| 1 | Xanthine oxidase inhibitors from Archidendron clypearia(Jack.) I.C. Nielsen: Results from systematic screening of Vietnamese medicinal plants显示文摘Objective: To screen Vietnamese medicinal plants for xanthine oxidase(XO) inhibitory activity and to isolate XO inhibitor(s) from the most active plant. Methods: The plants materials were extracted by methanol. The active plant materials were fractionated using different organic solvents, including n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and n-butanol. Bioassay-guided fractionation and column chromatography were used to isolate compounds. The compounds structures were elucidated by analysis of spectroscopic data, including IR, MS, and NMR. Results: Three hundreds and eleven methanol extracts(CME) belonging to 301 Vietnamese herbs were screened for XO inhibitory activity. Among these plants, 57 extracts displayed XO inhibitory activity at 100 μg/m L with inhibition rates of over 50%. The extracts of Archidendron clypearia, Smilax poilanei, Linociera ramiflora and Passiflora foetida exhibited the greatest potency with IC_(50) values below 30 μg/m L. Chemical study performed on the extract of Archidendron clypearia resulted in the isolation of six compounds, including 1-octacosanol, docosenoic acid, daucosterol, methyl gallate, quercitrin and(-)-7-O-galloyltricetiflavan. The compound(-)-7-O-galloyltricetiflavan showed the most potent XO inhibitory activity with an IC_(50) value of 25.5 μmol/L. Conclusions: From this investigation, four Vietnamese medicinal plants were identified to have XO inhibitory effects with IC_(50) values of the methanol extracts below 30 μg/m L. | 2 | Functional constipation in children:What physicians should know显示文摘Functional constipation(FC)is considered the most common functional gastrointestinal disorder in children with a pooled global prevalence of 14.4%(95%confidence interval:11.2-17.6)when diagnosed based on the Rome IV criteria.Its pathophysiological mechanisms are thought be multifactorial and complicated,resulting in difficult management.Currently,the most effective medication,when used in parallel with toilet training,is osmotic laxatives.Children’s adherence to medication and parental concern regarding long-term laxative use are the main contributors to treatment failure.Recently,novel therapies with a high safety profile have been developed,such as probiotics,synbiotics,serotonin 5-hydroxytryptamine 4 receptor agonists,chloride channel activators,and herbal and transitional medicines;nonetheless,well-designed research to support the use of these therapies is needed.This review aims to focus on multiple aspects of FC in children,including global prevalence,pathogenesis,diagnostic criteria,tools,as well as conventional and novel treatment options,such as non-pharmacological management,including adequate fiber and fluid intake,physiotherapy,or neuromodulators.We also report that in very difficult cases,surgical intervention may be required. | Duc Long Tran Palittiya Sintusek | 2023 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2023,29,8: | 3 |

| 4 | Effectiveness on post-stroke hemiplegia in patients:electroacupuncture plus cycling vs electroacupuncture alone显示文摘OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the effectiveness of cycling in combination with electroacupuncture in treatment of poststroke hemiplegia patients at National Hospital of Acupuncture,Vietnam.METHODS:The study was designed as a single-centre,outcome-assessor-blinded parallel randomised controlled trial with 120 post-stroke hemiplegia patients randomly assigned into two groups:electroacupuncture plus cycling(CT group) and electroacupuncture(AT group).Patients were assessed before and after the treatment(using muscle grading,modified Rankin,Barthel,Orgorozo scores and electromyography).Statistical Man–Whitney U test,and Fisher’s exact tests were used to compare between CT and AT groups.RESULTS:The results reported statistically significant improvement in motor function in patients suffering from hemiplegia following ischemic stroke in both CT and AT groups.Patients in CT group experienced a greater improvement compared to those in AT group including better muscle contraction(increased frequency and amplitude of electromyography and increased muscle grading scale);increased recovery(Orgogozo scale),increased independency(Barthel scale) and decreased disability(Modified Rankin scale)(P < 0.01).CONCLUSIONS:Combination with cycling training significantly improves the recovery of post-stroke patients treated with electroacupuncture. | Minh Duc Nguyen Thanh Van Tran Quoc Vinh Nguyen Ninh Khac Nguyen Son Truong Vu Luu Trong Nguyen Linh Vu Phuong Dang | 2023 | Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2023,43,2: | 2 |
| 5 | Upconversion luminescence of Gd2O3:Er3+and Gd2O3:Er3+/silica nanophosphors fabricated by EDTA combustion method显示文摘Gd2O3:Er^3+nanophosphors were fabricated by the combustion method in presence of Na2 ethylene diamine tetra acetic acid(EDTA-Na2)as fuel at not high temperature(≤350℃)within a very short time of 5 min.The added concentration of Er^3+ions in Gd2O3 matrix was changed from 0.5 mol%to 5.0 mol%.The X-ray diffraction pattern of samples indicates the monoclinic structure of Gd2O3:Er^3+.The morphology and chemical composition analysis of the Gd2O3:Er^3+samples are characterized by a field emission scanning electron microscope(FESEM)and a Fourier-transform infrared spectrometer(FTIR).The photoluminescence(PL),photo luminescence excitation(PLE)and upconversion(UC)at room temperature of the prepared materials with different concentrations of Er^3+were investigated.The PL of Gd2O3:Er^3+nanomaterials are shown in visible at 545,594,623,648,688 nm under excitation at 275 nm.The emission bands from transitions of Er^3+from 2P3/2 to 4F9/2 are observed,UC luminescent spectra of the Gd2O3:Er^3+/silica nanocomposites under 976 nm excitation show the bands at 548 and 670 nm.The influence of excitation power at 980 nm for transitions were measured and calculated.The results indicate that the upconversion process of Gd2O3:Er^3+/silica is two photons absorption mechanism.The low temperature dependence of UC luminescent intensities of the main bands of Gd2O3:Er^3+was investigated towards development of a nanotemperature sensor in the range of 10-300 K. | Le Quoc Minh Tran Kim Anh Nguyen Duy Hung Pham Thi Minh Chau Nguyen Thi Quy Hai Ho Van Tuyen Vu Thi Thai Ha Vu Duc Tu Wieslaw Strek | 2019 | Journal of Rare Earths2019,37,11: | 2 |

| 12 | Ecological and behavioural risk factors of scrub typhus in central Vietnam:a case-control study显示文摘Background The risk factors for scrub typhus in Vietnam remain unknown.Scrub typhus caused by Orientia tsutsugamushi often presents as an undifferentiated febrile illness and remains under appreciated due to the limited availability of diagnostic tests.This tropical rickettsial illness is increasingly recognized as an important cause of non-malaria acute undifferentiated fever in Asia.This study aimed to investigate behavioural and ecological related risk factors of scrub typhus to prevent this potentially life-threatening disease in Vietnam.Methods We conducted a clinical hospital-based active surveillance study,and a retrospective residence-enrolment date-age-matched case–control study in Khanh Hoa province,Vietnam,from August 2018 to March 2020.Clinical examinations,polymerase chain reaction and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay IgM tests were applied to define cases and controls.All enrolled participants filled out a questionnaire including demographic socio-economic status,personal behaviors/protective equipment,habitat connections,land use,and possible exposure to the vector.Multivariable conditional logistic regression was used to define the scrub typhus associated risk factors.Results We identified 44 confirmed cases and matched them with 152 controls.Among cases and controls,the largest age group was the 41–50 years old and males accounted for 61.4%and 42.8%,respectively.There were similarities in demographic characteristics between the two groups,with the exception of occupation.Several factors were significantly associated with acquisition of scrub typhus,including sitting/laying directly on household floor[adjusted OR(aOR)=4.9,95%CI:1.6–15.1,P=0.006],household with poor sanitation/conditions(aOR=7.9,95%CI:1.9–32.9,P=0.005),workplace environment with risk(aOR=3.0,95%CI:1.2–7.6,P=0.020),always observing mice around home(aOR=3.7,95%CI:1.4–9.9,P=0.008),and use of personal protective equipment in the field(aOR=0.4,95%CI:0.1–1.1,P=0.076).Conclusions Ecological and household hygiene-related factors were more associated with scrub typhus infection,than individual-level exposure activities in the hyper-endemic area.These findings support local education and allow people to protect themselves from scrub typhus,especially in areas with limitations in diagnostic capacity. | Hanh Thi Duc Tran Jan Hattendorf Hung Manh Do Thanh Tien Hoang Hang Thi Hai Hoang Hoa Ngoc Lam Mai Kim Huynh Lan Thi Hoang Vu Jakob Zinsstag Daniel Henry Paris Esther Schelling | 2021 | Infectious Diseases of Poverty2021,10,4: | 1 |

| 15 | Plasmonic Ag‑Decorated Few‑Layer MoS2 Nanosheets Vertically Grown on Graphene for Efficient Photoelectrochemical Water Splitting显示文摘A controllable approach that combines surface plasmon resonance and twodimensional(2D)graphene/MoS2 heterojunction has not been implemented despite its potential for efficient photoelectrochemical(PEC)water splitting.In this study,plasmonic Ag-decorated 2D MoS2 nanosheets were vertically grown on graphene substrates in a practical large-scale manner through metalorganic chemical vapor deposition of MoS2 and thermal evaporation of Ag.The plasmonic Ag-decorated MoS2 nanosheets on graphene yielded up to 10 times higher photo-to-dark current ratio than MoS2 nanosheets on indium tin oxide.The significantly enhanced PEC activity could be attributed to the synergetic effects of SPR and favorable graphene/2D MoS2 heterojunction.Plasmonic Ag nanoparticles not only increased visible-light and near-infrared absorption of 2D MoS2,but also induced highly amplified local electric field intensity in 2D MoS2.In addition,the vertically aligned 2D MoS2 on graphene acted as a desirable heterostructure for efficient separation and transportation of photo-generated carriers.This study provides a promising path for exploiting the full potential of 2D MoS2 for practical large-scale and efficient PEC water-splitting applications. | Dong‑Bum Seo Tran Nam Trung Dong‑Ok Kim Duong Viet Duc Sungmin Hong Youngku Sohn Jong‑Ryul Jeong Eui‑Tae Kim | 2020 | Nano-Micro Letters2020,12,12: | 1 |
