| 1 | Dysentery caused by Balantidium coliin a patient with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma from Turkey显示文摘Balantidium coli is the only parasitic ciliate of man. It is a flattened oval organism covered with cilia, and a gullet at the anterior end. It is infrequently pathogenic for man,although epidemic buds in tropical zones have been described. The infection fundamentally affects the colon and causes variable clinic pictures, from asymptomatic to serious dysenteric forms. We present a case of parasitologically diagnosed as causes of diarrhea in a patient with non Hodgkin's lymphoma from Turkey.In order to find out the causative etiologic agent of diarrhea,stool samples were examined by native,lugol and flotation methods and we detected moving trophozoites, which were approximately 60μm long and 35μm wide.These bodies were diagnosed as Balantidium coli This case underlines that Balantidium coli should also be considered as a possible pathogen in immunocompromised patients with diarrhea. | Süleyman Yazar Fevzi Altuntas Izzet Sahin Metin Atambay | 2004 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2004，10，3： | 4 |
| 2 | Delaying surgery after neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy improves prognosis of rectal cancer显示文摘AIM To investigate the prognostic effect of a delayed interval between neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy(CRT) and surgery in locally advanced rectal cancer.METHODS We evaluated 87 patients with locally advanced mid-or distal rectal cancer undergoing total mesorectal excision following an interval period after neoadjuvant CRT at ?i?li Hamidiye Etfal Training and Research Hospital,Istanbul between January 2009 and January 2014.Patients were divided into two groups according to the intervalbefore surgery: < 8 wk(group Ⅰ) and ≥ 8 wk(group Ⅱ).Data related to patients,cancer characteristics and pathological examination were collected and analyzed.RESULTS When the distribution of timing between group Ⅰ(n = 45) and group Ⅱ(n = 42) was viewed,comparison of interval periods(median ± SD) of groups showed a significant difference of as 5 ± 1.28 wk in group Ⅰ and 10.1 ± 2.2 wk in group Ⅱ(P < 0.001).The median follow-up period for all patients was 34.5(9.9-81) mo.group Ⅱ had significantly higher rates of pathological complete response(p CR) than group Ⅰ had(19% vs 8.9%,P = 0.002).Rate of tumor regression grade(TRG) poor response was 44.4% in group Ⅰ and 9.5% in group Ⅱ(P < 0.002).A poor pathological response was associated with worse disease-free survival(P = 0.009).The interval time did not show any association with local recurrence(P = 0.79).CONCLUSION Delaying the neoadjuvant CRT-surgery interval may provide nodal down-staging,improve p CR rate,and decrease the rate of TRG poor response. | Mehmet Mihmanli Esin Kabul Gürbulak Ismail Ethem Akgün Mustafa Fevzi Celayir Pinar Yazici Deniz Tuncel Tuba Tülin Bek Ayhan Oz Sinan Omeroglu | 2016 | World Journal of Gastrointestinal Oncology2016，8，9： | 3 |

| 4 | Acute abdomen caused by nontraumatic hemoperitoneum is the first manifestation of gastric low grade stromal tumor显示文摘BACKGROUND:Gastrointestinal stromal tumors(GISTs) are the most common mesenchymal tumors of the gastrointestinal tract in adults.We treated surgically a man with acute abdomen caused by non-traumatic hemoperitoneum and diagnosed by low grade gastric GIST.METHODS:A 51-year-old Caucasian man came to the hospital for abdominal pain for 3 hours.He had no history of abdominal trauma.On admission,he was conscious and alert,and he had hypotension(80/50 mmHg) and moderate tachycardia.Abdominal ultrasonography showed the presence of free peritoneal fluid.Abdominal magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) showed diffuse intraabdominal hemorrhage and solid mass lesion at the greater curvature of the stomach.At an emergency laparotomy,a pedunculated,fragile mass of 5x6 cm originating from the posterior wall of the stomach was seen.The tumor was resected.Histopathologically a gastrointestinal stromal tumor was detected.RESULTS:The patient had an uneventful postoperative course and was discharged on the sixth postoperative day.Follow-up showed no recurrence of the tumor 8 months after surgery.CONCLUSION:Intraabdominal bleeding is a rare presentation of gastrointestinal stromal tumors.The diagnosis of the tumor should be based on whether sudden abdominal pain occurs in patients with an intraabdominal mass. | Savas Yakan Enver Ilhan Fevzi Cengiz Hülya Mollamehmetoglu Kemal Emre Telciler | 2012 | World Journal of Emergency Medicine2012，3，3： | 2 |

| 10 | A novel model of retinopathy of prematurity in normobaric hyperoxic conditions显示文摘AIM:To examine changes in retinal vasculature after treatment with different oxygen concentrations from common retinopathy of prematurity(ROP) models and to determine a novel and practical ROP model.METHODS:A sample of 14 newborn Sprague-Dawley rats was used.The study group(n=7) was exposed to95%oxygen for 4h per day followed by normoxic laboratory conditions for 20 h.This cycle was repeated for 14 d.The control group(n=7) was subjected to normobaric normoxic conditions.On postnatal day 14(P14),the two groups were placed in room air for 7d.On P21,the two groups were examined using indirect ophthalmoscopy.All eyes were enucleated for immunofluorescence(IF) staining of the vasculature of retinas and analysis of vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF),hypoxia inducible factor-1 alpha(HIF-1α),placental growth factor(PLGF) in vitreous humor,and then the rats were sacrificed by decapitation.All procedures were repeated using another litter of 14 pups.RESULTS:In the study group and under normobaric hyperoxic conditions,retinal neovascularization and peripheral avascular retina were determined in 85%of the rats through indirect ophthalmoscopic examination.Also IF staining of retina of the study group showed retarded peripheral vascular growth.The difference between the two groups for VEGF,HIF-1α and PLGF concentrations of vitreous humor was statistically significant(P=0.003,0.007,0.027 respectively).CONCLUSION:Fluctuating oxygen concentrations are primarily responsible for retinal neovascularization.Our new ROP model is practical and applicable for all retinal neovascularization studies,considering the laboratory procedures. | Taner Ozgurtas Sercan Tekin Fatih Yesildal Umut Karaca Fevzi Nuri Aydin Muhammed Talha Ugurlu Mehmet Ozler Hakan Durukan | 2016 | International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2016，9，9： | 1 |
