| 1 | Discussion of rupture mechanisms on the seismogenic fault of the 2008 M_s8.0 Wenchuan earthquake显示文摘The May 12, 2008, Ms8.0 Wenchuan earthquake was the outcome of a recent movement of an active intra-continental thrust fault zone. The seismogenic fault of this earthquake underwent oblique-slip faulting along the central fault and pure thrust faulting along the range-front fault of the Longmenshan fault zone. The former had a steep dip and large vertical displacement, and the latter had a gentle dip and little vertical displacement. The fault zone consisted of compressive double fault ramps rup turing with right-lateral strike-slip components resulting from strain partitioning of a deep oblique slip fault in the brittle zone of the upper crust. The kinematic pattern and rupture mechanisms are complex for the seismogenic fault, as indicated by the geometric pattern of its surface ruptures, the coseismic displacement distribution and focal mechanisms of the main shock and aftershocks. As a tear fault, the NW-trending, left-lateral, strike-slip Xiaoyudong fault zone has accommodated NE-trending displacements with different shortening amounts. However, because of intense compression on the southwestern segment of the seismogenic fault, the left-lateral, strike-slip Xiaoyudong fault also carries a clear compression component. Normal faulting with a strike-slip component controls the formation of a fault-trough along the central fault, which is characterized by thrusting with a strike-slip component and strike-slip with thrusting. The fault-troughs are the product of the interaction of slip and grav ity on the seismogenic fault under specific geological and geomorphic conditions. | 3 | Dynamical mechanism of the stratospheric quasibiennial oscillation impact on the South China Sea Summer Monsoon显示文摘The National Center for the Atmospheric Research (NCAR) middle atmospheric model is used to study the effects of the quasi-biennial oscillation in the stratosphere (QBO) on the tropopause and uppe troposphere, and the relationship between the QBO and South China Sea Summer Monsoon (SCSSM is explored through NCEP (the National Centers for Environmental Prediction)/NCAR, ECMWF (Euro pean Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts) monthly mean wind data and in situ sounding data The simulations show that the QBO-induced residual circulations propagate downwards, and affect the tropopause and upper troposphere during the periods of mid-late QBO phase and phase transition Meanwhile, diagnostic analyses indicate that anomalous circulation similar to SCSSM circulation is generated to strengthen the SCSSM during the easterly phase and anomalous Hadley-like circulation weakens the SCSSM during the westerly. | 4 | Seismotectonics of the 2008 and 2009 Qaidam Earthquakes and its Implication for Regional Tectonics显示文摘Three magnitude >6 earthquakes struck Qaidam, Qinghai province, China, in November 10th 2008, August 28th and 31st 2009 respectively. The Zongwulongshan fault has often been designated as the active seismogenic structure, although it is at odd with the data. Our continuous GPS station (CGPS), the Xiao Qaidam station, located in the north of the Qaidam basin, is less than 30 km to the southwest of the 2008 earthquake. This CGPS station recorded the near field co-seismic deformation. Here we analyzed the co-seismic dislocation based on the GPS time series and the rupture processes from focal mechanism for the three earthquakes. The aftershocks were relocated to constrain the spatial characteristics of the 2008 and 2009 Qaidam earthquakes. Field geological and geomorphological investigation and interpretation of satellite images show that the Xitieshan fault and Zongwulongshan fault were activated as left lateral thrust during the late Quaternary. Evidence of folding can also be identified. Integrated analyses based on our data and the regional tectonic environment show that the Xitieshan fault is the fault responsible for the 2008 Qaidam earthquake, which is a low dip angle thrust with left lateral strike slip. The Zongwulongshan fault is the seismogenic fault of the 2009 earthquakes, which is a south dipping back thrust of the northern marginal thrust system of the Qaidam basin. Folding takes a significant part of the deformation in the northern marginal thrust system of the Qaidam basin, dominating the contemporary structure style of the northern margin of the Qaidam basin and Qilianshan tectonic system. | 5 | Morphologies and Superhydrophobicity of Hybrid Film Surfaces Based on Silica and Fluoropolymer显示文摘Fluoropolymer and different kinds of silica particles were used for controlling surface chemistry and morphology, respectively.A superhydrophobic surface originated from strawberry-like or quincunx-shaped composite silica particles was obtained.The dual size particles are obtained by utilizing the graft of different modified silica particles with epoxy functional group and amine functional group.This makes the surface of film form a composite interface to have irregular binary structure which plays an essential role in trapping air between the substrate surface and the liquid droplets to be necessary for high contact angle and low contact angle hysteresis.The maximum contact angle for water on the hybrid film is about 174±2°and the contact angle hysteresis is less than 2°.The surface morphologies,roughness and the wettability on the surface of films containing different structural silica particles were compared.It was shown that the hierarchical irregularly structure with a low roughness factor and high air-trapped ratio is indispensable for superhydrophobic surface. | 6 | Principle of relative positioning of structures in the human body显示文摘The arrangement of various biological structures should generally ensure the safety of crucial structures and increase their working efficiency; however, other principles governing the relative positions of structures in humans have not been reported. The present study therefore investigated other principles using nerves and their companion vessels in the human body as an example. Nerves and blood vessels usually travel together and in the most direct way towards their targets. Human embryology, histology, and gross anatomy suggest that there are many possible positions for these structures during development. However, for mechanical reasons, tougher or stronger structures should take priority. Nerves are tougher than most other structures, followed by arteries, veins, and lymphatic vessels. Nerves should therefore follow the most direct route, and be followed by the arteries, veins, and lymphatic vessels. | 9 | Effects of Processing Conditions on the Properties of Epoxy Resin Microcapsule显示文摘In order to improve the healing performance and increase the service life of the polymer matrix composites, microcapsules were prepared by interfacial polymerization process with urea formaldehyde resin and epoxy resin E-51 as the wall material and core material separately. The effects of core/shell mass ratio and emulsifier on the distribution, topography and encapsulation rate of microcapsules were investigated. By optimizing the conditions, microcapsules with little particle size, well dispersion and compact surface were prepared. The distribution, topography, stability and compositions of the microcapsules were characterized using Nano-2s, optical microscope, scanning electron microscopy, thermal analysis and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The osmosis performance of the microcapsules was evaluated. The experimental results showed that the ratio of core/shell materials(1:1) and 1% DBS as emulsifier were optimum preparation conditions and the encapsulation rate was 62.5%. The microcapsules can be synthesized successfully with mean diameter 548.6 nm and exhibit a good chemical stability below 225 ℃. The FTIR result indicated that urea-formaldehyde resin was formed and the core materials were successfully encapsulated in urea-formaldehyde shell.
