1Modified TiO_(2) based photocatalysts for improved air and health quality显示文摘Photocatalysis with modified titania is a promising approach to improve both air and health quality.Modified titania with novel photocatalytic properties under indoor light irradiation leads to smart coatings,which are benchmark materials suitable for their indoor applications.It is generally accepted that the photocatalytic activity is affected by the light absorption,charge creation/recombination rate and surface reactivity.In this contribution we focus on modified TiO_(2) as catalyst in heterogeneous photocatalytic processes and address the efficiency of TiO_(2)-based building and construction materials on the removal of environmental pollutants indoors and outdoors.We also present data on the presence of eventually formed,toxicologically relevant and harmful by-products as the result of the photo-induced degradation of pollutants in an effort for better evaluation of induced risks for human health from the application of TiO_(2) modified materials.Finally,we present recent results on the disinfection performance of these material and the inactivation of severe pathogens contained in water and indoor air environments.Vassilios Binas Danae Venieri Dimitrios Kotzias George Kiriakidis 2017Journal of Materiomics2017,3,1:6
2Photocatalytic oxidation of gaseous benzene,toluene and xylene under UV and visible irradiation over Mn-doped TiO_(2)nanoparticles显示文摘The photocatalytic oxidation of gaseous benzene,toluene and xylene(BTX)over un-doped,0.1 and 1 wt%Mn-TiO_(2)nanoparticles under ultraviolet and visible irradiation was studied in atmosphere of synthetic air or inert gas.The photocatalytic decomposition efficiency and the oxidation products were determined using a Static Photochemical Reactor coupled with FTIR spectroscopy.BTX underwent efficient decomposition over Mn-TiO_(2)photocatalysts under UV irradiation,more with oxygen presence and less without oxygen.More important toluene and xylene went substantial decomposition over 0.1 mol%Mn-TiO_(2)under visible irradiation with oxygen presence.The main final oxidation products in the UV photocatalysis of BTX were CO_(2),CO and H2O,with CO_(2) and CO yields 4 and 2 respectively.The conversion percentage of benzene,toluene,and xylene to CO_(2) were 63.6%,56.4%,51.8%,and to CO 29%,26.5%,23.2%,respectively.In the visible photocatalysis of toluene and xylene the yields of CO were insignificant.Formation of carbon containing deposits on TiO_(2)surfaces was observed after extensive UV photocatalysis of toluene and xylene,and such by-products surface coverage may reduce the photocatalytic activity of TiO_(2)samples.Some aspects of the photocatalytic mechanism were examined.Vassilios Binas Vassilis Stefanopoulos George Kiriakidis Panos Papagiannakopoulos 2019Journal of Materiomics2019,5,1:5
3Bioassay-guided isolation of novel and selective urease inhibitors from Diospyros lotus显示文摘Two new dimeric naphthoquinones, 5′,8′-dihydroxy-6,6′-dimethyl-7,3′-binaphthyl-1,4,1′,4′-tetraone(1; Di-naphthodiospyrol D) and 5′,8′-dihydroxy-5,8-dimethoxy-6,6′-dimethyl-7,3′-binaphthyl-1,4,1′,4′-tetraone(2; Di-naphthodiospyrol E), along with known naphthoquinones diospyrin(3) and 8-hydroxy diospyrin(4) were isolated from the chloroform fraction of extract of Diospyros lotus roots. Their structures were elucidated by advanced spectroscopic analyses, including HSQC, HMBC, NOESY, and J-resolved NMR experiments. The fractions and compounds 1-4 were evaluated for urease activity and phosphodiesterase-Ⅰ, carbonic anhydrase-Ⅱ and α-chymotrypsin enzyme inhibitory activities. Compounds 1 and 2 and their corresponding fractions showed significant and selective inhibitory effects on urease activities. The IC_(50) values of 1 and 2 were 260.4 ± 6.37 and 381.4 ± 4.80 μmol·L-1, respectively, using thiourea(IC_(50) = 21 ± 0.11 μmol·L^(-1)) as the standard inhibitor. 4Biodegradation of natural and synthetic estrogens in moving bed bioreactor显示文摘Estrogen hormones as a group of endocrine disruptive compounds(EDC) can interfere with endocrine system in humans and animals. The goal of this study was to investigate the elimination rate of Estrone(El), 17β-estradiol(E2) and 17α-ethinyl estradiol(EE2) in Moving Bed Bioreactor(MBBR). These analytes extracted by Dispersive Liquid-Liquid Microextraction(DLLME) technique, followed by derivatization, and detected by GC/MS. Estrogen removal efficiency in MBBR improved at high solid retention times(SRTs), which notion is owing to development of nitrification. Estrogen specific removal rate was between 0.22-1.45 μg·(g VSS)^(-1)·d^(-1) for natural and synthetic hormones. The adsorption rate was 0.9%-3.2%, 0-1.3%, and 0.7%-5.7% for El, E2, and EE2, respectively. In addition, the biodegradation rates were more than 95% for these compounds. These results illustrated that in MBBR,the biodegradation and the adsorption to biomass are considered as two significant routes for elimination of estrogenic compounds. 5Six-dimensional potential energy surface of the dissociative chemisorption of HCl on Au(111) using neural networks显示文摘We constructed a six-dimensional potential energy surface(PES)for the dissociative chemisorption of HCl on Au(111)using the neural networks method based on roughly 70000 energies obtained from extensive density functional theory(DFT)calculations.The resulting PES is accurate and smooth,based on the small fitting errors and good agreement between the fitted PES and the direct DFT calculations.Time-dependent wave packet calculations show that the potential energy surface is very well converged with respect to the number of DFT data points,as well as to the fitting process.The dissociation probabilities of HCl initially in the ground rovibrational state from six-dimensional quantum dynamical calculations are quite diferent from the four-dimensional fixed-site calculations,indicating it is essential to perform full-dimensional quantum dynamical studies for the title molecule-surface interaction system.LIU TianHui FU BiNa ZHANG Dong H 2014Science China Chemistry2014,57,1:2

14Evaluation of the effects of Alkyl Phenolic compounds on kinetic coefficients and biomass activity in MBBR by means of respirometric techniques显示文摘The presence of Alkyl Phenols(APs) in aquatic systems is considered as one of the environmental concerns in recent decades which are generally used as surfactants. APs are endocrine disruptors and estrogen-mimicking,causing harmful effects such as feminization and carcinogenesis on aquatic environment and human health.The most commercially important APs are 4-Nonyl Phenol(4-NP) and 4-tert-OctylP henol(4-t-OP). Moving bed biofilm reactor(MBBR), which combined attached and suspended growth advantages, is an advanced biological treatment process for municipal and industrial wastewaters that has drawn considerable attention from many researchers to remove toxic pollutants from wastewater. The aim of this research was to evaluate Bacterial activities and kinetic coefficients in the presence of APs. This study was carried out using laboratory-scale MBBR fed with synthetic wastewater containing 4-NP and 4-t-OP. The reactor was operated at different loads of chemical oxygen demand(COD) and APs and different hydraulic retention time(HRT). The respirometric technique was applied to investigate the effect of APs on heterotrophic and autotrophic activity and kinetic coefficients in biomass obtained from MBBR. Respirometric technique demonstrates a reliable tool in order to assess the biofilm kinetic coefficients and biomass viability to insert in the mathematical models. The calculated kinetic parameters were in the range of conventional and extended aeration activated sludge processes.
