Discovery and Significance of Quaternary Glacial Vestiges in the Hexigten Area of the Southern Da Hinggan Mountains, Inner Mongolia显示文摘The question whether there have been Quaternary glaciations in the Da Hinggan area has puzzled glacial geologists for many years because no sufficient glacial evidence has been found in this area. The study of Quaternary glaciers in the Da Hinggan area is also a key issue of the glaciology in China because of the special location of this area. In the past two years, a large number of complete and typical glacial vestiges have been found in Hexigten in the southern Da Hinggan Mountains, such as fossil cirque groups, horns, knife-edge crests, terminal moraines, glacial stepped stones. These landforms are located at a watershed, which are thus impossible to be formed due to tectonic processes, water or weathering, but can only be formed by glaciation. The calculated flat indexes of the fossil cirques in the Hexigten are 1.7?4.5, 4?5 and 1.3?5, which are within the range of 1.7?5 that is the flat index of real cirques. The typical and complete moraines have also been found in this area. All these glacial vestiges prove that the Quaternary glaciers did exist in the Da Hinggan Mountains of eastern China. Thus, it is of important scientific significance for the research on Chinese, even the global climatic and environmental evolution since the Quaternary.SUN Hongyan TIAN Mingzhong WU Fadong ZHANG Jianping 2005Acta Geologica Sinica(English Edition)2005,79,4:7
Responses of greenhouse gas fluxes to experimental warming in wheat season under conventional tillage and no-tillage fields显示文摘Understanding the effects of warming on greenhouse gas(GHG, such as N_2O, CH_4 and CO_2 )feedbacks to climate change represents the major environmental issue. However, little information is available on how warming effects on GHG fluxes in farmland of North China Plain(NCP). An infrared warming simulation experiment was used to assess the responses of N_2O, CH_4 and CO_2 to warming in wheat season of 2012–2014 from conventional tillage(CT) and no-tillage(NT) systems. The results showed that warming increased cumulative N_2O emission by 7.7% in CT but decreased it by 9.7% in NT fields(p < 0.05). Cumulative CH_4 uptake and CO_2 emission were increased by 28.7%–51.7% and 6.3%–15.9% in both two tillage systems, respectively(p < 0.05). The stepwise regressions relationship between GHG fluxes and soil temperature and soil moisture indicated that the supply soil moisture due to irrigation and precipitation would enhance the positive warming effects on GHG fluxes in two wheat seasons. However, in 2013, the long-term drought stress due to infrared warming and less precipitation decreased N_2O and CO_2 emission in warmed treatments. In contrast, warming during this time increased CH_4 emission from deep soil depth. Across two years wheat seasons, warming significantly decreased by 30.3% and 63.9% sustained-flux global warming potential(SGWP) of N_2O and CH_4 expressed as CO_2 equivalent in CT and NT fields, respectively. However, increase in soil CO_2 emission indicated that future warming projection might provide positive feedback between soil C release and global warming in NCP.Chun Tu Fadong Li 2017Journal of Environmental Sciences2017,29,4:6
Geochemistry and zircon U-Pb geochronology of the rhyolitic tuff on Port Island, Hong Kong: Implications for early Cretaceous tectonic setting显示文摘Early Cretaceous rhyolitic tuffs, widely distributed on Port Island, provide insights into the volcanism and tectonic setting of Hong Kong.In this paper we present petrological, geochronological and geochemical data of the rhyolitic tuff to constrain the diagenesis age and petrogenesis of the rocks, tectonic setting and early Cretaceous volcanism of Hong Kong. The first geochronological data show that the zircons in the volcanic rocks have U-Pb age of 141.1-139.5 Ma,which reveals that the rhyolitic tuff on Port Island was formed in the early Cretaceous(K_1).Geochemically,these acid rocks, which are enriched in large ion lithophile elements(LILEs) and light rare earth elements(LREEs),and depleted in high field strength elements(HFSEs),belong to the high K calc-alkaline to shoshonite series with strongly-peraluminous characteristic. The geochemical analyses suggest that the volcanic rocks were derived from deep melting in the continental crust caused by basaltic magma underplating.Based on the geochemical analysis and previous studies,we concluded that the rhyolitic tuffs on Port Island were formed in a backarc extension setting in response to the subduction of the Paleo-Pacific Plate beneath the Eurasian Plate.Longlong Zhao Lulin Wang Mingzhong Tian Fadong Wu 2017Geoscience Frontiers2017,8,3:4

Paleocurrent Analysis on the Basal Conglomerate of the Model Changzhougou Formation in Qian'an显示文摘The paleoflow direction of the basal conglomerate of the Changzhougou formation is obtained by the paleocurrent analysis of certain sedimentary structures, and the ancient sedimentary environment of the Qian'an Region is determined by observing the psephicity and gradation of gravel in conglomerate. The results show that the paleoflow direction is from northwest to southwest, and the paleocurrent data manifest a single-peak style in a rose diagram. The average paleoflow direction in the Qian'an region is 265°. The basal conglomerate is of littoral facies, and the sediments of conglomerates are mainly sourced from Shanhaiguan.XIAO Junwen WU Fadong CHEN Yongjin 2016Wuhan University Journal of Natural Sciences2016,21,2:3

Comparative Study of Cotton Plant Height Difference in the Arid Areas Based on LandSat8 OLI Data显示文摘With the cotton field of Regiment 105,Division 6 of Production and Construction Corps of Xinjiang as the object of study, this paper uses remote sensing, geographic information system technology and statistical analysis software to analyze the correlation between 18 sets of spectral data and cotton plant height, with a view to exploring the characteristics of difference in image spectrum parameters and related indices under different cotton plant height. The results show that the correlation between spectral reflectance and plant height reaches a highly significant level in blue light, green light, red light and near infrared bands, and NDVI and LAI vegetation indices established using red light and near infrared bands are significantly and positively correlated with plant height.Peng GUO Fadong WU Jianguo DAI 2016Asian Agricultural Research2016,8,11:2
Cenozoic Calcareous Nannofossil Biostratigraphy of Sediments from Lingfeng Well in East China Sea显示文摘A biostratigraphic study of calcareous nannofossils of sediments from Lingfeng No.1 well in the East China Sea was carried out to provide more detailed nannofossil data and a stratigraphic correlation among offshore wells located in the East China Sea.14 Paleocene to Pleistocene calcareous nannofossil zones were recognized based on a detailed examination. According to these nannofossil data, the Paleocene/Eocene and Pliocene/Pleistocene boundaries, as well as the Miocene base were determined.Oligocene NP23 and Miocene NN1 zones are firstly recognized by this study. The existence of Miocene NN1 at this well suggests that the Miocene transgression began in the Early Miocene in this area. The records of NP23 indicate that the marine Oligocene sediments exist in the series of Lingfeng wells, but probably as very thin layers.Su Xin Wu Fadong Center of Marine Geosciences, China University of Geosciences, Beijing 100083, China Zhou Pin Liu Jinshui Shanghai Offshore Petroleum Planning and Designing Institute, Shanghai 200093, China 2000Journal of Earth Science2000,19,3:2
Effect of Land Use on Soil Properties in Debris Flow Bottomland:A Case Study at Xiaojiang Basin, Yunnan显示文摘In order to understand the effect of different land use on soil physics and nutrients properties of the debris flow bottomland, a case study at Daqing gully (in Xiaojiang Basin, Yunnan) was conducted in 2004. Soil samples were taken at depth of 0-10,10-20,20-40,40-60,60-80 cm under three land use patterns crop bottomland(CL), forest bottomland(FL), and barren bottomland(BL). The results showed that the developing bottomland to CL promoted soil toaccumulate total phosphorus (TP) and available phosphorus (AP), pH value transferred from neutral to alkalescency, and organic matter decreased significantly. Furthermore, the contents of total nitrogen (TN) and available nitrogen (AN) in CL were lower than that of FL and BL because the growth of crops consumed more nutrients in soil. The results also showed that the contents of TP, AP and available potassium (AK) in soil were positively correlated with soil particle.ZHANG Qiuying LI Fadong LIU Mengy SONG Xianfang OU Guoqiang 2006Wuhan University Journal of Natural Sciences2006,11,4:2
Effects of drip irrigation on components of water cycle in arid inland areas: A case study of Manas river basin in northwestern China显示文摘Compared to either drip irrigation or mulching with plastic film, the two methods together can reduce water requirements of crops grown in arid areas by more than 30%.Such a combination deployed on a large scale(1)reduced the loss of soil water by 31.8%compared to that from drip irrigation alone;(2)narrowed the range of annual evapotranspiration from 1582.4-1780.3 mm,which is average for the basin,to 222.2-294.8 mm;and(3)increased the overall humidity in the central plain of the basin. However, the surrounding regions in which drip irrigation is not combined with mulching are getting more arid;thus,as a result of the water-saving technology, both oases and the desertification of the river basin are increasing at the same time. The results of the study further the understanding of the effects of drip irrigation combined with mulching on water cycles in the basin of the Manas river and suggest ways to protect the ecology and the environment of the basin.Pengfei Li Guang Yang Xinlin He Fadong Li Ke Yan Zelin Wang 2019International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2019,12,1:2
Yanshan, Gaoshan-Two Active Volcanoes of the Volcanic Cluster in Arshan, Inner Mongolia显示文摘The volcanic cluster in Arshan, Inner Mongolia, is located in the west of the middle section of the Da Hinggan Mountains. There are more than forty Cenozoic volcanoes among which the Yanshan Volcano and Gaoshan Volcano are the active ones in broad sense and basaltic central vents. Arshan is a newly found volcanic active region in the Chinese continent. The volcanoes are perfectly preserved and composed of cinder cones, pyroclastic sheets and lava flows. Their cones are grand and the Gaoshan cone is about 362m high, and the depth of the Yanshan crater is about 140m. The pyroclastic sheet is mainly made up of scoria, and the distribution area of scoria with thickness more than 1m is about 27km2. There are two Carbonized_wood sites in the pyroclastic sheet and the 14 C datings indicate ages of 1990±100a B.P and 1900±70a B.P, which are rectified by dendrodating. Basaltic lava flows are uncovered, and they change from pahoehoe in the early stage to aa in the later stage. There are lots of perfect fumarolic cones, fumarolic dishes and lava tumulus in the front zones. The spread of lava flow is controlled by the local topography and its main body flowed northwestwards covering the Holocene rivers and swamp deposits and blocked up the Halahahe river and its branches to create six lava_dam lakes. For these distinguishing features, Arshan volcanic cluster could be called another natural “Volcano Museum'.Bai Zhida Tian Mingzhong Wu Fadong Xu Debing Li Tuanjie 2005Earthquake Research in China2005,19,4:1

Late Jurassic to Early Cretaceous volcanism of Hong Kong: Insights from the Ping Chau Formation显示文摘The vast expanse of Mesozoic igneous rocks in Hong Kong contain important geological records of late Mesozoic magmatic events and tectonic processes from the coastal region of Southeast China. Of these, the Ping Chau Formation in the northwestern New Territories is the youngest known stratum. We perform a detailed study of the volcanic rocks of the Ping Chau Formation utilizing zircon U-Pb dating, with major and trace elements geochemistry. LA-ICP-MS zircon U-Pb data reveal Early Cretaceous age from two volcanic rock samples, with zircon crystallization from magmas at 140.3 ± 0.8 Ma and 139.3 ± 0.9 Ma,respectively. These rocks have high contents of total alkalis(Na_2O + K_2O = 5.58-9.45 wt.%), high-field-strength elements and light rare earth elements, conspicuous negative Eu anomalies, and depletions in Nb, Ta, Ti, Sr, Ba and P. Using this data, in combination with previous studies on the late Mesozoic volcanic belt in Southeast China, we propose that the volcanic rocks of the Ping Chau Formation probably originated from deep melting of the crust in a back-arc extensional setting induced by the subduction of the paleo-Pacific Plate. This formation represents the final stages of Early Cretaceous volcanic activity in Hong Kong, as associated with large-scale lithospheric extension, thinning and magmatism. Our results provide new information that can be used in evaluating the significance of Early Cretaceous volcanism and tectonics in Southeast China.Lulin Wang Longlong Zhao Mingzhong Tian Fadong Wu Xujiao Zhang 2019Geoscience Frontiers2019,10,2:1

Effects of water-fertilizer coupling on root distribution and yield of Chinese Jujube trees in Xinjiang显示文摘Water and fertilizer are the two main factors which promote the rapid growth of Jujube(Ziziphus jujuba)trees.Studies of root systems and the nutrition-use efficiency of dense, dwarfed fruit trees are limited, especially in an extremely arid region with drip irrigation. The experiment was conducted in a 12-year-old dwarf jujube planting basement in Hami from 2013 to 2015.In this experiment, root length density and root weight density were calculated and found to range from 75 cm to 275 cm in horizontal distance, and from 0 to 90 cm in vertical depth, treated with three drip irrigation quota gradients and three fertilizer rates with each treatment replicated three times. The results showed that,as the amount of nitrogen applied increased gradually, the jujubes’growth amount increased, reaching a maximum when an optimal concentration was applied. However, the jujubes’growth was inhibited, and the growth declined when the amount of nitrogen applied was more than the optimal concentration. At an appropriate level of nitrogen, the growth, yield and quality of jujube trees could be guaranteed. If the rate of nitrogen application was lowered, the jujubes’growth would inhibit, and hence the yield wound be seriously impacted. The optimal irrigation quota and fertilization amount were found to be 900 mm and 1500-1800 kg/hm^(2),respectively.The research findings were of significance and hold great promise for the development of the forestry and fruit industries in the arid region of Xinjiang. At the same time, there was a further study on irrigation technique, focusing on the combined effect of the dwarfed-planting technique and drip irrigation on jujube trees;with this information, the application efficiency of water and fertilizer can be optimized, leading to higher profits and economic efficiency.Liu Hongguang He Xinlin Li Jing Li Fadong Gong Ping Zhang Jie Yang Guang 2017International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2017,10,6:1
