1Downregulation of the Basic Peroxidase Isoenzyme from Zinnia elegans by Gibberellic Acid显示文摘Hypocotyl formation during the epigeal germination of seedlings is under strict hormonal regulation. In a 3 d old Zinnia elegans seedling system, gibberellic acid (GA3) exerts an opposite effect to that exerted by light on hypocotyl photomorphogenesis because GA3 promotes an etiolated-like growth with an inhibition of radial (secondary) growth. For this reason, the effect of GA3 on the basic peroxidase isoenzyme from Z. elegans (ZePrx), an enzyme involved in hypocotyl lignin biosynthesis, was studied. The results showed that GA3 reduces ZePrx activity, similarly to the way in which it reduces seedling secondary growth. This hormonal response is supported by the analysis of the ZePrx promoter, which contains four types of GA3-responsive cis-elements: the W Box/O2S; the Pyr Box; the GARE; and the Amy Box. 19Severe COVID-19 after liver transplantation, surviving the pitfalls of learning on-the-go: Three case reports显示文摘BACKGROUND The novel coronavirus 2019(COVID-19)pandemic has dramatically transformed the care of the liver transplant patient.In patients who are immunosuppressed and with multiple comorbidities,severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)infection has been associated with increased severity and mortality.The main objective of this report is to communicate our experience in the therapeutic management of SARS-CoV-2 infection in 3 liver transplant patients.Secondly,we stress the management and investigation of the contagious spreading into a liver transplant ward.CASE SUMMARY The patients were two women(aged 61 years and 62 years)and one man(aged 68 years),all of them having recently received a liver transplant.All three patients required intensive care unit admission and invasive mechanical ventilation.Two of them progressed severely until death.The other one,who received tocilizumab,had a good recovery.In the outbreak,the wife of one of the patients and four healthcare professionals involved in their care were also infected.CONCLUSION We illustrate in detail the evolution of a nosocomial COVID-19 outbreak in a liver transplant ward.We believe that these findings will contribute to a better understanding of the natural history of the disease and will improve the treatment of the liver transplant patient with COVID-19.Felipe Alconchel Pedro A Cascales-Campos Jose A Pons María Martínez Josefa Valiente-Campos Urszula Gajownik María L Ortiz Laura Martínez-Alarcón Pascual Parrilla Ricardo Robles Francisco Sánchez-Bueno Santiago Moreno Pablo Ramírez 2020World Journal of Hepatology2020,12,10:0
20Repeated jumps from Northwest Africa to the European continent: The case of peripheral populations of an annual plant显示文摘Peripheral populations(i.e.,those occurring on the edge of a species1 distribution range)can have different origins and genetic characteristics,and they may be critical for the conservation of genetic diversity.We investigated European peripheral populations of Scrophularia arguta,a widespread,annual plant distributed from Arabia to Northwest Africa and Macaronesia.Only two small disjunct population groups of this species occur in Europe,specifically in West-Central and Southeast Iberia.To disclose the origin of these populations and determine their importance for the conservation of S.arguta genetic diversity,we analyzed DNA sequences from two nuclear and two plastid regions and amplified fragment length polymorphism markers in populations sampled mainly across the western distribution range of the species,and modeled the species distribution under present and late Quaternary conditions.The analyses revealed the presence of three distinct lineages of S.arguta in Europe,as a result of multiple colonization waves at different times in the Quaternary.Two of these lineages,occurring in Southeast Iberia,are the result of more or less recent dispersal from Northwest Africa.In contrast,West-Central Iberian populations are strongly differentiated from the remaining range of S.arguta and can be considered as peripheral relict populations.Our study is the first to demonstrate the occurrence of at least three colonizations of the European continent from Africa by a native plant species.The diverse histories and genetic makeup of the resulting populations confirm the importance of peripheral populations,and particularly of ancient relict populations,for the conservation of global genetic diversity in widespread species.Francisco Javier Valtuena Mario Fernández-Mazuecos Tomás Rodríguez-Riano Josefa López Ana Ortega-Olivencia 2020Journal of Systematics and Evolution2020,58,4:0
