1Catalytic evaluation of promoted CeO_2-ZrO_2 by transition, alkali, and alkaline-earth metal oxides for diesel soot oxidation显示文摘Series of mixed metal oxides were synthesized by gel-combustion method and their catalytic activities for soot oxidation were investigated. The catalysts were M-Ce-Zr(M = Mn, Cu, Fe, K, Ba, Sr), and xK-20Mn-Ce-Zr(x = 0, 5, 10, 20), they were characterized by XRD, SEM, TPR and BET surface area techniques. The results of soot temperature programmed oxidation(TPO) in an O2 oxidizing atmosphere indicate that K-Ce-Zr has the highest catalytic activity for soot oxidation under loose contact condition, due to enhancement of the soot and catalyst contacts. On the other hand, under a tight contact condition, Mn-Ce-Zr and Cu-Ce-Zr nano-composites have high activities for soot oxidation and lower the soot TPO peak temperatures by about 280 and 270℃, respectively, as compared to non-catalytic soot oxidation. 2Flapping wing micro-aerial-vehicle: Kinematics, membranes, and flapping mechanisms of ornithopter and insect flight显示文摘The application of biomimetics in the development of unmanned-aerial-vehicles(UAV)has advanced to an exceptionally small scale of nano-aerial-vehicles(NAV), which has surpassed its immediate predecessor of micro-aerial-vehicles(MAV), leaving a vast range of development possibilities that MAVs have to offer. Because of the prompt advancement into the NAV research development, the true potential and challenges presented by MAV development were never solved,understood, and truly uncovered, especially under the influence of transition and low Reynolds number flow characteristics. This paper reviews a part of previous MAV research developments which are deemed important of notification; kinematics, membranes, and flapping mechanisms ranges from small birds to big insects, which resides within the transition and low Reynolds number regimes. This paper also reviews the possibility of applying a piezoelectric transmission used to produce NAV flapping wing motion and mounted on a MAV, replacing the conventional motorized flapping wing transmission. Findings suggest that limited work has been done for MAVs matching these criteria. 3Junction properties and conduction mechanism of new terbium complexes with triethylene glycol ligand for potential application in organic electronic device显示文摘Terbium-picrate triethylene glycol(EO3-Tb-Pic) complex was prepared in thin film and single layer device structure of ITO/EO3-Tb-Pic/Al, using spin coating technique. The UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy analysis was performed to evaluate the electronic molecular transition of the complex. The optical band gap, Eg estimated from the Tauc model revealed that EO3-Tb-Pic thin film exhibited a direct transition with Eg of 2.70 eV. The electronic parameters of the ITO/EO3-Tb-Pic/Al device such as the ideality factor n, barrier height Φb, saturation current Io, and series resistance Rs, were extracted from the conventional lnI-V, Cheung's functions and Norde's method. It was found that the evaluated parameters calculated from Norde's and Cheung's methods were consistent with those calculated from the conventional I-V method. In the double logarithmic I-V plot, three distinct regions based on the slope were identified, and the conduction mechanisms were discussed and explained. The mobility, μ value was estimated from SCLC region as 2.58?10–7 cm2/(V·s). 4Identification of commonly regulated protein targets and molecular pathways in PC-3 and DU145 androgen-independent human prostate cancer cells treated with the curcumin analogue 1,5-bis(2-hydroxyphenyl)-1,4-pentadiene-3-one显示文摘Objective: To identify mutually regulated proteins in PC-3 and DU145 androgen-independent prostate cancer cell lines treated with 1,5-bis(2-hydroxyphenyl)-1,4-pentadiene-3-one(MS17), and to study the molecular pathways that contributed to the anticancer activity of MS17.Methods: PC-3 and DU145 cells were treated with 3 × EC_(50)(15 μM) concentration of MS17 for 24 h and were subjected to protein expression profiling using two-dimensional gel electrophoresis and protein identification by mass spectrometry.Selected differentially expressed proteins with significant P-value of P<0.05 and fold change over 1.5-folds were filtered through and ontologically classified.Mutually regulated proteins were ranked by fold change and identified as common protein targets of MS17.Results: Profiling data revealed that, the mutually down-regulated proteins included ACTB and ACTG associated with structural molecule activity, ACTN1 with cell cycle, ACTN4 with cell migration, HNRPK with apoptosis, PLST with morphogenesis and TERA with proteolysis.However, the expressions of CH60 and HS71 A respectively associated with response to unfolded protein demonstrated opposing regulation in PC-3 and DU145 cells.Pathway analysis of the differentially expressed proteins in PC-3 cells demonstrated the modulation of top pathways associated with cell-cell adhesion and cytoskeletal organization while in DU145 cells the pathways were associated with proteosomal degradation, regulation of electrolytes and water, regulation control of germ cells and organization of filament assembly/disassembly.Conclusions: The findings of the present study provide an understanding on the anti-tumorigenic activity of MS17 at the proteome level and warrant further research for its potential application for the management and treatment of androgen-independent prostate cancer.Kamini Citalingam Faridah Abas Nordin H.Lajis Iekhsan Othman Rakesh Naidu 2018Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2018,8,9:2

7Broad bandwidth SOA-based multiwavelength laser incorporating a bidirectional Lyot filter显示文摘We demonstrate a broad bandwidth multiwavelength laser based on a bidirectional Lyot filter and a semiconductor optical amplifier with a mechanism of intensity-dependent loss as the flatness agent. A wide bandwidth of a multiwavelength spectrum of 32.9 nm within a 5 dB uniformity is obtained under optimized polarization parameters. For this case, the number of generated lasing lines is 329 with a fixed wavelength separation of 0.1 nm. The power stability of this multiwavelength laser is less than 1.35 dB within 200 min time frame. 8Probability Enhanced Entropy(PEE) Novel Feature for Improved Bird Sound Classification显示文摘Identification of bird species from their sounds has become an important area in biodiversity-related research due to the relative ease of capturing bird sounds in the commonly challenging habitat. Audio features have a massive impact on the classification task since they are the fundamental elements used to differentiate classes. As such, the extraction of informative properties of the data is a crucial stage of any classification-based application. Therefore, it is vital to identify the most significant feature to represent the actual bird sounds. In this paper, we propose a novel feature that can advance classification accuracy with modified features, which are most suitable for classifying birds from its audio sounds. Modified Gammatone frequency cepstral coefficient(GTCC) features have been extracted with their frequency banks adjusted to suit bird sounds. The features are then used to train and test a support vector machine(SVM) classifier. It has been shown that the modified GTCC features are able to give 86% accuracy with twenty Bornean birds. Furthermore, in this paper, we are proposing a novel probability enhanced entropy(PEE) feature, which, when combined with the modified GTCC features, is able to improve accuracy further to 89.5%.
