1Modulatory effect of pineapple peel extract on lipid peroxidation,catalase activity and hepatic biomarker levels in blood plasma of alcoholinduced oxidative stressed rats显示文摘Objective:To investigate the ability of the methanolic extract of pineapple peel to modulate alcohol-induced lipid peroxidation,changes in catalase activities and hepatic biochemical marker levels in blood plasma.Methods:Oxidative stress was induced by oral administration of ethanol(20%w/v) at a dosage of 5 niL/kg bw in rats.After 28 days of treatment,the rats were fasted overnight and sacrificed by cervical dislocation.Blood was collected with a 2 mL syringe by cardiac puncture and was centrifuged at 3000 rpm for 10 min.The plasma was analyzed to evaluate malondialdehyde(MDA),catalase activity,aspartate aminotransferase(AST),alkaline phosphatase(ALP) and alanine aminotransferase(ALT) concentrations.Results:Administration of alcohol caused a drastic increase(87.74%) in MDA level compared with the control.Pineapple peel extract significantly reduced the MDA level by 60.16%at 2.S mL/kg bw.Rats fed alcohol only had the highest catalase activity,treatment with pineapple peel extract at 2.5 mL/kg bw however, reduced the activity.Increased AST,ALP and ALT activities were observed in rats fed alcohol only respectively,treatment with pineapple peel extract drastically reduced their activities. 3Changes in Soil Organic Carbon Dynamics in a Native C4 Plant-Dominated Tidal Marsh Following Spartina alterniflora Invasion显示文摘Invasion of an exotic C_4 plant Spartina alterniflora has been shown to increase soil organic carbon(SOC) concentrations in native C_3 plant-dominated coastal wetlands of China. However, little is known about the effects of S. alterniflora invasion on SOC concentrations and fractions in tidal marshes dominated by native C_4 plants. In this study, a field experiment was conducted in a tidal marsh dominated by the native C_4 plant Cyperus malaccensis in the Minjiang River estuary, China. Concentrations of SOC and liable SOC fractions, dissolved organic carbon(DOC), microbial biomass carbon(MBC), and easily oxidizable carbon(EOC),were measured in the top 50-cm soils of the C. malaccensis community, as well as those of three S. alterniflora communities with an invasion duration of 0–4 years(SA-4), 4–8 years(SA-8), and 8–12 years(SA-12), respectively. Results showed that both SOC stocks in the 50-cm soils and mean SOC concentrations in the surface soils(0–10 cm) of the C. malaccensis community increased with the duration of S. alterniflora invasion, whereas SOC concentrations in the 10–50-cm soils decreased slightly during the initial period of S. alterniflora invasion, before increasing again. The pattern of changes in labile SOC fractions(DOC, MBC, and EOC) with invasion duration was generally similar to that of SOC, while the ratios of labile SOC fractions to total SOC(DOC:SOC, MBC:SOC, and EOC:SOC) decreased significantly with the duration of S. alterniflora invasion. The findings of this study suggest that invasion of the exotic C_4 plant S. alterniflora into a marsh dominated by the native C_4 plant C. malaccensis would enhance SOC sequestration owing to the greater amount of biomass and lower proportion of labile SOC fractions present in the S. alterniflora communities.jin baoshi lai derrick yuk fo gao dengzhou tong chuan zeng congsheng 2017Pedosphere2017,27,5:7

6Effect of anti-crossings with cladding resonances on ultrafast nonlinear dynamics in gas-filled photonic crystal fibers显示文摘Spectral anti-crossings between the fundamental guided mode and core-wall resonances alter the dispersion in hollow-core anti-resonant-reflection photonic crystal fibers. Here we study the effect of this dispersion change on the nonlinear propagation and dynamics of ultrashort pulses. We find that it causes emission of narrow spectral peaks through a combination of four-wave mixing and dispersive wave emission. We further investigate the influence of the anti-crossings on nonlinear pulse propagation and show that their impact can be minimized by adjusting the core-wall thickness in such a way that the anti-crossings lie spectrally distant from the pump wavelength.Fo TANI F. 9Antioxidant and hepatoprotective activities of Dicoma anomala Sond.aqueous root extract against carbon tetrachloride-induced liver damage in Wistar rats显示文摘OBJECTIVE:To evaluates the antioxidant and hepatoprotective potentials of Dicoma anomala Sond.(Asteraceae) on body weight,feed and water intake,biochemical parameters and organ histology.METHODS:Various concentrations(1.56-25 μg/m L)were used in the in vitro assays 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl hydrazyl(DPPH,superoxide anion,hydroxyl radicals,etc.).The effects of treatment with 125,250 and 250 mg/m L Dicoma anomala aqueous roots extract(DARE) was investigated in vivo in the CCl4-induced hepatotoxic rats during the 15 days study.RESULTS:Water extract exhibited the best activity(IC50:15.20 ± 0.03,11.70 ± 0.10,and 0.84 ± 0.05 μg/m L) in vitro in DPPH,hydroxyl and superoxide anion radicals,respectively,when compared with standards.Pre-treatment and treatment with different concentrations of DARE significantly(P < 0.05)attenuated the elevated serum activities of aspartate transaminase,alanine transaminase levels while increasing the activities of superoxide dismutase,catalase and glutathione peroxidase.The histopathological evaluations revealed extensive liver damage characterized by severe vacuolar and cytoplasmic degeneration,hepatic necrosis,and cellular infilteration in pre-treated groups while in the treated groups;such liver damages were not observed most especially at 500 mg/kg dose.CONCLUSION:The results proved the hepatoprotective potential of DARE against CCl4-induced oxidative stress.Moreover,histopathological examinations revealed better therapeutic advantage of DARE than prophylactic use.FO Balogun AOT Ashafa 2016Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2016,36,4:2
