| 1 | Geochronology and significance of volcanic rocks in the Ning-Wu Basin of China显示文摘The Ning-Wu(Nanjing-Wuhu) Basin is one of the most important volcanic basins in the Middle-Lower Yangtze River Valley,eastern China.It consists of four volcanic units,i.e.,the Longwangshan,Dawangshan,Gushan,and Niangniangshan Formations.Their LA-ICP MS U-Pb zircon ages are 134.8±1.8,132.2±1.6,129.5±0.8,and 126.8±0.6 Ma,respectively.Results of this study indicate that all volcanic rocks in the Ning-Wu Basin were formed in the Early Cretaceous from 135 to 127 Ma,lasting 8-10 m.y.No Jurassic volcanic activities occurred in any of the volcanic basins of the Middle-Lower Yangtze River Valley,including the Ning-Wu Basin.These new chronological results provide significant evidence for further study of this region to improve our understanding of Mesozoic tectonic,magmatic,and metallogenic processes of eastern China. | ZHOU TaoFa FAN Yu YUAN Feng ZHANG LeJun QIAN Bin MA Liang YANG XiFei David R COOKE | 2011 | Science China Earth Sciences2011,54,2: | 33 |

| 3 | Twenty years of Chinese vascular plant novelties,2000 through 2019显示文摘From 2000 to 2019,11,895 new names or new additions to the Chinese vascular flora were proposed by 4226 individuals(4086 articles and 140 books),as documented in the Chinese Plant Names Index(CPNI).During those 20 years,4407 new taxa of vascular plants were described from China,including 7 new families,132 new genera,3543 new species,68 new subspecies,497 new varieties and 160 new forms.Additionally,3562 new combinations and names at new rank and 306 new replacement names were also proposed.Among these various new names were 150 invalid names and 108 illegitimate names,including some that have not been resolved.Six hundred and forty three vascular plants were reported as new to China,while 2349 names were reduced to synonyms of 1406 taxa.The data show that the Chinese flora increased in size at the rate of about 200 taxa annually during those years.Despite the increased attention given to biodiversity in recent years,the evidence indicates that a large number of species in China have yet to be discovered.Further basic investigation of the Chinese flora is needed.Additionally,in the past two decades only 8.5%of the newly published species have been based on molecular evidence,but in the past five years such data have increased significantly,reaching about 20%.Molecular data will undoubtedly become increasingly significant in the discovery of new species in the coming years.Yunnan,Guangxi,Sichuan,Xizang and Taiwan were important sources of new discoveries,with more than 3300 new taxa and records from these five provinces.By area,Taiwan and Hainan,two islands in southern China,have the highest density of newly discovered species.Regional plant surveys are still needed,especially in areas in the southwest and on the southern islands. | Cheng Du Shuai Liao David E.Boufford Jinshuang Ma | 2020 | Plant Diversity2020,42,5: | 26 |
| 4 | The Performance of Whole Genome Amplification Methods and Next-Generation Sequencing for Pre-Implantation Genetic Diagnosis of Chromosomal Abnormalities显示文摘Reliable and accurate pre-implantation genetic diagnosis(PGD) of patient's embryos by next-generation sequencing(NGS) is dependent on efficient whole genome amplification(WGA) of a representative biopsy sample. However, the performance of the current state of the art WGA methods has not been evaluated for sequencing. Using low template DNA(15 pg) and single cells, we showed that the two PCR-based WGA systems Sure Plex and MALBAC are superior to the REPLI-g WGA multiple displacement amplification(MDA) system in terms of consistent and reproducible genome coverage and sequence bias across the 24 chromosomes, allowing better normalization of test to reference sequencing data. When copy number variation sequencing(CNV-Seq) was applied to single cell WGA products derived by either Sure Plex or MALBAC amplification, we showed that known disease CNVs in the range of 3e15 Mb could be reliably and accurately detected at the correct genomic positions. | 5 | Management of granulomatous lobular mastitis: an international multidisciplinary consensus(2021 edition)显示文摘Granulomatous lobular mastitis(GLM) is a rare and chronic benign inflammatory disease of the breast. Difficulties exist in the management of GLM for many front-line surgeons and medical specialists who care for patients with inflammatory disorders of the breast. This consensus is summarized to establish evidence-based recommendations for the management of GLM. Literature was reviewed using PubMed from January 1, 1971 to July 31, 2020. Sixty-six international experienced multidisciplinary experts from 11 countries or regions were invited to review the evidence.Levels of evidence were determined using the American College of Physicians grading system, and recommendations were discussed until consensus. Experts discussed and concluded 30 recommendations on historical definitions,etiology and predisposing factors, diagnosis criteria, treatment, clinical stages, relapse and recurrence of GLM. GLM was recommended as a widely accepted definition. In addition, this consensus introduced a new clinical stages and management algorithm for GLM to provide individual treatment strategies. In conclusion, diagnosis of GLM depends on a combination of history, clinical manifestations, imaging examinations, laboratory examinations and pathology.The approach to treatment of GLM should be applied according to the different clinical stage of GLM. This paper presents morphological descriptions of spores of Selaginella sinensis (Desv.) Spring, 1843 (Selaginellaceae) and Ceratopteris cf. thalictroides (L.) Brongniart, 1821 (Parkeriaceae) and the algae Pediastrum boryanum (Turpin) Meneghini, 1840, P. simplex Meyen, 1829, P. integrum N geli, 1849 (all Hydrodictyaceae), Spiniferites Mantell, 1850, emend. Sarjeant, 1970 (Spiniferitaceae) and Concentricystes Rossignal, 1962, emend. Jiabo, 1978 (systematic position unclear), and discusses their occurrence in mostly Quaternary sedimentary successions. All are closely associated with aquatic habitats. Extant Selaginella sinensis often colonizes fairly wet hillsides and gaps between rocks, and shady sides of ravines and slopes; it is also found within thickets of trees and shrubs (boscages) and in forests with calcareous soils. Ceratopteris thalictroides, Pediastrum and Concentricystes inhabit freshwater lakes and both natural and artificial wetlands, such as paddy fields and ditches. Spiniferites is a salt-water genus and usually associated with the marine realm. | 12 | Hierarchical highly ordered SnO_(2) nanobowl branched ZnO nanowires for ultrasensitive and selective hydrogen sulfide gas sensing显示文摘Highly sensitive and selective hydrogen sulfide(H_(2)S)sensors based on hierarchical highly ordered SnO_(2) nanobowl branched ZnO nanowires(NWs)were synthesized via a sequential process combining hard template processing,atomic-layer deposition,and hydrothermal processing.The hierarchical sensing materials were prepared in situ on microelectromechanical systems,which are expected to achieve high-performance gas sensors with superior sensitivity,long-term stability and repeatability,as well as low power consumption.Specifically,the hierarchical nanobowl SnO_(2)@ZnO NW sensor displayed a high sensitivity of 6.24,a fast response and recovery speed(i.e.,14 s and 39 s,respectively),and an excellent selectivity when detecting 1 ppm H_(2)S at 250°C,whose rate of resistance change(i.e.,5.24)is 2.6 times higher than that of the pristine SnO_(2) nanobowl sensor.The improved sensing performance could be attributed to the increased specific surface area,the formation of heterojunctions and homojunctions,as well as the additional reaction between ZnO and H_(2)S,which were confirmed by electrochemical characterization and band alignment analysis.Moreover,the well-structured hierarchical sensors maintained stable performance after a month,suggesting excellent stability and repeatability.In summary,such well-designed hierarchical highly ordered nanobowl SnO_(2)@ZnO NW gas sensors demonstrate favorable potential for enhanced sensitive and selective H_(2)S detection with long-term stability and repeatability. | Li-Yuan Zhu Kai-Ping Yuan Jia-He Yang Cheng-Zhou Hang Hong-Ping Ma Xin-Ming Ji Anjana Devi Hong-Liang Lu David Wei Zhang | 2020 | Microsystems & Nanoengineering2020,6,1: | 7 |
| 13 | Economic cost analysis of malaria case management at the household level during the malaria elimination phase in The People’s Republic of China显示文摘Background:In China,malaria has been posing a significant economic burden on households.To evaluate malaria economic burden in terms of both direct and indirect costs has its meaning in improving the effectiveness of malaria elimination program in China.Methods:A number of study sites(eight counties in five provinces)were selected from the malaria endemic area in China,representing the different levels of malaria incidence,risk classification,economic development.A number of households with malaria cases(n=923)were surveyed during the May to December in 2012 to collect information on malaria economic burden.Descriptive statistics were used to characterize the basic profiles of selected malaria cases in terms of their gender,age group,occupation and malaria type.The malaria economic costs were evaluated by direct and indirect costs.Comparisons were carried out by using the chi-square test(or Z-test)and the Mann-Whitney U test among malaria cases with reference to local/imported malaria patients,hospitalized/out patients,and treatment hospitals.Results:The average cost of malaria per case was 1691.23 CNY(direct cost was 735.41 CNY and indirect cost was 955.82 CNY),which accounted for 11.1%of a household’s total income.The average costs per case for local and imported malaria were 1087.58 CNY and 4271.93 CNY,respectively.The average cost of a malaria patient being diagnosed and treated in a hospital at the county level or above(3975.43 CNY)was 4.23 times higher than that of malaria patient being diagnosed and treated at a village or township hospital(938.80 CNY).Conclusion:This study found that malaria has been posing a significant economic burden on households in terms of direct and indirect costs.There is a need to improve the effectiveness of interventions in order to reduce the impact costs of malaria,especially of imported infections,in order to eliminate the disease in China. | Shang Xia Jin-Xiang Ma Duo-Quan Wang Shi-Zhu Li David Rollinson Shui-Sen Zhou Xiao-Nong Zhou | 2016 | Infectious Diseases of Poverty2016,5,1: | 4 |

| 16 | A laser extinction based sensor for simultaneous droplet size and vapor measurement显示文摘Multiphase flows involving liquid droplets in association with gas flow occur in many industrial and scientific applications. Recent work has demonstrated the feasibility of using optical techniques based on laser extinction to simultaneously measure vapor concentration and temperature and droplet size and loading. This work introduces the theoretical background for the optimal design of such laser extinction techniques, termed WMLE (wavelength-multiplexed laser extinction). This paper focuses on the devel- opment of WMLE and presents a systematic methodology to guide the selection of suitable wavelengths and optimize the performance of WMLE for specific applications. WMLE utilizing wavelengths from 0.5 to 10 m is illustrated for droplet size and vapor concentration measurements in an example of water spray, and is found to enable unique and sensitive Sauter mean diameter measurement in the range of ~1-15μm along with accurate vapor detection. A vapor detection strategy based on differential absorption is developed to extend accurate measurement to a significantly wider range of droplet loading and vapor concentration as compared to strategies based on direct fixed-wavelength absorption. Expected performance of the sensor is modeled for an evaporating spray. | 17 | The next detectors for gravitational wave astronomy显示文摘This paper focuses on the next detectors for gravitational wave astronomy which will be required after the current ground based detectors have completed their initial observations, and probably achieved the first direct detection of gravitational waves. The next detectors will need to have greater sensitivity, while also enabling the world array of detectors to have improved angular resolution to allow localisation of signal sources. Sect. 1 of this paper begins by reviewing proposals for the next ground based detectors,and presents an analysis of the sensitivity of an 8 km armlength detector, which is proposed as a safe and cost-effective means to attain a 4-fold improvement in sensitivity. The scientific benefits of creating a pair of such detectors in China and Australia is emphasised. Sect. 2 of this paper discusses the high performance suspension systems for test masses that will be an essential component for future detectors, while sect. 3 discusses solutions to the problem of Newtonian noise which arise from fluctuations in gravity gradient forces acting on test masses. Such gravitational perturbations cannot be shielded, and set limits to low frequency sensitivity unless measured and suppressed. Sects. 4 and 5 address critical operational technologies that will be ongoing issues in future detectors. Sect. 4 addresses the design of thermal compensation systems needed in all high optical power interferometers operating at room temperature. Parametric instability control is addressed in sect. 5. Only recently proven to occur in Advanced LIGO, parametric instability phenomenon brings both risks and opportunities for future detectors. The path to future enhancements of detectors will come from quantum measurement technologies.
