1Geochemical studies on the source region of Asian dust显示文摘The North China and the neighbouring Mongolia in Asian Interior is characterized by extremely dry climate, resulted in one of the world's major dust emission centres. Deciphering the source region of Asian dust is critical for revealing the mechanism of the dust production, interpreting the paleo-environmental records of eolian deposits, predicting the overall environmental effects of dust, and setting the strategies for the control of contemporary dust storms. This paper summarizes the geochemical methods applied to the source tracing of Asian dust. Nd-Sr isotopes were the most extensively studied source tracer of Asian dust and have been successfully applied in many cases. Geochemistry of detrital monomineral shows great theoretical advantages in source tracing and deserves further studies. The short-range transportation of Chinese loess with direction similar to that of the prevailing near surface wind is revealed. Source tracing also shows that the Asian dust has two ultimate material sources from the northern margin of the Tibetan Plateau and the Central Asian Orogen, which confirms the importance of mountain processes in the production of silt eolian particles. Based on the recent progresses on the source tracing of Asian dust, discussions are expanded on the natural background of Asian dust storms and potential anthropogenic influence, the materials evolution of the source regions of Asian dust and its relationships with climate changes and Tibetan uplift, and the role of Tibetan uplift in the Asian dust system.CHEN Jun LI GaoJun 2011Science China Earth Sciences2011,54,9:44
2U-Pb ages of zircon grains reveal a proximal dust source of the Xiashu loess, Lower Yangtze River region, China显示文摘Deciphering the eolian sources is critical to understand the paleo-significance of the Quaternary eolian deposits(the Xiashu loess)in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River.Both a local source from the fluvial sediments of the Yangtze River and a distal source from the northern deserts similar to that of the loess on the Chinese Loess Plateau(CLP)have been proposed.Recent researches show great advantages of detrital zircon ages as a source tracer for Asian dust based on the laser ablation U-Pb isotopic dating technique.This work presents the U-Pb ages of zircon grains extracted from the Xiashu loess.The results indicate that the Xiashu loess has a very different age distribution of zircon grains from that of the loess on the CLP as well as the materials in the arid lands of the Asian Interior.Instead,the zircon ages of the Xiashu loess are indistinguishable from the fluvial sediments of the Yangtze River,indicating the dominance of proximal dust source.Proximal source of the Xiashu loess implies that extensive eolian processes might have existed in the currently wet South China,possibly in response to the full glacial conditions after the middle Pleistocene transition of global climate.Fei Liu Gaojun Li Jun Chen 2014Chinese Science Bulletin2014,59,20:23
3Sr-Nd isotope geochemistry of eolian dust of the arid-semiarid areas in China: Implications for loess provenance and monsoon evolution显示文摘Minerals and rocks have distinct 87Sr/86Sr and 143Nd/144Nd ratios, depending on their geological origin and ages, and these isotope ratios are less altered than elemental composition during transport in the atmosphere or after deposition as sediments, thus stable isotopes of Sr and Nd have great potential as tracers for provenance and trans- port of materials. During the hypergene process, Sr isotope ratios of sediments are controlled by their parent rocks, particle sizes and chemical weathering. In general, the higher the Sr isotope ratios of parent rocks, and/or the more the fine-grained fractions, and/or the stronger the chemical weathering, thus the higher the Sr isotope ratios of sediments. On the contrary, there are lower Sr isotope ratios of sedi- ments. Nd isotope ratios of sediments, independent of their particle sizes and chemical weathering, are only associated with parent rocks. For the prove- nance of the Chinese Loess Plateau, different re- seachers drew discordant and even contradictory conclusions by using the method of Sr-Nd isotopic tracing. From the previous Nd isotope data, it is con- sidered that the Tarim Basin, deserts in the central and west parts of Inner Mongolia and the Tibetan Plateau are the main sources of the Chinese Loess Plateau, and are also manufacturers for eolian dust of the Far East regions, together with the Chinese Loess Plateau. Sr isotope ratios of eolian dust are solely affected by wind sorting and weather- ing-pedogenesis due to its homogeneous composi- tion in the Chinese Loess Plateau. Wind sorting isrelated to the East Asian winter monsoon but weath- ering-pedogenesis is mainly associated with the East Asian summer monsoon. Studies on Sr isotopic compositions of the loess-paleosol sequence suggest that 87Sr/86Sr ratios in acid-soluble materials are an index for chemical weathering intensity of the Chi- nese Loess Plateau, indicating the East Asian sum- mer monsoon variations, whereas 87Sr/86Sr ratios in acid-insoluble materials are significantly controlled by particle sizes, and can be used as a proxy indicator reflecting the East Asian winter monsoon variations. Variations of 87Sr/86Sr ratios in acid-insoluble materi- als in the past 2.6Ma further demonstrate that the East Asian winter monsoon gradually strengthened since the beginning of the Quaternary period. 4Consensus among Chinese experts on standard interventional therapy for deep venous thrombosis of lower extremity(second edition)显示文摘This is an update on the first edition of the expert consensus. This document discusses the indications and contraindications of interventional treatment methods for deep venous thrombosis such as anticoagulation, catheter-directed thrombolysis, percutaneous mechanical thrombectomy, percutaneous transluminal angioplasty and stent implantation. The operational procedures, considerations, preoperative management, and prevention of complications were also updated, supplemented, and revised. 6Parameters Optimization of Synergetic Recognition Approach显示文摘Synergetic pattern recognition is a novel and effective pattern recognition method, and has some advantages in image recognition. Researches have shown that attention parameters λ and parameters B, C directly influence on the recognition results, but there is no general research theory to control these parameters in the recognition process. We abstractly analyze these parameters in this paper, and purpose a novel parameters optimization method based on simulated annealing algorithm. SA algorithm has good optimization performance and is used to search the global optimized solution of these parameters. 8The role of earthquake-induced landslides in erosion and weathering from active mountain ranges:Progress and perspectives显示文摘Earthquakes play a fundamental role in the evolution of Earth’s topography through co-seismic uplift and subsidence,as well as erosion through widespread landslides induced by ground motion.Earthquake-induced landslides can result in exceptional increases in the transfer of mass from landscapes,supplying sediment to rivers where impacts can last for decades or longer.Landslides can also erode vegetation and soils,in addition to exposing freshly ground rock mass,which can both result in regionally significant carbon transfers.Recent work has sought to quantify the fluxes,rates,and temporal patterns of the impacts on earth surface processes generated by these tectonic events.In this review,we focus on the impacts of earthquake-induced landslides on erosion and sediment flux,river water chemistry,and carbon export through the lens of the well-studied 2008 Wenchuan earthquake.We then discuss these themes in the context of works from the 1999 Taiwan Chi-Chi earthquake,2015 Nepalese Gorkha earthquake,and New Zealand historical earthquakes,altogether highlighting an important role of earthquake-induced landslides in erosion and weathering along tectonically active mountain ranges.We suggest that more monitoring,geochemical tracing,paleo-records,and/or modelling studies are needed to compare the processes and fluxes of catchment erosion and weathering before and after earthquake events,which will help to deepen our understanding not only of the impacts of earthquake-induced landslides on earth surface processes,but also the linkage among high magnitude events,continental erosion and weathering,and the long-term global carbon cycle.Zhangdong JIN Robert G.HILTON AJoshua WEST Gen K.LI Fei ZHANG Jin WANG Gaojun LI Xuanmei FAN Meng-Long HSIEH 2021Science China Earth Sciences2021,64,12:2
