘Implant-associated infections are generally difficult to cure owing to the bacterial antibiotic resistance which is attributed to the widespread usage of antibiotics.Given the global threat and increasing influence of antibiotic resistance, there is an urgent demand to explore novel antibacterial strategies other than using antibiotics.Recently, using a certain surface topography to provide a more persistent antibacterial solution attracts more and more attention. However, the clinical application of biomimetic nano-pillar array is not satisfactory, mainly because its antibacterial ability against Gram-positive strain is not good enough. Thus, the pillar array should be equipped with other antibacterial agents to fulfill the bacteriostatic and bactericidal requirements of clinical application. Here,we designed a novel model substrate which was a combination of periodic micro/nano-pillar array and TiO2 for basically understanding the topographical bacteriostatic effects of periodic micro/nano-pillar array and the photocatalytic bactericidal activity of TiO2.Such innovation may potentially exert the synergistic effects by integrating the persistent topographical antibacterial activity and the non-invasive X-ray induced photocatalytic antibacterial property of TiO2 to combat against antibiotic-resistant implant-associated infections.First,to separately verify the topographical antibacterial activity of TiO2 periodic micro/nano-pillar array,we systematically investigated its effects on bacterial adhesion, growth, proliferation, and viability in the dark without involving the photocatalysis of TiO2.The pillar array with sub-micron motif size can significantly inhibit the adhesion, growth, and proliferation of Staphylococcus aureus(S.aureus)and Escherichia coli(E.coli).Such antibacterial ability is mainly attributed to a spatial confinement size-effect and limited contact area availability generated by the special topography of pillar array. Moreover, the pillar array is not lethal to S.aureus and E.coli in 24 h.Then, the X-ray induced photocatalytic antibacterial property of TiO2 periodic micro/nano-pillar array in vitro and in vivo will be systematically studied in a future work. This study could shed light on the direction of surface topography design for future medical implants to combat against antibiotic-resistant implant-associated infections without using antibiotics. | Xiang Ge Chengzu Ren Yonghui Ding Guang Chen Xiong Lu Kefeng Wang Fuzeng Ren Meng Yang Zhuochen Wang Junlan Li Xinxin An Bao Qian Yang Leng | 2019 | Bioactive Materials2019,4,1: | 8
Mesozoic lithofacies palaeogeography and petroleum prospectivity in North Carnarvon Basin,Australia显示文摘The North Carnarvon Basin, which lies in the North West Shelf of Australia, is highly rich in gas resources. As a typical passive marginal basin, it experienced the pre-rifting, early rifting, main rifting, late rifting, post-rifting sagging and passive margin stages. The basin was mainly filled with thick Mesozoic-Cenozoic sediments, of which the Mesozoic hosts the principal source, reservoir and seal intervals. Mesozoic palaeogeography has an important control on the oil and gas distribution. Triassic gas-prone source rocks of deltaic origin deter-mine the high endowment of natural gases in the North Carnarvon Basin. The more restricted distribution of oil accumulations is controlled by oil source rocks in the Upper Jurassic Dingo Claystone. The Muderong Shale deposited in the Early Cretaceous marine transgression provides the effective regional seal for the underlying oil and gas reservoirs. | Tao Chongzhi Bai Guoping Liu Junlan Deng Chao Lu Xiaoxin Liu Houwu Wang Dapeng | 2013 | Journal of Palaeogeography2013,2,1: | 7
Clinical analysis of CHD2 gene mutations in pediatric patients with epilepsy显示文摘Importance:CHD2 is a member of the chromodomain helicase DNA-binding(CHD)family of proteins, which have important roles in the regulation of gene expression.Dysregulation of this protein may lead to various disorders. Objective:To delineate the genotypes and phenotypes of CHD2-related epilepsy. Methods:We analyzed the medical history, magnetic resonance imaging findings, and video-electroencephalogram recordings of 17 patients withCHD2 mutations in the Neurology Department of Beijing Children’s Hospital from June 2016 to June 2021.Results:Age at seizure onset ranged from 6 months to 10 years;the median age at onset was 4 years.Generalized tonic-clonic,myoclonic,eyelid myoclonic, atonic, atypical absence,myoclonic-atonic,and spasm seizures were observed.Ten of the 17 patients had multiple types of seizures. One patient exhibited photosensitivity epilepsy and one patient exhibited grid image-induced visual reflex epilepsy.Developmental disability was present in 14 patients, while autism features were present in five patients.Sixteen patients hadde novo mutations ofCHD2;one patient had an inherited variant.Eleven mutations were novel. One patient had two mutations;that patient exhibited development delay and refractory epilepsy.Seizures were controlled in eight patients, improved in seven patients, and resistant to treatment in two patients.Interpretation:Phenotype severity in patients withCHD2 variants ranged from drug-responsive seizures to severe epileptic encephalopathy. Most patients exhibited developmental disorders. | Weixing Feng Fang Fang Xiaohui Wang Chunhong Chen Junlan Lu Jie Deng | 2022 | Pediatric Investigation2022,6,2: | 2

Dihydroartemisinin increased the abundance of Akkermansia muciniphila by YAP1 depression that sensitizes hepatocellular carcinoma to anti-PD-1 immunotherapy显示文摘The effect of anti-programmed cell death 1(anti-PD-1)immunotherapy is limited in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).Yes-associated protein 1(YAP1)expression increased in liver tumor cells in early HCC,and Akkermansia muciniphila abundance decreased in the colon. The response to anti-PD-1 treatment is associated with A.muciniphila abundance in many tumors. However, the interaction between A.muciniphila abundance and YAP1 expression remains unclear in HCC.Here,anti-PD-1 treatment decreased A.muciniphila abundance in the colon, but increased YAP1 expression in the tumor cells by mice with liver tumors in situ.Mechanistically,hepatocyte-specific Yap1 knockout(Yap1^(LKO))maintained bile acid homeostasis in the liver, resulting in an increased abundance of A.muciniphila in the colon.Yap1 knockout enhanced anti-PD-1 efficacy.Therefore,YAP1 inhibition is a potential target for increasing A.muciniphila abundance to promote anti-PD-1 efficacy in liver tumors.Dihydroartemisinin(DHA),acting as YAP1 inhibitor, increased A.muciniphila abundance to sensitize anti-PD-1 therapy.A.muciniphila by gavage increased the number and activation of CD8^(+)T cells in liver tumor niches during DHA treatment or combination with anti-PD-1.Our findings suggested that the combination anti-PD-1 with DHA is an effective strategy for liver tumor treatment. | Zhiqin Zhang Xinli Shi Jingmin Ji Yinglin Guo Qing Peng Liyuan Hao Yu Xue Yiwei Liu Caige Li Junlan Lu Kun Yu | 2023 | Frontiers of Medicine2023,17,4: | 0
In-situ neutralize methane emission from landfills in loess regions using leachate显示文摘In loess regions, landfilling is the predominant solid waste disposal and loess is usually used as landfill cover soil. However, the methane(CH_4) bio-oxidation activity of virgin loess is usually below 0.01 μmol/(h g-soil). In this study, we proposed a method to improve CH_4 removal capacity of loess by amelioration with mature landfill leachate, which is in-situ, easily available, and appropriate. The organic matter content of the ameliorated loess increased by 180%, reaching 19.69–24.88 g/kg-soil, with more than 90% being non-leachable. The abundance of type I methane-oxidizing bacteria and methane monooxygenase gene pmoA increased by 5.0 and 79 times, respectively. Consequently, the maximum CH_4 removal rate of ameliorated loess reached 0.74–1.41 μmol/(h g-soil) at 25°C, which was 4-fold higher than that of water-irrigated loess. Besides, the CH_4 removal rate peaked at 10 vt% CH_4 concentration and remained at around 1.4 μmol/(h g-soil) at 15°C–35°C. The column test confirmed that the highest CH_4 removal efficiency was at 30–40 cm below the surface, reaching 26.1%±0.4%, and the 50-cm-thick loess layer irrigated with leachate achieved more than 85% CH_4 removal efficiency. These results could help to realize carbon neutrality in landfill sites of global loess regions. | HE PinJing CHEN JunLan SHAO LiMing ZHANG Hua LU Fan | 2021 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2021,64,7: | 0
Network Meets ChatGPT:Intent Autonomous Management,Control and Operation显示文摘Telecommunication has undergone significant transformations due to the continuous advancements in internet technology, mobile devices, competitive pricing, and changing customer preferences.Specifically, the most recent iteration of OpenAI’s large language model chat generative pre-trained transformer(ChatGPT)has the potential to propel innovation and bolster operational performance in the telecommunications sector.Nowadays, the exploration of network resource management, control, and operation is still in the initial stage. In this paper,we propose a novel network artificial intelligence architecture named language model for network traffic(NetLM),a large language model based on a transformer designed to understand sequence structures in the network packet data and capture their underlying dynamics. The continual convergence of knowledge space and artificial intelligence(AI)technologies constitutes the core of intelligent network management and control.Multi-modal representation learning is used to unify the multi-modal information of network indicator data, traffic data, and text data into the same feature space.Furthermore,a NetLM-based control policy generation framework is proposed to refine intent incrementally through different abstraction levels. Finally, some potential cases are provided that NetLM can benefit the telecom industry. | Jingyu Wang Lei Zhang Yiran Yang Zirui Zhuang Qi Qi Haifeng Sun Lu Lu Junlan Feng Jianxin Liao | 2023 | Journal of Communications and Information Networks2023,8,3: | 0
