| 1 | China Stroke Statistics 2019:A Report From the National Center for Healthcare Quality Management in Neurological Diseases,China National Clinical Research Center for Neurological Diseases,the Chinese Stroke Association,National Center for Chronic and Non-communicable Disease Control and Prevention,Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention and Institute for Global Neuroscience and Stroke Collaborations显示文摘China faces the greatest challenge from stroke in the world.The death rate for cerebrovascular diseases in China was 149.49 per 100000,accounting for 1.57 million deaths in 2018.It ranked third among the leading causes of death behind malignant tumours and heart disease.The age-standardised prevalence and incidence of stroke in 2013 were 1114.8 per 100000 population and 246.8 per 100000 person-years,respectively.According to the Global Burden of Disease Study 2017,the years of life lost(YLLs)per 100000 population for stroke increased by 14.6%;YLLs due to stroke rose from third highest among all causes in 1990 to the highest in 2017.The absolute numbers and rates per 100000 population for all-age disability-adjusted life years(DALYs)for stroke increased substantially between 1990 and 2017,and stroke was the leading cause of all-age DALYs in 2017.The main contributors to cerebrovascular diseases include behavioural risk factors(smoking and alcohol use)and pre-existing conditions(hypertension,diabetes mellitus,dyslipidaemia and atrial fibrillation(AF)).The most prevalent risk factors among stroke survivors were hypertension(63.0%-84.2%)and smoking(31.7%-47.6%).The least prevalent was AF(2.7%-7.4%).The prevalences for major risk factors for stroke are high and most have increased over time.Based on the latest national epidemiological data,26.6%of adults aged≥15 years(307.6 million adults)smoked tobacco products.For those aged≥18 years,age-adjusted prevalence of hypertension was 25.2%;adjusted prevalence of hypercholesterolaemia was 5.8%;and the standardised prevalence of diabetes was 10.9%.For those aged≥40 years,the standardised prevalence of AF was 2.31%.Data from the Hospital Quality Monitoring System showed that 3010204 inpatients with stroke were admitted to 1853 tertiary care hospitals during 2018.Of those,2466785(81.9%)were ischaemic strokes(ISs);447609(14.9%)were intracerebral haemorrhages(ICHs);and 95810(3.2%)were subarachnoid haemorrhages(SAHs).The average age of patients admitted was 66 years old,and nearly 60%were male.A total of 1555(0.1%),2774(0.6%)and 1347(1.4%)paediatric strokes(age<18 years)were identified among IS,ICH and SAH,respectively.Over one-third(1063892(35.3%))of the patients were covered by urban resident basic medical insurance,followed by urban employee basic medical insurance(699513(23.2%))and new rural cooperative medical schema(489361(16.3%)).The leading risk factor was hypertension(67.4%for IS,77.2%for ICH and 49.1%for SAH),and the leading comorbidity was pneumonia or pulmonary infection(10.1%for IS,31.4%for ICH and 25.2%for SAH).In-hospital death/discharge against medical advice rate was 8.3%for stroke inpatients,ranging from 5.8%for IS to 19.5%for ICH.The median and IQR of length of stay was 10.0(7.0-14.0)days,ranging from 10.0(7.0-13.0)in IS to 14.0(8.0-22.0)in SAH.Data from the Chinese Stroke Center Alliance demonstrated that the composite scores of guideline-recommended key performance indicators for patients with IS,ICH and SAH were 0.77±0.21,0.72±0.28 and 0.59±0.32,respectively. | Yong-Jun Wang Zi-Xiao Li Hong-Qiu Gu Yi Zhai Yong Jiang Xing-Quan Zhao Yi-Long Wang Xin Yang Chun-Juan Wang Xia Meng Hao Li Li-Ping Liu Jing Jing Jing Wu An-Ding Xu Qiang Dong David Wang Ji-Zong Zhao On behalf of China Stroke Statistics 2019 Writing Committee | 2020 | Stroke & Vascular Neurology2020,5,3: | 181 |
| 2 | New eolian red clay sequence on the western Chinese Loess Plateau linked to onset of Asian desertification about 25 Ma ago显示文摘The expansion of inland Asia deserts has considerably influenced the environmental, social and economic activities in Asia. Aridification of inland Asia, especially timing of the initiation of Asian desertification, is a contentious topic in paleoclimatology. Late Cenozoic eolian loess-red clay sequences on the Chinese Loess Plateau, which possess abundant paleoclimatic and paleo-environmental information, can be regarded as an indicator of inland Asia desertification. Here we present a detailed magnetostratigraphic investigation of a new red clay sequence about 654 m in Zhuanglang located at the western Chinese Loess Plateau. Sedimentological, geochemical, mineralogical, and quartz morphological lines of evidence show that the red clay is of eolian origin. Magnetostratigraphic correlations indicate that this core sequence spans from 25.6 to 4.8 Ma, and typical eolian red clay appears as early as 25 Ma. This extends the lower limit of the red clay on the Chinese Loess Plateau from the previously thought early Miocene back into the late Oligocene. This new red clay record further implies that the inland Asia desertification was initiated at least by the late Oligocene. | 4 | Prevalence of Atrial Fibrillation in China and Its Risk Factors显示文摘Objective To study the prevalence of atrial fibrillation(AF)and the relation with its risk factors in China.Methods A total of 19 363 participants(8635 males and 10 728 females) aged ≥35 years in geographically dispersed urban and rural regions of China were included in this cross-sectional survey.All participants received questionnaire,physical and blood examination.Echocardiography were performed for AF patients found in the survey.Results Of the 19 363 participants,199 were diagnosed with AF.The estimated age-standardized prevalence of AF was 0.78% in men and 0.76% in women.The prevalence of AF in participants aged <60 years was 0.41% in men and 0.43% in women,and was 1.83% in both men and women aged ≥60 years.About 19.0% of males and 30.9% of females with AF were diagnosed with valve disease.Age-and sex-adjusted multivariable logistic regression analysis revealed that myocardial infarction,left ventricular hypertrophy(LVH),obesity,and alcohol consumption were associated with a increased risk of AF(P<0.05).Conclusion The age standardized prevalence of AF is 0.77% in the participants enrolled in the present study.The number of AF cases aged ≥35 years is 5.26 million according to 2010 Chinese Census.Most risk factors for AF,identified mainly in Western countries,are also detected in China. | LI Ying WU Yang Feng CHEN Ke Ping LI Xian ZHANG Xing XIE Gao Qiang WANG Fang Zheng ZHANG Shu | 2013 | Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2013,26,9: | 48 |
| 5 | Emplacement age of the post-orogenic A-type granites in Northwestern Lesser Xing'an Ranges, and its relationship to the eastward extension of Suo-lushan-Hegenshan-Zhalaite collisional suture zone显示文摘A great amount of alkali-feldspar and alkaline granites have been found around Nenjiang, Northwest Lesser Xing’an Ranges, but their forming ages have been a controversial subject due to the lack of reliable geological and isotopic geochronological evidence. The zircon U-Pb isotopic dating results conducted in this note indicate that these granites emplaced at 260-290 Ma, coeval with the late stage of Late Paleozoic. Studies of mineralogy, petrology andgeochemistry show that they are post-orogenic A-type granites, and consist of the northeastern extension of huge belt of Late Paleozoic A-type granite along North Xinjiang-Southeast Mongolia-Central Inner Mongolia. | 6 | AXL is a candidate receptor for SARS-CoV-2 that promotes infection of pulmonary and bronchial epithelial cells显示文摘The current coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic presents a global public health challenge.The viral pathogen responsible,severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2),binds to the host receptor ACE2 through its spike(S)glycoprotein,which mediates membrane fusion and viral entry.Although the role of ACE2 as a receptor for SARS-CoV-2 is clear,studies have shown that ACE2 expression is extremely low in various human tissues,especially in the respiratory tract.Thus,other host receptors and/or co-receptors that promote the entry of SARS-CoV-2 into cells of the respiratory system may exist.In this study,we found that the tyrosine-protein kinase receptor UFO(AXL)specifically interacts with the N-terminal domain of SARS-CoV-2 S.Using both a SARS-CoV-2 virus pseudotype and authentic SARS-CoV-2,we found that overexpression of AXL in HEK293T cells promotes SARS-CoV-2 entry as efficiently as overexpression of ACE2,while knocking out AXL significantly reduces SARS-CoV-2 infection in HI 299 pulmonary cells and in human primary lung epithelial cells.Soluble human recombinant AXL blocks SARS-CoV-2 infection in cells expressing high levels of AXL.The AXL expression level is well correlated with SARS-CoV-2 S level in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid cells from COVID-19 patients.Taken together,our findings suggest that AXL is a novel candidate receptor for SARS-CoV-2 which may play an important role in promoting viral infection of the human respiratory system and indicate that it is a potential target for future clinical intervention strategies. | Shuai Wang Zongyang Qiu Yingnan Hou Xiya Deng Wei Xu Tingting Zheng Peihan Wu Shaofang Xie Weixiang Bian Chong Zhang Zewei Sun Kunpeng Liu Chao Shan Aifu Lin Shibo Jiang Youhua Xie Qiang Zhou Lu Lu Jing Huang Xu Li | 2021 | Cell Research2021,31,2: | 39 |
| 7 | Preliminary results pertaining to coseismic displacement and preseismic strain accumulation of the Lushan M_S7.0 earthquake,as reflected by GPS surveying显示文摘This paper presents the coseismic displacement and preseismic deformation fields of the Lushan MS7.0 earthquake that occurred on April 20,2013.The results are based on GPS observations along the Longmenshan fault and within its vicinity.The coseismic displacement and preseismic GPS results indicate that in the strain release of this earthquake,the thrust rupture is dominant and the laevorotation movement is secondary.Furthermore,we infer that any possible the rupture does not reach the earth’s surface,and the seismogenic fault is most likely one fault to the east of the Guanxian-Anxian fault.Some detailed results are obtainable.(1)The southern segment of the Longmenshan fault is locked preceding the Lushan earthquake.After the Wenchuan earthquake,the strain accumulation rate in the southeast direction accelerates in the epicenter of the Lushan earthquake,and the angle between the principal compressional strain and the seismogenic fault indicates that a sinistral deformation background in the direction of the seismogenic fault precedes the Lushan earthquake.Therefore,it is evident that the Wenchuan MS8.0 earthquake accelerated the pregnancy of the Lushan earthquake.(2)The coseismic displacements reflected by GPS data are mainly located in a region that is 230 km(NW direction)×100 km(SW direction),and coseismic displacements larger than 10 mm lie predominantly in a100-km region(NW direction).(3)On a large scale,the coseismic displacement shows thrust characteristics,but the associated values are remarkably small in the near field(within 70 km)of the earthquake fault.Meanwhile,the thrust movement in this70-km region does not correspond with the attenuation characteristics of the strain release,indicating that the rupture of this earthquake does not reach the earth’s surface.(4)The laevorotation movements are remarkable in the 50-km region,which is located in the hanging wall that is close to the earthquake fault,and the corresponding values in this case correlate with the attenuation characteristics of the strain release. | WU YanQiang JIANG ZaiSen WANG Min CHE Shi LIAO Hua LI Qiang LI Peng YANG YongLin XIANG HePing SHAO ZhiGang WANG WuXing WEI WenXin LIU XiaoXia | 2013 | Chinese Science Bulletin2013,58,28: | 33 |

| 11 | Paeonol inhibits tumor growth in gastric cancer in vitro and in vivo显示文摘AIM:To investigate the anti-tumor effects of paeonol in gastric cancer cell proliferation and apoptosis in vitro and in vivo.METHODS:Murine gastric cancer cell line mouse forestomach carcinoma(MFC) or human gastric cancer cell line SGC-7901 was cultured in the presence or absence of paeonol.Cell proliferation was determined by 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide assay,and cell cycle and apoptosis by flow cytometry and TUNEL staining.Tumor growth after subcutaneous implantation of MFC cells in mice was monitored,and the effects of treatment with paeonol were determined.RESULTS:In vitro,paeonol caused dose-dependent inhibition on cell proliferation and induced apoptosis.Cell cycle analysis revealed a decreased proportion of cells in G0/G1 phase,with arrest at S.Paeonol treatment in gastric cancer cell line MFC and SGC-790 cells significantly reduced the expression of Bcl-2 and increased the expression of Bax in a concentration-related manner.Administration of paeonol to MFC tumor-bearing mice significantly lowered the tumor growth and caused tumor regression.CONCLUSION:Paeonol has signif icantly growth-inhibitory and apoptosis-inducing effects in gastric cancer cells both in vitro and in vivo. | Na Li Lu-Lu Fan Guo-Ping Sun Xin-An Wan Zhang-Gui Wang Qiang Wu Hua Wang | 2010 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2010,16,35: | 27 |

| 14 | Oxymatrine liposome attenuates hepatic fibrosis via targeting hepatic stellate cells显示文摘AIM:To investigate the potential mechanism of ArgGly-Asp(RGD) peptide-labeled liposome loading oxymatrine(OM) therapy in CCl 4-induced hepatic fibrosis in rats.METHODS:We constructed a rat model of CCl 4 induced hepatic fibrosis and treated the rats with different formulations of OM.To evaluate the antifibrotic effect of OM,we detected levels of alkaline phosphatase,hepatic histopathology(hematoxylin and eosin stain and Masson staining) and fibrosis-related gene expression of matrix metallopeptidase(MMP)-2,tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase(TIMP)-1 as well as type Ⅰ procollagen via quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction.To detect cell viability and apoptosis of hepatic stellate cells(HSCs),we performed 3-(4,5)-dimethylthiahiazo(-z-y1)-3,5-diphenytetrazoliumromide assay and flow cytometry.To reinforce the combination of oxymatrine with HSCs,we constructed fluorescein-isothiocyanate-conjugated Arg-Gly-Asp peptide-labeled liposomes loading OM,and its targeting of HSCs was examined by fluorescent microscopy.RESULTS:OM attenuated CCl 4-induced hepatic fibrosis,as defined by reducing serum alkaline phosphatase(344.47 ± 27.52 U/L vs 550.69 ± 43.78 U/L,P < 0.05),attenuating liver injury and improving collagen deposits(2.36% ± 0.09% vs 7.70% ± 0.60%,P < 0.05) and downregulating fibrosis-related gene expression,that is,MMP-2,TIMP-1 and type Ⅰ procollagen(P < 0.05).OM inhibited cell viability and induced apoptosis of HSCs in vitro.RGD promoted OM targeting of HSCs and enhanced the therapeutic effect of OM in terms of serum alkaline phosphatase(272.51 ± 19.55 U/L vs 344.47 ± 27.52 U/L,P < 0.05),liver injury,collagen deposits(0.26% ± 0.09% vs 2.36% ± 0.09%,P < 0.05) and downregulating fibrosis-related gene expression,that is,MMP-2,TIMP-1 and type Ⅰ procollagen(P < 0.05).Moreover,in vitro assay demonstrated that RGD enhanced the effect of OM on HSC viability and apoptosis.CONCLUSION:OM attenuated hepatic fibrosis by inhibiting viability and inducing apoptosis of HSCs.The RGD-labeled formulation enhanced the targeting efficiency for HSCs and the therapeutic effect. | Ning-Li Chai Qiang Fu Hui Shi Chang-Hao Cai Jun Wan Shi-Ping Xu Ben-Yan Wu | 2012 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2012,18,31: | 27 |

| 16 | Different histological subtypes of parotid gland tumors: CT findings and diagnostic strategy显示文摘AIM:To present computed tomography(CT) findings of different histological subtypes of parotid gland masses in detail and to establish diagnostic strategy.METHODS:From January 2009 to November 2011,56 patients were collected through the histopathology and Picture Archiving and Communication Systems records,which revealed 5 basal cell adenoma(BCA),16 pleomorphic adenoma(PA),25 Warthin's tumor(War-T),3 Kimura's disease(KD) and 7 parotid carcinoma(PCa) cases.All the CT images were retrospectively analyzed by two radiologists in consensus,based on their description of morphology(location,number,size,margin and fibrous capsule) and enhancement patterns of masses.In addition,the diagnostic efficiency of diagnostic strategy is tested.RESULTS:War-T and BCA patients' mean age was 59.9 ± 12.6 years and 58.4 ± 18.2 years;the significant difference was seen in War-T vs PA and BCA vs PA.About 40% of War-Ts presented with bilateral multifocal lesions,a higher ratio than others.Seventy two percent of War-Ts were limited to the superficial lobe,followed by BCA 60% and PA 40%.Vessel facing sign and enlarged lymph nodes were both frequent in War-T,which respectively accounts for 84% and 76% of cases.Rapid contrast enhancement and decreases were unique for War-T.BCA and PA showed obvious delayed enhancement.The diagnostic strategy of parotid gland tumor had a good diagnostic efficiency,with high accuracy,sensitivity and specificity.CONCLUSION:Determination of the histological subtypes of parotid gland masses might be possible based on CT findings and clinical data.A diagnostic strategy with high diagnostic efficiency was established. | Zhi-Feng Xu Fang Yong Tian Yu Ying-Yu Chen Qiang Gao Tao Zhou Ai-Zhen Pan Ren-Hua Wu | 2013 | World Journal of Radiology2013,5,8: | 25 |

| 18 | A national report from China Liver Transplant Registry: steroid avoidance after liver transplantation for hepatocellular carcinoma显示文摘Objective:We aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of steroid-free immunosuppression after liver transplantation(LT)for hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).Methods:We retrospectively analyzed HCC recipients without steroids after LT(SF group,n=368)based on the China Liver Transplant Registry(CLTR)database.These recipients were matched 1:2 with patients using steroids(S group,n=736)for the same period after LT for HCC,according to propensity scores.Results:Multivariate analysis indicates that recipients with younger age[odds ratio(OR),1.053;P=0.011],preoperative hepatitis B virus(HBV)DNA≥1,000 copies/mL(OR,2.597;P=0.004)and beyond Milan criteria(OR,4.255;P<0.001)were identified as the risk factors associated with tumor recurrence in steroid avoidance recipients after LT.The patients fulfilling the Milan criteria in the SF group presented higher overall and tumor-free survival rates than those in the S group(P<0.05).Multivariate analysis revealed that recipient beyond Milan criteria was an independent prognostic factor for overall survival(OR,1.690;P<0.001)and tumor-free survival(OR,2.066;P<0.001).The incidences of new-onset diabetes mellitus(21.20% vs.33.29%,P<0.001),new-onset hypertension(10.05%vs.18.61%,P<0.001)and hyperlipidemia(4.08% vs.7.20%,P=0.042)were significantly lower in the SF group.Conclusions:Steroid-free immunosuppression could be safe and feasible for HBV-related HCC patients in LT.Age,HBV DNA level and Milan criteria maybe risk factors associated with tumor recurrence in steroid avoidance recipients.Recipient beyond Milan criteria was an independent prognostic factor and recipient fulfilling Milan criteria can benefit the most from steroid-free immunosuppression. | Qiang Wei Feng Gao Runzhou Zhuang Qi Ling Qinghong Ke Jian Wu Tian Shen Mangli Zhang Min Zhang Xiao Xu Shusen Zheng | 2017 | Chinese Journal of Cancer Research2017,29,5: | 25 |
| 19 | Effect of low-nitrogen stress on photosynthesis and chlorophyll fluorescence characteristics of maize cultivars with different low-nitrogen tolerances显示文摘Nitrogen(N)is a critical element for plant growth and productivity that influences photosynthesis and chlorophyll fluorescence.We investigated the effect of low-N stress on leaf photosynthesis and chlorophyll fluorescence characteristics of maize cultivars with difference in tolerance to low N levels.The low-N tolerant cultivar ZH311 and low-N sensitive cultivar XY508 were used as the test materials.A field experiment(with three N levels:N0,0 kg ha–1;N1,150 kg ha–1;N2,300 kg ha–1)in Jiyanyang,Sichuan Province,China,and a hydroponic experiment(with two N levels:CK,4 mmol L–1;LN,0.04 mmol L–1)in Chengdu,Sichuan Province,China were conducted.Low-N stress significantly decreased chlorophyll content and rapid light response curves of the maximum fluorescence under light(Fm′),fluorescence instable state(Fs),non-photochemical quenching(qN),the maximum efficiency of PSII photochemistry under dark-adaption(Fv/Fm),potential activity of PSII(Fv/Fo),and actual photochemical efficiency of PSII(ΦPSII)of leaves.Further,it increased the chlorophyll(Chl)a/Chl b values and so on.The light compensation point of ZH311 decreased,while that of XY508 increased.The degree of variation of these indices in low-N tolerant cultivars was lower than that in low-N sensitive cultivars,especially at the seedling stage.Maize could increase Chl a/Chl b,apparent quantum yield and light saturation point to adapt to N stress.Compared to low-N sensitive cultivars,low-N tolerant cultivars maintained a higher net photosynthetic rate and electron transport rate to maintain stronger PSII activity,which further promoted the ability to harvest and transfer light.This might be a photosynthetic mechanism by which low-N tolerant cultivar adapt to low-N stress. | WU Ya-wei LI Qiang JIN Rong CHEN Wei LIU Xiao-lin KONG Fan-lei KE Yong-pei SHI Haichun YUAN Ji-chao | 2019 | Journal of Integrative Agriculture2019,18,6: | 25 |
