| 1 | Adsorption of heavy metal ions from aqueous solution by carboxylated cellulose nanocrystals显示文摘A novel nanoadsorbent for the removal of heavy metal ions is reported.Cotton was first hydrolyzed to obtain cellulose nanocrystals(CNCs).CNCs were then chemically modified with succinic anhydride to obtain SCNCs.The sodic nanoadsorbent(NaSCNCs) was further prepared by treatment of SCNCs with saturated NaHCO 3 aqueous solution.Batch experiments were carried out with SCNCs and NaSCNCs for the removal of Pb 2+ and Cd 2+.The effects of contact time,pH,initial adsorption concentration,coexisting ions and the regeneration performance were investigated.Kinetic studies showed that the adsorption equilibrium time of Pb 2+ and Cd 2+ was reached within 150 min on SCNCs and 5 min on NaSCNCs.The adsorption capacities of Pb 2+ and Cd 2+ on SCNCs and NaSCNCs increased with increasing pH.The adsorption isotherm was well fitted by the Langmuir model.The maximum adsorption capacities of SCNCs and NaSCNCs for Pb 2+ and Cd 2+ were 367.6 mg/g,259.7 mg/g and 465.1 mg/g,344.8 mg/g,respectively.SCNCs and NaSCNCs showed high selectivity and interference resistance from coexisting ions for the adsorption of Pb 2+.NaSCNCs could be efficiently regenerated with a mild saturated NaCl solution with no loss of capacity after two recycles.The adsorption mechanisms of SCNCs and NaSCNCs were discussed. | Xiaolin Yu Shengrui Tong Maofa Ge Lingyan Wu Junchao Zuo Changyan Cao Weiguo Song | 2013 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2013,25,5: | 29 |
| 2 | Osthole inhibits proliferation of human breast cancer cells by inducing cell cycle arrest and apoptosis显示文摘Recent studies have revealed that osthole,an active constituent isolated from the fruit of Cnidium monnieri(L.) | 3 | Biological mechanism of controlling cotton aphid (Homoptera: aphididae) by the marginal alfalfa zone surrounding cotton field显示文摘At the beginning stage of cotton aphids (Aphis gossypii Glover) invading the cotton field, large numbers of insects have accumulated in the marginal alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) zone surrounding it. They are 6.94 times (excluded natural enemies) as many as the aphids in cotton field. Most of these insects are Therioaphid maculata (Buckton), and occur in fields 10-15 d earlier than cotton aphids. Consequently, abundant natural enemies have bred in alfalfa zone when cotton aphids increase rapidly in cotton fields in the middle of June in Xinhe County, Xinjiang Autonomous Region. The total number of the major natural enemies, including Coccinellids, Chrysopids and Syphid flies in alfalfa zone, is 13.65 times that in cotton field within the same acreage of fields. | 6 | Ability of multicellular salt glands in Tamarix species to secrete Na^+ and K^+ selectively显示文摘The present study aimed to determine the mechanism of cation-selective secretion by multicellular salt glands.Using a hydroponic culture system,the secretion and accumulation of Na+ and K+ in Tamarix ramosissima and T.laxa under different salt stresses (NaCl,KCl and NaCl+KCl) were studied.Additionally,the effects of salt gland inhibitors (orthovanadate,Ba2+,ouabain,tetraethylammonium (TEA) and verapamil) on Na+ and K+ secretion and accumulation were examined.Treatment with NaCl (at 0-200 mmol L 1 levels) significantly increased Na+ secretion,whereas KCl treatment (at 0-200 mmol L 1 levels) significantly increased K+ secretion.The ratio of secretion to accumulation of Na+ was higher than that of K+.The changes in Na+ and K+ secretion differed after adding different ions into the single-salt solutions.Addition of NaCl to the KCl solution (at 100 mmol L 1 level,respectively) led to a significant decrease in K+ secretion rate,whereas addition of KCl to the NaCl solution (at 100 mmol L 1 level,respectively) had little impact on the Na+ secretion rate.These results indicated that Na+ secretion in Tamarix was highly selective.In addition,Na+ secretion was significantly inhibited by orthovanadate,ouabain,TEA and verapamil,and K+ secretion was significantly inhibited by ouabain,TEA and verapamil.The different impacts of orthovanadate on Na+ and K+ secretion might be the primary cause for the different Na+ and K+ secretion abilities of multicellular salt glands in Tamarix. | MA HaiYan TIAN ChangYan FENG Gu YUAN JunFeng | 2011 | Science China(Life Sciences)2011,54,3: | 7 |
| 7 | Comparison of paleotemperature reconstructions using microbial tetraether thermometers of the Chinese loess-paleosol sequence for the past 350000 years显示文摘The recently proposed global and local calibrations for the mean annual air temperature(MAT) reconstruction on the basis of 5-and 6-methyl brGDGTs have rarely been applied to the Chinese LPS yet, leaving the applicability of these calibrations unclear. Here, we used the improved chromatography method to analyze 198 loess-paleosol samples from the Weinan section in the southern CLP for the past 350 kyr. The 6-methyl brGDGTs comprise a major proportion of total brGDGTs, pointing to alkaline conditions for most soil samples from the Weinan LPS. The decoupled profile variation of MBT′6ME and MBT′_(5ME) suggests their response to different enviromental factors, possibly soil pH(or soil moisture) and temperature, respectively. This discrimination further corraborates that temperature and monsoonal precipitation were not in phase during the last four deglaciations on the CLP. Temperature estimates for the six calibrations tested show similar trends but remarkably differ in amplitudes. The soil moisture appears to affect the global MBT′/CBT calibration, the global MATmr calibration(a calibration based on the multiple linear regression) and the Chinese local SSM(Stepwise Selection Method) calibration, resulting in a significant underestimation of late Holocene temperature. In contrast, the dry climate has no effect on the global MBT′5ME calibration. Of the six calibrations,only the Chinese local SSM calibration and global MATmr calibration produce temperature variation amplitude over the past 350 ka that is consistent with other independent proxy data. | 8 | Root growth and spatio-temporal distribution of three common annual halophytes in a saline desert, northern Xinjiang显示文摘Root growth and spatial and temporal distribution in the 0-100 cm soil profiles of three common annual halophytes Salsola subcrassa, Suaeda acuminate and Petrosimonia sibirica distributed in a saline desert in northern Xinjiang, China were studied in 2009 and 2010. The results showed that the root systems of the three halophytes were of the taproot type, vertically distributed in the 90-cm soil profile, and were deepest in late July. Their taproots reached maximum depth rapidly, early in the growth period, but with rare lateral roots. They were then dug out in an orderly way, from bottom to top, exhibiting vertical development first and then horizontal development. The distribution of specific root length, which reflects the characteristics of the feeder root, was gradually increased from top to bottom, whereas root weight displayed an opposite distribution pattern. The root length distribution of the three halophytes was concentrated (62% to 76%) in the middle soil profile (20-60 cm), with less distribution in the surface (0-20 cm) and bottom (60-90 cm) soil profiles. | 9 | Recombinant adenovirus-p53(Gendicine) sensitizes a pancreatic carcinoma cell line to radiation显示文摘Objective:In this study,we examine the effects of recombinant adenovirus-p53(rAd-p53)on the pancreatic carcinoma cell line SW1990.Specifically,we determine if expression of rAd-p53 sensitizes these cells to radiation.Methods:Following transfection of SW1990 cells with rAd-p53,we measured expression of P53,P21 and Bax by immunocytochemistry.Both transfected and control cell lines were irradiated with a range of doses,and the survival fractions(SF)were calculated.Dose survival curves were constructed and modeled for comparison.Results:Transfection of SW1990 cells with rAd-p53 resulted in increased expression of P53,P21 and Bax in a time-dependent manner.At 96 h after transfection,89.92%of cells expressed P53,56.8%expressed P21,and 76.50%expressed Bax.The SF following radiation was lower in the rAd-p53 transfected cells compared to the control cells,suggesting that rAd-p53 sensitizes SW1990 cells to radiation(D0for the experimental and control groups was 2.199 and 2.462,respectively).Conclusions:Use of the adenoviral vector is an effective means of transfecting SW1990 cells with wild-type P53,and this sensitizes the cell line to irradiation.This work suggests that combining rAd-p53with radiation therapy in pancreatic cancer may be therapeutically beneficial. | Jinluan Li Jianji Pan Xianggao Zhu Ying Su Lingling Bao Sufang Qiu Changyan Zou Yong Cai Junxin Wu Ivan W.K.Tham | 2013 | Chinese Journal of Cancer Research2013,25,6: | 6 |
| 10 | Localized salt accumulation: the main reason for cotton root length decrease during advanced growth stages under drip irrigation with mulch film in a saline soil显示文摘High salinity in soil can prevent root growth of most plants. To investigate soil salinity dynamics under drip irrigation with mulch film(DI) and its effects on cotton root length, we conducted field experiments in saline soil based on a monolith method using flooding irrigation with mulch film(FI) as a control at the Korla Experimental Station of the Xinjiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences, China in 2009 and 2010. The results showed that the total root length decreased 120 days after sowing(DAS) under DI, and was mainly centered in the 0–30 cm soil layer and at distances of 30–70 cm from the drip-lines. There was almost complete overlap in the area of root length decline and salt accumulation. In the soil depth of 0–30 cm and at distances of 30–70 cm from the drip-lines at 110 to 160 DAS in 2009 and 171 DAS in 2010, the electrical conductivity(EC) in all soil samples was at least 3 mS/cm and in some cases exceeded 5 mS/cm under DI treatment. However, EC barely exceeded 3 mS/cm and no reduc- tion in root length was observed under FI treatment. Correlation analysis of soil EC and root length density indicated that the root length declined when the soil EC exceeded 2.8 mS/cm. Herein, a two-step hydrothermal method was developed to fabricate high performance electrode material from pomelo peels. In the first step, the pomelo peels were transformed to carbonaceous aerogel(CA), which constructed of threedimensional, sponge-like brown monolith with hierarchical pores, low-density(0.032 g/cm^3) and excellent mechanical flexibility. Then, the cobalt nickel aluminum layered double hydroxide(CoNiAl-LDH) was in situ loaded on the surface of CA to form exquisite core-shell structure(CoNiAl-LDH@CA) through the second hydrothermal step. | 18 | Oxygen vacancy enhanced biomimetic superoxide dismutase activity of CeO_(2)-Gd nanozymes显示文摘Cerium oxide-based nanozymes have recently drawn much attention in the field of biomedical and antioxidant applications,because of their unique regenerative or autocatalytic properties.Herein,we studied the biomimetic superoxide dismutase(SOD)nanozymes CeO_(2)-Gd that combines the fluorescence properties of rare earth Gd with the antioxidant properties of CeO_(2)nanoparticles,which was prepared via facile route.The structure and composition of the CeO_(2)-Gd were measured and verified by X-ray powder diffraction(XRD),Raman spectroscopy,transmission electron microscopy(TEM),energydispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDX),and X-ray electron spectroscopy(XPS).Confocal microscopy was used to image cells.Antioxidant performance and cell viability of these nanozymes were measured in vitro using BGC-803 cell.CeO_(2)-Gd nanozymes with a higher Ce^(3+)/Ce^(4+)ratio show higher superoxide dismutase(SOD)mimetic activity.Their antioxidant activity and fluorescence properties of CeO_(2)-Gd in BGC-803 cancer cells are enhanced by oxygen vacancies generated by doping rare-earth elements Gd.This work may guide the future design of CeO_(2)-Gd-based biomimetic nanozymes for anticancer and antioxidant applications. | Xiangcheng Shi Jingjie Yang Xintong Wen Fuii Tian Changyan Li | 2021 | Journal of Rare Earths2021,39,9: | 4 |
| 19 | Differential mRNA expression profiling of oral squamous cell carcinoma by high-throughput RNA sequencing显示文摘Differentially expressed genes are thought to regulate the development and progression of oral squamous cell carcinomas(OSCC).The purpose of this study was to screen differentially expressed mRNAs in OSCC and matched paraneoplastic normal tissues,and to explore the intrinsic mechanism of OSCC development and progression.We obtained the differentially expressed mRNA expression profiles in 10 pairs of fresh-frozen OSCC tissue specimens and matched paraneoplastic normal tissue specimens by high-throughput RNA sequencing.By using Gene Ontology enrichment analysis and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes(KEGG) pathway enrichment analyses,the functional significance of the differentially expressed genes were analyzed.We identified 1,120 significantly up-regulated mRNAs and 178 significantly down-regulated mRNAs in OSCC,compared to normal tissue.The differentially expressed mRNAs were involved in 20 biological processes and 68 signal pathways.Compared to adjacent normal tissue,the expression of MAGEA11 was up-regulated;TCHH was down-regulated.These findings were verified by real-time PCR.These differentially expressed mRNAs may function as oncogenes or tumor suppressors in the development and progression of OSCC.This study provides novel insights into OSCC.However,further work is needed to determine if these differentially expressed mRNAs have potential roles as diagnostic biomarkers and candidate therapeutic targets for OSCC. | Liangyu Ge Siyu Liu Long Xie Lei Sang Changyan Ma Hongwei Li | 2015 | The Journal of Biomedical Research2015,29,5: | 4 |
| 20 | Synthesis and biological evaluation of 8-substituted and deglucuronidated scutellarin and baicalin analogues as antioxidant responsive element activators显示文摘Flavonoids are important bioactive dietary compounds, which are proved to be antioxidant responsive element (ARE) activators to defend against electrophilic toxicants and oxidative stress. The activators induce ARE gene transcription through Nrf2 factor, a major transcriptional stimulator of cytoprotective genes, relieved from a Keap1 complex. In this report, based on the structures of two flavonoids, scutellarin and baicalin, which are extracted from two common Chinese plants Dengzhanhua (Erigeron breviscapus (vant) Hand-Mazz) and Huangqin (Scutellaria baicalensis Georigi), respectively, we synthesized several 8-substituted and deglucuronidated analogues and identified the ARE activation effects of these flavonoids. We found that the Baicalin, deglucurnonidated Baicalin and diaza cyclopenta derivative were more active. Their dose-dependent upregulation activities of ARE and NQO1 and induction effects of Nrf2 were testified.
