1Role of Moringa oleifera in regulation of diabetes-induced oxidative stress显示文摘Objective:To evaluate the antioxidant activity of aqueous extract of Atoringa oleifeta M.oleifera) young leaves by in vivo as well as in vitro assays.Methods:In vitro study included estimation of total phenolic,total ilavonol,total flavonoid and total antioxidant power(FRAP assay).Tn addition, in vivo study was done with the identified most effective dose of 200 nig/kg of its lyophilized powder on normal and diabetic rats.Its effect on different oxidative free radical scavenging enzymes,viz,superoxide dismutase(SOD),catalase(CAT),glutathione-S-transferase(GST),lipid peroxide(LPO) contents were measured.Results:Significant increase in activities of SOD.CAT, GST while,a decrease in LPO content was observed.Whereas,total phenolic,flavonoid and ilavonol contents in the extract were found to be 120 mg/g of CAK,40.5 mg/g of QEK and 12.12 mg/g of QE,respectively.On the other hand.FRAP assay results of M.oleifera leaves was(85.00±5.00)μM of Fe^+/g of extract powder.Conclusions:The significant antioxidant activities of M.oleifera leaves from both in vivo as well as in vitro studies suggests that the regular intake of its leaves through diet can protect normal as well as diabetic patients against oxidative damage.Dolly Jaiswal Prashant Kumar Rai Shikha Mehta Sanjukta Chatterji Surekha Shukla Devendra Kumar Rai Gaurav Sharma Bechan Sharma Shahidul khair Geeta Watal 2013Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2013,6,6:11
2Development and characterization of an atorvastatin solid dispersion formulation using skimmed milk for improved oral bioavailability显示文摘Atorvastatin has low aqueous solubility resulting in low oral bioavailability(12%)and thus presents a challenge in formulating a suitable dosage form.To improve the aqueous solubility,a solid dispersion formulation of atorvasta tin was prepared by lyophilization utilising skimmed milk as a carrier.Six different formulations were prepared with varying ratios of drug and carrier and the corresponding physical mixtures were also prepared.The formation of a solid dispersion formulation was confirmed by differential scanning ca lorimetry and X-ray diffraction studies.The optimum drug-to-carrier ratio of 1:9 en hanced solubility nearly 33-fold as compared to pure drug.In vitro drug release studies exhibited a cumulative release of 83.69% as compared to 22.7% for the pure drug.Additionally,scanning electron microscopy studies suggested the conversion of crystalline atorvastatin to an amorphous form.In a Triton-induced hyperlipidemia model,a 3-fold increase in the lipid lowering potential was obtained with the reformulated drug as compared to pure drug.These results suggest that solid dispersion of atorvastatin using skimmed milk as carrier is a promising approach for oral delivery of atorvastatin.Ankush Choudhary Avtar C.Rana Geeta Aggarwal Virender Kumar Foziyah Zakir 2012Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B2012,2,4:10
3Species diversity, regeneration and dominance as influenced by canopy gaps and their characteristics in tropical evergreen forests of Western Ghats, India显示文摘Canopy gaps play a significant role in maintaining structure and composition of tropical forests. This study was carried out in tropical evergreen forests of central Western Ghats in India to understand the influence of canopy gap size and the relationship of gap regime attributes to diversity measures and regeneration. The average gap size in the study area was found to be 396 m2 and around half of gaps were 4–8 years old. Gaps created by natural single tree fall were smaller in size but significantly higher in number. Diversity and regeneration of woody species were compared with canopy gaps and intact vegetation. Species richness and diversity was higher in gaps than in intact vegetation. Macaranga peltata, a shade intolerant species dominated gaps while intact vegetation was dominated by shade tolerant Kingiodendron pinnatum.Gap size significantly influenced species diversity and regeneration. Gap area and age were significantly and negatively correlated with diversity measures but positively correlated with regeneration. Among all the attributes of gaps, regeneration was significantly positively correlated with light intensity. Gaps maintained species diversity and favored regeneration of woody species. 4Comparison of design of intraocular lens versus the material for PCO prevention显示文摘AIM: To evaluate the influence of different intraocular lens(IOL) designs made of PMMA on posterior capsular opacification(PCO) and compare with foldable designs.· METHODS: Phacoemulsification and IOL implantation was done in one eye of 24 New Zealand White rabbits, with IOL of two different designs (Square edged or round edge) and two different materials(PMMA or HEMA). After three months, the animals were sacrificed and enucleated. Evaluation of PCO included posterior view, migration of anterior capsular epithelial cells to the posterior capsule following epithelial-mesenchymal transition were assessed by staining the histological sections of posterior capsule by hematoxylin-eosin(HE) and Periodic acid- Schiff (PAS). The IOLs were extracted and stained with HE to evaluate the presence of adherent cells on the lens surface. · RESULTS: PCO was highest with round edged rigid lens. 5培养角膜缘上皮移植后穿透性角膜移植术的早期结果显示文摘目的:描述曾行培养角膜缘上皮移植的患者再行穿透性角膜移植(PKP)的早期结果。 方法:对因化学烧伤造成角膜缘干细胞缺乏而行培养的角膜缘上皮移植后又进行穿透性角膜移植术的患者有关人口统计学、原发病因、角膜缘移植类型、眼表稳定性、视力、移植片透明度和并发症方面的资料进行回顾和复习。对受体角膜片组织病理学特征进行研究,重点观察上皮状态。 结果:在患有角膜缘干细胞缺乏而进行培养的角膜缘上皮移植术的125例患者中,15例接受了穿透性角膜移植术(PKP)。角膜缘上皮移植术后(自体移植组n=11,同种异体移植组n=4)平均间隔时间为7个月(范围2—12个月)。同种异体移植组的4例患者均接受了免疫抑制疗法。15只眼中14只眼(93%)获得了含有稳定的角膜上皮的健全的角膜植片。15只眼中14只眼术前最佳矫正视力低于20/200。PKP后平均随访8.3±5.0个月,8只眼最佳矫正视力高于20/60,5只眼最佳矫正视力20/200至20/60。2只眼低于20/200。15只眼中3只眼发生异体角膜植片的排斥反应但被成功治疗。1只眼发生植片排斥的同时发生了青光眼。同种异体角膜缘上皮移植无一例显示排斥表现。 结论:培养的角膜缘上皮移植后,在形成稳定的眼表后行PKP的早期结果是良好的。为了避免排斥反应,培养的同种异体角膜缘上皮移植者行充分的免疫抑制治疗是必需的。角膜同种异体移植能够单独排斥同种异体角膜缘移植物。Virender S. 8Therapeutic potential of human embryonic stem cells in type 2 diabetes mellitus显示文摘AIM:To evaluate the safety and efficacy of human embryonic stem cells(h ESCs)for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM).METHODS:Patients with a previous history of diabetes and its associated complications were enrolled and injected with hE SC lines as per the defined protocol.The patients were assessed using Nutech functional score(NFS),a numeric scoring scale to evaluate the patients for 11 diagnostic parameters.Patients were evaluated at baseline and at the end of treatment period 1(T1).All the parameters were graded on the NFS scale from 1to 5.Highest possible grade(HPG)of 5 was considered as the grade of best improvement.RESULTS:Overall,94.8%of the patients showed improvement by at least one grade of NFS at the end of T1.For all the 11 parameters evaluated,54%of patients achieved HPG after treatment.The four essential parameters(improvement in glycated hemoglobin(HbA 1c)and insulin level,and fall in number of other oral hypoglycemic drugs with and without insulin)are presented in detail.For Hb A1c,72.6%of patients at the end of T1 met the World Health Organization cut off value,i.e.,6.5%of HbA 1c.For insulin level,65.9%of patients at the end of T1 were able to achieve HPG.After treatment,the improvement was seen in 16.3%of patients who required no more than two medications along with insulin.Similarly,21.5%of patients were improved as their dosage regimen for using oral drugs was reduced to 1-2 from 5.CONCLUSION:hE SC therapy is beneficial in patients with diabetes and helps in reducing their dependence on insulin and other medicines.Geeta Shroff 2016World Journal of Stem Cells2016,8,7:2

10Improved dielectric and electro-optical parameters of nematic liquid crystal doped with magnetic nanoparticles显示文摘This study investigates the effect of magnetic nanoparticles(NPs) on the weakly polar nematic liquid crystal(NLC).Different parameters of dielectric data were measured for both the homeotropic and planar aligned samples as a function of frequency and temperature and the substantial changes have been noticed for the doped systems. Dielectric permittivity has been increased after the dispersion of magnetic NPs in the pure NLC. Dielectric anisotropy has also been influenced by incorporating the magnetic NPs with the NLC molecules. These results were attributed to the dipole–dipole interaction between the magnetic nanoparticles and nematic liquid crystal molecules. Electro-optical study indicated the faster rise time and fall time of the doped systems as compare to pure NLC. Threshold voltage has been calculated and found to be decreased for the doped systems. Moreover, we have also calculated the rotational viscosity and the splay elastic constant for pure and the doped systems. Both the rotational viscosity and splay elastic constant of the doped systems are found to be considerably lower than those of pure NLC. Change in these properties has been explained on the basis of molecular disturbances created by the interaction between the magnetic nanoparticle and LC director.
