| 1 | A life support-based comprehensive treatment regimen dramatically lowers the in-hospital mortality of patients with fulminant myocarditis: a multiple center study显示文摘Fulminant myocarditis(FM) has unacceptable high mortality. This study aimed to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of a life support-based comprehensive treatment regimen(LSBCTR), a completely novel treatment regimen, for FM. A total of 169 FM patients recruited from January 2008 to December 2018 were divided into two groups: patients receiving LSBCTR(81 cases),which includes(i) mechanical life support(positive pressure respiration, intra-aortic balloon pump with or without extracorporeal membrane oxygenation),(ii) immunomodulation therapy using sufficient doses of glucocorticoids and immunoglobulins, and(iii) application of neuraminidase inhibitors, and those receiving conventional treatment(88 cases). The endpoints were in-hospital death and heart-transplantation. Of all the population, 44 patients(26.0%) died in hospitals. Inhospital mortality was 3.7%(3/81) for LSBCTR group and 46.6%(41/88) for traditional treatment(P<0.001). Early application of LSBCTR, mechanical life support, neuraminidase inhibitors, and immunomodulation therapy significantly contributed to reduction in in-hospital mortality. This study describes a novel treatment regimen for FM patients that dramatically reduces inhospital mortality. | 2 | A step metallogenetic model for gold deposits in the northwestern Shandong Peninsula, China显示文摘Based on our study of the nature and variation of mineralization-controlling faults in their deep extension and the spatial distribution of gold orebodies in the northwestern Shandong Peninsula (NSP), here we propose that the gold deposits in the Jiaojia gold belt are controlled by listric faults and the gold deposits in the NSP are controlled by extensional fault system. We also suggest that there is a multiple mineralization space in the deep part of the NSP gold belt. As steps or benches occur along the deep extention of the listric fault where its dipping angle changes from steep to gentle, a number of gold deposits are correspondingly distributed as a steplike pattern, which is named as a step metallogenetic model for gold deposits in the NSP. The gold deposits in Shandong Peninsula were formed in the Cretaceous when the crust in the region experienced extention and thinning following the strong collision between North China Plate and Yangtze Plate during the Triassic. | 3 | Soliton bursts and deterministic dissipative Kerr soliton generation in auxiliary-assisted microcavities显示文摘Dissipative Kerr solitons in resonant frequency combs offer a promising route for ultrafast mode-locking,precision spectroscopy and time-frequency standards.The dynamics for the dissipative soliton generation,however,are intrinsically intertwined with thermal nonlinearities,limiting the soliton generation parameter map and statistical success probabilities of the solitary state.Here,via use of an auxiliary laser heating approach to suppress thermal dragging dynamics in dissipative soliton comb formation,we demonstrate stable Kerr soliton singlet formation and soliton bursts.First,we access a new soliton existence range with an inverse-sloped Kerr soliton evolution—diminishing soliton energy with increasing pump detuning.Second,we achieve deterministic transitions from Turinglike comb patterns directly into the dissipative Kerr soliton singlet pulse bypassing the chaotic states.This is achieved by avoiding subcomb overlaps at lower pump power,with near-identical singlet soliton comb generation over twenty instances.Third,with the red-detuned pump entrance route enabled,we uncover unique spontaneous soliton bursts in the direct formation of low-noise optical frequency combs from continuum background noise.The burst dynamics are due to the rapid entry and mutual attraction of the pump laser into the cavity mode,aided by the auxiliary laser and matching well with our numerical simulations.Enabled by the auxiliary-assisted frequency comb dynamics,we demonstrate an application of automatic soliton comb recovery and long-term stabilization against strong external perturbations.Our findings hold potential to expand the parameter space for ultrafast nonlinear dynamics and precision optical frequency comb stabilization. | Heng Zhou Yong Geng Wenwen Cui Shu-Wei Huang Qiang Zhou Kun Qiu Chee Wei Wong | 2019 | Light(Science & Applications)2019,8,1: | 16 |
| 4 | Can acupuncture therapy reduce preoperative anxiety?A systematic review and meta-analysis显示文摘Background:Acupuncture therapy has shown promise for effectively relieving preoperative anxiety.Nevertheless,previous findings from randomized controlled trials(RCTs)are inconsistent and must be examined in detail.Objective:This study systematically evaluates the efficacy and safety of acupuncture therapy for preoperative anxiety as well as the quality of evidence supporting this application.Search strategy:The China National Knowledge Infrastructure Database,Wanfang Data Journal Database,Chinese Biomedical Literature Database,Chongqing VIP,Embase,Pub Med and Cochrane Library Databases were queried from their inception to 19,February 2020,using keywords such as“acupuncture therapy,”“preoperative”and“anxioty.”Manual searches expanded the search breadth and included conference abstracts and other reference lists.Inclusion criteria:RCTs were included in the current study if they contained a comparison between a group of anxiety patients that received acupuncture therapy and a control group that received sham acupuncture.Data extraction and analysis:Literature was reviewed,and various articles were selected using the Note Express 3.2.0 software.Two researchers independently screened and extracted data and evaluated the risk of bias in the included studies.The Rev Man 5.3 software was used for data aggregation and the Grades of Recommendation,Assessment,Development and Evaluation(GRADE)assessment was used to evaluate the quality of the study outcomes.Results:Twelve studies were included in the review,containing a total of 916 patients.Meta-analysis showed that,compared with the control group,patients who received acupuncture therapy had reduced State-Trait Anxiety Inventory Scale(STAI-S)score(mean difference[MD]=–9.07,95%confidence interval[CI][–13.19 to–4.96],P<0.0001)and Visual Analogue Scale(VAS)score(MD=–1.37,95%CI[–2.29 to–0.45],P=0.003).However,for the Hamilton Anxiety Scale(HAMA)score,there was no difference between the two groups(MD=–3.98,95%CI[–12.89 to 4.92],P=0.38).Further,the GRADE assessment demonstrated that the STAI-S was of moderate quality,the VAS of low quality and the HAMA of very low quality.Conclusion:Acupuncture therapy may be able to decrease anxiety in preoperative patients,but the results need to be further verified due to the small sample sizes and the low quality of evidence to date. | Qiu-yu Tong Ran Liu Kun Zhang Yuan G ao Guang-wei Cui Wei-dong Shen | 2021 | Journal of Integrative Medicine2021,19,1: | 15 |
| 5 | Effect of Qingfei Mixture (清肺合剂) on Pediatric Mycoplasma Pneumoniae Pneumonia with Phlegm Heat Obstructing Fei (Lung) Syndrome显示文摘Objective: To explore the effect and mechanism of Qingfei Mixture(清肺合剂), a Chinese medicine, in treating mycoplasma pneumonia(MP) in MP patients and rat model. Methods: A total of 46 MP children with phlegm heat obstructing Fei(Lung) syndrome were randomly assigned to two groups by the method of random number table, with 23 children in each group. The control group was treated with intravenous infusion of azithromycin; the treatment group received intravenous infusion of azithromycin and oral administration of Qingfei Mixture. The treatment course was 7 days. Major symptoms and minor symptoms were observed and scored before and after treatments. A rat model of MP was also established. A total of 120 wistar rats were randomly divided into 5 groups: a normal group, infection group, Qingfei Mixture treatment group, azithromycin treatment group, and Qingfei Mixture + azithromycin treatment group. Each group contained 24 rats, from which every 6 were euthanatized 1, 3, 7 and 14 days after infection. MP DNA in pulmonary tissue homogenates was detected using real-time fluorescence quantitative polymerase chain reaction. Pathology was assessed after hematoxylin(HE) staining and lung tissue pathology scores were determined in pulmonary tissue. Transmission electron microscopic detection and electronic image analysis were performed on lung tissue 3 days after infection. Interleukin(IL)-17 was detected in serum using enzymelinked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) 7 days after infection. Results: In the clinical study, both control and the treatment group showed improved results on removing symptoms of phlegm heat syndrome compared to the control group(P<0.05). In animal experiments, On the 7th day after MP infection, as detected by electron microscopy, the pulmonary capillary basement membranes of the azithromycin + Qingfei Mixture treatment group were much thinner than those of the azithromycin or Qingfei mixture treatment groups(P<0.05). The level of serum IL-17 in the azithromycin + Qingfei Mixture treatment group was lower than that in the azithromycin or Qingfei Mixture groups(P<0.01). | 6 | Effect of contrast-enhanced ultrasound on differential diagnosis of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma and arterial phase enhanced hepatic inflammatory lesions显示文摘Objective: To investigate differential diagnosis between intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma(ICC) and arterial phase enhanced hepatic inflammatory lesions in patients without liver cirrhosis using contrast-enhanced ultrasound(CEUS).Methods: ICC and hepatic inflammatory lesions cases with CEUS and pathological diagnosis between Sep 2013 and Oct 2016 were investigated retrospectively. Imaging features of conventional ultrasound and CEUS were analyzed. The parameters of time intensity curve(TIC), including the arrival time, peak intensity(PI) in the lesions, the starting time for washout, and the intensity difference at 3 min(ΔI_3) after contrast agent infection between the lesion and the liver parenchyma, were compared between ICC and hepatic inflammatory lesions.Results: Twenty-five ICC and fifteen inflammatory patients were included in this study. Seventeen ICC(68.0%)and two inflammatory cases(13.3%) showed bile duct dilatation on conventional ultrasound. Using CEUS, three ICC cases(12.0%) were misdiagnosed as inflammatory lesions and three inflammatory lesions(20.0%) as ICC; two ICC(8.0%) and one inflammatory case(6.7%) could not be made definite diagnosis. Washout started at 34.5±3.5 s and 61.5±12.9 s for ICC and inflammatory lesions respectively(P<0.001). The intensity difference between lesion and liver parenchyma at 3 min after contrast agent injection was 10.8±3.1 dB in ICC and 4.2±2.3 dB in inflammatory group(P<0.001). | 7 | Electroacupuncture modulates the activity of the hippocampus-nucleus tractus solitarius-vagus nerve pathway to reduce myocardial ischemic injury显示文摘The hippocampus is involved in the regulation of the autonomic nervous system,together with the hypothalamus and brainstem nuclei,such as the paraventricular nucleus and nucleus tractus solitarius.The vagus nerve-nucleus tractus solitarius pathway has an important role in cardiovascular reflex regulation.Myocardial ischemia has been shown to cause changes in the autonomic nervous system,affecting the dynamic equilibrium of the sympathetic and vagal nerves.However,it remains poorly understood how the hippocampus communicates with brainstem nuclei to regulate the autonomic nervous system and alleviate myocardial ischemic tissue damage.A rat model of acute myocardial ischemia(AMI) was made by ligating the left anterior descending branch of the coronary artery.Three days before ischemia,the hippocampal CA1 region was damaged.Then,3 days after ischemia,electroacupuncture(EA) at Shenmen(HT7)-Tongli(HT5) was performed(continuous wave,1 m A,2 Hz,duration of 30 minutes).Cluster analysis of firing patterns showed that one type of neuron was found in rats in the sham and AMI groups.Three types of neurons were observed in the AMI + EA group.Six types of neurons were found in the AMI + EA + Lesion group.Correlation analysis showed that the frequency of vagus nerve discharge in each group was negatively correlated with heart rate(HR)(P < 0.05,r =-0.424),and positively correlated with mean arterial pressure(MAP)(P < 0.05,r = 0.40987) and the rate-pressure product(RPP)(P < 0.05,r = 0.4252).The total frequency of the nucleus tractus solitarius discharge in each group was positively correlated with vagus nerve discharge(P < 0.01,r = 0.7021),but not with hemodynamic index(HR: P > 0.05,r =-0.03263; MAP: P > 0.05,r =-0.08993; RPP: P > 0.05,r =-0.03263).Some neurons(Neuron C) were negatively correlated with vagus nerve discharge,HR,MAP and RPP in the AMI + EA group(vagus nerve discharge: P < 0.05,r =-0.87749; HR: P < 0.01,r =-0.91902; MAP: P < 0.05,r =-0.85691; RPP: P < 0.01,r =-0.91902).Some neurons(Neurons C,D and E) were positively correlated with vagus nerve discharge,HR,MAP and RPP in the AMI + EA + Lesion group(vagus nerve discharge: P < 0.01,r = 0.8905,P < 0.01,r = 0.9725,P < 0.01,r = 0.9054; HR: P < 0.01,r = 0.9347,P < 0.01,r = 0.9089,P < 0.05,r = 0.8247; MAP: P < 0.05,r = 0.8474,P < 0.01,r = 0.9691,P < 0.01,r = 0.9027; RPP: P < 0.05,r = 0.8637,P < 0.01,r = 0.9407,P < 0.01,r = 0.9027).These findings show that the hippocampus-nucleus tractus solitarius-vagus nerve pathway is involved in the cardioprotective effect of EA at the heart meridian.Some interneurons in the nucleus tractus solitarius may play a particularly important role in the cardiomodulatory process. | Shuai Cui Kun Wang Sheng-Bing Wu Guo-Qi Zhu Jian Cao Yi-Ping Zhou Mei-Qi Zhou | 2018 | Neural Regeneration Research2018,13,9: | 13 |

| 9 | Epidemiological and clinical features of functional dyspepsia in a region with a high incidence of esophageal cancer in China显示文摘Background:Functional dyspepsia(FD)has rarely been investigated in areas with a high prevalence of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma(ESCC).This study aims to reveal the epidemiological and clinical features of FD and organic dyspepsia(OD)in such a population.Methods:A middle-aged and elderly population-based study was conducted in a region with a high incidence of ESCC.All participants completed the Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease Questionnaire and Functional Gastrointestinal Disease Rome III Diagnostic Questionnaire,and they underwent gastroscopy.After exclusion of gastroesophageal reflux disease,uninvestigated dyspepsia(UID)was divided into OD and FD for further analyses.Results:A total of 2916 participants were enrolled from July 2013 to March 2014 in China.We detected 166 UID cases with questionnaires,in which 17 patients with OD and 149 with FD were diagnosed via gastroscopy.OD cases presented as reflux esophagitis(RE),ESCC,and duodenal ulcer.Heartburn(52.94%)and reflux(29.41%)were common in OD,but no symptomatic differences were found between FD and OD.Male sex,low education level,and liquid food were the risk factors for OD,while frequent fresh vegetable consumption was a protective factor.FD included 56(37.58%)cases of postprandial distress syndrome(PDS),52(34.89%)of epigastric pain syndrome(EPS),nine(6.04%)of PDS+EPS,and 32(21.48%)of FD+functional esophageal disorders.The Helicobacter pylori infection rate in FD patients was not higher than that in the control group(34.23%vs.42.26%,P=0.240).Frequent spicy food consumption was associated with PDS(odds ratio[OR]:2.088,95%confidence interval[CI]:1.028–4.243),while consumption of deep well water was protective for PDS(OR:0.431,95%CI:0.251–0.741).Conclusions:The prevalence of FD was 5.11%in the studied population.Gastroscopy should be prescribed for dyspepsia patients in case that ESCC and RE would be missed in UID cases diagnosed solely by the Rome III questionnaire.Trial Registration:ClinicalTrials.gov,NCT01688908;http://gffzzd3f38a9638994581s0obwqbbbcoqk6w0k.ffgz.tsg.suse.edu.cn/ct2/show/record/NCT01688908. | Nan Hu Kun Wang Li Zhang Zuo-Jing Liu Zhu Jin Rong-Li Cui He-Jun Zhang Zhong-Hu He Yang Ke Li-Ping Duan | 2021 | Chinese Medical Journal2021,,12: | 9 |

| 13 | Salivary mycobiome dysbiosis and its potential impact on bacteriome shifts and host immunity in oral lichen planus显示文摘The biodiversity of the mycobiome,an important component of the oral microbial community,and the roles of fungal–bacterial and fungal–immune system interactions in the pathogenesis of oral lichen planus (OLP) remain largely uncharacterized.In this study,we sequenced the salivary mycobiome and bacteriome associated with OLP.First,we described the dysbiosis of the microbiome in OLP patients,which exhibits lower levels of fungi and higher levels of bacteria.Significantly higher abundances of the fungi Candida and Aspergillus in patients with reticular OLP and of Alternaria and Sclerotiniaceae_unidentified in patients with erosive OLP were observed compared to the healthy controls.Aspergillus was identified as an “OLP-associated” fungus because of its detection at a higher frequency than in the healthy controls.Second,the co-occurrence patterns of the salivary mycobiome–bacteriome demonstrated negative associations between specific fungal and bacterial taxa identified in the healthy controls,which diminished in the reticular OLP group and even became positive in the erosive OLP group.Moreover,the oral cavities of OLP patients were colonized by dysbiotic oral flora with lower ecological network complexity and decreased fungal–Firmicutes and increased fungal–Bacteroidetes sub-networks.Third,several keystone fungal genera (Bovista,Erysiphe,Psathyrella,etc.) demonstrated significant correlations with clinical scores and IL-17 levels.Thus,we established that fungal dysbiosis is associated with the aggravation of OLP.Fungal dysbiosis could alter the salivary bacteriome or may reflect a direct effect of host immunity,which participates in OLP pathogenesis. | Yan Li Kun Wang Bo Zhang Qichao Tu Yufei Yao Bomiao Cui Biao Ren Jinzhi He Xin Shen Joy D.Van Nostrand Jizhong Zhou Wenyuan Shi Liying Xiao Changqing Lu Xuedong Zhou | 2019 | International Journal of Oral Science2019,11,3: | 8 |
| 14 | In situ construction of porous hierarchical(Ni3-xFex)FeN/Ni heterojunctions toward efficient electrocatalytic oxygen evolution显示文摘As a choke point in water electrolysis,the oxygen evolution reaction(OER)suffers from the severe electrode polarization and large overpotential.Herein,the porous hierarchical hetero-(Nis Fe)FeN/Ni catalysts are in situ constructed for the eficient electrocatalytic OER.X-ray absorption fine structure characterizations reveal the strong Ni-Fe bimetallic interaction in(Niz Fex)FeN/Ni.Theoretical study indicates the heterojunction and bimetallic interaction decrease the free-energy change for the rate-limiting step of the OER and the overpotential thereof.In addition,the high conductivity and porous hierarchical morphology favor the electron transfer,electrolyte access and O2 release.Consequently,the optimized catalyst achieves a low overpotential of 223 mV at 10 mA.cm^-2,a small Tafel slope of 68 mV:dec^-1,and a high stability.The excellent performance of the optimized catalyst is also demonstrated by the overall water electrolysis with a low working voltage and high Faradaic efficiency.Moreover,the correlation between the structure and performance is well established by the experimental characterizations and theoretical calculations,which confirms the origin of the OER activity from the surface metal oxyhydroxide in situ generated upon applying the current.This study suggests a promising approach to the advanced OER electrocatalysts for practical applications by constructing the porous hierarchical metal-compound/metal heterojunctions. | Minglei Yan Kun Mao Peixin Cui Chi Chen Jie Zhao Xizhang Wang Lijun Yang Hui Yang Qiang Wu Zheng Hu | 2020 | Nano Research2020,13,2: | 8 |

In the long term, it is necessary to increase the development efficiency of block matrix, surfactant-aided imbibition is a potential way. The current work aimed to explain comprehensively how surfactants can enhance the imbibition rate. Laboratory experiments were performed to investigate the effects of wettability, interfacial tension(IFT), and relative permeability as the key parameters underlying surfactant solution imbibition. Two different types of surfactants, sodium dodecyl sulfate and polyethylene glycol octylphenol ether, at varied concentrations were tested on reservoir rocks. Experimental results showed that the oil recovery rate increased with increased wettability alteration and IFT and decreased residual oil saturation. A mechanistic simulator developed in previous studies was used to perform parametric analysis after successful laboratory-scale validation. Results were proven by parametric studies. | 17 | Blunted nitric oxide regulation in Tibetans under high-altitude hypoxia显示文摘Nitric oxide(NO) is an important molecule for vasomotor tone, and elevated NO signaling was previously hypothesized as a unique and adaptive physiological change in highland Tibetans. However, there has been lack of NO data from Tibetans living at low altitude and lowlander immigrants living at high altitude, which is crucial to test this hypothesis. Here, through cross-altitude(1990–5018 m) and cross-population(Tibetans and Han Chinese) analyses of serum NO metabolites(NOx) of 2086 individuals, we demonstrate that although Tibetans have a higher serum NOx level compared to lowlanders, Han Chinese immigrants living at high altitude show an even higher level than Tibetans. Consequently, our data contradict the previous proposal of increased NO signaling as the unique adaptive strategy in Tibetans.Instead, Tibetans have a relatively lower circulating NOx level at high altitude. This observation is further supported by data from the hypoxic experiments using human umbilical vein endothelial cells and gene knockout mice. No difference is detected between Tibetans and Han Chinese for endothelial nitric oxide synthase(e NOS), the key enzyme for circulating NO synthesis, suggesting that e NOS itself is unlikely to be the cause. We show that other NO synthesis-related genes(e.g. GCH1) carry Tibetan-enriched mutations significantly associated with the level of circulating NOx in Tibetans. | 20 | Electroactive Shape Memory Cyanate/Polybutadiene Epoxy Composites Filled with Carbon Black显示文摘Electroactive shape memory composites were synthesized using polybutadiene epoxy(PBEP) and bisphenol A type cyanate ester(BACE) filled with different contents of carbon black(CB). Dynamic mechanical analysis(DMA), scanning electron microscopy(SEM), electrical performance and electroactive shape memory behavior were systematically investigated. It is found that the volume resistivity decreased due to excellent electrical conductivity of CB, in turn resulting in good electroactive shape memory properties. The content of CB and applied voltage had significant influence on electroactive shape memory effect of developed BACE/PBEP/CB composites. Shape recovery can be observed within a few seconds with the CB content of 5 wt% and voltage of 60 V. Shape recovery time decreased with increasing content of CB and voltage.
