2The effects of fermentation and adsorption using lactic acid bacteria culture broth on the feed quality of rice straw显示文摘To improve the nutritional value and the palatability of air-dried rice straw, culture broth of the lactic acid bacteria community SFC-2 was used to examine the effects of two different treatments, fermentation and adsorption. Air-dried and chopped rice straw was treated with either fermentation for 30 d after adding 1.5 L nutrient solution(50 m L inocula L–1, 1.2×1012 CFU m L–1 inocula) kg–1 straw dry matter, or spraying a large amount of culture broth(1.5 L kg–1 straw dry matter, 1.5×1011 CFU m L–1 culture broth) on the straw and allowing it to adsorb for 30 min. The feed quality and aerobic stability of the resulting forage were examined. Both treatments improved the feed quality of rice straw, and adsorption was better than fermentation for preserving nutrients and improving digestibility, as evidenced by higher dry matter(DM) and crude protein(CP) concentrations, lower neutral detergent fiber(NDF), acid detergent fiber(ADF) and NH3-N concentrations, as well as higher lactic acid production and in vitro digestibility of DM(IVDMD). The aerobic stability of the adsorbed straw and the fermented straw was 392 and 480 h, respectively. 3Feedstock choice,pyrolysis temperature and type influence biochar characteristics:a comprehensive meta-data analysis review显示文摘Various studies have established that feedstock choice,pyrolysis temperature,and pyrolysis type influence final biochar physicochemical characteristics.However,overarching analyses of pre-biochar creation choices and correlations to biochar characteristics are severely lacking.Thus,the objective of this work was to help researchers,biochar-stakeholders,and practitioners make more well-informed choices in terms of how these three major parameters influence the final biochar product.Utilizing approximately 5400 peer-reviewed journal articles and over 50,800 individual data points,herein we elucidate the selections that influence final biochar physical and chemical properties,total nutrient content,and perhaps more importantly tools one can use to predict biochar’s nutrient availability.Based on the large dataset collected,it appears that pyrolysis type(fast or slow)plays a minor role in biochar physico-(inorganic)chemical characteristics;few differences were evident between production styles.Pyrolysis temperature,however,affects biochar’s longevity,with pyrolysis temperatures>500℃ generally leading to longer-term(i.e.,>1000 years)half-lives.Greater pyrolysis temperatures also led to biochars containing greater overall C and specific surface area(SSA),which could promote soil physico-chemical improvements.However,based on the collected data,it appears that feedstock selection has the largest influence on biochar properties.Specific surface area is greatest in wood-based biochars,which in combination with pyrolysis temperature could likely promote greater changes in soil physical characteristics over other feedstock-based biochars.Crop-and other grass-based biochars appear to have cation exchange capacities greater than other biochars,which in combination with pyrolysis temperature could potentially lead to longer-term changes in soil nutrient retention.The collected data also suggest that one can reasonably predict the availability of various biochar nutrients(e.g.,N,P,K,Ca,Mg,Fe,and Cu)based on feedstock choice and total nutrient content.Results can be used to create designer biochars to help solve environmental issues and supply a variety of plant-available nutrients for crop growth.James A.Ippolito Liqiang Cui Claudia Kammann Nicole Wrage‑Mönnig Jose MEstavillo Teresa Fuertes‑Mendizabal Maria Luz Cayuela Gilbert Sigua Jeff Novak Kurt Spokas Nils Borchard 2020Biochar2020,2,4:13

5A review of UHMWPE wear-induced osteolysis:the role for early detection of the immune response显示文摘In a world where increasing joint arthroplasties are being performed on increasingly younger patients,osteolysis as the leading cause of failure after total joint arthroplasty(TJA) has gained considerable attention.Ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene wear-induced osteolysis is the process by which prosthetic debris mechanically released from the surface of prosthetic joints induces an immune response that favors bone catabolism, resulting in loosening of prostheses with eventual failure or fracture. The immune response initiated is innate in that it is nonspecific and self-propagating, with monocytic cells and osteoclasts being the main effectors. To date, detecting disease early enough to implement effective intervention without unwanted systemic side effects has been a major barrier. These barriers can be overcome using newer in vivo imaging techniques and modules linked with fluorescence and/or chemotherapies. We discuss the pathogenesis of osteolysis, and provide discussion of the challenges with imaging and therapeutics. 6Age and menopausal status are important factors influencing the serum human epididymis secretory protein 4 level:a prospective cross-sectional study in healthy Chinese people显示文摘Background::Human epididymis secretory protein 4(HE4)is a new ovarian cancer biomarker.The factors influencing HE4 levels are not clear,and the reference data in China are limited.Here,we aim to evaluate the effects of menopause and age on HE4 levels and to provide a possible reference value for HE4 in healthy Chinese people.Methods::A total of 2493 healthy females aged 40 years or older were recruited from March 2013 to March 2017 with the cooperation of four medical institutions across Beijing,China.The serum levels of HE4 and cancer antigen 125(CA125)were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.The Wilcoxon rank-sum test of variance and a stratified analysis were used to analyze the relationships among age,menopausal status,and levels of HE4 or CA125.Confidence intervals(5%-95%)were determined for reference ranges in different populations.Results::There was a statistically significant difference in median HE4 levels between the post-menopausal(n=2168)and premenopausal groups(n=325)(36.46 vs.24.04 pmol/L,Z=-14.41,P<0.001).HE4 increased significantly with age in the post-menopausal groups(H=408.18,P<0.001)but not in the pre-menopausal subjects(Z=-0.43,P=0.67).The upper 95th percentile of HE4 levels were 44.63 pmol/L for pre-menopausal women,78.17 pmol/L for post-menopausal women,and 73.3 pmol/L for all women.In the post-menopausal population,the HE4 reference ranges were 13.15 to 47.31,14.31 to 58.04,17.06 to 73.51,24.50 to 115.25,and 35.71 to 212.37 pmol/L for different age groups from forty divided by decade.The CA125 level was affected mainly by menopausal status and not age.Conclusions::Menopausal status and age were both important factors influencing the level of HE4,and age affected HE4 levels mainly in post-menopausal women.The HE4 level was higher in the post-menopausal population than in the pre-menopausal population and increased with age.Hong-Yan Cheng Lin Zeng Xue Ye Rui-Qiong M a Zhi-Jian Tang Hong-Ling Chu Yi-M ing Zhao Li-Rong Zhu Yu-Nong Gao Xiao-Hong Chang Heng Cui 2020Chinese Medical Journal2020,,11:6
7Current evidence on potential of adipose derived stem cells to enhance bone regeneration and future projection显示文摘Injuries to the postnatal skeleton are naturally repaired through successive stepsinvolving specific cell types in a process collectively termed “bone regeneration”.Although complex, bone regeneration occurs through a series of well-orchestratedstages wherein endogenous bone stem cells play a central role. In most situations,bone regeneration is successful;however, there are instances when it fails andcreates non-healing injuries or fracture nonunion requiring surgical or therapeuticinterventions. Transplantation of adult or mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) definedby the International Society for Cell and Gene Therapy (ISCT) as CD105+-CD90+CD73+CD45-CD34-CD14orCD11b-CD79αorCD19-HLA-DR- is beinginvestigated as an attractive therapy for bone regeneration throughout the world.MSCs isolated from adipose tissue, adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs), aregaining increasing attention since this is the most abundant source of adult stemcells and the isolation process for ADSCs is straightforward. Currently, there isnot a single Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved ADSCs product forbone regeneration. Although the safety of ADSCs is established from their usagein numerous clinical trials, the bone-forming potential of ADSCs and MSCs, ingeneral, is highly controversial. Growing evidence suggests that the ISCT definedphenotype may not represent bona fide osteoprogenitors. Transplantation of bothADSCs and the CD105- sub-population of ADSCs has been reported to induce bone regeneration. Most notably, cells expressing other markers such as CD146,AlphaV, CD200, PDPN, CD164, CXCR4, and PDGFRα have been shown torepresent osteogenic sub-population within ADSCs. Amongst other strategies toimprove the bone-forming ability of ADSCs, modulation of VEGF, TGF-β1 andBMP signaling pathways of ADSCs has shown promising results.
