| 3 | Size distribution and diffuse pollution impacts of PAHs in street dust in urban streams in the Yangtze River Delta显示文摘Particles of dust washed off streets by stormwater are an important pathway of polyaromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs) into urban streams.This article presented a comprehensive assessment of the size distribution of PAHs in street dust particles,the potential risks of the particles in urban streams,and the sources and sinks of PAHs in the stream network.This assessment was based on measurements of 16 PAHs from the USEPA priority list in street dust particles and river sediments in Xincheng,China.The content of total PAHs ranged from 1629 to 8986 μg/kg in street dust particles,where smaller particles have a higher concentrations.Approximately 55% of the total PAHs were associated with particles less than 250 μm which accounted for 40% of the total mass of street dust.The PAH quantities increased from 2.41 to 46.86 μg/m2 in the sequence of new residential,rising through main roads,old town residential,commercial and industrial areas.The sediments in stream reaches in town were found to be sinks for street dust particle PAHs.The research findings suggested that particle size,land use and the hydrological conditions in the stream network were the factors which most influenced the total loads of PAH in the receiving water bodies. | ZHAO Hongtao YIN Chengqing CHEN Meixue WANG Weidong Jefferies Chris SHAN Baoqing | 2009 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2009，21，2： | 17 |

| 6 | Endocrine impact of Helicobacter pylori:Focus on ghrelin and ghrelin o-acyltransferase显示文摘Ghrelin is predominantly produced by the gastric enteroendocrine cell compartment and is octanoylated by the recently discovered ghrelin o-acyltransferase (GOAT) before secretion into the bloodstream. This octanoylation is essential for many of the biological properties of ghrelin including appetite stimulation and anti-inflammatory properties as only the acylated form of ghrelin binds to the ghrelin receptor, the growth hormone secretagogue receptor (GHS-R). Given the gastric location of ghrelin production, it is perhaps not surprising that insult to the gastric mucosa affects circulating ghrelin levels in humans. Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infects more than f ifty percent of the world's population and once established within the gastric mucosa, can persist for life. Infection is associated with chronic gastritis, gastric atrophy and ulceration, reduced appetite and a lower body mass index (BMI). The large majority of studies investigating levels of circulating ghrelin and ghrelin expression in the stomach in patients with H. pylori infection indicate that the bacterium has a negative impact on ghrelin production and/or secretion. Eradication of infection restores ghrelin, improves appetite and increases BMI in some studies, however, a causative relationship between H. pylori-associated serum ghrelin decline and food intake and obesity has not been established. Most studies measure total ghrelin in the circulation although the measurement of the ratio of acyl/total ghrelin gives a clearer indication that the ghrelin acylation process is altered during infection and atrophy. The potential complications of this condition are discussed here through a series of cases presented to our centre. A retrospective analysis of four cases, which were diagnosed and treated, was performed. These included two cases of gastrointestinal haemorrhage, one case of perforation and one case of enterolith obstruction. All of these cases were secondary to jejunal diverticulosis and treated surgically. This was accompanied by a literature search to identify the different modalities for diagnosis and treatment of this condition. JD is rare and may lead to a diagnostic delay. Eventhough most of these are incidental findings, it remains very concerning for both patients and treating clinicians. Differentiating and predicting malignant transformation in pancreatic cystic lesions is clinically challenging. Current evaluation of suspicious cystic lesions includes a combination of radiologic imaging, endoscopic ultrasound(EUS) and cyst fluid analyses. Despite these attempts, precise diagnostic stratification among nonmucinous, mucinous, and malignant cystic lesions is often not possible until surgical resection. EUS-guided needle based confocal laser endomicroscopy(n CLE) for evaluation of pancreatic cysts is emerging as a powerful technique with remarkable potential.
