| 4 | Chemical characteristics of fine particles and their impact on visibility impairment in Shanghai based on a 1-year period observation显示文摘In this work, a one-year observation focusing on high time resolution characteristics of components in fine particles was conducted at an urban site in Shanghai. Contributions of different components on visibility impairment were also studied. Our research indicates that the major components of PM_(2.5) in Shanghai are water-soluble inorganic ions and carbonaceous aerosol, accounting for about 60% and 30% respectively. Higher concentrations of sulfate(SO42-) and organic carbon(OC) in PM_(2.5) occurred in fall and summer, while higher concentrations of nitrate(NO_3^-) were observed in winter and spring. The mass concentrations of Cl^- and K^+ were higher in winter. Moreover, NO_3^- increased significantly during PM_(2.5) pollution episodes. The high values observed for the sulfate oxidizing rate(SOR), nitrate oxidizing rate(NOR) and secondary organic carbon(SOC) in OC indicate that photochemical reactions were quite active in Shanghai. The IMPROVE(Interagency Monitoring of Protected Visual Environments) formula was used in this study to investigate the contributions of individual PM_(2.5) chemical components to the light extinction efficient in Shanghai. Both NH_4NO_3 and(NH_4)_2SO_4 had close relationships with visibility impairment in Shanghai. | 5 | Methylation of Dickkopf-3 as a prognostic factor in cirrhosis-related hepatocellular carcinoma显示文摘AIM:To investigate the prevalence and time of Dickkopf(DKK) family methylation and its clinical significance in hepatocarcinogenesis. METHODS:Methylation of DKK family genes was quantitatively analyzed in 115 liver tissue samples,including 50 pairs of primary hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) and matched noncancerous cirrhotic tissue samples,as well as 15 liver cirrhosis biopsy samples. RESULTS:The methylation level of DKK3 was significantly higher in HCC tissue samples than in matched noncancerous cirrhotic tissue samples(P<0.0001) orin liver cirrhosis biopsy samples(P=0.0139) .Receiver operator characteristic curve analysis confirmed that the percent of methylated reference(PMR) values of DKK3 could effectively discriminate HCC tissue samples from noncancerous tissue samples(AUC=0.8146) or liver cirrhosis biopsy samples(AUC=0.7093) .Kaplan-Meier survival curves revealed that the progression-free survival time of patients with a higher DKK3 methylation level(PMR >1%) was significantly shorter than that of those with a lower DKK3 methylation level(PMR≤1%)(P=0.0255) . Multivariate Cox analysis indicated that methylated DKK3 was significantly and independently related with a shorter survival time(relative risk=2.527,95%CI:1.063-6.008,P=0.036) of HCC patients. | 6 | A structural view of the antibiotic degradation enzyme NDM-1 from a superbug显示文摘Gram-negative Enterobacteriaceae with resistance to carbapenem conferred by New Delhi metallo-β-lactamase 1(NDM-1)are a type of newly discovered antibioticresistant bacteria.The rapid pandemic spread of NDM-1 bacteria worldwide(spreading to India,Pakistan,Europe,America,and Chinese Taiwan)in less than 2 months characterizes these microbes as a potentially major global health problem.The drug resistance of NDM-1 bacteria is largely due to plasmids containing the blaNDM-1 gene shuttling through bacterial populations.The NDM-1 enzyme encoded by the blaNDM-1 gene hydrolyzes β-lactam antibiotics,allowing the bacteria to escape the action of antibiotics.Although the biological functions and structural features of NDM-1 have been proposed according to results from functional and structural investigation of its homologues,the precise molecular characteristics and mechanism of action of NDM-1 have not been clarified.Here,we report the threedimensional structure of NDM-1 with two catalytic zinc ions in its active site.Biological and mass spectroscopy results revealed that D-captopril can effectively inhibit the enzymatic activity of NDM-1 by binding to its active site with high binding affinity.The unique features concerning the primary sequence and structural conformation of the active site distinguish NDM-1 from other reported metallo-β-lactamases(MBLs)and implicate its role in wide spectrum drug resistance.We also discuss the molecular mechanism of NDM-1 action and its essential role in the pandemic of drug-resistant NDM-1 bacteria.Our results will provide helpful information for future drug discovery targeting drug resistance caused by NDM-1 and related metallo-β-lactamases. | Yu Guo Jing Wang Guojun Niu Wenqing Shui Yuna Sun Honggang Zhou Yaozhou Zhang Cheng Yang Zhiyong Lou Zihe Rao | 2011 | Protein & Cell2011,2,5: | 16 |
| 7 | Role of ethylene signaling in the production of rice volatiles induced by the rice brown planthopper Nilaparvata lugens显示文摘Ethylene signaling pathway plays an important role in induced plant direct defense against herbivores and pathogens; however, up to now, only few researches have focused on its role in induced plant indirect defense, i.e. the release of herbi- vore-induced volatiles, and the results are variable. Using a model system consisting of rice plants, the rice brown planthopper Nilaparvata lugens and its egg parasitoid Anagrus nilaparvatae, we examined the role of ethylene signaling in the production of rice volatiles induced by N. lugens by measuring both the timing of herbivore-induced ethylene levels and the relationships between ethylene, rice volatiles and attraction of the parasitoid. N. lugens infestation sig- nificantly enhanced the release of ethylene during 2―24 h after infestation. Plants treated with eth- ephon, a compound that breaks down to release ethylene at cytoplasmic pH, released volatiles profiles similar to those released by N. lugens-infested plants, and both of them showed an equal attraction of the parasitoid. Moreover, pretreatment with 1-MCP, an inhibitor of ethylene perception, reduced the release of most of rice volatiles whose amount was enhanced by N. lugens infestation and decreased the attrac- tiveness to the parasitoid. | 9 | The chemosensory protein of Chinese honeybee, Apis cerana cerana: Molecular cloning of cDNA, immunocytochemical localization and expression显示文摘Chemosensory proteins (CSPs) are ubiquitous soluble small proteins isolated from sensory organs thought to be involved in chemical communication. Here we report the first cDNA of CSPs, called Ac-ASP3, cloned and characterized from antennas of adult worker bees in Chinese honeybee, Apis cerana cerana. The Ac-ASP3 cDNA comprises 2 exons, with an ORF of 393-bp encoding 130 aa. Protein signature analyses show that the protein consists of four conserved cysteines and a signal peptide with 19 aa in the N-terminal sequence. The deduced protein sequence shares high homology with Am-ASP3 of Apis mellifera and low similarity with other species of insects. Immunocytochemical localization shows that Ac-ASP3 is only specifically expressed on the antenna contact chemosensilla such as sensilla trichodea B and sensilla basiconica, whereas Ac-ASP3 is scarcely expressed on olfactory chemosensilla such as sensilla placodea. Real-time PCR of Ac-ASP3 transcripts shows that Ac-ASP3 is highly expressed on wings and legs, but expression is lower on antenna. Temporal expression patterns suggest that Ac-ASP3 is expressed during the period of pupa and adults from 1-d to 6-d stages when bees act as house bees, cleaning the comb and taking care of the queen and larvae in comb. The above evidence suggests that Ac-ASP3 is unique in species and is generally not involved in olfaction during searching for honey and pollen. | 10 | Ultrafine particle emission characteristics of diesel engine by on-board and test bench measurement显示文摘This study investigated the emission characteristics of ultrafine particles based on test bench and on-board measurements. The bench test results showed the ultrafine particle number concentration of the diesel engine to be in the range of (0.56-8.35)×10 8cm-3. The on-board measurement results illustrated that the ultrafine particles were strongly correlated with changes in real-world driving cycles. The particle number concentration was down to 2.0×106cm-3 and 2.7×107cm-3 under decelerating and idling operations and as high as 5.0×108cm-3 under accelerating operation. It was also indicated that the particle number measured by the two methods increased with the growth of engine load at each engine speed in both cases. The particle number presented a 'U' shaped distribution with changing speed at high engine load conditions, which implies that the particle number will reach its lowest level at medium engine speeds. The particle sizes of both measurements showed single mode distributions. The peak of particle size was located at about 50-80nm in the accumulation mode particle range. An actively tunable absorption bandwidth and peak resonant wavelength in the region from the near-to mid-infrared (NMIR) are simultaneously achieved with the insulating.metallic phase transition ofVO2·Moreover, the scalable unit cell,which is composed of multi-width sub-cells, provides a new freedom to further manipulate (i.e., broaden or narrow) the absorption bandwidth while maintaining a high relative absorption bandwidth and efficient absorbance at the same time. | 13 | Do vehicular emissions dominate the source of C6–C8 aromatics in the megacity Shanghai of eastern China?显示文摘The characteristic ratios of volatile organic compounds(VOCs) to i-pentane, the indicator of vehicular emissions, were employed to apportion the vehicular and non-vehicular contributions to reactive species in urban Shanghai. Two kinds of tunnel experiments, one tunnel with more than 90% light duty gasoline vehicles and the other with more than 60% light duty diesel vehicles, were carried out to study the characteristic ratios of vehicle-related emissions from December 2009 to January 2010. Based on the experiments, the characteristic ratios of C6–C8aromatics to i-pentane of vehicular emissions were 0.53 ± 0.08(benzene), 0.70 ± 0.12(toluene),0.41 ± 0.09(m,p-xylenes), 0.16 ± 0.04(o-xylene), 0.023 ± 0.011(styrene), and 0.15 ± 0.02(ethylbenzene), respectively. The source apportionment results showed that around 23.3% of C6–C8 aromatics in urban Shanghai were from vehicular emissions, which meant that the non-vehicular emissions had more importance. These findings suggested that emission control of non-vehicular sources, i.e. industrial emissions, should also receive attention in addition to the control of vehicle-related emissions in Shanghai. The chemical removal of VOCs during the transport from emissions to the receptor site had a large impact on the apportionment results. | 16 | Tribological evaluation of environmentally friendly ionic liquids derived from renewable biomaterials显示文摘Unlike most of the conventional ionic liquids(ILs) derived from non-renewable resources, five environmentally friendly ILs([Ch][AA] ILs) derived from amino acids(AAs) and choline(Ch) were synthesized using biomaterials by a simple, green route: acid–base reaction of Ch and AAs. The thermal and corrosion properties, as well as viscosity, of the prepared ILs were examined. The results revealed that the anion structure of ILs plays a dominant role in their thermal and viscosity behavior. These ILs exhibited less corrosion toward copper, related to their halogen-, sulfur-, and phosphorus-free characteristics. The tribological behavior of the synthesized ILs was examined using a Schwingungs Reibung und Verschleiss tester, and the results indicated that these ILs exhibit good friction-reducing and anti-wear properties as lubricants for steel/steel contact. | 17 | Conceptual design studies of the 5 m terahertz antenna for Dome A, Antarctica显示文摘As the highest,coldest and driest place in Antarctica,Dome A provides exceptionally good observing conditions for ground-based observations over terahertz wavebands.The 5 m Dome A Terahertz Explorer(DATE5)has been proposed to explore new terahertz windows,primarily over wavelengths between 350 and 200μm.DATE5 will be an open-air,fully-steerable telescope that can function by unmanned operation with remote control.The telescope will be able to endure the harsh polar environment,including high altitude,very low temperature and very low air pressure.The unique specifications,including high accuracies for surface shape and pointing and fully automatic year-around remote operation,along with a stringent limit on the periods of on-site assembly,testing and maintenance,bring a number of challenges to the design,construction,assembly and operation of this telescope.This paper introduces general concepts related to the design of the DATE5 antenna.Beginning from an overview of the environmental and operational limitations,the design specifications and requirements of the DATE5 antenna are listed.From these,major aspects on the conceptual design studies,including the antenna optics,the backup structure,the panels,the subreflector,the mounting and the antenna base structure,are explained.Some critical issues of performance are justified through analyses that use computational fluid dynamics,thermal analysis and de-icing studies,and the proposed approaches for test operation and on-site assembly.Based on these studies,we conclude that the specifications of the DATE5 antenna can generally be met by using enhanced technological approaches. | Ji Yang Ying-Xi Zuo Zheng Lou Jing-Quan Cheng Qi-Zhou Zhang Sheng-Cai Shi Jia-Sheng Huang Qi-Jun Yao Zhong Wang | 2013 | Research in Astronomy and Astrophysics2013,13,12: | 6 |

| 20 | Therapeutic effect and mechanism of breviscapine on cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity in mice显示文摘Objective:To observe the protective effect of breviscapineon mice with cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity.Methods:Mice were given a single injection of cisplalin(8 mg/kg,up.);then,breviscapine was given to mice at 25 mg/kg and 50 mg/kg doses,respectively,once a day for seven days.Renal tissue structure was observed after animals were sacrificed.Blood urea nitrogen(BUN),serum creatinine(Scr),lipid peroxide(MDA) and superoxide dismutase(SOD) serum levels were detected;and MDA,glutathione peroxidase,and SOD levels in the renal cortex were detected.Results:Compared with the blank control group(BCG),the kidney pathological damage of mice in the model control group(MCG) was more severe.After applying different doses of breviscapine,different degrees of renal injury improvement appeared.Compared with the BCG,the serum levels of Scr and BUN in the MCG increased to(89.92±6.78) μmoL/L and(15.32±4.53) mmoL/L.The differences were statistical significant(P<0.01).Compared with the MCG,the serum levels of Scr and BUN in the Bre low-dose groups and Bre high-dose groups decreased significantly(P<0.05).Compared with the BCG,the MDA levels in serum and in the renal cortex in the MCG significantly increased,while the SOD levels significantly decreased.Both the differences were statistically significant(P<0.01).In the Bre low-dose groups and Bre high-dose groups,MDA levels in serum and in the renal cortex significantly decreased,while SOD and glutathione peroxidase levels in the renal cortex significantly increased,compared with the MCG;and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusions:Breviscapine can reduce cisplatin induced renal toxicity in mice and it's possible through inhibition of renal tubule cell lipid peroxidation and reduces the nephrotoxicity of cisplatin. | Xiao-Yu Lou Jing-Liang Cheng Bo Zhang | 2015 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2015,8,10: | 6 |
