| 1 | Acute toxicity formation potential of benzophenone-type UV filters in chlorination disinfection process显示文摘Benzophenones(BPs) are a class of widely used UV filters, which have been frequently detected within multiple environmental matrices. Disinfection is a necessary process in water treatment processes. The transformation behaviors and toxicity changes of 14 BP-type UV filters during chlorination disinfection treatment were investigated in this study. A new index, the acute toxicity formation potential, was proposed to evaluate the toxicity changes and potential risks of BP-type UV filters during chlorination treatment. It was found that 13 of 14 BP-type UV filters exhibited toxicity decreases in the chlorination disinfection process, more or less, while one showed a toxicity increase. The toxicity changes were dependent on substitution effects, such that 2,4-di-hydroxylated or 3-hydroxylated BPs exhibited significant toxicity decreases after chlorination treatment due to the ready cleavage of the aromatic ring. | 2 | Bacterial diversity in activated sludge from a consecutively aerated submerged membrane bioreactor treating domestic wastewater显示文摘The bacterial diversity of activated sludge from submerged membrane bioreactor (SMBR) was investigated. A 16S rDNA clone library was generated, and 150 clones were screened using restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP). Of the screened clones, almost full-length 16S rDNA sequences of 64 clones were sequenced. Phylogenetic tree was constructed with a database containing clone sequences from this study and bacterial rDNA sequences from NCBI for identification purposes. The 90.6% of the clones were a?liated with the two phyla Bacteroidetes (50%) and Proteobacteria (40%), and β-, γ-, and δ-Proteobacteria accounted for 7.8%, 28.1%, and 4.7%, respectively. Minor portions were a?liated with the Actinobacteria and Firmicutes (both 3.1%). Only 6 out of 64 16S rDNA sequences exhibited similarities of more than 97% to classified bacterial species, which indicated that a substantial fraction of the clone sequences were derived from unknown taxa. Rarefaction analysis of operational taxonomic units (OTUs) clusters demonstrated that 150 clones screened were still insu?cient to describe the whole bacterial diversity. | 3 | Study on fish life history traits and variation in the Taiwan Strait and its adjacent waters显示文摘Large portions of the world's fishery resources are overexploited. Life history traits of fish species are important indicators to reveal different life history strategies and to indicate population responses to fishing pressures. For this study, empirical data on fishing grounds located in the coastal area between Fujian Coast and Taiwan Island were collected. These areas have experienced severe overfishing in the past 30 years, leading to changes in the structure and function of the fish communities. Fifty-one commercial fish species in this fishing ground were selected to study the life history traits. Using the life history traits, all the species were grouped into five different life history strategies by principle component analysis. More than 60% of the species were categorized in Group 5 that was similar to r-strategists. Twenty-five commercial species were selected for further analysis of changes in life history variables, and to discuss the population responses to exploitation. Results showed that most of the species appeared to become smaller size, shorter life, earlier maturation and faster growing under long-term exploitation. The exploitation rate of each species was also calculated to further discuss the impacts of fishing pressures to fish populations. Four species were found with the severest changes on life history traits indicating some of the species might be more susceptible to exploitation. | 7 | Studies on ecological characteristics variation and population dynamics of four lizardfishes in the southern Taiwan Straits显示文摘The ecological characteristics of four lizardfishes, Trachinocephalus myops, Saurida undosquamis, Saurida tumbil and Saurida elongata, were studied from specimens (910 T. myops, 454 S. un-dosquamis, 686 S. tumbil and 744 S. elongata) collected monthly in the southern Taiwan Straits from April 2005 to March 2006. The population dynamics of the four lizardfishes was also discussed by the comparison with the previous studies. All being composed of 7 a classes; the dominant group of T. myops and S. tumbil was 1-2 a, while S. undosquamis and S. elongate were 2-3 a. The total mortality coefficient Z and the fishing mortality F were at high as indicated by the exploitation ratio E(>0.5), and a large number of by-caught juvenile and young fishes showing that the stock of lizardfishes in this area was overexploited and the fishing gear was irrational. Compared with the previous studies, the maximum and mean fork length, body mass and age of the four lizard- fishes declined gradually, the lizardfishes populations were younger in age and smaller in size. The asymptotic fork length L ∞ decreased while increasing growth coefficient k, and age at the inflexion point of mass t r was younger compared with the previous studies. The declining of older ones has moderated the feeding competition and the younger ones grew faster. The larger mortality param-eters Z, M and F have revealed higher fishing pressure. The smaller change of the first mature fork length of female T . myops and the change from K selection pattern to r selection pattern of S. tumbil have indicated a more vulnerable fishery ecosystem in this area. The changes of ecological characteristics and population dynamics may be caused by over-exploitation of demersal fishes such as the lizardfishes, especially a large number of juvenile and young fishes by-catch by the current fishing gears and methods. | 8 | Self-incompatibility Characteristics of 34 Apricot Cultivars in Xinjiang显示文摘[Objective] This study aimed to explore the relationship between self-incompatibility strength and characteristics related to pollination and fertilization of different apricot varieties in Xinjiang. [Method] The pollen amount,pollen germination rate,pollen tube growth status and fruiting setting rate by self-pollination of 34 apricot cultivars in Xinjiang were determined,to analyze the self-incompatibility of different apricot cultivars. [Result] The average pollen amount per anther of 34 apricot cultivars was 1 213. 7,and the average pollen germination rate was 46. 0%. There were great differences in the self-incompatibility of different cultivars; most pollen tubes of the cultivars with high self-incompatibility stopped elongating at 1 /3 or 1 /2 part of the styles,and only a few pollen tubes of the cultivars with low self-incompatibility reached the ovary,and the normal fertilization ratio was significantly lower than that in self-compatible cultivars. [Conclusion]Among the 34 apricot cultivars,only 6 cultivars were self-compatible and the others exhibited gametophyte self-incompatibility. | 9 | Study on Dynamic Characteristics of the Growth and Development of Armeniaca dasycarpa(Ehrh.) Borkh显示文摘[Objective]This study aimed to analyze the dynamics of growth and development of Armeniaca dasycarpa( Ehrh.) Borkh fruit,thus providing the theoretical basis for cultivation and breeding of good-quality and high-yield A. dasycarpa. [Method] With A. dasycarpa cultivar Yechengzixing as the experimental material,P. cerasifera Ehrh cultivar Huangguoyingtaoli and A. vulgaris Lam. cultivars Luopuhongdaike,Wanshujianali and Kuchetuoyong as control,the vertical diameter,horizontal diameter and fresh weight of fruit and embryos were measured every 7 d during the growth and development period. [Result] The result showed that the whole fruit growth period of Yechengzixing,lasted 93 d from the end of flowering to fruit maturity. The dynamics of fruit vertical diameter,horizontal diameter and fresh weight of Yechengzixing presented'rapid-slow-rapid'double S-shaped curves. The whole fruit growth period of Yechengzixing could be divided approximately into three stages: first rapid growth stage,slow growth stage and second rapid growth stage,which lasted 29,42 and 21 d,respectively. Daily increment of fruit vertical diameter and horizontal diameter of Yechengzixing reached the maximum at the first rapid growth stage,while daily increment of fruit fresh weight reached the maximum at the second rapid growth stage. The dynamics of vertical diameter,horizontal diameter and fresh weight of Yechengzixing embryos presented S-shaped curves. Fruit growth and development dynamics of the tested materials presented double S-shaped curves. The whole fruit growth period of Yechengzixing,Huangguoyingtaoli and three apricot cultivars lasted 93,119 and 77- 98 d,respectively. Thus,the duration of fruit growth period of Yechengzixing was 26 d shorter than that of Huangguoyingtaoli and exhibited no significant difference compared with three apricot cultivars. The duration of each growth stage and daily increment of Yechengzixing fruit had no significant difference compared with three apricot cultivars. Moreover,Huangguoyingtaoli had a longer slow growth stage and lower daily increment than Yechengzixing.
