1Corrosion resistance of in-situ growth of nano-sized Mg(OH)2 on micro-arc oxidized magnesium alloy AZ31—Influence of EDTA显示文摘One of the major obstacles for the clinical use of biodegradable magnesium(Mg)-based materials is their high corrosion rate. Micro-arc oxidation(MAO) coatings on Mg alloys provide mild corrosion protection owing to their porous structure. Hence, in this study a dense Mg(OH)2 film was fabricated on MAO-coated Mg alloy AZ31 in an alkaline electrolyte containing ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid disodium(EDTA-2 Na) to reinforce the protection. Surface morphology, chemical composition and growth process of the MAO/Mg(OH)2 hybrid coating were examined using field-emission scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer, X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectrophotometer. Corrosion resistance of the coatings was evaluated via potentiodynamic polarization curves and hydrogen evolution tests. Results manifested that the Mg(OH)2 coating possesses a porous nano-sized structure and completely seals the micro-pores and micro-cracks of the MAO coating.The intermetallic compound of AlMn phase in the substrate plays a key role in the growth of Mg(OH)2 film. The current density of Mg(OH)2-MAO composite coating decreases three orders of magnitude in comparison with that of bare substrate, indicating excellent corrosion resistance. 2Deep learning analysis of defect and phase evolution during electron beam-induced transformations in WS_(2)显示文摘Recent advances in scanning transmission electron microscopy(STEM)allow the real-time visualization of solid-state transformations in materials,including those induced by an electron beam and temperature,with atomic resolution.However,despite the ever-expanding capabilities for high-resolution data acquisition,the inferred information about kinetics and thermodynamics of the process,and single defect dynamics and interactions is minimal.This is due to the inherent limitations of manual ex situ analysis of the collected volumes of data.To circumvent this problem,we developed a deep-learning framework for dynamic STEM imaging that is trained to find the lattice defects and apply it for mapping solid state reactions and transformations in layered WS_(2).The trained deep-learning model allows extracting thousands of lattice defects from raw STEM data in a matter of seconds,which are then classified into different categories using unsupervised clustering methods.We further expanded our framework to extract parameters of diffusion for sulfur vacancies and analyzed transition probabilities associated with switching between different configurations of defect complexes consisting of Mo dopant and sulfur vacancy,providing insight into pointdefect dynamics and reactions.This approach is universal and its application to beam-induced reactions allows mapping chemical transformation pathways in solids at the atomic level.Artem Maksov Ondrej Dyck Kai Wang Kai Xiao David B.Geohegan Bobby G.Sumpter Rama K.Vasudevan Stephen Jesse Sergei V.Kalinin Maxim Ziatdinov 2019npj Computational Materials2019,,1:11

5Systematic review of the prevalence and development of osteoporosis or low bone mineral density and its risk factors in patients with inflammatory bowel disease显示文摘BACKGROUND The inflammatory bowel diseases(IBD),Crohn’s disease(CD)and ulcerative colitis(UC)are chronic,immune-mediated disorders of the digestive tract.IBD is considered to be a risk factor for developing osteoporosis;however current literature on this matter is inconsistent.AIM To assess prevalence and development of osteoporosis and low bone mineral density(BMD),and its risk factors,in IBD patients.METHODS Systematic review of population-based studies.Studies were identified by electronic(January 2018)and manual searches(May 2018).Databases searched included EMBASE and PubMed and abstracts from 2014-2018 presented at the United European Gastroenterology Week,the European Crohn’s and Colitis Organisation congress,and Digestive Disease Week were screened.Studies were eligible for inclusion if they investigated either the prevalence of osteoporosis or osteopenia and/or risk factors for osteoporosis or low BMD in IBD patients.Studies on children under the age of 18 were excluded.Only population-based studies were included.All risk factors for osteoporosis and low BMD investigated in any included article were considered.Study quality and the possibility of bias were analysed using the Newcastle-Ottawa scale.RESULTS Twelve studies including 3661 IBD patients and 12789 healthy controls were included.Prevalence of osteoporosis varied between 4%-9%in studies including both CD and UC patients;2%-9% in studies including UC patients, and 7%-15% instudies including CD patients. Among healthy controls, prevalence ofosteoporosis was 3% and 10% in two studies. CD diagnosis, lower body massindex (BMI), and lower body weight were risk factors associated withosteoporosis or low BMD. Findings regarding gender showed inconsistent results.CD patients had an increased risk for osteoporosis or low BMD over time, whileUC patients did not. Increased age was associated with decreased BMD, and therewas a positive association between weight and BMI and BMD over time. Greatheterogeneity was found in the included studies in terms of study methodologies,definitions and the assessment of osteoporosis, and only a small number ofpopulation-based studies was available.CONCLUSIONThis systematic review found a possible increase of prevalence of osteoporosis inCD cohorts when compared to UC and cohorts including both disease types.Lower weight and lower BMI were predictors of osteoporosis or low BMD in IBDpatients. 7The status of Nrf2-based therapeutics: current perspectives and future prospects显示文摘This mini-review presents the authors' vision on the current status and future trends in the development of neuroprotective agents working via activation of nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2(Nrf2),and in particular,via disruption of Nrf2-Keapl interaction.There are two opposite 'chemical' mechanisms underlying such activation:the first one is a non-specific covalent modification of Keap1 thiols,resulting in side effects of varied severity,and the second one is the shift of the Nrf2-Kelch-like ECH associated protein-1(Keap1) binding equilibrium in the presence of a competitive and chemically benign displacement agent.At this point,no displacement activators exhibit sufficient biological activity in comparison with common Nrf2 activators working via Keapl thiol modification.Hence,the hope in therapeutics is now linked to the FDA approved dimethylfumarate,whose derivative,monomethylfumarate,as we demonstrated recently,is much less toxic but equally biologically potent and an ideal candidate for clinical trials right now.A newly emerging player is a nuclear inhibitor of Nrf2,BTB domain and CNC homolog 1(Bach1).The commercially developed Bachl inhibitors are currently under investigation in our laboratory showing promising results.In our viewpoint,the perfect future drug will present the combination of a displacement activator and Bachl inhibitor to insure safety and efficiency of Nrf2 activation.Irina G. 8Theoretical investigations of electrical transport properties in CoSb3 skutterudites under hydrostatic loadings显示文摘CoSb_3-based skutterudites have been a benchmark mid-temperature thermoelectric material under intensive experimental and theoretical studies for decades.Doping and filling, to the first order, alter the crystal lattice constant of CoSb3 in the context of 'chemical pressure.' In this work, we employed ab initio density functional theory in conjunction with semiclassical Boltzmann transport theory to investigate the mechanical properties and especially how hydrostatic loadings, i.e., 'physical pressure,' impact the electronic band structure, Seebeck coefficient,and power factor of pristine CoSb_3. It is found that hydrostatic pressure enlarges the band gap, suppresses the density of states(DOS) near the valence band edge, and fosters the band convergence between the valley bands and the conduction band minimum(CBM). By contrast,hydrostatic tensile reduces the band gap, increases the DOS near the valence band edge, and diminishes the valley bands near the CBM. Therefore, applying hydrostatic pressure provides an alternative avenue for achieving band convergence to improve thermoelectric properties of N-type CoSb3, which is further supported by our carrier concentration studies. 10Benchmarking graph neural networks for materials chemistry显示文摘Graph neural networks(GNNs)have received intense interest as a rapidly expanding class of machine learning models remarkably well-suited for materials applications.To date,a number of successful GNNs have been proposed and demonstrated for systems ranging from crystal stability to electronic property prediction and to surface chemistry and heterogeneous catalysis.However,a consistent benchmark of these models remains lacking,hindering the development and consistent evaluation of new models in the materials field.Here,we present a workflow and testing platform,MatDeepLearn,for quickly and reproducibly assessing and comparing GNNs and other machine learning models.We use this platform to optimize and evaluate a selection of top performing GNNs on several representative datasets in computational materials chemistry.From our investigations we note the importance of hyperparameter selection and find roughly similar performances for the top models once optimized.We identify several strengths in GNNs over conventional models in cases with compositionally diverse datasets and in its overall flexibility with respect to inputs,due to learned rather than defined representations.Meanwhile several weaknesses of GNNs are also observed including high data requirements,and suggestions for further improvement for applications in materials chemistry are discussed.Victor Fung Jiaxin Zhang Eric Juarez Bobby G.Sumpter 2021npj Computational Materials2021,,1:5

12Gene Expression Profiling of Human Epidermal Keratinocytes in Simulated Microgravity and Recovery Cultures显示文摘Simulated microgravity (SMG) bioreactors and DNA microarray technology are powerful tools to identify 'space genes' that play key roles in cellular response to microgravity. We applied these biotechnology tools to investigate SMG and post-SMG recovery effects on human epidermal keratinocytes by exposing cells to SMG for 3, 4, 9, and 10 d using the high aspect ratio vessel bioreactor followed by recovery culturing for 15, 50, and 60 d in normal gravity. As a result, we identified 162 differentially expressed genes, 32 of which were 'center genes' that were most consistently affected in the time course experiments. Eleven of the center genes were from the integrated stress response pathways and were coordinately down-regulated. Another seven of the center genes, which are all metallothionein MT-I and MT-II isoforms, were coordinately up-regulated. In addition, HLA-G, a key gene in cellular immune response suppression, was found to be significantly up-regulated during the recovery phase. Overall, more than 80% of the differentially expressed genes from the shorter exposures (≤4 d) recovered in 15 d; for longer (≥9 d) exposures, more than 50 d were needed to recover to the impact level of shorter exposures. 13Increased plasma malondialdehyde and fructosamine in anemic H pylori infected patients:Effect of treatment显示文摘AIM: To unravel the possible association of malon-dialdehyde (MDA) and fructosamine in anemic H pylori infected patients and to observe the alteration in MDA and fructosamine levels in these patients after treatment for one month.METHODS: Fructosamine, MDA and glucose were estimated in 22 anemic H pylori infected patients and 16 healthy controls. Hematological parameters were also evaluated in both the groups using Sysmex-K-100 automated cell counter. The H pylori infected patients were randomly divided into two groups. H pylori infected patients in GroupⅠreceived both iron supplementation and anti-H pylori therapy, while patients in Group Ⅱ received only iron supplementation. All the biochemical and hematological parameters were estimated after one month of treatment. RESULTS: In anemic H pylori infected patients, while MDA (5.41 ± 2.16 vs 2.26 ± 0.50; P < 0.05) and fructosamine (2.64 ± 0.93 vs 1.60 ± 0.35; P < 0.05) were significantly increased, iron (32.72 ± 14.93 vs 110.25 ± 26.58; P < 0.05), hemoglobin (6.9 ± 2.6 vs 12.66 ± 0.74; P < 0.05) and ferritin (28.82 ± 16.27 vs 140.43 ± 30.72; P < 0.05) levels were significantly decreased compared with the controls. With partial correlation analysis, fructosamine was found to have a significant positive correlation with MDA. In GroupⅠ, while MDA level decreased significantly (3.11 ± 1.73 vs 5.50 ± 2.46; P < 0.05), there was a significant increase in iron (84.09 ± 29.51 vs 36.09 ± 17.81; P < 0.05), hemoglobin (10.40 ± 1.11 vs 7.42 ± 1.90; P < 0.05) and ferritin (116.91 ± 63.34 vs 30.46 ± 17.81; P < 0.05) levels after one month. There was no significant change in the levels of fructosamine in groupⅠafter treatment. Similarly, no significant alterations were noted in the levels of MDA, fructosamine, hemoglobin or ferritin in Group Ⅱ patients after one month of treatment.CONCLUSION: An increased level of fructosamine and MDA was found in anemic H pylori infected patients. Present data supports the premise that lipid peroxides per se do play a role in the glycation of plasma proteins. Pregnancy-associated gastric cancer is an extremely rare condition and can be difficult to diagnose, due to the absence or misinterpretation of symptoms as pregnancy-related. Diagnostic aids, such as a basic chemistry panel and imaging techniques, may not show any abnormalities. 16蜂疗致蜂毒过敏的临床特征及影响因素显示文摘目的调查接受蜂疗的人群中蜂毒过敏的患病率和临床特征,并分析其危险因素。方法 2017年12月至2018年1月在石家庄、广州、深圳对开展蜂疗的中医医院进行横断面调查。对接受蜂疗的患者进行问卷调查,并对出现过大局部反应、全身反应的受访者进行蜂毒变应原皮肤点刺试验(SPT)。结果共调查127例接受蜂疗者,其中3例因未接受SPT而排除,共纳入124例,包括石家庄(华北地区)77例,广州和深圳(华南地区)47例。女性占68.5%;平均年龄(50.8±16.6)岁。41例在蜂疗中出现变态反应并接受了SPT;36例经SPT确诊为蜂毒过敏,占29%,其中5例出现过大局部反应的受访者SPT结果阴性,纳入非变态反应组。大局部反应者22例,占17.7%,全身反应者14例,占11.3%。35.7%(5/14)全身反应者曾经历过大局部反应。在调整了蜂疗起始年龄、性别、地域、基础疾病、变态反应等因素后,蜂疗频率是蜂毒过敏的影响因素(OR=0.838,95%CI:0.708~0.991)。结论接受蜂疗人群中蜂毒过敏情况不容忽视,对于高危人群尤需密切随访并配备急救药物和设备,增加蜂疗频率是蜂毒过敏的保护因素。崔乐 王子熹 关凯 Bobby Quentin Lanier 李丽莎 徐迎阳 尹佳 徐涛 2018中华临床免疫和变态反应杂志2018,12,3:3
