| 2 | Terlipressin and hepatorenal syndrome: What is important for nephrologists and hepatologists显示文摘Hepatorenal syndrome (HRS) is a reversible form of functional renal failure that occurs with advanced hepatic cirrhosis and liver failure. Despite mounting research in HRS, its etiology and medical therapy has not been resolved. HRS encompasses 2 distinct types. Type 1 is characterized by the rapid development of renal failure that occurs within 2 wk and involves a doubling of initial serum creatinine. Type 2 has a more insidious onset and is often associated with ascites. Animal studies have shown that both forms, in particular type 1 HRS, are often precipitated by bacterial infections and cir-culatory changes. The prognosis for HRS remains very poor. Type 1 and 2 both have an expected survival time of 2 wk and 6 mo, respectively. Progression of liver cir-rhosis and the resultant portal hypertension leads to the pooling of blood in the splanchnic vascular bed. The ensuing hyperdynamic circulation causes an ineffective circulatory volume which subsequently activates neuro-hormonal systems. Primarily the sympathetic nervoussystem and the renin angiotensin system are activated, which, in the early stages of HRS, maintain adequate circulation. Both advanced cirrhosis and prolonged ac-tivation of neurohormonal mechanisms result in fatal complications. Locally produced nitric oxide may have the potential to induce a deleterious vasodilatory effect on the splanchnic circulation. Currently medical therapy is aimed at reducing splanchnic vasodilation to resolve the ineffective circulation and maintain good renal per-fusion pressure. Terlipressin, a vasopressin analogue, has shown potential benefit in the treatment of HRS. It prolongs both survival time and has the ability to re-verse HRS in the majority of patients. | 7 | Screen printing of silver nanowires: balancing conductivity with transparency while maintaining flexibility and stretchability显示文摘Printing metal nanowires are particularly attractive as compared to conventional coating methods due to the ease of processing,direct patterning,and large-scale fabrication capability.However,it is still challenging to print metal nanowire patterns that simultaneously have high conductivity,high transparency,flexibility,and stretchability.Three steps have been taken in this work to balance the transparency and conductivity of the screen-printed flexible and stretchable silver nanowire films,(1)selection of the ink formulation,(2)optimization of the printing parameters,and(3)posttreatment with a laser.The as-obtained silver nanowire patterns are large-area and demonstrate an ultralow sheet resistance of 1.9 ohm/sq,high transmittance(73%)at the wavelength of 550 nm,and an ultrahigh figure of merit(~136)as compared to the printed silver nanowire electrodes in the literature.The screenprinted transparent patterns exhibit excellent electrical stability and mechanical repeatability when subjected to 1000 bending cycles with a bending radius of 28 mm and 1000 stretch-release cycles with 10%strain,which makes the transparent patterns suitable for the fabrication of flexible,transparent microwave absorbers.The absorption performance of the prepared frequency selective surface absorbers indicates no obvious degradation after various manipulating configurations and multiple bending and stretching cycles.The results are promising enough to make this ink and screen-printing process suitable for many applications of flexible,stretchable,and transparent electronics. | Weiwei Li Shuai Yang Atif Shamim | 2019 | npj Flexible Electronics2019,3,1: | 5 |

| 10 | Prevalence of unsuspected thyroid nodules in adults on contrast enhanced 16-and 64-MDCT of the chest显示文摘AIM: To determine the prevalence of unsuspected thyroid nodules on contrast enhanced 16and 64-modified discrete cosine transform (MDCT) of the chest, in a population of adult outpatients imaged for indications other than thyroid disease. METHODS: This retrospective study involved review of intravascular contrast-enhanced MDCT scans of the chest from 3077 consecutive adult outpatients, to identify unsuspected thyroid nodules. Exclusion criteria included history of thyroid cancer, known thyroid nodules or thyroid disease and risk factors for thyroid cancer, as evidenced by their medical records. One of 9 radiologists recorded number of nodules, location and bidirectional measurement of largest nodule, as well as amount of thyroid visualized on the chest computed tomography (CT). Presence of nodule was correlated with age, gender, race and percentage of thyroid imaged. RESULTS: A total of 2510 (2510/3077 or 81.6%) study subjects were included in the data analysis; among them,one or more nodules were identified in 629 subjects (629/2510 or 25.1%), with 242 (242/629 or 38.5%) having multiple nodules. Patients with nodule(s) were significantly older than those without (64 ± 13 years vs 58 ± 14 years, P < 0.0001), and female gender was associated with presence of nodule(s) (373/1222 or 30.5% vs 256/1288 or 19.9%, P < 0.0001). Women were also more likely having multiple nodules (167/373 or 44.8%) compared to men (75/256 or 29.3%, P < 0.0001). The majority of nodules (427/629 or 67.9%) were less than 1 cm. | 12 | Viral respiratory infections among Hajj pilgrims in 2013显示文摘Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus(MERS-Co V) has emerged in the Arabian Gulf region, with its epicentre in Saudi Arabia, the host of the ‘Hajj' which is the world's the largest mass gathering. Transmission of MERS-Co V at such an event could lead to its rapid worldwide dissemination. Therefore, we studied the frequency of viruses causing influenza-like illnesses(ILI) among participants in a randomised controlled trial at the Hajj 2013. We recruited 1038 pilgrims from Saudi Arabia, Australia and Qatar during the first day of Hajj and followed them closely for four days. A nasal swab was collected from each pilgrim who developed ILI. Respiratory viruses were detected using multiplex RT-PCR. ILI occurred in 112/1038(11%) pilgrims. Their mean age was 35 years, 49(44%) were male and 35(31%) had received the influenza vaccine pre-Hajj. Forty two(38%) pilgrims had laboratory-confirmed viral infections; 28(25%) rhinovirus, 5(4%) influenza A, 2(2%) adenovirus, 2(2%) human coronavirus OC43/229 E, 2(2%) parainfluenza virus 3, 1(1%) parainfluenza virus 1, and 2(2%) dual infections. No MERS-Co V was detected in any sample. Rhinovirus was the commonest cause of ILI among Hajj pilgrims in 2013. The controlled Kerr nonlinear signal of probe light beam in a dielectric medium is used to generate SPPs at the interface of dielectric and graphene medium. The positive, negative absorption, and dispersion properties of SPPs are modified and controlled by the control and Kerr fields. A large amplification(negative absorption) is noted for SPPs under the Kerr nonlinearity. The normal/anomalous slope of dispersion and propagation length of SPPs is modified and controlled with Kerr nonlinearity. This leads to significant variation in slow and fast SPP propagation. | 14 | Enhanced adsorptive removal of Cr(VI)in aqueous solution by polyethyleneimine modified palygorskite显示文摘Polyethyleneimine(PEI)modified palygorskite(Pal)was used for the adsorption of Cr(VI)in aqueous solution.The absorbent was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR)and thermogravimetric analysis(TGA).Characterized results confirmed that the Pal has been successfully modified by PEI.The modification of PEI increased the Cr(VI)adsorption performance of the Pal by the adsorption combined reduction mechanism,and amino groups of the adsorbent play the main role in the enhanced Cr(VI)adsorption.The maximum adsorption capacity was 51.10 mg·g^-1 at pH4.0 and 25°C.The adsorption kinetics of Cr(VI)on the adsorbent conforms to the Langmuir isotherm model.The maximum adsorption occurs at pH3,and then the adsorption capacity of PEI-Pal was decreased with the increase of p H values.The adsorption kinetics of Cr(VI)on PEI-Pal was modeled with pseudo-second-order model.The addition of Cl^-,SO4^2-and PO4^3-reduced the Cr(VI)adsorption by competition with Cr(VI)for the active sites of PEI-Pal.The Cr(VI)saturated PEI-Pal can be regenerated in alkaline solution,and the adsorption capacity can still be maintained at 30.44 mg·g^-1 after 4 cycles.The results demonstrate that PEI-Pal can be used as a potential adsorbent of Cr(VI)in aqueous solutions. | Jiahong Wang Tongtong Sun Atif Saleem Yao Chen | 2020 | Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2020,28,10: | 3 |
| 15 | Coat-and-print patterning of silver nanowires for flexible and transparent electronics显示文摘Silver nanowires(Ag NWs)possess excellent optoelectronic properties,which have led to many technology-focused applications of transparent and flexible electronics.Many of these applications require patterning of Ag NWs into desired shapes,for which maskbased and printing-based techniques have been developed and widely used.However,there are still several limitations associated to these techniques.These limitations,such as complicated patterning procedures,limited patterning area,and compromised optical transparency,hamper the efficient fabrication of high-performance Ag NW patterns.Here,we propose a coat-and-print approach for effectively patterning Ag NWs.We printed a polymer-based ink on the spin-coated Ag NW films.The ink acts as a protective layer to help remove excess Ag NWs from the substrate and then dissolves itself into an organic solvent.In this way,we can take advantage of both coating-based techniques(lead to Ag NWs with high transparency)and printing-based techniques(efficiently pattern diverse shapes).The resultant Ag NW patterns exhibit comparable conductivity(sheet resistance:7.1 to 30 Ohm/sq)and transparency(transmittance:84 to 95%atλ=550 nm)to those made by conventional coating methods.In addition,the patterned Ag NWs exhibit robust mechanical stability and reliability,surviving extensive bending and peeling tests.Due to higher conductivity,efficient patterning ability and inherent transparency,this material system and application method is highly suitable for transparent and flexible electronics.As a proof of concept,this research demonstrates a wide-band antenna,operating in the mm-wave range that includes the 5G communication band.The proposed antenna exhibits a wide bandwidth of 26 GHz(from 17.9 GHz to 44 GHz),robust return loss under 1000 cyclic bending(bending radius of 3.5 mm),and decent transparency over the entire visible wavelength(86.8%transmittance atλ=550 nm).This work’s promising results indicate that this method can be adapted for roll-to-roll manufacturing to efficiently produce patterned and optically transparent devices. | Weiwei Li Azat Meredov Atif Shamim | 2019 | npj Flexible Electronics2019,3,1: | 3 |
| 16 | 斑衣蜡蝉若虫寄生蜂地理种群遗传差异及早期快速检测显示文摘【目的】明确不同地理种群斑衣蜡蝉Lycorma delicatula若虫寄生蜂种群遗传差异,实现若虫被寄生早期的快速准确检测,以评估其对斑衣蜡蝉种群的控制作用。【方法】利用DNA条形码技术获得不同地理种群斑衣蜡蝉若虫寄生蜂COI和28S rDNA序列,利用K2P模型计算不同地理种群间的遗传距离,以邻接(neighbor-joining,NJ)法构建系统发育树;基于COI序列设计种特异性PCR(SS-PCR)引物,利用SS-PCR对斑衣蜡蝉若虫DNA进行扩增,测定其体内是否有中华螯蜂Dryinus sinicus寄生;利用目测法观察和PCR扩增测定寄生蜂对不同采样点斑衣蜡蝉若虫的寄生率。【结果】经鉴定,不同地理种群斑衣蜡蝉若虫寄生蜂为中华螯蜂,该寄生蜂COI序列共检测到16个单倍型,28S rDNA序列共检测到4个单倍型。不同地理种群间中华螯蜂遗传距离在0.00691~0.01310之间。邻接法构建的系统发育树显示不同地理种群中华螯蜂均聚于一枝。基于COI序列设计的SS-PCR引物对中华螯蜂成虫、幼虫均具有良好的扩增效果,最低检测阈值为0.000005 ng/μL DNA。利用SS-PCR测定中华螯蜂对各采样点斑衣蜡蝉若虫的寄生率为22.54%~60.00%,显著高于目测统计的结果(5.63%~36.98%)。【结论】不同中华螯蜂地理种群间遗传差异较小;SS-PCR引物可用于不同地区中华螯蜂对斑衣蜡蝉早期寄生率的快速检测。 | 辛蓓 Atif MANZOOR 曹亮明 王小艺 | 2020 | 昆虫学报2020,63,2: | 3 |
| 17 | Multiple Deep-Belief-Network-Based Spectral-Spatial Classification of Hyperspectral Images显示文摘A deep-learning-based feature extraction has recently been proposed for HyperSpectral Images(HSI)classification. A Deep Belief Network(DBN), as part of deep learning, has been used in HSI classification for deep and abstract feature extraction. However, DBN has to simultaneously deal with hundreds of features from the HSI hyper-cube, which results into complexity and leads to limited feature abstraction and performance in the presence of limited training data. Moreover, a dimensional-reduction-based solution to this issue results in the loss of valuable spectral information, thereby affecting classification performance. To address the issue, this paper presents a Spectral-Adaptive Segmented DBN(SAS-DBN) for spectral-spatial HSI classification that exploits the deep abstract features by segmenting the original spectral bands into small sets/groups of related spectral bands and processing each group separately by using local DBNs. Furthermore, spatial features are also incorporated by first applying hyper-segmentation on the HSI. These results improved data abstraction with reduced complexity and enhanced the performance of HSI classification. Local application of DBN-based feature extraction to each group of bands reduces the computational complexity and results in better feature extraction improving classification accuracy. In general, exploiting spectral features effectively through a segmented-DBN process and spatial features through hyper-segmentation and integration of spectral and spatial features for HSI classification has a major effect on the performance of HSI classification. | 20 | Bed planting of wheat(Triticum aestivum L.)improves nitrogen use efficiency and grain yield compared to flat planting显示文摘Conventional flat planting is commonly used for growing wheat in Pakistan and the crop is irrigated by flood irrigation, but it leads to ineffective use of applied nitrogen owing to poor aeration and leaching and volatilization losses. The practice also results in greater crop lodging, lower water use efficiency, and crusting of the soil surface. In contrast, bed planting of wheat not only saves water but improves fertilizer use efficiency and grain yield. Three years of pooled data from the present study showed that wheat planting on beds and nitrogen application at 120 kg ha-1produced 15.06% higher grain yield than flat planting at the same nitrogen rate. Similarly, 25.04%, 15.02%, 14.59%, and 29.83% higher nitrogen uptake, nitrogen use, and agronomic and recovery efficiencies, respectively, were recorded for bed compared to flat planting. Wheat planting on beds with a nitrogen application of80 kg ha-1gave a yield similar to that of flat planting with 120 kg ha-1nitrogen.
