1Device-associated infection rates, mortality, length of stay and bacterial resistance in intensive care units in Ecuador: International Nosocomial Infection Control Consortium's findings显示文摘AIM To report the results of the International Nosocomial Infection Control Consortium(INICC) study conducted in Quito, Ecuador.METHODS A device-associated healthcare-acquired infection(DAHAI) prospective surveillance study conducted from October 2013 to January 2015 in 2 adult intensive care units(ICUs) from 2 hospitals using the United States Centers for Disease Control/National Healthcare Safety Network(CDC/NHSN) definitions and INICC methods. RESULTS We followed 776 ICU patients for 4818 bed-days. The central line-associated bloodstream infection(CLABSI) rate was 6.5 per 1000 central line(CL)-days, the ventilator-associated pneumonia(VAP) rate was 44.3 per 1000 mechanical ventilator(MV)-days, and the catheterassociated urinary tract infection(CAUTI) rate was 5.7 per 1000 urinary catheter(UC)-days. CLABSI and CAUTI rates in our ICUs were similar to INICC rates [4.9(CLABSI) and 5.3(CAUTI)] and higher than NHSN rates [0.8(CLABSI) and 1.3(CAUTI)]- although device use ratios for CL and UC were higher than INICC and CDC/NSHN's ratios. By contrast, despite the VAP rate was higher than INICC(16.5) and NHSN's rates(1.1), MV DUR was lower in our ICUs. Resistance of A. baumannii to imipenem and meropenem was 75.0%, and of Pseudomonas aeruginosa to ciprofloxacin and piperacillin-tazobactam was higher than 72.7%, all them higher than CDC/NHSN rates. Excess length of stay was 7.4 d for patients with CLABSI, 4.8 for patients with VAP and 9.2 for patients CAUTI. Excess crude mortality in ICUs was 30.9% for CLABSI, 14.5% for VAP and 17.6% for CAUTI. 7Pro-atherosclerotic markers and cardiovascular risk factors one year after liver transplantation显示文摘AIM:To investigate pro-atherosclerotic markers(endothelial dysfunction and inflammation)in patients one year after liver transplantation.METHODS:Forty-four consecutive liver transplant(LT)outpatients who were admitted between August2009 and July 2010,were followed-up by for 1 year,exhibited no evidences of infection or rejection,all of them underwent tacrolimus-based immunosuppressive regimens were consecutively enrolled.Inflammatory cytokines(TNFα,IFNγ,IL-8,and IL-10),endothelial biomarkers(sVCAM-1,sICAM-1,MPO,adiponectin,PAI-1,SAP,SAA,E-selectin,and MMP-9),high sensitive C-reactive protein,and Framingham risk score(FRS)were assessed.The anthropometric data,aminotransferases,metabolic syndrome features,glucose and lipid profiles,and insulin resistance data were also collected.The LT recipients were compared to 22 biopsy-proven non-alcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH)patients and 20healthy controls(non-obese,non-diabetics,and nondyslipidemic).RESULTS:The LT recipients had significantly younger ages and lower body mass indices,aminotransferases,fasting glucose and insulin levels,glucose homeostasis model and metabolic syndrome features than the NASH patients.Classic cardiovascular risk markers,such as Hs-CRP and FRS[2.0(1.0-8.75)],were lower in the LT patients compared to those observed in the NASH patients(P=0.009).In contrast,the LT recipients and NASH patients had similar inflammatory and endothelial serum markers compared to the controls(pg/mL):lower IL-10 levels(32.3 and 32.3 vs 62.5,respectively,P=0.019)and higher IFNγ(626.1 and 411.9 vs 67.9,respectively,P<0.001),E-selectin(48.5 and 90.03vs 35.7,respectively,P<0.001),sVCAM-1(1820.6and 1692.4 vs 1167.2,respectively,P<0.001),and sICAM-1(230.3 and 259.7 vs 152.9,respectively,P=0.015)levels.CONCLUSION:Non-obese LT recipients have similar pro-atherosclerotic serum profiles after a short 1-year follow-up period compared to NASH patients,suggesting a high risk of atherosclerosis in this population.Mario Reis Alvares-da-Silva Claudia Pinto Marques Souza de Oliveira José Tadeu Stefano Hermes V Barbeiro Denise Barbeiro Francisco G Soriano Alberto Queiroz Farias Flair José Carrilho Luiz Augusto Carneiro D’Albuquerque 2014World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,26:1

14Turbo-taxonomy to assemble a megadiverse lichen genus:seventy new species of Cora(Basidiomycota:Agaricales:Hygrophoraceae),honouring David Leslie Hawksworth’s seventieth birthday显示文摘Following a large-scale phylogenetic study of the lichenized genus Cora(Basidiomycota:Agaricales:Hygrophoraceae),we formally describe 70 new species,honouring the seventieth birthday of David Leslie Hawksworth,one of the preeminent figures in mycology and lichenology in the past 50 years.Based on an updated phylogeny using the ITS fungal barcoding locus,we now recognize 189 taxa in a genus that until recently was considered to represent a single species;including this contribution,92 of these are formally recognized,including five taxa based on historical names or collections that have not been sequenced.Species of Cora can be recognized by a combination of morphological(size,colour,lobe configuration,surface hairs,hymenophore size and shape),anatomical(thallus thickness,cortex structure,photobiont type,hyphal papillae),and ecogeographical features(substrate,habitat,distribution),and a keytable allowing the identification of all accepted taxa is provided.The new species 15Spectral reflectance indices as proxies for yield potential and heat stress tolerance in spring wheat: heritability estimates and marker-trait associations显示文摘The application of spectral reflectance indices(SRIs) as proxies to screen for yield potential(YP) and heat stress(HS) is emerging in crop breeding programs.Thus, a comparison of SRIs and their associations with grain yield(GY) under YP and HS conditions is important.In this study, we assessed the usefulness of 27 SRIs for indirect selection for agronomic traits by evaluating an elite spring wheat association mapping initiative(WAMI) population comprising 287 elite lines under YP and HS conditions.Genetic and phenotypic analysis identified 11 and 9 SRIs in different developmental stages as efficient indirect selection indices for yield in YP and HS conditions,respectively.We identified enhanced vegetation index(EVI) as the common SRI associated with GY under YP at booting, heading and late heading stages, whereas photochemical reflectance index(PRI) and normalized difference vegetation index(NDVI) were the common SRIs under booting and heading stages in HS.Genomewide association study(GWAS) using 18704 single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs) from Illumina i Select90 K identified 280 and 43 marker-trait associations for efficient SRIs at different developmental stages under YP and HS, respectively.Common genomic regions for multiple SRIs were identified in 14 regions in 9 chromosomes: 1 B(60–62 cM), 3 A(15, 85–90, 101–105 cM), 3 B(132–134 cM), 4 A(47–51 cM), 4 B(71–75 cM), 5 A(43–49, 56–60, 89–93 cM), 5 B(124–125 cM),6 A(80–85 cM), and 6 B(57–59, 71 cM).Among them,SNPs in chromosome 5 A(89–93 cM) and 6 A(80–85 cM)were co-located for yield and yield related traits.Overall,this study highlights the utility of SRIs as proxies for GY under YP and HS.High heritability estimates and identification of marker-trait associations indicate that SRIs are useful tools for understanding the genetic basis of agronomic and physiological traits.Caiyun LIU Francisco PINTO CMariano COSSANI Sivakumar SUKUMARAN Matthew PREYNOLDS 2019Frontiers of Agricultural Science and Engineering2019,6,3:0
16Advances in cellular technology in the hematology field: What have we learned so far?显示文摘Despite the advances in the hematology field, blood transfusion-related iatrogenesis is still a major issue to be considered during such procedures due to blood antigenic incompatibility. This places pluripotent stem cells as a possible ally in the production of more suitable blood products. The present review article aims to provide a comprehensive summary of the state-of-theart concerning the differentiation of both embryonic stem cells and induced pluripotent stem cells to hematopoietic cell lines. 17Experimental study on the wear evolution of different PVD coated tools under milling operations of LDX2101 duplex stainless steel显示文摘Duplex stainless steels are being used on applications that require,especially,high corrosion resistance and overall good mechanical properties,such as the naval and oil-gas exploration industry.The components employed in these industries are usually obtained by machining,however,these alloys have low machinability when compared to conventional stainless steels.In this work,a study of the wear developed when milling duplex stainless-steel,LDX 2101,is going to be presented and evaluated,employing four types of milling tools with different geometries and coatings,while studying the influence of feed rate and cutting length in the wear of these tools.Tools used have been provided with two and four flutes,as well as three different coatings,namely:TiAlN,TiAlSiN and AlCrN.The cutting behavior of these tools was analyzed;data relative to the cutting forces developed during the process were obtained;and roughness measurements of the machined surfaces were executed.The tools were then submitted to scanning electron microscope(SEM)analysis,enabling the identification of the wear mechanisms that tools were subjected to when machining this material,furthermore,the early stages of these mechanisms were also identified.All this work was done with the goal of relating the machining parameters and cutting force values obtained,identifying,and discussing the wear patterns that were observed in the coating and tools after the milling tests,providing further information on the machining of these alloys.Vitor F.C.Sousa Francisco J.G.Silva Ricardo Alexandre Jose S.Fecheira Gustavo Pinto Andresa Baptista 2023Advances in Manufacturing2023,11,1:0

19Areas with evidence of equity and their progress on mortality from tuberculosis in an endemic municipality of southeast Brazil显示文摘Background:In Brazil,people still fall ill and die from tuberculosis(TB),and this can be explained by the significant impasse in the equity of distribution of therapeutic resources to the population as a whole.The aim was to identify geographical areas which have shown progress in terms of equity(of income,schooling and urban occupancy)and test its effect on mortality from TB in a municipality of southeast Brazil.Methods:It is an ecological study considering TB as the basic cause for deaths registered between 2006 and 2013 on the Mortality Information System and other variables obtained through the Demographic Census of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics(2010).The geographical area for analysis comprised the areas of coverage of the health services.Social indicators have been constructed through the Principal Component Analysis(PCA).The cases were geocoded and the annual mortality rate from TB was calculated with smoothing using the local empirical Bayesian method.Multiple linear regression was then performed.There was confirmation of the existence of spatial dependence of residue through the application of the Global Moran I test,and application of the Models with Global Spatial Effects,to identify the best standard of spatial regression.Results:The mortality rates ranged from 0.00 to 2.8 deaths per 100,000 people,per year.In the PCA,three indicators were constructed,and designated as indicators of income,social inequality,and social equity.In multiple linear regression,the indicator of social equity was statistically significant(P<0.0001)but had a negative association,an adjusted R^(2)of 28.36%and with spatial dependence(Moran I=0.21,P=0.003455).The best model to deal with existing spatial dependence was the Spatial Lag Model.Conclusions:The better social conditions have shown progress in reducing mortality from TB,thereby reinforcing the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals.In addition,cartography was also applied,which can be replicated in other scenarios throughout the world,using a scope distinct from that of works traditionally produced in that it places the emphasis on social equity.Mellina YAMAMURA Marcelino SANTOS NETO Francisco CHIARAVALLOTI NETO Luiz Henrique ARROYO Antonio Carlos Vieira RAMOS Ana Angelica Rego de QUEIROZ Aylana de Souza BELCHIOR Danielle Talita dos SANTOS Juliane de Almeida CRISPIM Ione Carvalho PINTO Severina Alice da Costa UCHOA Regina Celia FIORATI Ricardo Alexandre ARCENCIO 2017Infectious Diseases of Poverty2017,6,1:0
20Leptin immune programming: the assembly key between birth weight and future disease?显示文摘The developmental origins for health and disease concept supports that early life environment can affect future health balance and disease.Findings suggest that birthweight(BW)can be a useful indicator of processes that influence long-term health.In fact,there is increasing evidence associating BW with later-life infections,allergy,autoimmune and cancer diseases.To date,there is no common mechanism to explain BW’s direct influence on disease expression during the life cycle.On the other hand,leptin,a circulating hormone,has been pointed as relevant in many disease pathways,including immunological and oncological,and leptin levels seem to vary directly with BW.We suggest that BW could affect early immune programming through variant early-life leptin hormone levels.It is possible that higher leptin levels in higher BW and lower leptin levels in low BW relate to a shift in Th1 and Th2 responses,accounting for different incidences of infections,allergy,autoimmune and cancers,and raising an integrative hypothesis for the effect of BW on future disease.We hope that our hypothesis concerning the possible role of early life leptin levels on immune programming and future disease can be confirmed by experimental data.Francisco Alves de Sousa Afonso Castro Ângela Reis Rego Ana Nóbrega Pinto Miguel Bebiano Coutinho Luís Meireles 2022Medical Theory and Hypothesis2022,5,4:0
