5Preliminary Results of In-situ Stress Measurements along the Longmenshan Fault Zone after the Wenchuan M_s 8.0 Earthquake显示文摘Four months after the Wenchuan M_s 8 earthquake in western Sichuan,China,in situ stress measurements were carried out along the Longmenshan fault zone with the purpose of obtaining stress parameters for earthquake hazard assessment.In-situ stresses were measured in three new boreholes by using overcoring with the piezomagnetic stress gauges for shallow depths and hydraulic fracturing for lower depths.The maximum horizontal stress in shallow depths(~20 m) is about 4.3 MPa,oriented N19°E,in the epicenter area at Yingxiu Town,about 9.7 MPa,oriented N51°W,at Baoxing County in the southwestern Longmenshan range,and about 2.6 MPa,oriented N39°E,near Kangding in the southernmost zone of the Longmenshan range.Hydraulic fracturing at borehole depths from 100 to 400 m shows a tendency towards increasing stress with depth.A comparison with the results measured before the Wenchuan earthquake along the Longmenshan zone and in the Tibetan Plateau demonstrates that the stress level remains relatively high in the southwestern segment of the Longmenshan range,and is still moderate in the epicenter zone.These results provide a key appraisal for future assessment of earthquake hazards of the Longmenshan fault zone and the aftershock occurrences of the Wenchuan earthquake.WU Manlu ZHANG Yueqiao LIAO Chunting CHEN Qunce MA Yinsheng WU Jinsheng YAN Junfeng OU Mingyi 2009Acta Geologica Sinica(English Edition)2009,83,4:31

7Ordovician graptolite-bearing strata in southern Jiangxi with a special reference to the Kwangsian Orogeny显示文摘The Ordovician graptolite sequence of the Yongxin-Chongyi area in southern Jiangxi was suggested as a standard for the correlation of Ordovician in the Zhujiang region of South China. Based on a restudy of the Upper Ordovician graptolites, the Shikou and Huamianlong formations are recognized herein as a part of the Hanjiang Formation, corresponding only to the Dipla-canthograptus caudatus-Diplacanthograptus spiniferus Zone. Two graptolite zones in the Longxi Formation of Yongxin and Chongyi, the Nemagraptus gracilis Zone and Climacograptus bicornis Zone, are redefined here. A rapid replacement of facies from the typical deep-water graptolitic black shale of Longxi Formation to the rapidly-accumulated, shallow-water clastic deposits of Hanjiang Formation indicates the tectonic initiation of the Kwangsian Orogeny. The thick clastic deposits of the Han-jiang Formation are proposed to come from a nearby source area that rose during the Kwangsian Orogeny. 9Au/LaVO_(4)Nanocomposite:Preparation,Characterization,and Catalytic Activity for CO Oxidation显示文摘The size of the gold particles is a very important parameter to get active catalysts.This paper reports a novel colloidal deposition method to prepare Au/LaVO_(4)nanocomposite catalyst with monodispersed Au colloids and uniform LaVO_(4)nanoplates in nonpolar solvent.Monodispersed Au colloids with tunable size(such as 2,5,7,11,13,and 16 nm)and LaVO_(4)nanocrystals with well-defi ned shapes were pre-synthesized assisted with oleic acid/amine.During the following immobilization process,the particle size and shape of Au and LaVO_(4)were nearly preserved.As-prepared Au/LaVO_(4)nanocomposite showed high catalytic activity for CO oxidation at room temperature.Since sizes of gold particles were well-defi ned before the immobilization process,size effect of gold particles was easy to be investigated and the results show that 5-nm Au/LaVO_(4)nanocomposite has the highest activity for CO oxidation.This synthetic method can be extended further for the preparation of other composite nanomaterials.Junfeng Liu Wei Chen Xiangwen Liu Kebin Zhou Yadong Li 2008Nano Research2008,1,1:16
10Variation of Zr/Rb ratios on the Loess Plateau of Central China during the last 130000 years and its implications for winter monsoon显示文摘To find a new index of winter monsoon without effects of chemical weathering and pedogenesis is an important task in loess research. Chemical analysis of five grain size fractions (i.e. >32μm, 32-20μm, 20-8μm, 8-2μm and <2μm) show that Zr is enriched in coarser grain size, while Rb is concentrated in finer fractions. An excellent correlation occurs between Zr/Rb ratios and mean grain size in loess units (L1LL1 and L1LL2) from Huanxian and Xifeng sections, reflecting that Zr/Rb ratios increase when grain size is coarser. Due to immobility of the two elements during the postdepositional process, Zr/Rb ratios can eliminate the effect of weathering and pedogenesis and serve as an excellent proxy on winter monsoon variation. 11Cotton GhMYB7 is predominantly expressed in developing fibers and regulates secondary cell wall biosynthesis in transgenic Arabidopsis显示文摘The secondary cell wall in mature cotton fibers contains over 90%cellulose with low quantities of xylan and lignin.However,little is known regarding the regulation of secondary cell wall biosynthesis in cotton fibers.In this study,we characterized an R2R3-MYB transcription factor,Gh MYB7,in cotton.Gh MYB7 is expressed at a high level in developing fibers and encodes a MYB protein that is targeted to the cell nucleus and has transcriptional activation activity.Ectopic expression of Gh MYB7 in Arabidopsis resulted in small,curled,dark green leaves and also led to shorter inflorescence stems.A cross-sectional assay of basal stems revealed that cell wall thickness of vessels and interfascicular fibers was higher in transgenic lines overexpressing Gh MYB7 than in the wild type.Constitutive expression of Gh MYB7 in Arabidopsis activated the expression of a suite of secondary cell wall biosynthesis-related genes(including some secondary cell wall-associated transcription factors),leading to the ectopic deposition of cellulose and lignin.The ectopic deposition of secondary cell walls may have been initiated before the cessation of cell expansion.Moreover,Gh MYB7 was capable of binding to the promoter regions of At SND1 and At Ces A4,suggesting that Gh MYB7 may function upstream of NAC transcription factors.Collectively,these findings suggest that Gh MYB7 is a potential transcriptional activator,which may participate in regulating secondary cell wall biosynthesis of cotton fibers.Junfeng Huang Feng Chen Siyu Wu Juan Li Wenliang Xu 2016Science China(Life Sciences)2016,59,2:15
12Horizontal transfer of microRNAs: molecular mechanisms and clinical applications显示文摘A new class of RNA regulatory genes known as microRNAs(miRNAs)has been found to introduce a whole new layer of gene regulation in eukaryotes.The intensive studies of the past several years have demonstrated that miRNAs are not only found intracellularly,but are also detectable outside cells,including in various body fluids(e.g.serum,plasma,saliva,urine and milk).This phenomenon raises questions about the biological function of such extracellular miRNAs.Substantial amounts of extracellular miRNAs are enclosed in small membranous vesicles(e.g.exosomes,shedding vesicles and apoptotic bodies)or packaged with RNA-binding proteins(e.g.high-density lipoprotein,Argonaute 2 and nucleophosmin 1).These miRNAs may function as secreted signaling molecules to influence the recipient cell phenotypes.Furthermore,secreted extracellular miRNAs may reflect molecular changes in the cells from which they are derived and can therefore potentially serve as diagnostic indicators of disease.Several studies also point to the potential application of siRNA/miRNA delivery as a new therapeutic strategy for treating diseases.In this review,we summarize what is known about the mechanism of miRNA secretion.In addition,we describe the pathophysiological roles of secreted miRNAs and their clinical potential as diagnostic biomarkers and therapeutic drugs.We believe that miRNA transfer between cells will have a significant impact on biological research in the coming years.Xi Chen Hongwei Liang Junfeng Zhang Ke Zen Chen-Yu Zhang 2012Protein & Cell2012,3,1:15

14The earthquake-related disturbances in ionosphere and project of the first China seismo-electromagnetic satellite显示文摘Based on the case studies and statistical analysis of earthquake-related ionospheric disturbances mainly from DEMETER satellite,ground-based GPS and ionosounding data,this paper summarizes the statistical characteristics of earthquake-related ionospheric disturbances,including electromagnetic emissions,plasma perturbations and variation of energetic particle flux.According to the main results done by Chinese scientists, fusing with the existed study from global researches,seismo-ionospheric disturbances usually occurred a few days or hours before earthquake occurrence.Paralleling to these case studies,lithosphere-atmosphere-ionosphere (LAI) coupling mechanisms are checked and optimized.A thermo-electric model was proposed to explain the seismo-electromagnetic effects before earthquakes.A propagation model was put forward to explain the electromagnetic waves into the ionosphere.According to the requirement of earthquake prediction research,China seismo-electromagnetic satellite,the first space-based platform of Chinese earthquake stereoscopic observation system,is proposed and planned to launch at about the end of 2014.It focuses on checking the LAI model and distinguishing earthquake-related ionospheric disturbance.The preliminary design for the satellite will adopt CAST-2000 platform with eight payloads onboard.It is believed that the satellite will work together with the ground monitoring network to improve the capability to capture seismo-electromagnetic information,which is beneficial for earthquake monitoring and prediction researches.Xuhui Shen Xuemin Zhang Lanwei Wang Huaran Chen Yun Wu Shigeng Yuan Junfeng Shen Shufan Zhao Jiadong Qian Jianhai Ding 2011Earthquake Science2011,24,6:13

16Selective catalytic oxidation of NO over iron and manganese oxides supported on mesoporous silica显示文摘The selective catalytic oxidation (SCO) of NO was studied on a catalyst consisting of iron-manganese oxide supported on mesoporous silica (MPS) with different Mn/Fe ratios. Effects of the amount of manganese and iron, oxygen, and calcination temperature on NO conversion were also investigated. It was found that the Mn-Fe/MPS catalyst with a Mn/Fe molar ratio of 1 showed the highest activity at the calcination temperature of 400 °C. The results showed that over this catalyst, NO conversion reached 70% under the condition of 280 °C and a space velocity of 5000 h-1. SO2 and H2O had no adverse impact on the reaction activity when the SCO reaction temperature was above 240 °C. 17Exsolution microstructures in ultrahigh-pressure rocks:Progress, controversies and challenges显示文摘Exsolution microstructures in minerals of rocks from orogenic belts played an important role in recognition of ultrahigh-pressure (UHP) metamorphism in their host rocks by defining the subduction depth and improving our understanding of the dynamics during the subduction and exhumation of UHP rocks. However, it is a challenging scientific topic to distinguish the 'exsolution microstructures' from the 'non-exsolution microstructures' and decipher their geological implications. This paper describes the subtle differences between the 'exsolution microstructures' and the 'non-exsolution microstructures' and summarizes the progress in studies of exolution microstructures from UHP rocks and mantle rocks of ultra-deep origin. We emphasize distinguishing the 'exsolution microstructures' from the 'non-exsolution microstructures' based on their geometric topotaxy and chemistry. In order to decipher correctly the exsolution microstructures, it is crucial to understand the changes of chemistry and habits of host minerals with pressure and temperature. Therefore, it is important to combine observations of exsolution microstructure in natural rocks with experimental results at high pressure and temperature and results of micro-scale analyses. 18The Exhumation History of North Qaidam Thrust Belt Constrained by Apatite Fission Track Thermochronology:Implication for the Evolution of the Tibetan Plateau显示文摘Determining the spatio-temporal distribution of the deformation tied to the India-Eurasian convergence and the impact of pre-existing weaknesses on the Cenozoic crustal deformation is significant for understanding how the convergence between India and Eurasia contributed to the development of the Tibetan Plateau. The exhumation history of the northeastern Tibetan Plateau was addressed in this research using a new apatite fission track(AFT) study in the North Qaidam thrust belt(NQTB). Three granite samples collected from the Qaidam Shan pluton in the north tied to the Qaidam Shan thrust, with AFT ages clustering in the Eocene to Miocene. The other thirteen samples obtained from the Luliang Shan and Yuka plutons in the south related to the Luliang Shan thrust and they have showed predominantly the Cretaceous AFT ages. Related thermal history modeling based on grain ages and track lengths indicates rapid cooling events during the Eocene-early Oligocene and since late Miocene within the Qaidam Shan, in contrast to those in the Cretaceous and since the Oligocene-Miocene in the Luliang Shan and Yuka region. The results, combined with published the Cretaceous thermochronological ages in the Qaidam Shan region, suggest that the NQTB had undergo rapid exhumation during the accretions along the southern Asian Andean-type margin prior to the India-Eurasian collision. The Cenozoic deformation initially took place in the North Qaidam thrust belt by the Eocene, which is consistent with the recent claim that the deformation of the northeastern Tibetan Plateau initiated in the Eocene as a response to continental collision between India and Eurasia. 19Photocatalytic degradation kinetics and mechanism of pentachlorophenol based on superoxide radicals显示文摘The micron grade multi-metal oxide bismuth silicate (Bi 12 SiO 20,BSO) was prepared by the chemical solution decomposition technique.Photocatalytic degradation of pentachlorophenol (PCP) was investigated in the presence of BSO under xenon lamp irradiation.The reaction kinetics followed pseudo first-order and the degradation ratio achieved 99.1% after 120 min at an initial PCP concentration of 2.0 mg/L.The pH decreased from 6.2 to 4.6 and the dechlorination ratio was 68.4% after 120 min at an initial PCP concentration of 8.0 mg/L.The results of electron spin resonance showed that superoxide radical (O 2 · ) was largely responsible for the photocatalytic degradation of PCP.Interestingly,this result was different from that of previous photocatalytic reactions where valence band holes or hydroxyl radicals played the role of major oxidants.Some aromatic compounds and aliphatic carboxylic acids were determined by GC/MS as the reaction intermediates,which indicated that O 2 · can attack the bond between the carbon and chlorine atoms to form less chlorinated aromatic compounds.The aromatic compounds were further oxidized by O 2 · to generate aliphatic carboxylic acids which can be finally mineralized to CO 2 and H 2 O.Yang Li Junfeng Niu Lifeng Yin Wenlong Wang Yueping Bao Jing Chen Yanpei Duan 2011Journal of Environmental Sciences2011,23,11:9
20Rb and Sr Geochemical Characterization of the Chinese Loess Stratigraphy and Its Implications for Palaeomonsoon Climate显示文摘Concentrations and distributions of Rb and Sr in loess and palaeosol samples from the Luochuan profile have been studied, in grain-size fractions and chemical forms. Results show that Rb is quite rich in the fraction of less than 2μm, and exits only in the residual phase, while Sr is distributed in sand and silt fractions, occurring in the residual and carbonate phases. Therefore, variations of the concentrations of Rb and Sr in loess and palaeosols are closely related not only to dustfall compositions depending on winter monsoon wind strength but also to summer monsoon-induced pedogenic intensity. This indicates that variations of Rb/Sr ratio in Chinese loess sequences represent cyclic alternations of East Asian summer and winter monsoon climates on the orbital time-scale.
