2VX-765 reduces neuroinflammation after spinal cord injury in mice显示文摘Inflammation is a major cause of neuronal injury after spinal cord injury. We hypothesized that inhibiting caspase-1 activation may reduce neuroinflammation after spinal cord injury, thus producing a protective effect in the injured spinal cord. A mouse model of T9 contusive spinal cord injury was established using an Infinite Horizon Impactor, and VX-765, a selective inhibitor of caspase-1, was administered for 7 successive days after spinal cord injury. The results showed that:(1) VX-765 inhibited spinal cord injury-induced caspase-1 activation and interleukin-1β and interleukin-18 secretion.(2) After spinal cord injury, an increase in M1 cells mainly came from local microglia rather than infiltrating macrophages.(3) Pro-inflammatory Th1 Th17 cells were predominant in the Th subsets. VX-765 suppressed total macrophage infiltration, M1 macrophages/microglia, Th1 and Th1 Th17 subset differentiation, and cytotoxic T cells activation;increased M2 microglia;and promoted Th2 and Treg differentiation.(4) VX-765 reduced the fibrotic area, promoted white matter myelination, alleviated motor neuron injury, and improved functional recovery. These findings suggest that VX-765 can reduce neuroinflammation and improve nerve function recovery after spinal cord injury by inhibiting caspase-1/interleukin-1β/interleukin-18. This may be a potential strategy for treating spinal cord injury. 3Copper single-atom catalysts with photothermal performance and enhanced nanozyme activity for bacteria-infected wound therapy显示文摘Nanozymes have become a new generation of antibiotics with exciting broad-spectrum antibacterial properties and negligible biological toxicity.However,their inherent low catalytic activity limits their antibacterial properties.Herein,Cu single-atom sites/N doped porous carbon(Cu SASs/NPC)is successfully constructed for photothermal-catalytic antibacterial treatment by a pyrolysis-etching-adsorption-pyrolysis(PEAP)strategy.Cu SASs/NPC have stronger peroxidase-like catalytic activity,glutathione(GSH)-depleting function,and photothermal property compared with non-Cu-doped NPC,indicating that Cu doping significantly improves the catalytic performance of nanozymes.Cu SASs/NPC can effectively induce peroxidase-like activity in the presence of H2O2,thereby generating a large amount of hydroxyl radicals(•OH),which have a certain killing effect on bacteria and make bacteria more susceptible to temperature.The introduction of near-infrared(NIR)light can generate hyperthermia to fight bacteria,and enhance the peroxidase-like catalytic activity,thereby generating additional•OH to destroy bacteria.Interestingly,Cu SASs/NPC can act as GSH peroxidase(GSH-Px)-like nanozymes,which can deplete GSH in bacteria,thereby significantly improving the sterilization effect.PTT-catalytic synergistic antibacterial strategy produces almost 100%antibacterial efficiency against Escherichia coli(E.coli)and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus(MRSA).In vivo experiments show a better PTT-catalytic synergistic therapeutic performance on MRSA-infected mouse wounds.Overall,our work highlights the wide antibacterial and anti-infective bio-applications of Cu single-atom-containing catalysts.Xianwen Wang Qianqian Shi Zhengbao Zha Dongdong Zhu Lirong Zheng Luoxiang Shi Xianwen Wei Lian Lian Konglin Wu Liang Cheng 2021Bioactive Materials2021,6,12:6
4Key determinants of misdiagnosis of tracheobronchial tuberculosis among senile patients in contemporary clinical practice:A retrospective analysis显示文摘BACKGROUND Tracheobronchial tuberculosis(TBTB)is a common subtype of pulmonary tuberculosis.Concomitant diseases often obscure the diagnosis of senile TBTB.AIM To characterize senile patients with TBTB and to identify the potential causes of misdiagnosis.METHODS One hundred twenty patients with senile TBTB who were admitted to the Anhui Chest hospital between May 2017 and May 2019 were retrospectively analyzed.Patients were classified as diagnosed group(n=58)and misdiagnosed group(n=62).Clinical manifestations,laboratory results,radiographic data,and endoscopic findings were compared between the two groups.RESULTS Patients in the misdiagnosed group were most commonly diagnosed as pulmonary tuberculosis(non-TBTB,29/62,46.8%),general pneumonia(9/62,14.5%),chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(8/62,12.9%),and tracheobronchial carcinoma(7/62,11.3%).The time elapsed between disease onset and confirmation of diagnosis was significantly longer in the misdiagnosed group[median(first quartile,third quartile):6.32(4.94,16.02)mo vs 3.73(2.37,8.52)mo].The misdiagnosed group had lower proportion of patients who underwent bronchoscopy[33.87%(21/62)vs 87.93%(51/58)],chest computed tomography(CT)scan[69.35%(43/62)vs 98.28%(57/58)],and those who showed CT signs of tuberculosis[27.91%(12/62)vs 50%(29/58)]as compared to that in the diagnosed group(P<0.05).There were no significant between-group differences with respect to age,gender,occupation,clinical manifestations,or prevalence of comorbid chronic diseases(P>0.05).CONCLUSION Insufficient or inaccurate radiographic or bronchoscopic assessment was the predominant cause of delayed diagnosis of TBTB.Increased implementation and better interpretation of CT scan and early implementation of bronchoscopy can help reduce misdiagnosis of senile TBTB.Fei Tang Lian-Jun Lin Shu-Liang Guo Wei Ye Xian-Kui Zha Yu Cheng Ying-Feng Wu Yue-Ming Wang Xiao-Mei Lyu Xiao-Yun Fan Li-Ping Lyu 2021World Journal of Clinical Cases2021,9,25:6
5Alloying design and microstructural control strategies towards developing Mg alloys with enhanced ductility显示文摘Nowadays,magnesium(Mg)alloys are promising lightweight structural materials,especially in transportation and aerospace fields,due to their inherent low density and high specific strength.Most of the high-strength Mg alloys exhibit poor formability and ductility at room temperature,which limit their wide applications.However,by proper alloying design and/or delicate microstructural control,some newly developed Mg alloys,including rare-earth(RE)and RE-free ones,show enhanced ductility without significant loss of strength.To identify the critical reasons,recent researches on ductile Mg alloys have been reviewed from the aspects of alloying design strategies and microstructural control via advanced processing technologies.Moreover,some outlooks on enhanced ductility of Mg alloys are suggested,e.g.enhancing the beneficial effect of solute atoms,introducing second phase particles,tailoring bimodal-grained structures,introducing pre-twinning structures,etc.The current research progresses in alloying design and/or novel microstructural control have shed some lights on designing and producing Mg alloys with enhanced ductility.Zhong-Zheng Jin Min Zha Si-Qing Wang Shi-Chao Wang Cheng Wang Hai-Long Jia Hui-Yuan Wang 2022Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2022,10,5:5
6Effects of Mg17Al12 second phase particles on twinning-induced recrystallization behavior in Mg–Al–Zn alloys during gradient hot rolling显示文摘This study aims to investigate the promotion effect of twinning-induced nucleation vs the inhibition effect of Mgi7Ali2 particles pinning for recrystallization, achieved through gradient rolling for Mg-3Al-lZn (AZ31) and Mg-9Al-lZn (AZ91) alloys as well as pure Mg. Through gradient rolling, a transition zone from the initial to deformed microstructure undergoing varying thickness reductions was obtained in the same sample, where the evolution of deformation twins and second phase can be examined precisely and continuously. During hot deformation, dynamic recrystallized (DRXed) grains tended to originate from {10 T 1 }-{10 T 2} double twins, whose nucleation was significantly restricted by increasing A1 content and hence recrystallization can be rarely triggered in AZ91 alloy. Concurrently, the size and volume fraction of Mgi7Ali2 particles changed via dissolution and re-precipitation, leading to finer average size and higher volume fraction, which produced stronger pinning effect and hindered dynamic recrystallization significantly. 7Optical properties and chemical composition of PM_(2.5) in Shanghai in the spring of 2012显示文摘The semi-diurnal mean aerosol mass concentration, chemical composition, and optical properties of PM2.5were investigated in Shanghai during the spring of 2012. Slight pollution was observed during the study period. The average PM2.5 concentration was 64.11 土 22.83(xg/m3. The mean coefficients of extinction,scattering, and absorption at 532 nm were 125.9 士 78.5,91.1 士 56.3,and 34.9 士 23.6 Mm-1, respectively. A relatively low mean single scattering albedo at 532 nm(0.73 士 0.04) and low level of elemental carbon(EC,2.67 士 1.96 |xg/m3) suggested that the light absorption was enhanced due to the internal mixing of the EC.Sulfate contributed the most to aerosol light scattering in Shanghai. The chemical composition of PM2.5was dominated by particulate organic matter, sulfate, nitrate, ammonium, and EC. Anthropogenic sources made a significant contribution to the emission and loading of the particulate pollutants. 11High-permittivity polymer nanocomposites: Influence of interface on dielectric properties显示文摘Flexible dielectric composites with high permittivity have been extensively studied due to their potential applications in highdensity energy capacitors.In this review,effects of interface characteristics on the dielectric properties in the polymer-based nanocomposites with high permittivity are analyzed.The polymer-based dielectric composites are classified into two types:dielectric–dielectric(DD,ceramic particle-polymer)composites and conductor–dielectric(CD,conductive particle-polymer)composites.It is highly desirable for the dielectric–dielectric composites to exhibit high permittivity at low content of ceramic particles,which requires a remarkable interface interaction existing in the composite.For conductor–dielectric composites,a high permittivity can be achieved in composite with a small amount of conductor particle,but associated with a high loss.In this case,the interface between conductor and polymer with a good insulating characteristic is very important.Different methods can be used to modify the surface of ceramic/conductor particles before these particles are dispersed into polymers.The experimental results are summarized on how to design and make the desirable interface,and recent achievements in the development of these nanocomposites are presented.The challenges facing the fundamental understanding on the role of interface in high-permittivity polymer nanocomposites should be paid a more attention.Zhi-Min Dang Jin-Kai Yuan Jun-Wei Zha Peng-Hao Hu Dong-Rui Wang Zhong-Yang Cheng 2013Journal of Advanced Dielectrics2013,3,3:3
12Mixing planting proportions in a plantation affects functional traits and biomass allocation of Cunninghamia lanceolata and Phoebe bournei seedlings显示文摘Functional traits of trees are significantly associated with their adaptation strategies and productivity.However,the effects of species composition and mixing proportion on the functional traits of trees grown in mixed plantations have not been studied extensively.In this study,planting experiments(duration about seven months)were used to study variations in functional traits and biomass allocation of C unninghamia lanceolata(Lamb.)Hook and Phoebe bournei(Hemsley)Yang seedlings in five different mixes(0C:4P,1C:3P,1C:1P,3C:1P,and 4C:0P).Total leaf area per seedling increased in each species as its respective proportion in the mixture decreased.However,the specific leaf area decreased for P.bournei under low percent composition,and the specific leaf area for C.lanceolata differed only marginally among the plantings.The net photosynthetic rates of the two species were higher in the mixed plantings than in their corresponding monocultures,whereas the transpiration rate,stomatal conductance,and instantaneous water use efficiency were not different among the plantings.The average root length and root surface area of C.lanceolata and P.bournei were higher in the mixed plantings than in their monocultures.Specifically,root surface area of C.lanceolate and both root length and surface area of P.bournei increased significantly in the 1C:3P and 2C:2P mixed plantings.Leaf,stem,root,and total dry mass per seedling for C.lanceolata decreased with its increasing percent composition in the mixed plantings,while these variables varied less for P.bournei.The plasticity of biomass allocation was relatively low for both species.Total biomass per planting was higher in the mixed plantings than in the monocultures.Our study indicates that species composition and mixing proportion can considerably affect the functional traits of C.lanceolata and P.bournei.The increase in productivity in the mixed plantings may be partially attributed to low rates of competition between the two species,and future studies should examine the different interspecies relationships.The results of this study can be used to improve plantation productivity and ultimately increase the sustainability of tree products and help to better understand the adaptation strategies of plant coexistence.Meiqin Zha Youzhi Han Xiangrong Cheng 2022Journal of Forestry Research2022,33,6:3
13Galactosylated chitosan/5-fluorouracil nanoparticles inhibit mouse hepatic cancer growth and its side effects显示文摘AIM:To observe the curative effect of galactosylated chitosan(GC)/5-fluorouracil(5-FU) nanoparticles in liver caner mice and its side effects.METHODS:The GC/5-FU nanoparticle is a nanomaterial made by coupling GC and 5-FU.The release experiment was performed in vitro.The orthotropic liver cancer mouse models were established and divided into control,GC,5-FU and GC/5-FU groups.Mice in the control and GC group received an intravenous injection of 200 L saline and GC,respectively.Mice in the 5-FU and GC/5-FU groups received 200 L(containing 0.371 mg 5-FU) 5-FU and GC/5-FU,respectively.The tumor weight and survival time were observed.The cell cycle and apoptosis in tumor tissues were monitored by flow cytometry.The expression of p53,Bax,Bcl-2,caspase-3 and poly adenosine 50-diphosphate-ribose polymerase 1(PARP-1) was detected by immunohistochemistry,reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction and Western blot.The serum blood biochemical parameters and cytotoxic activity of natural killer(NK) cell and cytotoxicity T lymphocyte(CTL) were measured.RESULTS:The GC/5-FU nanoparticle is a sustained release system.The drug loading was 6.12% ± 1.36%,the encapsulation efficiency was 81.82% ± 5.32%,and the Zeta potential was 10.34 ± 1.43 mV.The tumor weight in the GC/5-FU group(0.4361 ± 0.1153 g vs 1.5801 ± 0.2821 g,P < 0.001) and the 5-FU(0.7932 ± 0.1283 g vs 1.5801 ± 0.2821 g,P < 0.001) was significantly lower than that in the control group;GC/5FU treatment can significantly lower the tumor weight(0.4361 ± 0.1153 g vs 0.7932 ± 0.1283 g,P < 0.001),and the longest median survival time was seen in the GC/5-FU group,compared with the control(12 d vs 30 d,P < 0.001),GC(13 d vs 30 d,P < 0.001) and 5-FU groups(17 d vs 30 d,P < 0.001).Flow cytometry revealed that compared with the control,GC/5FU caused a higher rate of G0-G1 arrest(52.79% ± 13.42% vs 23.92% ± 9.09%,P = 0.014) and apoptosis(2.55% ± 1.10% vs 11.13% ± 11.73%,P < 0.001) in hepatic cancer cells.Analysis of the apoptosis pathways showed that GC/5-FU upregulated the expression of p53 at both the protein and the mRNA levels,which in turn lowered the ratio of Bcl-2/Bax expression;this led to the release of cytochrome C into the cytosol from the mitochondria and the subsequent activation of caspase-3.Upregulation of caspase-3 expression decreased the PARP-1 at both the mRNA and the protein levels,which contributed to apoptosis.5-FU increased the levels of aspartate aminotransferase and alanine aminotransferase,and decreased the numbers of platelet,white blood cell and lymphocyte and cytotoxic activities of CTL and NK cells,however,there were no such side effects in the GC/5-FU group.CONCLUSION:GC/5-FU nanoparticles can significantly inhibit the growth of liver cancer in mice via the p53 apoptosis pathway,and relieve the side effects and immunosuppression of 5-FU.Ming-Rong Cheng Qing Li Tao Wan Bing He Jiang Han Hou-Xiang Chen Feng-Xiao Yang Wei Wang Hong-Zhi Xu Tao Ye Bing-Bing Zha 2012World Journal of Gastroenterology2012,18,42:2
14Correlation between cold and hot pattern in traditional Chinese medicine and gene expression profiles in rheumatoid arthritis显示文摘Clinical manifestations of rheumatoid arthritis(RA)are diversified,and based on the manifestations,the patients with RA could be classified into different patterns under traditional Chinese medicine.These patterns decide the selection of herbal prescription,and thus they can help find a subset of rheumatoid arthritis patients for a type of therapy.In the present study,we combine genome-wide expression analysis with methods of systems biology to identify the functional gene networks for the sets of clinical symptoms that comprise the major information for pattern classification.Clinical manifestations in rheumatoid arthritis were clustered with factor analysis,and two factors(similar to cold and hot patterns in traditional Chinese medicine)were found.Microarray technology was used to reveal gene expression profiles in CD4^(+)T cells from 21 rheumatoid arthritis patients.Protein-protein interaction information for these genes from databases and literature data was searched.The highly-connected regions were detected to infer significant complexes or pathways in this protein-protein interaction network.The significant pathways and function were extracted from these subnetworks using the Biological Network Gene Ontology tool.The genes significantly related to hot and cold patterns were identified by correlations analysis.MAPK signalling pathway,Wnt signaling pathway,and insulin signaling pathway were found to be related to hot pattern.Purine metabolism was related to both hot and cold patterns.Alanine,aspartate,and tyrosine metabolism were related to cold pattern,and histindine metabolism and lysine degradation were related to hot pattern.The results suggest that cold and hot patterns in traditional Chinese medicine were related to different pathways,and the network analysis might be used for identifying the pattern classification in other diseases.Miao Jiang Cheng Xiao Gao Chen Cheng Lu Qinglin Zha Xiaoping Yan Weiping Kong Shijie Xu Dahong Ju Pu Xu Youwen Zou Aiping Lu 2011Frontiers of Medicine2011,5,2:2
15Individual and joint effects of borderline ankle-brachial index and high plasma total homocysteine on all-cause death in hypertensive adults显示文摘BACKGROUND The cardiovascular hazards of total homocysteine(tHcy)are long known.In addition,despite the acknow-ledgment on the importance of low ankle-brachial index(ABI)(<0.9),borderline ABI(0.91-0.99)was once commonly overlooked.This study aims to explore the independent and joint effect of tHcy level and borderline ABI on all-cause death in hypertensive population.METHODS This study included 10,538 participants from China H-type Hypertension Registry Study.ABI was described into two groups:normal ABI(1.00-1.40)and borderline ABI.tHcy level was also divided into two groups:<15.02 and≥15.02μmo/L.Four groups were analyzed,using COX proportional hazard regression model,separately and pairwise to observe the independ-ent and joint effect on all-cause death.RESULTS A total of 126(1.2%)deaths were observed in the 1.7 years follow-up time.Borderline ABI has a higher predicted risk of death than normal ABI(HR=1.87,95%CI:1.17-3.00)after adjusting for potential covariates.Compare with tHcy level<15.02μmo/L(low tHcy),those with tHcy≥15.02μmo/L(high tHcy)had higher risk to event outcome(HR=1.99,95%CI:1.30-3.05).According to the cumulative hazard curve,group with borderline ABI and high tHcy level has significantly higher altitude and larger increasing rate over follow-up period compare to other groups.Among those with borderline ABI,participants with high tHcy had higher death risk than those with low tHcy,nevertheless,no significant different between borderline and normal ABI among those with low tHcy levels.CONCLUSIONS Borderline ABI and tHcy level both have independent predictive value on all-cause death.The combined group of borderline ABI and high tHcy has highest risk factor of outcomes,which suggested the mutual additive value of border-line ABI and tHcy.More attention should be given to the importance of borderline ABI in hypertensive population,especially with elevated tHcy level.Jun-Pei LI Tian-Yu CAO Xiao-Yuan ZHA Yun YU Zi-Heng TAN Zai-Hua CHENG Hua-Bo YING Wei ZHOU Lin-Juan ZHU Tao WANG Li-Shun LIU Hui-Hui BAO Xiao HUANG Xiao-Shu CHENG 2022Journal of Geriatric Cardiology2022,19,7:1
16Space Charge Suppression of Polyethylene Induced by Blending with Ethylene-butyl Acrylate Copolymer显示文摘High-voltage direct current(HVDC)power cables have been paid more attention due to the big issue concerning the main insulation materials.The residues in the industrial production process will cause space charge generation and accumulation in the materials,which has become one bottleneck to limit the development of power cables up to higher voltage levels.In this paper,the LDPE matrix was modified by three types of ethylene-butyl acrylate(EBA)copolymers(1.0 wt%)with different polarities(BA content)via melt blending to optimize the space charge behavior of the LDPE insulation.The micromorphology and structure of the blends are examined by polarized light microscope and differential scanning calorimetry.The space charge distribution is tested by the pulsed electro-acoustic method.The trap level is studied by the thermally stimulated current.The results show that EBA introduces more deep traps and decreases the shallow traps.The medium-polar EBA(16%BA content)can effectively suppress charge accumula-tion,and have the same suppressed effect on XLPE/EBA blends.This study will provide important insights into the design and development of advanced HVDC power cable applications.Jintao Zhai Weikang Li Junwei Zha Qi Cheng Xingming Bian Zhimin Dang 2020CSEE Journal of Power and Energy Systems2020,6,1:1

18Severe fundus lesions induced by ocular jellyfish stings: A case report显示文摘BACKGROUND Globally,although the jellyfish population has increased in recent years,ocular jellyfish stings remain an uncommon ophthalmic emergency,and have been rarely reported.According to a few previous reports,ocular jellyfish stings may cause anterior segment disorders,and most of these injuries were self-limited and spontaneously resolved within 24 to 48 h.CASE SUMMARY A brother and sister both presented with severe fundus complications several years after ocular jellyfish stings and both had prolonged blurred vision.To our knowledge,such fundus lesions induced by jellyfish stings have not been reported previously.CONCLUSION The fundus status of patients following ocular jellyfish stings should be carefully monitored in cases of irreversible ocular damage.Xiang-Yue Zheng De-Jin Cheng Li-Hua Lian Ru-Ting Zha ng Xiao-Yi Yu 2020World Journal of Clinical Cases2020,8,19:1
