1Hydraulic resistance of river ice jams显示文摘The hydraulic resistance of the river ice jams consists of the resistances due to the seepage flow through the jam and the shear stress on the undersurface of the jam. Existing empirical formulations consider only the the undersurface resistance of the jam, and come up with relations between the jam resistance and the jam thickness with very slight theoretical basis. Based on the analysis of the seepage flow resistance and the flow resistance of the undersurface of the jam, it is shown that the resistance due to the seepage flow is a dominating part of the jam resistance, except for the portion of the jam where the thickness is very small. This analysis also shows that the total jam resistance can be approximated by a linear function of the jam thickness or the ratio of the jam thickness to the flow depth under the jam.Lin Fan Ze-yu Mao Hung Tao Shen 2019Journal of Hydrodynamics2019,31,3:2

12Thermal Design and Optimization of Heat Pipe Radiator for Satellites显示文摘Satellite's thermal control subsystem (TCS) has to maintain components and structure within their specified temperature limits during satellite service life. TCS designers have to face the challenge of reducing both the weight of the system and required heater power while keeping components temperature within their design range. For a space based heat pipe radiator system, several researchers have published different approaches to reach such goal. This paper presents a thermal design and optimization of a heat pipe radiator applied to a practical engineering design application. For this study, a prospective communication satellite payload panel with applied passive thermal control techniques was considered. The thermal passive techniques used in this design mainly include multilayer insulation (MLI) blankets, optical solar reflectors (OSR), selected thermal coatings, interface fillers and constant conductance heat pipes. The heat pipe network is comprised of some heat pipes embedded in the panel and some mounted on inner surface of the panel. Embedded heat pipes are placed under high heat dissipation equipments and their size is fixed; minimum weight of the radiator is achieved by a minimum weight of the mounted heat pipes. Hence, size of the mounted heat pipes is optimized. A thermal model was built and parameterized for transient thermal analysis and optimization. Temperature requirements of components in both worst case conditions (Hot case and cold case) were satisfied under optimal sizing of mounted heat pipes.HUNG Sam Kien Fan Cesar 2010Computer Aided Drafting,Design and Manufacturing2010,20,1:1

18Stem cell transplantation and/or adenoviral glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor promote functional recovery in hemiparkinsonian rats显示文摘BACKGROUND Parkinson’s disease(PD)is a neurological disorder characterized by the progressive loss of midbrain dopamine(DA)neurons.Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells(BMSCs)can differentiate into multiple cell types including neurons and glia.Transplantation of BMSCs is regarded as a potential approach for promoting neural regeneration.Glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor(GDNF)can induce BMSC differentiation into neuron-like cells.This work evaluated the efficacy of nigral grafts of human BMSCs(hMSCs)and/or adenoviral(Ad)GDNF gene transfer in 6-hydroxydopamine(6-OHDA)-lesioned hemiparkinsonian rats.AIM To evaluate the efficacy of nigral grafts of hMSCs and/or Ad-GDNF gene transfer in 6-OHDA-lesioned hemiparkinsonian rats.METHODS We used immortalized hMSCs,which retain their potential for neuronal differentiation.hMSCs,preinduced hMSCs,or Ad-GDNF effectively enhanced neuronal connections in cultured neurons.In vivo,preinduced hMSCs and/or Ad-GDNF were injected into the substantia nigra(SN)after induction of a unilateral 6-OHDA lesion in the nigrostriatal pathway.RESULTS Hemiparkinsonian rats that received preinduced hMSC graft and/or Ad-GDNF showed significant recovery of apomorphine-induced rotational behavior and the number of nigral DA neurons.However,DA levels in the striatum were not restored by these therapeutic treatments.Grafted hMSCs might reconstitute a niche to support tissue repair rather than contribute to the generation of new neurons in the injured SN.CONCLUSION The results suggest that preinduced hMSC grafts exert a regenerative effect and may have the potential to improve clinical outcome.May-Jywan Tsai Shih-Chieh Hung Ching-Feng Weng Su-Fen Fan Dann-Ying Liou Wen-Cheng Huang Kang-Du Liu Henrich Cheng 2021World Journal of Stem Cells2021,13,1:1
