Global characterization and monitoring of forest cover using Landsat data: opportunities and challenges显示文摘The compilation of global Landsat data-sets and the ever-lowering costs of computing now make it feasible to monitor the Earth’s land cover at Landsat resolutions of 30 m.In this article,we describe the methods to create global products of forest cover and cover change at Landsat resolutions.Nevertheless, there are many challenges in ensuring the creation of high-quality products. And we propose various ways in which the challenges can be overcome.Among the challenges are the need for atmospheric correction, incorrect calibration coefficients in some of the data-sets,the different phenologies between compila-tions,the need for terrain correction, the lack of consistent reference data for training and accuracy assessment, and the need for highly automated character-ization and change detection. We propose and evaluate the creation and use of surface reflectance products, improved selection of scenes to reduce phenological differences, terrain illumination correction, automated training selection, and the use of information extraction procedures robust to errors in training data along with several other issues. At several stages we use Moderate Resolution Spectro-radiometer data and products to assist our analysis.A global working prototype product of forest cover and forest cover change is included. | John R.Townshend Jeffrey G.Masek Chengquan Huang Eric.F.Vermote Feng Gao Saurabh Channan Joseph O.Sexton Min Feng Raghuram Narasimhan Dohyung Kim Kuan Song Danxia Song Xiao-Peng Song Praveen Noojipady Bin Tan Matthew C.Hansen Mengxue Li Robert E.Wolfe | 2012 | International Journal of Digital Earth2012,5,5: | 10
Risk analysis for the highly pathogenic avian influenza in China's Mainland using meta-modeling显示文摘A logistic model was employed to correlate the outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) with related environmental factors and the migration of birds. Based on MODIS data of the normalized difference vegetation index, environmental factors were considered in generating a probability map with the aid of logistic regression. A Bayesian maximum entropy model was employed to explore the spatial and temporal correlations of HPAI incidence. The results show that proximity to water bodies and national highways was statistically relevant to the occurrence of HPAI. Migratory birds, mainly waterfowl, were important infection sources in HPAI transmission. In addition, the HPAI outbreaks had high spatiotemporal autocorrelation. This epidemic spatial range fluctuated 45 km owing to different distribution patterns of cities and water bodies. Furthermore, two outbreaks were likely to occur with a period of 22 d. The potential risk of occurrence of HPAI in China's Mainland for the period from January 23 to February 17, 2004 was simulated based on these findings, providing a useful meta-model framework for the application of environmental factors in the prediction of HPAI risk. | CAO ChunXiang XU Min CHANG ChaoYi XUE Yong ZHONG ShaoBo FANG LiQun CAO WuChun ZHANG Hao GAO MengXu HE QiSheng ZHAO Jian CHEN Wei ZHENG Sheng LI XiaoWen | 2010 | Chinese Science Bulletin2010,55,36: | 9
The novel H1N1 Influenza A global airline transmission and early warning without travel containments显示文摘A novel influenza A (H1N1) has been spreading worldwide. Early studies implied that international air travels might be key cause of a severe potential pandemic without appropriate containments. In this study, early outbreaks in Mexico and some cities of United States were used to estimate the preliminary epidemic parameters by applying adjusted SEIR epidemiological model, indicating transmissibility infectivity of the virus. According to the findings, a new spatial allocation model totally based on the real-time airline data was established to assess the potential spreading of H1N1 from Mexico to the world. Our estimates find the basic reproductive number R0 of H1N1 is around 3.4, and the effective reproductive number fall sharply by effective containment strategies. The finding also implies Spain, Canada, France, Panama, Peru are the most possible country to be involved in severe endemic H1N1 spreading. | CHANG ChaoYi CAO ChunXiang WANG Qiao CHEN Yu CAO ZhiDong ZHANG Hao DONG Lei ZHAO Jian XU Min GAO MengXu ZHONG ShaoBo HE QiSheng WANG JinFeng LI XiaoWen | 2010 | Chinese Science Bulletin2010,55,26: | 6
A fully automatic registration approach based on contour and SIFT for HJ-1 images显示文摘To achieve a fully automatic registration between HJ-1 CCD images and HJ-1 infrared images is a difficult task as it must deal with the varying illuminations and resolutions of the images, different perspectives, and the local deformations within the images. In this paper, aimed at those registration issues,a fully automatic registration approach based on contour and SIFT is proposed. The registration technique performs a pre-registration process using contour feature matching algorithm that decides the overlapping region between a reference image and an input image.Once the coarse regions are obtained,it performs a fine registration process based on SIFT detector and a local adaptive matching strategy. In the fine registration process, image blocking theory is used, which not only speeds up the features extraction and matching, but also makes the matching point pairs distributed uniformly in images, and further improves the accuracy of input image rectification.Experiments with visible images and infrared images from HJ-1A/B demonstrate the efficiency and the accuracy of the proposed technique for multisource remote sensing images registration. | NI XiLiang CAO ChunXiang DING Lin JIANG Tao ZHANG Hao JIA HuiCong LI GuangHe ZHAO Jian CHEN Wei JI Wei XU Min GAO MengXu ZHENG Sheng TIAN Rong LIU Cheng LI Sha | 2012 | Science China Earth Sciences2012,55,10: | 5
Remote sensing based shrub above-ground biomass and carbon storage mapping in Mu Us desert,China显示文摘The estimation of above-ground biomass(AGB) and carbon storage is very important for arid and semi-arid ecosystems.HJ-1A/B satellite data combined with field measurement data was used for the estimation of shrub AGB and carbon storage in the Mu Us desert,China. The correlations of shrub AGB and spectral reflectance of four bands as well as their combined vegetation indexes were respectively analyzed and stepwise regression analysis was employed to establish AGB prediction equation. The prediction equation based on ratio vegetation index(RVI)was proved to be more suitable for shrub AGB estimation in the Mu Us desert than others.Shrub AGB and carbon storage were mapped using the RVI based prediction model in final. The statistics showed the western Mu Us desert has relatively high AGB and carbon storage, and that the gross shrub carton storage in Mu Us desert reaches 16 799 200 t,which has greatly contributed to the carbon fixation in northern China. | XU Min 1,2,CAO ChunXiang 1,TONG QingXi 1,LI ZengYuan 3,ZHANG Hao 1,HE QiSheng 1,2,GAO MengXu 1,2,ZHAO Jian 1,2,ZHENG Sheng 1,2,CHEN Wei 1,2 & ZHENG LanFen 1 1State Key Laboratory of Remote Sensing Science,Jointly Sponsored by the Institute of Remote Sensing Applications of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Beijing Normal University,Beijing 100101,China 2 Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Sciences,Beijing 100049,China 3 Research Institute of Forest Resources and Information Techniques,Chinese Academy of Forestry,Beijing 10009,China | 2010 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2010,53,S1: | 5
Frequent RNF43 mutation contributes to moderate activation of Wnt signaling in colorectal signet-ring cell carcinoma显示文摘Dear Editor,Signet-ring cell carcinoma(SRCC)is a rare subtype of colorectal cancer(CRC)characterized histologically by the accumulation of mucins in the cytoplasm and displacement of nuclei to the cellular periphery, accounting for about 1%CRC(Fig.S1A)(Borger et al.,2007).Compare to common subtypes of CRC,such as adenocarcinoma(AC)and mucinous adenocarcinoma(MAC),SRCC is associated with aggressive behaviors and younger age at presentation(Kang et al.,2005;Sung et al.,2008;Nitsche et al.,2013;Hugen et al.,2014;Inamura et al.,2015).A retrospective analysis of CRC patient's data at Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center(FUSCC)also indicated a worse overall and disease-free survival of SRCC patients(Fig.S1B and S1C,Table S1). | Yaqi Li Jian Li Renjie Wang Long Zhang Guoxiang Fu Xueying Wang Yebin Wang Chuantao Fang Dandan Zhang Duo Du Xiaoji Ma Mengxue Pan Qiang Guo Xiaoya Xu Xiang Hu Yi Zhou Shaobo Mo Huijun Wang Jianjun Gao Shenglin Huang Yun Liu Sanjun Cai Guoqiang Hua Junjie Peng Fa-Xing Yu | 2020 | Protein & Cell2020,11,4: | 2
Simulation and analysis of asteroid force closure anchoring performance based on discrete element method显示文摘Asteroid exploration is significant for studying the origin of the solar system, establishing planetary defenses, and alleviating the resource crisis of the Earth.Asteroid anchoring is the basis of in-situ exploration and resource development and utilization. Therefore, the performance of asteroid force-closure anchoring is investigated using the discrete element method. The micro parameters of the simulated materials are calibrated with angle of repose and uniaxial compression experiments, based on which the regional modeling method is adopted to establish the anchoring discrete element model.Asteroid anchoring experiments are conducted on a self-developed microgravity simulation platform to verify the accuracy of the simulation model. The asteroid anchoring simulations are performed to investigate the influence of external force on the anchoring performance. The analysis of anchoring force varying with time and the interaction between the anchor and regolith particles reveals the influence mechanism of external force direction on the anchoring performance. The external force direction affects the critical anchoring force by influencing the failure of the force-closure structure. The comprehensive analysis of simulation results clarifies the variation of the critical anchoring force with the external forces. Finally,a stable anchoring region is established, beneficial for asteroid anchoring device design. | Tingzhang WANG Qiquan QUAN Hongshuai GAO Mengxue LI Dewei TANG Zongquan DENG | 2023 | Chinese Journal of Aeronautics2023,36,8: | 0
A review of physicochemical properties of dissolved organic carbon and its impact over mountain glaciers显示文摘Investigating the characteristics and transformation of water-soluble carbonaceous matter in the cryosphere regions is important for understanding biogeochemical process in the earth system.Water-soluble carbonaceous matter is a heterogeneous mixture of organic compounds that is soluble in aquatic environments.Despite its importance,we still lack systematic understanding for dissolved organic carbon(DOC)in several aspects including exact chemical composition and physical interactions with microorganisms, glacier meltwater. This review presents the chemical composition and physical properties of glacier DOC deposited through anthropogenic emission, terrestrial, and biogenic sources. We present the molecular composition of DOC and its effect over snow albedo and associated radiative forcings. Results indicate that DOC in snow/ice is made up of aromatic protein-like species, fulvic acid-like materials, and humic acid-like materials.Light-absorbing impurities in surface snow and glacier ice cause considerable albedo reduction and the associated radiative forcing is definitely positive.Water-soluble carbonaceous matter dominated the carbon transport in the high-altitude glacial area.Owing to prevailing global warming and projected increase in carbon emission, the glacial DOC is expected to release, which will have strong underlying impacts on cryosphere ecosystem. The results of this work have profound implications for better understanding the carbon cycle in high altitude cryosphere regions.A new compilation of globally distributed work is required, including large-scale measurements of glacial DOC over high-altitude cryosphere regions,to overcome and address the scientific challenges to constrain climate impacts of light-absorbing impurities related processes in Earth system and climate models. | NIU Hewen CHEN Mengxue KANG Shichang SHUKLA Tanuj QIN Huili GAO Wanni HUANG Shihai ZHANG Fu | 2024 | Journal of Mountain Science2024,21,1: | 0
