| 1 | GENETIC DIVERSITY AMONG CHINESE SIKA DEER (CERVUS NIPPON) POPULATIONS AND RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN CHINESE AND JAPANESE SIKA DEER显示文摘Sika deer (Cervus nippon) is a cervid endemic to mainland and insular Asia and endan-gered. We analyzed variation in the mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) control region for four subspecies to understand the genetic diversity, population structure and evolutionary history in China. 335 bp were se-quenced and eight haplotypes were identified based on 25 variable sites among the populations. Sika deer in China showed lower genetic diversity, sug-gesting a small effective population size due to habi-tat fragmentation, a low number of founder individu-als, or the narrow breeding program. AMOVA analy-sis indicated that there was significant genetic subdi-vision among the four populations, but no correlation between the genetic and geographic distance. Phy-logenetic analyses also revealed that Chinese sika deer may be divided into three genetic clades, but the genetic structure among Chinese populations was inconsistent with subspecies designations and pre-sent geographic distribution. | 2 | Seasonal and reproductive variation in chemical constituents of scent signals in wild giant pandas显示文摘Seasonally reproducing animals show many behavioral and physiological changes during the mating period, including increased signaling for intrasexual competition and mate attraction. We collected 102 anogenital gland secretions(AGS) from marking trees in Foping Nature Reserve, and used gas chromatography mass spectrometry to analyze these chemical composition. Of these marks, all but one were from males, confirmed with DNA analysis. We found that several chemical constituents, especially volatile compounds, were present only during the mating season and that the relative abundance of many compounds changed as a function of breeding season, whereas nonvolatile compounds were lower in the mating season. This seasonal variation in chemical composition of AGS most likely plays an important role in governing giant panda reproduction, including mate location, attraction, and male-male competition. The chemical properties of many of these putative chemosignals—such as volatility and longevity—are suggestive of these roles, and undoubtedly contribute to successful reproduction for this species with a characteristically sophisticated chemical communication system. | 3 | First evidence of prey capture and meat eating by wild Yunnan snub-nosed monkeys Rhinopithecus bieti in Yunnan,China显示文摘Most extant nonhuman primates occasionally prey on fast-moving, warm-blooded animals; however, Indriidae, Lepilemuridae,and Colobinae either scavenged for meat or did not eat meat at all. Here we report six cases of animal consumptionby the snub-nosed monkey Rhinopithecus bieti in a wild, habituated group between 2004 and 2009 in Yunnan, China. At present,only males in an all-male unit within the study group were involved in active hunting. Such a male-biased activity may be relatedto the group structure and spatial spread of R. bieti. Two females were observed eating freshly killed birds. The findings confirmedthat R. bieti engaged in scavenging and, when hunting, employed a cranio-cervical bite to kill their prey. Meat eating islikely a nutrient maximization feeding strategy in R. bieti, especially in males. A begging behavior occurred after successful preycapture. Although begging was observed, no sharing of the meat was seen. | 10 | Evaluation of individualized treatment of nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy:a multicenter,randomized,parallel-controlled study显示文摘OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the differences in the efficacy of stationary treatment and individualized treatment for patients with nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy(NPDR).METHODS:This study was a randomized,controlled,multicenter clinical trial.Participants with NPDR were randomized into the stationary treatment group or the individualized treatment group.The stationary treatment group was given the basic treatment and Qiming granules,and the individualized treatment group was given the basic treatment,Qiming granules,and individualized Chinese herbal medicines over a 12-week period.The individualized therapeutic formula was also changed over time to adjust to the changes in the clinical presentation of the patient.We conducted observations of fundus retinal exudation and hemorrhage,visual acuity,Traditional Chinese Medicine symptom scores and other indicators.RESULTS:A total of 140 participants with NPDR were randomized into the stationary treatment group or the individualized treatment group,and 132 participants completed this study.Following the 12-week treatment,significant improvements in both primary and secondary outcomes were observed in the stationary and individualized treatment groups.No remarkable difference in the primary outcomes between the two groups was observed.However,there was a significant difference in the Traditional Chinese Medicine symptom scores(18±7 vs 15±6;P<0.05).There were no severe adverse effects.CONCLUSION:Compared with stationary treatment,individualized treatment is more effective at relieving the Traditional Chinese Medicine symptoms and improving vision and fundus lesions at 12 weeks post treatment. | HUO Jian DUAN Junguo LIU Lisha ZHANG Fuwen ZHU Keyu SUI Jiaqing JIAN Wenyuan | 2022 | Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2022,42,1: | 1 |

| 12 | Luminescent and thermometric properties of dual emitting Eu^(2+)/Sm^(3+) co-doped Sr_(4)La(PO_(4))_(3)O phosphor based on energy transfer显示文摘Eu^(2+)/Sm^(3+)co-doped dual-emitting Sr_(4)La(PO_(4))_(3)O phosphors were synthesized through a convenient high temperature solid state reaction in reductive atmosphere.The structure,luminescence,energy transfer and temperature-dependent luminescence properties of Eu^(2+)/Sm^(3+)co-doped Sr_(4)La(PO_(4))_(3)O phosphors were researched and analyzed in detail.The blue emission of Eu^(2+)and the red emission of Sm^(3+)can work together as FIR signals.Based on the different response characteristics of these two ion emissions to temperature,Sr_(4)La(PO_(4))_(3)O:Eu^(2+)/Sm^(^(3+))phosphor achieves the relative sensitivity of0.48384%/K and a wide range of temperature measurements from room temperature to 573 K.The results reveal that the Sr_(4)La(PO_(4))_(3)O:Eu^(2+)/Sm^(3+)phosphor has application prospect in the field of high temperature optical thermometry.The energy transfer mechanism is proved to be the dipole-dipole interaction between Eu^(2+)and Sm^(3+)ions. | Fuwen Liu Degang Deng Ming Wu Bowen Chen Liuyan Zhou Shiqing Xu | 2021 | Journal of Rare Earths2021,39,3: | 1 |
| 13 | Comparative analysis reveals epigenomic evolution related to species traits and genomic imprinting in mammals显示文摘DNA methylation is an epigenetic modification that plays a crucial role in various regulatory processes,including gene expression regulation,transposable element repression,and genomic imprinting.However,most studies on DNA methylation have been conducted in humans and other model species,whereas the dynamics of DNA methylation across mammals remain poorly explored,limiting our understanding of epigenomic evolution in mammals and the evolutionary impacts of conserved and lineage-specific DNA methylation.Here,we generated and gathered comparative epigenomic data from 13 mammalian species,including two marsupial species,to demonstrate that DNA methylation plays critical roles in several aspects of gene evolution and species trait evolution.We found that the species-specific DNA methylation of promoters and noncoding elements correlates with species-specific traits such as body patterning,indicating that DNA methylation might help establish or maintain interspecies differences in gene regulation that shape phenotypes.For a broader view,we investigated the evolutionary histories of 88 known imprinting control regions across mammals to identify their evolutionary origins.By analyzing the features of known and newly identified potential imprints in all studied mammals,we found that genomic imprinting may function in embryonic development through the binding of specific transcription factors.Our findings show that DNA methylation and the complex interaction between the genome and epigenome have a significant impact on mammalian evolution,suggesting that evolutionary epigenomics should be incorporated to develop a unified evolutionary theory. | Yisi Hu Shenli Yuan Xin Du Jiang Liu Wenliang Zhou Fuwen Wei | 2023 | The Innovation2023,4,3: | 0 |
