Tibetan Plateau climate dynamics: recent research progress and outlook显示文摘This paper reviews progress in the study of Tibetan Plateau(TP) climate dynamics over the past decade.Several theoretical frameworks, including thermal adaptation and the TP sensible heat(SH) driving air-pump, have been developed to identify the mechanisms responsible for the circulation anomaly produced by thermal forcing of the TP. Numerical simulations demonstrate that the thermal efects of large-scale orography, including the Tibetan and Iranian Plateaus(TIP), are crucial for the formation of the East Asian and South Asian summer monsoons(SASM) because the surface SH of the TIP is the major driver of the water vapor transport required for the genesis of the north branch of the SASM. he large-scale orography of the TP afects the Asian climate through thermal forcing in spring and summer, and mechanical forcing in winter. he TP forcing can also inluence the Asian summer monsoon(ASM) onset over the Bay of Bengal(BOB) by enhancing the BOB warm pool at the surface and by modulating the South Asian High(SAH) in the upper troposphere. On intra-seasonal timescales, the TP thermal forcing signiicantly modulates spring rainfall in southern China and generates the biweekly oscillation of the SAH in summer. Despite climate warming, the atmospheric heat source over the TP, particularly the spring SH,exhibits a clear weakening trend from the 1980 s to 2000 s. his weakening of the spring SH contributed to the anomalous ‘dry in the north' and ‘wet in the south' rainfall patern observed over East China. Also discussed are challenges to further understanding the mechanism of TP forcing on the multi-scale variability of the ASM. | Guoxiong Wu Anmin Duan Yimin Liu Jiangyu Mao Rongcai Ren Qing Bao Bian He Boqi Liu Wenting Hu | 2015 | National Science Review2015,2,1: | 51
A fractal study for nucleate pool boiling heat transfer of nanofluids显示文摘In this paper, a fractal model for nucleate pool boiling heat transfer of nanofluids is developed based on the fractal distribution of nanoparticles and nucleation sites on boiling surfaces. The model shows the dependences of the heat flux on nanoparticle size and the nanoparticle volume fraction of the suspension, the fractal dimension of the nanoparticle and nucleation site, temperature of nanofluids and properties of fluids. The fractal model predictions show that the natural convection stage continues relatively longer in the case of nanofluids. The addition of nanoparticles causes a decrease of the pool nucleate boiling heat transfer. The nucleate pool boiling heat transfer coefficient is decreased by increasing particle concentration. An excellent agreement between the proposed model predictions and experimental data is found. The validity of the fractal model for nucleate pool boiling heat transfer is thus verified. | XIAO BoQi 1 , JIANG GuoPing 2 & CHEN LingXia 1 1 Department of Physics and Electromechanical Engineering, Sanming University, Sanming 365004, China 2 Earthquake Engineering Research Test Center, Guangzhou University, Guangzhou 510405, China | 2010 | Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2010,53,1: | 6
Roles of forced and inertially unstable convection development in the onset process of Indian summer monsoon显示文摘The NCEP/NCAR R1 reanalysis data are employed to investigate the impact of forced and inertial instability in the lower troposphere over the Arabian Sea on the onset process of Indian summer monsoon(ISM),and to reveal the important role of zonal advection of zonal geostrophic momentum played in the forced unstable convection. Results show that during the ISM onset the zero absolute vorticity contour(??=0)shifts northward due to the strong cross-equatorial pressure gradient in the lower troposphere over southern Arabian Sea.Thus a region with negative absolute vorticity is generated near the equator in the northern hemisphere, manifesting the evident free inertial instability. When a southerly passes through this region, under the influence of friction a lower convergence that facilitates the convection flourishing at the lower latitudes appears to the north of zero absolute vorticity contour. However, owing to such a traditional inertial instability, the convection is confined near the equator which does not have direct influence on the ISM onset. On the contrary in the region to the north of the zero absolute vorticity contour and to the south of the low pressure center near the surface, although the atmosphere there is inertially stable, the lower westerly jet can develop and bring on the apparent zonal advection of zonal geostrophic momentum. Both theoretical study and diagnosing analysis present that such a zonal advection of geostrophic momentum is closely associated with the zonal asymmetric distribution of meridional land-sea thermal contrast, which induces a convergence center near and further north of the westerly jet in the lower troposphere over the southwestern coast of the Indian Peninsula, providing a favorable lower circulation for the ISM onset. It illustrates that the development of convection over the Arabian Sea in late spring and early summer is not only due to the frictional inertial instability but also strongly affected by the zonal asymmetric distribution of land-sea thermal contrast. Moreover, before the ISM onset due to the eastward development of the South Asian High(SAH)in the upper troposphere, high potential vorticity is transported to the region over the Arabian Sea.Then a local trumpet-shaped stream field is generated to cause the evident upper divergence-pumping effect which favors the ISM onset. When the upper divergence is vertically coupled with the lower convergence resulted from the aforementioned forced unstable convection development near the southwestern coast of Indian Peninsula, the atmospheric baroclinic unstable development is stimulated and the ISM onset is triggered. | WU GuoXiong LIU BoQi | 2014 | Science China Earth Sciences2014,57,7: | 5
A Comparative Study on the Dominant Factors Responsible for the Weaker-than-expected El Ni?o Event in 2014显示文摘Anomalous warming occurred in the equatorial central-eastern Pacific in early May 2014,attracting much attention to the possible occurrence of an extreme El Ni?o event that year because of its similarity to the situation in early 1997. However, the subsequent variation in sea surface temperature anomalies(SSTAs) during summer 2014 in the tropical Pacific was evidently different to that in 1997,but somewhat similar to the situation of the 1990 aborted El Ni?o event. Based on NCEP(National Centers for Environmental Prediction) oceanic and atmospheric reanalysis data, the physical processes responsible for the strength of El Ni?o events are examined by comparing the dominant factors in 2014 in terms of the preceding instability of the coupled ocean–atmosphere system and westerly wind bursts(WWBs) with those in 1997 and 1990,separately. Although the unstable ocean–atmosphere system formed over the tropical Pacific in the preceding winter of 2014,the strength of the preceding instability was relatively weak. Weak oceanic eastward-propagating downwelling Kelvin waves were forced by the weak WWBs over the equatorial western Pacific in March 2014,as in February 1990. The consequent positive upper-oceanic heat content anomalies in the spring of 2014 induced only weak positive SSTAs in the central-eastern Pacific–unfavorable for the subsequent generation of summertime WWB sequences. Moreover, the equatorial western Pacific was not cooled, indicating the absence of positive Bjerknes feedback in early summer 2014. Therefore, the development of El Ni?o was suspended in summer 2014. | LI Jianying LIU Boqi LI Jiandong MAO Jiangyu | 2015 | Advances in Atmospheric Sciences2015,32,10: | 3
Soil Organic Carbon Stocks of Citrus Orchards in Yongchun County Fujian Province China显示文摘Studies related to the quantitation and distribution of soil organic carbon(C) under different land use types can help to fill the knowledge gaps regarding estimation of the amount of C stored in soils at a global scale. Orchards are an important land use type in southern China; the total area(1.15 × 10~7 ha) of orchards in China comprises approximately 20.5% of the area of all orchards worldwide. We assessed soil organic C stocks(SOCS) in citrus orchards in Yongchun County(consisting of 22 towns), Fujian Province,China in 1982 and 2010. The southeastern part of the county, an area featuring extensive citrus farming with a gently sloping landscape and low rates of water erosion, had the highest SOCS. In contrast, the lowest SCOS was observed in the northern part of the county, where steep hills with severe erosion problems are common and citrus orchards are sparsely distributed. From 1982 to 2010, the mean SOCS in citrus orchards increased from 22.1 to 41.7 Mg ha^(-1), which indicated that current management practices such as fertilization, irrigation, and cultivation enhanced soil C stocks. Further in-depth studies on the effects of these practices on C sequestration would be worthwhile and surveys of SOCS throughout Fujian Province are needed, to support efforts to mitigate global C emission. | WANG Yixiang WENG Boqi TIAN Na ZHONG Zhenmei WANG Mingkuang | 2017 | Pedosphere2017,27,5: | 1

Effects of monsoon onset vortex on heat budget in the mixed layer of the Bay of Bengal显示文摘We investigated the effects of monsoon onset vortex(MOV)on the mixed layer heat budget in the Bay of Bengal(BOB)in spring 2003 using the reanalysis datasets. The results suggest that the solar radiation flux penetrating the mixed layer and the existence of barrier layer are both able to modulate the effects of MOV on the evolution of sea surface temperature(SST)in the BOB.Prior to the formation of BOB MOV,the local SST raised quickly due to mass of solar radiation reaching the sea surface under the clear-sky condition.Meanwhile, since the mixed layer was shallow before the onset of the Asian summer monsoon(ASM),some solar radiation flux could penetrate to directly heat the deeper water, which partly offset the warming effect of shortwave radiation. On the other hand, the in-situ SST started to cool due to the upwelling of cold water when the MOV generated over the BOB,along with the rapidly increased surface wind speed and its resultant deeper mixed layer. As the MOV developed and moved northward, the SST tended to decrease remarkably because of the strong upward surface latent heat flux over the BOB ascribed to the wind-evaporation mechanism. However, the MOV-related precipitation brought more fresh water into the upper ocean to produce a thicker barrier layer, whose thermal barrier effect damped the cooling effect of entrainment upwelling on the decrease tendency of the BOB SST.In other words, the thermal barrier effect could slow down the decreasing trend of the BOB SST even after the onset of ASM,which facilitated the further enhancement of the MOV. | Effects of monsoon onset vortex on heat budget in the mixed layer of the Bay of BengalXU Kang LIU Boqi LIU Yu WANG Weiqiang HE Zhuoqi | 2020 | Journal of Oceanology and Limnology2020,38,6: | 1

Genetic susceptibility loci of lung cancer are associated with malignant risk of pulmonary nodules and improve malignancy diagnosis based on CEA levels显示文摘Objective:The heightened prevalence of pulmonary nodules(PN)has escalated its significance as a public health concern. While the precise identification of high-risk PN carriers for malignancy remains an ongoing challenge, genetic variants hold potentials as determinants of disease susceptibility that can aid in diagnosis.Yet,current understanding of the genetic loci associated with malignant PN(MPN)risk is limited. Methods:A frequency-matched case-control study was performed, comprising 247 MPN cases and 412 benign NP(BNP)controls. We genotyped 11 established susceptibility loci for lung cancer in a Chinese cohort.Loci associated with MPN risk were utilized to compute a polygenic risk score(PRS).This PRS was subsequently incorporated into the diagnostic evaluation of MPNs,with emphasis on serum tumor biomarkers. Results:Loci rs10429489G>A,rs17038564A>G,and rs12265047A>G were identified as being associated with an increased risk of MPNs.The PRS,formulated from the cumulative risk effects of these loci, correlated with the malignant risk of PNs in a dose-dependent fashion.A high PRS was found to amplify the MPN risk by 156%in comparison to a low PRS[odds ratio(OR)=2.56,95%confidence interval(95%CI),1.40−4.67].Notably,the PRS was observed to enhance the diagnostic accuracy of serum carcinoembryonic antigen(CEA)in distinguishing MPNs from BPNs,with diagnostic values rising from 0.716 to 0.861 across low-to high-PRS categories.Further bioinformatics investigations pinpointed rs10429489G>A as an expression quantitative trait locus. Conclusions:Loci rs10429489G>A,rs17038564A>G,and rs12265047A>G contribute to MPN risk and augment the diagnostic precision for MPNs based on serum CEA concentrations. | Zhi Li Liming Lu Yibin Deng Amei Zhuo Fengling Hu Wanwen Sun Guitian Huang Linyuan Liu Boqi Rao Jiachun Lu Lei Yang | 2023 | Chinese Journal of Cancer Research2023,35,5: | 0
