| 1 | The seasonal variations of δ^(18)O , Cl^- , Na^+ ,NO_3^- and Ca^(2+) in the snow and firn recovered from Princess Elizabeth Land, Antarctica显示文摘Snow and firn samples recovered from two snow pits (2.5 and 4.5m deep) and one 50-m firn core along the route of the 1996/1997 Chinese First Antarctic Inland Traverse Expedition in Princess Elizabeth Land, East Antarctica, have been measured for chemical composition and oxygen isotope ratio. | 2 | MECHANICS OF RELAXING SiGe ISLANDS ON A VISCOUS GLASS显示文摘A process has been developed recently to fabricate a structure com-prising,from top to bottom,a SiGe thin film,a glass layer,and a Si wafer.TheSiGe film is a perfect crystal,and is under biaxial compression.The SiGe film ispatterned into islands.On annealing,the glass flows and the islands relax.Theresulting strain-free islands are used as substrates,to grow epitaxial optoelectronicdevices.This article describes a series of studies on the annealing process,combiningexperiment and theory.A small island relaxes by expansion,starting at the edgesand diffusing to the center.A large island wrinkles before the expansion reaches thecenter.After some time,the wrinkles either disappear,or cause the island to fracture.We model the island as an elastic plate,and the glass layer as a viscous liquid.Thestrains in the islands are measured by X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy,andthe wrinkle amplitudes by atomic force microscope.The data are compared with thetheoretical predictions.We determine the conditions under which the islands relax byexpansion without significant wrinkling,and demonstrate that a cap layer suppresseswrinkles,relaxing a large island crack-free. | R. | 6 | Satellite SAR observation of shallow bottom topography of the east Australia Sea显示文摘A preliminary account of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imaging mechanisms of oceanic bottom topographic features and a description of the principles of the information extracted from SAR images and the processing and the analysis technology of SAR images are made. Some results were obtained from researching shallow topography and its bathymetric features of the regions of offshore in the east Australia Sea by ERS-1 SAR images. The preliminary research indicates that these features covered with SAR have never been reported before and some results of them are yielded for the first time in Australia. This information is very valuable in a great number of applications to oceanic engineering, shipping navigation, marine fishery and environment, as well as oceanographic research and development.
