1Diurnal freeze/thaw cycles of the ground surface on the Tibetan Plateau显示文摘The exchange of energy and water between the lithosphere and atmosphere mainly takes place at the ground surface. Therefore, freeze/thaw condition at the ground surface is an important factor in ex- amining the interactions between the land surface and atmosphere. Based on the observation data obtained by CEOP/CAMP-Tibet, the diurnal freeze/thaw cycles of the ground surface near Naqu, central Tibetan Plateau was preliminarily analyzed. The results show that the surface layer was completely frozen for approximately one month. However, the time that the ground surface experienced diurnal freeze/thaw cycles was about 6 months. The high frequency of freeze/thaw cycles at the ground surface significantly influences water and energy exchanges between ground and atmosphere over half a year. 3NUMERICAL EVALUATION OF TWO-FLUID MIXING IN A SWIRL MICRO-MIXER显示文摘A collaborative investigation of two-fluid mixing in a swirl micro-mixer was carried out by the Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the Tokyo Denki University. Pure water and a mixture of glycerol and water were separately injected into branch channels and they were subsequently mixed in the central chamber. The two-fluid flow pattern was numerically modeled, in which the dependence of the mixture viscosity and density on the mass fraction of glycerol in the mixing fluid was carefully taken into consideration. The mixing performance of the two fluids was evaluated by varying the Reynolds numbers and the mass fractions of glycerol in water. The mixing process was extensively analyzed using streamline maps and contour plotting distributions of pressure and glycerol concentration. The numerical results show that the acceptable uniformity of mixing at Re = 0.1 is primarily attributed to the time-consuming molecular diffusion, whereas the cost-effective mixing at Re > 500 was obtained because of the generation of the swirling flow. The increasing mass fraction of glycerol in water was found to attenuate the mixing performance. 4Integrity monitoring of fixed ambiguity Precise Point Positioning(PPP)solutions显示文摘Traditional positioning methods,such as conventional Real Time Kinematic(cRTK)rely upon local reference networks to enable users to achieve high-accuracy positioning.The need for such relatively dense networks has significant cost implications.Precise Point Positioning(PPP)on the other hand is a positioning method capable of centimeter-level positioning without the need for such local networks,hence providing significant cost benefits especially in remote areas.This paper presents the state-of-the-art PPP method using both GPS and GLONASS measurements to estimate the float position solution before attempting to resolve GPS integer ambiguities.Integrity monitoring is carried out using the Imperial College Carrier-phase Receiver Autonomous Integrity Monitoring method.A new method to detect and exclude GPS base-satellite failures is developed.A base-satellite is a satellite whose measurements are differenced from other satellite’s measurements when using between-satellite-differenced measurements to estimate position.The failure detection and exclusion methods are tested using static GNSS data recorded by International GNSS Service stations both in static and dynamic processing modes.The results show that failure detection can be achieved in all cases tested and failure exclusion can be achieved for static cases.In the kinematic processing cases,failure exclusion is more difficult because the higher noise in the measurement residuals increases the difficulty to distinguish between failures associated with the base-satellite and other satellites.Altti JOKINEN Shaojun FENG Wolfgang SCHUSTER Washington OCHIENG Chris HIDE Terry MOORE Chris HILL 2013Geo-Spatial Information Science2013,16,3:3
5SIMULTANEOUS FLOW VISUALIZATION AND WALL-PRESSURE MEASUR EMENT OF THE TURBULENT SEPARATED AND REATTACHING FLOW OVER A BACKWARD-FACING STEP显示文摘Unsteady behaviors of the large-scale vortical structure superimposed in the turbulent separated and reattaching flow over a backward-facing step were convincingly delineated by performing simultaneous measurements of the wall pressure fluctuations and visualizations of the flow. Toward this end,a synchronized instrumentation system integrated with the microphone array and the high-speed camera was established. The smoke-wire technique was employed to visualize the unsteady events. A thorough analysis based on the wall pressure fluctuations disclosed that the large-scale vortical structure shedding at the frequency of fH /U 0= 0.064 gave a primary contribution to the wall pressure fluctuations,and consequently dominated unsteady behaviors of the turbulent shear layer. The convection velocity of the large-scale vortical structure was determined as U C=0.55 U 0. The instantaneous flow visualizations and wall pressure were compared in a straightforward manner. Below the separation bubble and the reattachment zone,the negative peak of the time-varying wall pressure was in phase with passage of the local large-scale vortical structure. 9Quasi-stationary flow structure in turbidity currents显示文摘A turbidity current is a particle-laden current driven by density differences due to suspended sediment particles.Turbidity currents can transport large amounts of sediment down slopes over great distances,and play a significant role in fluvial,lake and submarine systems.To better understand the sediment transport process,the flow system of an experimentally produced turbidity current in an inclined flume was investigated using video processing.We observed that the current progresses with constant frontal velocity and maintains an unchanged global interface geometry.In addition,the spatio-temporal profiles of the inner mean and turbulence velocity obtained by ultrasound velocity profiler(UVP)showed that similar distributions were maintained,with low dissipation.The results indicate that the turbidity current progressed in a quasi-stationary state,which enabled long-distance sediment transport.To understand the mechanisms behind the quasi-stationary flow,we analyzed the forces acting on the turbidity current.We found that under particular densities of suspended particles,the gravitational force is balanced by the viscous forces along the slope direction.We conclude that this specific force balance induces the quasi-stationary flow structure,enabling the long-distance transport of a substantial amount of sediment downstream with low dissipation.Shun Nomura Giovanni De Cesare Mikito Furuichi Yasushi Takeda Hide Sakaguchi 2020International Journal of Sediment Research2020,35,6:2

High-quality precision-controlled turntable facilities were established at S hanghai Jiaotong University and Tokyo Denki University independently. Collabor ative investigations of vortex breakdown were carried out using CFD, Laser Doppl er Velocimetry (LDV) and streakline visualization, respectively. The characteri stics of vortex breakdown were delineated in terms of comparative investigation using numerical and experimental results.
