1Xeroderma pigmentosum group D 751 polymorphism as a predictive factor in resected gastric cancer treated with chemo-radiotherapy显示文摘AIM: To evaluate the potential association of xeroderma pigmentosum group D (XPD) codon 751 variant with outcome after chemo-radiotherapy in patients with resected gastric cancer. METHODS: We used PCR-RFLP to evaluate the genetic XPD Lys751Gln polymorphisms in 44 patients with stage Ⅲ (48%) and Ⅳ (20%) gastric cancer treated with surgery following radiation therapy plus 5-fluorouracil/ leucovorin based chemotherapy. RESULTS: Statistical analysis showed that 75% (12 of 16) of relapse patients showed Lys/Lys genotype more frequently (P = 0.042). The Lys polymorphism was an independent predictor of high-risk relapse-free survival from Cox analysis (HR: 3.07, 95% CI: 1.07-8.78, P = 0.036) and Kaplan-Meir test (P = 0.027, log-rank test). 3A half century (1961-2011) of applying microsurgery to experimental liver research显示文摘The development of microsurgery has been dependent on experimental animals. Microsurgery could be a very valuable technique to improve experimental models of liver diseases. Microdissection and microsutures are the two main microsurgical techniques that can be considered for classifying the experimental models developed for liver research in the rat. Partial portal vein ligation, extrahepatic cholestasis and hepatectomies are all models based on microdissection. On the other hand, in portacaval shunts, orthotopic liver transplantation and partial heterotopic liver transplantation, the microsuture techniques stand out. By reducing surgical complications, these microsurgical techniques allow for improving the resulting experimental models. If good experimental models for liver research are successfully developed, the results obtained from their study might be particularly useful in patients with liver disease. 4Testing and numerical simulation of a medium strength rock material under unconfined compression loading显示文摘This study aims to numerically and experimentally investigate the response of a medium strength rock material under unconfined compression loading up to failure. The unconfined compressive strength(UCS) is one of the most important parameters in characterising rock material behaviour. Hence the UCS is crucial in understanding the failure mechanism of fractured rocks. An effective approach to determine the UCS and to investigate the behaviours of rock materials under unconfined compression is essential in the majority of research fields of rock mechanics. The experimental configuration for the unconfined compression test, suggested by the protocols of the ASTM standard, has some limitations which affect the accuracy in determination of the real UCS. Among several alternative configurations proposed, the Mogi's configuration seems to be the most appropriate one. Therefore, the ASTM and Mogi's configurations were used to perform the tests on a medium strength rock material, i.e. Pietra Serena sandstone. The results using two configurations were discussed in terms of the differences. The tests were also replicated in LSDYNA using a finite element method(FEM) coupled smooth particle hydrodynamics(SPH) technique.This technique is employed in this study due to its capabilities to cope with large deformation issues related to the rocks. An advanced material model, called the Karagozian and Case Concrete(KCC) model,is implemented in the numerical simulations. The KCC model consists of three independent fixed failure surfaces and it can consider the damage accumulation based on the current state of stress among these failure surfaces. An equation-of-state(EOS) is used in conjunction with KCC material model for decoupling the volumetric and deviatoric responses. The numerical and experimental results were finally compared with the focus on the stress-strain diagram and the failure patterns. 5The importance of avoiding unnecessary right ventricular pacing in clinical practice显示文摘Symptomatic bradycardia is effectively treated with the implantation of a cardiac pacemaker. Although a highly successful therapy, during recent years there has been a focus on the negative effects associated with longterm pacing of the apex of the right ventricle(RV). It has been shown in both experimental and clinical studies that RV pacing leads to ventricular dyssynchrony, similar to that of left bundle branch block, with subsequent detrimental effects on cardiac structure and function, and in some cases adverse clinical outcomes such as atrial fibrillation, heart failure and death. There is substantial evidence that patients with reduced left ventricular function(LVEF) are at particular high risk of suffering the detrimental clinical effects of long-term RV pacing. The evidence is, however, incomplete, coming largely from subanalyses of pacemaker and implantable cardiac defibrillator studies. In this group of patients with reduced LVEF and an expected high amount of RV pacing, biventricular pacing(cardiac resynchronization therapy) devices can prevent the negative effects of RV pacing and reduce ventricular dyssynchrony. Therefore, cardiac resynchronization therapy has emerged as an attractive option with promising results and more clinical studies are underway. 7Preparation and Characterization of Flexible, Transparent and Thermally Stable Aromatic Co-polyamides显示文摘Two aromatic co-polyamides were synthesized combining two diacid monomers containing bulky pendant groups, 5-(9,10-dihydro-9,10-ethanoanthracene-11,12-dicarboximido)isophthalic acid(DEAIA) and 5-tert-butylisophthalic acid(TERT), with 4,4′-(hexafluoroisopropylidene)dianiline(HFA) or 2,3,5,6-tetramethyl-1,4-phenylenediamine(Durene) by direct polycondensation. The structures of the obtained aromatic co-polyamides were confirmed by FTIR, Raman and 1 H-NMR. The co-copolyamide films, DHTH and DDTD, exhibited rms-roughness values between 0.94 and 1.60 nm, respectively. Moreover, they presented good thermal stability up to300 °C. Young's moduli of the co-polyamide films were between 4.1 and 4.3 GPa. X-ray diffraction results showed that the co-polyamide films were amorphous due to the incorporation of both bulky pendant groups, tert-butyl and dibenzobarrelene. 8Challenges in microRNAs’ targetome prediction and validation显示文摘MicroRNAs(miRNAs)are small RNA molecules with important roles in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression.In recent years,the predicted number of miRNAs has skyrocketed,largely as a consequence of high-throughput sequencing technologies becoming ubiquitous.This dramatic increase in miRNA candidates poses multiple challenges in terms of data deposition,curation,and validation.Although multiple databases containing miRNA annotations and targets have been developed,ensuring data quality by validating miRNA-target interactions requires the efforts of the research community.In order to generate databases containing biologically active miRNAs,it is imperative to overcome a multitude of hurdles,including restricted miRNA expression patterns,distinct miRNA biogenesis machineries,and divergent miRNA-mRNA interaction dynamics.In the present review,we discuss recent advances and limitations in miRNA prediction,identification,and validation.Lastly,we focus on the most enriched neuronal miRNA,miR-124,and its gene regulatory network in human neurons,which has been revealed using a combined computational and experimental approach.Jesus Eduardo Rojo Arias Volker Busskamp 2019Neural Regeneration Research2019,14,10:3
9Perfluorocarbon in vitreoretinal surgery and preoperative bevacizumab in diabetic tractional retinal detachment显示文摘AIM: To describe the en bloc perfluorodissection(EBPD) technique and to demonstrate the applicabilityof using preoperative intravitreal bevacizumab duringsmall-gauge vitreoretinal surgery(23-gauge transconjunctival sutureless vitrectomy) in eyes with advancedproliferative diabetic retinopathy(PDR) with tractionalretinal detachment(TRD).METHODS: This is a prospective, interventional caseseries. Participants included 114(eyes) with advancedproliferative diabetic retinopathy and TRD. EBPD wasperformed in 114 eyes(consecutive patients) during23-gauge vitrectomy with the utilization of preoperativebevacizumab(1.25 mg/-0.05 mL). Patients mean age was 45 years(range, 21-85 years). Surgical time had a mean of 55 min(Range, 25-85 min). Mean follow up of this group of patients was 24 mo(range, 12-32 mo). Main outcome measures included best-corrected visual acuity(BCVA), retinal reattachment, and complications.RESULTS: Anatomic success occurred in 100%(114/-114) of eyes. Significant visual improvement [≥ 2 Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy Study(ETDRS) lines] was obtained in 69.2%(79/-114), in 26 eyes(22.8%) BCVA remained stable, and in 8 eyes(7%) BCVA decreased(≥ 2 ETDRS lines). Final BCVA was 20/-50 or better in 24% of eyes, between 20/-60 and 20/-400 in 46% of eyes, and worse than 20/-400 in 30% of eyes. Complications included cataract in 32(28%) eyes, iatrogenic retinal breaks in 9(7.8%) eyes, vitreous hemorrhage requiring another procedure in 7(6.1%) eyes, and phthisis bulbi in 1(0.9%) eye.CONCLUSION: This study demonstrates the usefulne-ss of using preoperative intravitreal bevacizumab and EBPD during smallgauge vitreoretinal surgery in eyes with TRD in PDR.J Fernando Arevalo Martin A Serrano Juan D Arias 2014World Journal of Diabetes2014,5,5:3
10Feasibility of using electrokinetics and nanomaterials to stabilize and improve collapsible soils显示文摘Loess as a subcategory of collapsible soils is a well-known aeolian deposit generally characterized as a highly-porous medium with relatively low natural density and water content and a high percentage of fine-grained particles.Such collapsible soil sustains large stresses under a dry condition with natural water content.However,it can experience high and relatively sudden decreases in its volume once it reaches a certain water content under a certain load and therefore,the natural condition of the soil might not be suitable for construction if the possibility of the exposure of the soil to excessive water exists during the lifetime of the project.This research presents the utilization of an innovative method for stabilization and improvement of Gorgan loessial soil.This method uses electrokinetics and nanomaterials to instigate additives to move through soil pores,as an in situ remedial measure.To assess the acceptability of this measure,the deformability and strength characteristics of the improved collapsible soil are measured and compared with those of the unimproved soil,implementing several unsaturated oedometer tests under constant vertical stress and varying matric suction.The result emphasizes the importance of the matric suction on the behavior of both improved and unimproved soils.The test results indicate that the resistance of the soil was highly dependent on the water content and matric suction of the soil.The oedometer tests on samples improved by 3%lime and 5%nanomaterials show considerable improvement of the collapse potential.Results also reveal that stabilized samples experience notably lower volume decrease under the same applied stresses.Arash Hosseini S.Mohsen Haeri Siavash Mahvelati Aria Fathi 2019Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2019,11,5:3

12Numerical Investigation of Contra Rotating Vertical-Axis Tidal-Current Turbine显示文摘In this study,the performance of a contra rotating vertical-axis tidal-current turbine was investigated.The incompressible unsteady Reynolds-averagedNavier-Stokes(U-RANS)equations were solved via two-dimensional(2D)numerical simulation using ANSYS Fluent computational fluid dynamics(CFD)code.An algorithm known as SIMPLE from the CFD code was used to calculate the pressure-velocity coupling and second-order finite-volume discretization for all the transport equations.The base turbine model was validated using the available experimental data.Three given scenarios for the contra rotating turbine were modeled.The contra rotating turbine performs better in a low tip speed ratio(TSR)than in a high TSR operation.In a high TSR operation,the contra rotating turbine inefficiently operates,surviving to rotate in the chaotic flow distribution.Thus,it is recommended to use contra rotating turbine as a part of new design to increase the performance of a vertical-axis tidal-current turbine with a lower TSR.Dendy Satrio I Ketut Aria Pria Utama Mukhtasor 2018Journal of Marine Science and Application2018,17,2:2

The nature of the acidity resulted in significant changes in the reaction mechanism. Lewis acid sites promote the formation of xylulose, while Br nsted acid sites are required to further dehydrate the sugar to furfural. Amberlyst 70 in water/toluene at 175 ℃ showed lower activity but gave a higher furfural yield. Using N2 as the stripping agent considerably improved the furfural yield and product purity in the stripped stream. 16Subcutaneous implantable defibrillator: State-of-the art 2013显示文摘The subcutaneous implantable cardioverter-defibrillator(S-ICD)has recently been approved for commercial use in Europe,New Zealand and the United States.It is comprised of a pulse generator,placed subcutaneously in a left lateral position,and a parasternal subcutaneous lead-electrode with two sensing electrodes separated by a shocking coil.Being an entirely subcutaneous system it avoids important periprocedural and long-term complications associated with transvenous implantable cardioverter-defibrillator(TV-ICD)systems as well as the need for fluoroscopy during implant surgery.Suitable candidates include pediatric patients with congenital heart disease that limits intracavitary lead placements,those with obstructed venous access,chronic indwelling catheters or high infection risk,as well as young patients with electrical heart disease(e.g.,Brugada Syndrome,long QT syndrome,and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy).Nevertheless,given the absence of intracavitary leads,the S-ICD is unable to offer pacing(apart from shortterm post-shock pacing).It is therefore not suitable in patients with an indication for antibradycardia pacing or cardiac resynchronization therapy,or with a history of repetitive monomorphic ventricular tachycardia that would benefit from antitachycardia pacing.Current data from initial clinical studies and post-commercialization'real-life'case series,including over 700 patients,have so far been promising and shown that the S-ICD successfully converts induced and spontaneous ventricular tachycardia/ventricular fibrillation episodes with associated complication and inappropriate shock rates similar to that of TV-ICDs.Furthermore,by using far-field electrograms better tachyarrhythmia discrimination when compared to TV-ICDs has been reported.Future results from ongoing clinical studies will determine the S-ICD system’s long-term performance,and better define suitable patient profiles.Finn Akerstrm Miguel A Arias Marta Pachón Alberto Puchol Jesús Jiménez-Lópezl 2013World Journal of Cardiology2013,5,9:2
17Prophylaxis with ketotifen in rats with portal hypertension:involvement of mast cell and eicosanoids显示文摘BACKGROUND:Since we have previously shown an increase of mast cells in the small bowel and in the mesenteric lymph nodes in the rats with prehepatic portal hypertension,it can be hypothesized that this essential inflammatory cell would be involved in the pathogeny of the splanchnic changes related to portal hypertension. METHODS:To verify this hypothesis,we first studied mast cell infiltration in the ileum and in the mesenteric lymph nodes in sham-operated male Wistar rats(n=12) and in short-term prehepatic portal hypertensive rats (n=12),and the serum levels of rat mast cell protease Ⅱ(RMCP-Ⅱ)by ELISA.In a second set of experiments ketotifen,a mast cell stabilizer drug,was administered to sham-operated(n=10)and portal hypertensive(n=12) rats 24 hours before the intervention and prostanoids (PGE2,PGI2,TXB2)and leukotrienes(LTC4,LTB4)were assayed by RIA,mast cell infiltration in the ileum and in the mesenteric lymph nodes and the serum levels of RMCP-Ⅱwere also studied,to show its effectiveness to prevent the mesenteric alterations produced by the inflammatory mediators released by the mast cell. RESULTS:Forty-eight hours after the intervention RMCP-Ⅱ (P<0.05),PGE2(P<0.001)and LTC4 serum levels decreased and mast cell number and RMCP-Ⅱlevels increased in mesenteric lymph nodes in portal hypertensive rats.Prophylactic administration of ketotifen reduced portal pressure(P<0.001),serum levels of PGE2(P<0.001)and RMCP-Ⅱ(P<0.001)in mesenteric lymph nodes.
