| 2 | The assessment of structural changes on optic nerve head and macula in primary open angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension显示文摘AIM:To assess morphological changes in macula, retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) and optic nevre head (ONH) of cases with primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) and ocular hypertension (OH) with spectral domain optic coherence tomography (OCT).METHODS:This study included 109 eyes from 62 POAG patients, 50 eyes from 30 OH patients, and 101 eyes from 53 healthy volunteers. Data gained by OCT were compared with perimetry indexes. ONH, RNFL and macula analysis were performed for all subjects. Rim area, disc area,average cup/disc (C/D) ratio, vertical C/D ratio, cup volume data were recorded during ONH analysis. Average RNFL thickness and the thickness of four quadrants (superior,inferior, nasal and temporal) was established in microns.In total, nine macular quadrants involving the foveal region mentioned in the Early Treatment Diabetic Treatment Study(ETDRS) template were measured, and average macular thickness and macular volume data were recorded during macula analysis. Differences between groups were evaluated with the one-way ANOVA test. Tukey’s multiple comparison test was performed to detect difference between groups.Receiver-operating characteristic (ROC) analysis was done for early stage POAG patients to establish sensitivity and specificity of chosen parameters in early stage POAG.Area under the receiver operating characteristic (AUROC)values were calculated to compare ROC areas.RESULTS:Statistically significant differences were found in all ONH parameters, except optic disc area. Neuroretinal rim area was identified as the parameter with the highest difference between groups (F=21.72, P<0.05). The highest correlation between ONH parameters and perimetry was observed at neuroretinal rim region (r=0.487). Inferior RNFL thickness was established as the parameter with the highest difference between groups among RNFL parameters. In the mean of all glaucoma patients, the highest correlation between data handled with OCT and mean deviation was observed in RNFL thickness. Average macular thickness was detected as the parameter with the highest difference between groups among macular parameters. The highest correlation between macula parameters and perimetry indexes was observed between average macular thickness and perimetry indexes (r=0.514).CONCLUSION:Although the assessment of ONH and the analysis of macular thickness are important in diagnosis and treatment, RNFL assessment is the most valuable parameter. | Kenan Dagdelen Emrah Dirican | 2018 | International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2018，11，10： | 8 |
| 3 | Importance of MutL homologue MLH1 and MutS homologue MSH2 expression in Turkish patients with sporadic colorectal cancer显示文摘AIM: To assess the incidence of MLH1 (the human MutL homologue) and MSH2 (the human MutS homologue) protein expression in Turkish patients with sporadic colorectal cancers and to compare their survival and clinicopathological features. METHODS: We validated the tissue microarray technology in 77 colorectal carcinomas by analyzing the immunohistochemical expression of proteins involved in two main pathways of colorectal carcinogenesis: p53 protein for loss of heterozygosity tumors; MLH1 and MSH2 proteins for microsatellite instability (MSI). RESULTS: Our analysis showed that 29 (39.2%) had loss of MLH1 expression, 5 (6.8%) had loss of MSH2 expression and 2 cases had loss of expression of both proteins. We found that 60% of MSH2-negative tumors were located in the right side of the colon; all MSH2-negative cases were women. In addition, the loss of MSH2 expression was correlated with low p53 expression. Neither MLH1 nor MSH2 expressions were associated with prognosis, although there seemed a tendency of longer survival (71.7 ± 8.65 mo vs 47.08 ± 5.26 mo) for the patients with MLH1-negative versus MLH1-positive carcinomas. There were not significant differences in overall and recurrence-free survival among MLH1/MSH2-positive and -negative cases.CONCLUSION: Our data supports that Turkish patients with MLH1- and MSH2-defective tumors have some distinct features from each other. | 4 | Unusual complication in patient with Gardner's syndrome: Coexistence of triple gastrointestinal perforation and lower gastrointestinal bleeding: A case report and review of literature显示文摘Gardner's syndrome(GS) is a rare syndrome with autosomal dominant inheritance, which is characterized by multiple intestinal polyps, dental anomalies, desmoid tumors, and soft tissue tumors. All gastrointestinal symptoms seen in GS are associated with the underlying familial adenomatosis polyposis and abdominal desmoid tumors, with the most common symptoms being anemia, lower gastrointestinal bleeding, abdominal pain, diarrhea, obstruction, and mucous defecation. To our best knowledge, no case of GS that has presented with gastrointestinal perforation and bleeding has ever been reported in the English language medical literature. A 37-year-old male who had been diagnosed with GS five years earlier was referred to our clinic for lower gastrointestinal bleeding. Despite the absence of a bleeding focus on conventional angiography, the patient was operated on with laparotomy, due to the persistence of both signs and symptoms of mild peritonitis. On the laparotomy, the patient was noted to have areas of perforation in the duodenum, splenic flexura, and midrectum. The third and fourth part of the duodenum, the proximal 15 cm segment of the jejunum, a 10 cm segment of the terminal ileum, the whole colon, and the upper and middle rectum were resected, and duodenojejunal side-to-side anastomosis and terminal ileostomy were performed. The histopathological analysis of the large mass measuring 30 cm × 20 cm was reported as a desmoid tumor. | 6 | Analysis of serum antibody profile against H pylori VacA and CagA antigens in Turkish patients with duodenal ulcer显示文摘AIM: To investigate the frequency of seropositivity aga- inst CagA, VacA proteins and to determine their indepen- dent effects on the development of duodenal ulcer (DU) in Turkish patients. METHODS: The study was designed as a prospective one from a tertiary referral hospital. Dyspeptic patients who were referred to our endoscopy unit for upper gas- trointestinal endoscopy between June 2003 and March 2004 and diagnosed to have DU or nonulcer dyspepsia (NUD) were included. Biopsies from the antrum and body of the stomach were taken in order to assess the current H pylori status by histology, rapid urease test and culture. Fasting sera were obtained from all patients and H pylori status of all sera was determined by IgG antibo- dies using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELI- SA) kit. All seropositive patients were further analysed using Western blot assays detecting IgG antibodies aga- inst CagA and VacA proteins. The χ2 test was used for statistical comparison of the values and age-sex adjusted multiple regression analysis was used to determine the independent effects of CagA and VacA seropositivities on the development of DU. RESULTS: Sixty-three patients with DU and 62 patients with NUD were eligible for the final analysis. Seropositi- vity for anti-CagA was detected in 51 of 62 (82%), andin 55 of 63 (87%) patients with NUD and DU, respec- tively (p = no significance), and seropositivity for anti- VacA was found in 25 of 62 (40% ) and in 16 of 63 (25%) patients, with NUD and DU, respectively. | 7 | High-Performance 3-D Fiber Network Composite Electrolyte Enabled with Li-Ion Conducting Nanofibers and Amorphous PEO-Based Cross-Linked Polymer for Ambient All-Solid-State Lithium-Metal Batteries显示文摘Solid electrolytes have gained attention recently for the development of next-generation Li-ion batteries since they can fun-damentally improve the battery stability and safety.Among various types of solid electrolytes,composite solid electrolytes(CSEs)exhibit both high ionic conductivity and excellent interfacial contact with the electrodes.Incorporating active nanofib-ers into the polymer matrix demonstrates an effective method to fabricate CSEs.However,current CSEs based on traditional poly(ethylene oxide)(PEO)polymer suffer from the poor ionic conductivity of PEO and agglomeration effect of inorganic fillers at high concentrations,which limit further improvements in Li+conductivity and electrochemical stability.Herein,we synthesize a novel PEO based cross-linked polymer(CLP)as the polymer matrix with naturally amorphous structure and high room-temperature ionic conductivity of 2.40×10^(−4)S cm^(−1).Li_(0.3)La_(0.557)TiO_(3)(LLTO)nanofibers are incorporated into the CLP matrix to form composite solid electrolytes,achieving enhanced ionic conductivity without showing filler agglomeration.The high content of Li-conductive nanofibers improves the mechanical strength,ensures the conductive network,and increases the total Li+conductivity to 3.31×10^(−4)S cm^(−1).The all-solid-state Li|LiFePO_(4)batteries with LLTO nanofiber-incorporated CSEs are able to deliver attractive specific capacity of 147 mAh g^(−1)at room temperature,and no evident dendrite is found at the anode/electrolyte interface after 100 cycles. | Chaoyi Yan Pei Zhu Hao Jia Jiadeng Zhu R.Kalai Selvan Ya Li Xia Dong Zhuang Du Indunil Angunawela Nianqiang Wu Mahmut Dirican Xiangwu Zhang | 2019 | Advanced Fiber Materials2019，1，1： | 2 |
