Topology-Based Recommendation of Users in Micro-Blogging Communities显示文摘Nowadays, more and more users share real-time news and information in micro-blogging communities such as Twitter,Tumblr or Plurk. In these sites, information is shared via a followers/followees social network structure in which a follower will receive all the micro-blogs from the users he/she follows, named followees. With the increasing number of registered users in this kind of sites, finding relevant and reliable sources of information becomes essential. The reduced number of characters present in micro-posts along with the informal language commonly used in these sites make it difficult to apply standard content-based approaches to the problem of user recommendation. To address this problem,we propose an algorithm for recommending relevant users that explores the topology of the network considering different factors that allow us to identify users that can be considered good information sources.Experimental evaluation conducted with a group of users is reported, demonstrating the potential of the approach.Marcelo G.Armentano Daniela Godoy Analía Amandi 2012Journal of Computer Science & Technology2012,27,3:8
The transcription factor ZEB1 promotes chemoresistance in prostate cancer cell lines显示文摘One of the factors promoting tumoral progress is the abnormal activation of the epithelial-mesenchymal transition(EMT)program which has been associated with chemoresistance in tumoral cells. The transcription factor zinc finger E-box-binding homeobox 1(ZEB1),a key EMT activator, has recently been related to docetaxel resistance, the main chemotherapeutic used in advanced prostate cancer treatment. The mechanisms involved in this protective effect are still unclear. In a previous work,we demonstrated that ZEB1 expression induced an EMT-like phenotype in prostate cancer cell lines. In this work,we used prostate cancer cell lines 22Rvl and DU145 to study the effect of ZEB1 modulation on docetaxel resistance and its possible mechanisms. The results showed that ZEB1 overexpression conferred to 22Rvl cell resistance to docetaxel while its silencing made DU145 cells more sensitive to it.Analysis of resistance markers showed no presenee of ATP-binding cassette subfamily B member 1(MDR1)and no changes in breast cancer resistance protein(BCRP)or ATP-binding cassette subfamily C member 10(MRP7).However,a correlation between ZEB1,multidrug resistance-associated protein 1(MRP1),and ATP-binding cassette subfamily C member 4(MRP4)expression was observed.MRP4 inhibition, using MK571,resensitized cells with ZEB1 overexpression to docetaxel treatment. In addition, modulation of ZEB1 and subsequent change in MRP4 expression correlated with a lower apoptotic response to docetaxel, characterized by lower B-cell lymphoma 2(Bcl2),high BCL2-associated X protein(Bax),and high active caspase 3 expression. The response to docetaxel in our model seems to be mediated mainly by activation of the apoptotic death program. Our results showed that modulation of MRP4 could be a mediator of ZEBl-related resistance to docetaxel in prostate cancer, making it a possible marker for chemotherapy response in patients who do not express MDR1.Octavio Orellana-Serradell Daniela Herrera Enrique A Castellon Hector R Contreras 2019Asian Journal of Andrology2019,21,5:5

Relationship between Crohn’s disease, infection with Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis and SLC11A1 gene polymorphisms in Sardinian patients显示文摘AIM: To study the association between Crohn’s disease (CD), Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratubercu- losis (MAP), and genetic factors by examining the role of natural resistance-associated macrophage protein 1 (NRAMP1) gene polymorphisms (now SLC11A1) in Sar dinian patients with CD and controls. METHODS: Thirty-seven CD patients and 34 controls with no inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) were recruited at the University of Sassari after giving written con sent. Six SCL11A1 polymorphisms previously reported to be the most significantly associated with IBD were searched. M. paratuberculosis was identified by IS900 PCR and sequencing. Logistic regression was used to cal culate odds ratios (OR) for the associations among CD presence of MAP, and 6 loci described above. RESULTS: For the first time, a strong association was observed between polymorphisms at NRAMP1 locus 823C/T and CD. While CD was strongly associated withboth NRAMP1 and MAP, NRAMP1 polymorphisms and MAP themselves were not correlated. CONCLUSION: Combined with previous work on the NOD2/CARD15 gene, it is clear that the interplay of ge- netic, infectious, and immunologic factors in the etiology of CD is complex.Leonardo A Sechi Maria Gazouli Lee E Sieswerda Paola Molicotti Niyaz Ahmed John Ikonomopoulos Antonio M Scanu Daniela Paccagnini Stefania Zanetti 2006World Journal of Gastroenterology2006,12,44:3
Laparoscopic splenectomy for a littoral cell angioma of the spleen: Case report显示文摘A littoral cell angioma(LCA) is a primary vascular tumor of the spleen, that can have malignant potential and may present association with other malignancies. This is a case of LCA that was discovered incidentally in a 79-year-old woman who presented with a polycythemia at the time of consultation. The neoplasm was evaluated by ultrasound and computed tomography. The patient underwent a splenectomy that revealed LCA by pathological evaluation. The post-operative outcome was favorable with no complications or recurrent disease. This case presentation, clinical, radiographic, and pathological features of an uncommon splenic tumor can be studied in order to advance our knowledge in our understanding of LCA.Alice Marzetti Federico Messina Daniela Prando Luca A Verza Ugo Vacca Alireza Azabdaftari Leonardo Rubinato Domenico Reale Massimo Favat Mario Barbujani Ferdinando Agresta 2015World Journal of Clinical Cases2015,3,11:3
Cognitive disorder and dementia in type 2 diabetes mellitus显示文摘Insulin,a key pleiotropic hormone, regulates metabolism through several signaling pathways in target tissues including skeletal muscle, liver, and brain. In the brain, insulin modulates learning and memory, and impaired insulin signaling is associated with metabolic dysregulation and neurodegenerative diseases. At the receptor level,in aging and Alzheimer’s disease(AD)models, the amount of insulin receptors and their functions are decreased.Clinical and animal model studies suggest that memory improvements are due to changes in insulin levels.Furthermore, diabetes mellitus(DM)and insulin resistance are associated with age-related cognitive decline, increased levels ofβ-amyloid peptide, phosphorylation of tau protein;oxidative stress,pro-inflammatory cytokine production and dyslipidemia. Recent evidence shows that deleting brain insulin receptors leads to mildobesity and insulin resistance without influencing brain size and apoptosis development.Conversely, deleting insulin-like growth factor 1 receptor (IGF-1R) affects brain size anddevelopment, and contributes to behavior changes. Insulin is synthesized locally in the brain andis released from the neurons. Here, we reviewed proposed pathophysiological hypotheses toexplain increased risk of dementia in the presence of DM. Regardless of the exact sequence ofevents leading to neurodegeneration, there is strong evidence that mitochondrial dysfunctionplays a key role in AD and DM. A triple transgenic mouse model of AD showed mitochondrialdysfunction, oxidative stress, and loss of synaptic integrity. These alterations are comparable tothose induced in wild-type mice treated with sucrose, which is consistent with the proposal thatmitochondrial alterations are associated with DM and contribute to AD development. Alterationsin insulin/IGF-1 signaling in DM could lead to mitochondrial dysfunction and low antioxidantcapacity of the cell. Thus, insulin/IGF-1 signaling is important for increased neural processing andsystemic metabolism, and could be a specific target for therapeutic strategies to decreasealterations associated with age-related cognitive decline.Genaro G Ortiz Miguel Huerta Héctor A González-Usigli Erandis D Torres-Sánchez Daniela LC Delgado-Lara Fermín P Pacheco-Moisés Mario A Mireles-Ramírez Blanca MG Torres-Mendoza Roxana I Moreno-Cih Irma E Velázquez-Brizuela 2022World Journal of Diabetes2022,13,4:2
Chronic hepatitis C virus infection:Serum biomarkers inpredicting liver damage显示文摘Currently, a major clinical challenge in the management of the increasing number of hepatitis C virus(HCV) infected patients is determining the best means for evaluating liver impairment. Prognosis and treatment of chronic hepatitis C(CHC) are partly dependent on the assessment of histological activity, namely cell necrosis and inflammation, and the degree of liver fibrosis. These parameters can be provided by liver biopsy; however, in addition to the risks related to an invasive procedure, liver biopsy has been associated with sampling error mostly due to suboptimal biopsy size. To avoid these pitfalls, several markers have been proposed as non-invasive alternatives for the diagnosis of liver damage. Distinct approaches among the currently available non-invasive methods are(1) the physical ones based on imaging techniques; and(2) the biological ones based on serum biomarkers. In this review, we discuss these approaches with special focus on currently available non-invasive serum markers. We will discuss:(1) class?Ⅰ?serum biomarkers individually and as combined panels, particularly those that mirror the metabolism of liver extracellular matrix turnover and/or fibrogenic cell changes;(2) class Ⅱ biomarkers that are indirect serum markers and are based on the evaluation of common functional alterations in the liver; and(3) biomarkers of liver cell death, since hepatocyte apoptosis plays a significant role in the pathogenesis of HCV infection. We highlight in this review the evidence behind the use of these markers and assess the diagnostic accuracy as well as advantages, limitations, and application in clinical practice of each test for predicting liver damage in CHC.Pamela Valva Daniela A Ríos Elena De Matteo Maria V Preciado 2016World Journal of Gastroenterology2016,22,4:2
Isolated small bowel transplantation outcomes and the impact of immunosuppressants: Experience of a single transplant center显示文摘AIM: To investigate patient and graft outcomes in isolated small bowel transplant(SBTx) recipients and immunosuppressant induction agent impact on outcomes.METHODS: A retrospective review of the perioperative data of patients who underwent SBTx transplant during an 8-year period was conducted. The intraoperative data were: patient demographics, etiology of short gut syndrome, hemodynamic parameters, coagulation profiles, intraoperative fluid and blood products transfused, and development of post-reperfusion. The postoperative data were: hospital/intensive care unit stays, duration of mechanical ventilation, postoperative incidence of acute kidney injury, and 1-year patient and graft outcomes. The effects of the three immunosuppressant induction agents(Zenapax, Thymoglobulin, Campath) on patient and graft outcomes were reviewed.RESULTS: During the 8-year period there were 77 patients; 1-year patient and graft survival were 95% and 86% respectively. Sixteen patients received Zenapax, 22 received Thymoglobulin, and 39 received Campath without effects on patient or graft survival(P = 0.90, P = 0.14, respectively). The use of different immune induction agents did not affect the incidence of rejection and infection during the first 90 postoperative days(P = 0.072, P = 0.29, respectively). The Zenapax group received more intraoperative fluid and blood products and were coagulopathic at the end of surgery. Zenapax and Thymoglobulin significantly increased serum creatinine at 48 h(P = 0.023) and 1 wk(P = 0.001) post-transplant, but none developed renal failure or required dialysis at the end of the first year.CONCLUSION: One-year patient and graft survival were 95% and 86%, respectively. The use of different immunosuppressant induction agents may affect the intraoperative course and short-term postoperative morbidities, but not 1-year patient and graft outcomes.Ibtesam A Hilmi Raymond M Planinsic Ramona Nicolau-Raducu Daniela Damian Ali Al-Khafaji Tetsuro Sakai Kareem Abu-Elmagd 2013World Journal of Transplantation2013,3,4:2
