| 1 | Rapid improvement of PM2.5 pollution and associated health benefits in China during 2013–2017显示文摘Exposure to fine particulate matter(PM2.5)is known to harm public health.In China,after implementation of aggressive emissions control measures under the Action Plan of Air Pollution Prevention and Control(2013-2017),air quality has significantly improved.In this work,we investigated changes in PM2.5 exposure and the associated health impacts in China for the period 2013-2017.We used an optimal estimator of PM2.5 combining in-situ observations,satellite measurements,and simulations from a chemical transport model to derive the spatial and temporal variations in PM2.5 exposure,and then used welldeveloped exposure-response functions to estimate the premature deaths attributable to PM2.5 exposure.We found that national population-weighed annual mean PM2.5 concentrations decreased from 67.4μgm-3 in 2013 to 45.5μgm-3 in 2017(32%reduction).This rapid decrease in PM2.5 pollution led to a 14%reduction in premature deaths due to long-term exposure.We estimated that,during 2013-2017,the premature deaths attributable to long-term PM2.5 exposure decreased from 1.2 million(95%CI:1.0,1.3;fraction of total mortality:13%)in 2013 to 1.0 million(95%CI:0.9,1.2;10%)in 2017.Despite the rapid decrease in annual mean PM2.5 concentrations,health benefits associated with reduced long-term exposure were limited,because for many cities,the PM2.5 levels remain at the portion where the exposure-response function is less steeper than that at the lowconcentration end.We also found that the deaths associated with acute exposure decreased by 61%during 2013-2017 due to rapid reduction in the number of heavily polluted days.Our results confirm that clean air policies in China have mitigated the air pollution crisis;however,continuous emissions reduction efforts are required to protect citizens from air pollution. | Tao XUE Jun LIU Qiang ZHANG Guannan GENG Yixuan ZHENG Dan TONG Zhu LIU Dabo GUAN Yu BO Tong ZHU Kebin HE Jiming HAO | 2019 | Science China Earth Sciences2019,62,12: | 17 |

| 3 | Identifying the molecular basis of Jinhong tablets against chronic superficial gastritis via chemical profile identification and symptom-guided network pharmacology analysis显示文摘Chronic superficial gastritis(CSG)is a common disease of the digestive system that possesses a serious pathogenesis.Jinhong tablet(JHT),a traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)prescription,exerts therapeutic effects against CSG.However,the molecular basis of its therapeutic effect has not been clarified.Herein,we employed ultra-performance liquid chromatography coupled with quadrupole time-of-flight tandem mass spectrometry(UPLC-Q/TOF-MS)based chemical profile identification to determine the chemical components in JHT.Further,we applied network pharmacology to illustrate its molecular mechanisms.A total of 96 chemical constituents were identified in JHT,31 of which were confirmed using reference standards.Based on the bioinformatics analysis using the symptom-guided pharmacological networks of“chi,”“blood,”“pain,”and“inflammation,”and target screening through the interaction probabilities between compounds and targets,matrix metalloproteinase 2(MMP2),dopamine d2 receptor(DRD2),and Aldo-keto reductase family 1 member B1(AKR1B1)were identified as key targets in the therapeutic effect exhibited by JHT against CSG.Moreover,according to the inhibitory activities presented in the literature and binding mode analysis,the structural types of alkaloids,flavonoids,organic acids,including chlorogenic acid(10),caffeic acid(13),(-)-corydalmine(33),(-)-isocorypalmine(36),isochlorogenic acid C(38),isochlorogenic acid A(41),quercetin-3-O-a-L-rhamnoside(42),isochlorogenic acid B(47),quercetin(63),and kaempferol(70)tended to show remarkable activities against CSG.Owing to the above findings,we systematically identified the chemical components of JHT and revealed its molecular mechanisms based on the symptoms associated with CSG. | Danfeng Shi Lingxian Liu Haibo Li Dabo Pan Xiaojun Yao Wei Xiao Xinsheng Yao Yang Yu | 2022 | Journal of Pharmaceutical Analysis2022,12,1: | 6 |

| 8 | 1H nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy-basedmetabonomic study in patients with cirrhosis and hepaticencephalopathy显示文摘AIM: To identify plasma metabolites used as biomarkers in order to distinguish cirrhotics from controls and encephalopathics.METHODS: A clinical study involving stable cirrhotic patients with and without overt hepatic encephalopathy was designed. A control group of healthy volunteers was used. Plasma from those patients was analysed using 1H- nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. We used the Carr Purcell Meiboom Gill sequence to process the sample spectra at ambient probe temperature. We used a gated secondary irradiation field for water signal suppression. Samples were calibrated and referenced using the sodium trimethyl silyl propionate peak at 0.00 ppm. For each sample 128 transients(FID's) were acquired into 32 K complex data points over a spectral width of 6 KHz. 30 degree pulses were applied with an acquisition time of 4.0 s in order to achieve better resolution, followed by a recovery delay of 12 s, to allow for complete relaxation and recovery of the magnetisation. A metabolic profile was created for stable cirrhotic patients without signs of overt hepatic encephalopathy and encephalopathic patients as well as healthy controls. Stepwise discriminant analysis was then used and discriminant factors were created to differentiate between the three groups.RESULTS: Eighteen stabled cirrhotic patients, eighteen patients with overt hepatic encephalopathy and seventeen healthy volunteers were recruited. Patients with cirrhosis had significantly impaired ketone body metabolism, urea synthesis and gluconeogenesis. This was demonstrated by higher concentrations of acetoacetate(0.23 ± 0.02 vs 0.05 ± 0.00, P < 0.01), and b-hydroxybutarate(0.58 ± 0.14 vs 0.08 ± 0.00, P < 0.01), lower concentrations of glutamine(0.44 ± 0.08 vs 0.63 ± 0.03, P < 0.05), histidine(0.16 ± 0.01 vs 0.36 ± 0.04, P < 0.01) and arginine(0.08 ± 0.01 vs 0.14 ± 0.02, P < 0.03) and higher concentrations of glutamate(1.36 ± 0.25 vs 0.58 ± 0.04, P < 0.01), lactate(1.53 ± 0.11 vs 0.42 ± 0.05, P < 0.01), pyruvate(0.11 ± 0.02 vs 0.03 ± 0.00, P < 0.01) threonine(0.39 ± 0.02 vs 0.08 ± 0.01, P < 0.01) and aspartate(0.37 ± 0.03 vs 0.03 ± 0.01). A five metabolite signature by stepwise discriminant analysis could separate between controls and cirrhotic patients with an accuracy of 98%. In patients with encephalopathy we observed further derangement of ketone body metabolism, impaired production of glycerol and myoinositol, reversal of Fischer's ratio and impaired glutamine production as demonstrated by lower b-hydroxybutyrate(0.58 ± 0.14 vs 0.16 ± 0.02, P < 0.0002), higher acetoacetate(0.23 ± 0.02 vs 0.41 ± 0.16, P < 0.05), leucine(0.33 ± 0.02 vs 0.49 ± 0.05, P < 0.005) and isoleucine(0.12 ± 0.02 vs 0.27 ± 0.02, P < 0.0004) and lower glutamine(0.44 ± 0.08 vs 0.36 ± 0.04, P < 0.013), glycerol(0.53 ± 0.03 vs 0.19 ± 0.02, P < 0.000) and myoinositol(0.36 ± 0.04 vs 0.18 ± 0.02, P < 0.010) concentrations. | 9 | Factors associated with coverage of praziquantel for schistosomiasis control in the communitydirect intervention (CDI) approach in Mali (West Africa)显示文摘Background:Despite the progress made in the control of Neglected Tropical Diseases(NTD),schistosome and soil-transmitted helminth infections are far from being effectively managed in many parts of the world.Chemotherapy,the key element of all control strategies,is faced with some difficulties in terms of access to treatment.Our study aims to describe the factors involved in the success or failure of the community-directed intervention(CDI)approach through control programmes,which aims to achieve consistent high coverage at affordable and sustainable costs in endemic areas.Methods:The CDI approach was carried out from December 2007 to October 2008 in ten villages of the district of Diéma,Mali.At inclusion,each child part of the study’s sample was interviewed and submitted for a physical examination.The study focused on:data collection,treatment of the eligible population,evaluation of the treatment coverage,performance of community drug distributors(CDDs),and the involvement and perception of populations.Results:A total of 8,022 eligible people were studied with a mean coverage rate of 76.7%.Using multiple regression,it was determined that receiving praziquantel as treatment was associated with five factors:belonging to the Fulani or Moorish ethnic minority versus the Bambara/Soninke,use of the central versus the house-to-house drug distribution mode,the ratio of the population to the number of CDDs,the lack of supervision and belonging to the age group of 15 years or above(p<0.05).As well as that,it was found that the presence of parallel community-based programmes(HIV,tuberculosis)that provide financial incentives for community members discouraged many CDDs(who in most cases are volunteers)to participate in the CDI approach due to a lack of incentives.Conclusions:The findings indicate that the success of the CDI approach depends on,amongst other things,the personal characteristics of the respondents,as well as on community factors. | Abdoulaye Dabo Boubacar Bary Bourema Kouriba Oumar Sankaré Ogobara Doumbo | 2013 | Infectious Diseases of Poverty2013,2,1: | 3 |

| 14 | Embodied carbon emissions in China-US trade显示文摘China-US trade holds great significance for the world’s political and economic landscape.Since 2018,the US government has imposed additional tariffs on Chinese exports on the grounds of the US trade deficit with China.However,the transfer of pollutants embodied in trade and the differences in environmental costs between China and the US have not been widely recognized.In this study,we quantify the embodied carbon emissions(the'virtual'emissions associated with trade and consumption)in China-US trade by constructing a carbon dioxide emissions inventory and a multiregional input-output model.The study shows that the US benefits from a trade surplus of environmental costs by importing energy-intensive and pollutionintensive products from China,which increases China’s environmental pollution and abatement costs.In 2017,288 Mt CO2 emissions were associated with products produced in China but finally consumed in the US,and only 46 Mt CO2 were associated with the US products that were consumed in China.From this perspective,China-US trade results in a net transfer of 242 Mt CO2 per year from the US to China,accounting for approximately 5%of the total CO2 emissions in the US.More importantly,for Chinese products exported to the US,the carbon emissions embodied in one unit of economic value amount to 0.92 kg/$(RMB:USD=6.8:1),but for US products exported to China,the carbon emissions embodied in one unit of economic value amount to 0.53 kg/$,which means China will incur environmental costs that are 74%higher than those of the US while enjoying the same economic benefits.This environmental trade deficit has burdened China with higher environmental costs than economic benefits.To address this environmental trade deficit,China should actively promote further industrial upgrading and energy structure adjustment and increase investment in innovation and R&D,thereby increasing the value added per unit of export products and reducing the environmental cost of producing export products. | Zhu LIU Jing MENG Zhu DENG Ping LU Dabo GUAN Qiang ZHANG Kebin HE Peng GONG | 2020 | Science China Earth Sciences2020,63,10: | 2 |
