| 1 | Insulin sensitizers for the treatment of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease显示文摘Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD) is the leading cause of liver disease in the Western world and is closely associated with metabolic syndrome,which includes hypertension,central obesity,dyslipidemia and insulin resistance.NAFLD includes a wide spectrum of liver alterations,ranging from simple hepatic steatosis to variable degrees of fibrosis,cirrhosis and even hepatocellular carcinoma.Although the etiology and progression of the disorder remain poorly understood,insulin resistance is considered to play a pivotal role in the pathogenesis.Insulin sensitizers such as biguanides,thiazolidinediones(TZDs),glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists and dipeptidyl peptidase 4 inhibitors have been studied as therapeutic approaches for NAFLD in recent years.Metformin improves insulin sensitivity and serum alanine transaminase and aspartate transaminase(ALT/AST) levels in the majority of subjects; however,it has no significant effect on liver histology.TZDs improve insulin sensitivity,serum ALT/ AST levels and histology in some cases,but there are some concerns about the safety of long-term therapy.Selection of appropriate patients for avoiding side effects and the treatment of underlying disease are themain points.These drugs are the best choice for the treatment of NAFLD in patients with type 2 DM who are also candidates for treatment with an insulin sensitizer.The present review provides an overview of insulin sensitizers in the treatment of NAFLD. | Zeynel Abidin Ozturk Abdurrahman Kadayifci | 2014 | World Journal of Hepatology2014,6,4: | 14 |
| 2 | MI-NLMS adaptive beamforming algorithm for smart antenna system applications显示文摘A Matrix Inversion Normalized Least Mean Square (MI-NLMS) adaptive beamforming algorithm was developed for smart antenna application. The MI-NLMS which combined the individual good aspects of Sample Matrix Inversion (SMI) and the Normalized Least Mean Square (NLMS) algorithms is described. Simulation results showed that the less complexity MI-NLMS yields 15 dB improvements in interference suppression and 5 dB gain enhancement over LMS algorithm, converges from the initial iteration and achieves 24% BER improvements at cochannel interference equal to 5. | 3 | Treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in the elderly显示文摘The prevalence of type 2 diabetes is expected to increase gradually with the prolongation of population aging and life expectancy. In addition to macrovascular and microvascular complications of elderly patients of diabetes mellitus, geriatric syndromes such as cognitive impairment, depression, urinary incontinence,falling and polypharmacy are also accompanied by aging. Individual functional status in the elderly shows heterogeneity so that in these patients, there are many unanswered questions about the management of diabetes treatment. The goals of diabetes treatment in elderly patients include hyperglycemia and risk factors, as in younger patients. comorbid diseases and functional limitations of individuals should be taken into consideration when setting treatment targets. Thus, treatment should be individualized. In the treatment of diabetes in vulnerable elderly patients, hypoglycemia, hypotension, and drug interactions due to multiple drug use should be avoided. | 4 | In Silico Prediction and Validation of Gfap as an miR-3099 Target in Mouse Brain显示文摘MicroRNAs are small non-coding RNAs that play crucial roles in the regulation of gene expression and protein synthesis during brain development. MiR-3099 is highly expressed throughout embryogenesis, especially in the developing central nervous system. Moreover, miR-3099 is also expressed at a higher level in differentiating neurons in vitro, suggesting that it is a potential regulator during neuronal cell development. This study aimed to predict the target genes of miR-3099 via in-silico analysis using four independent prediction algorithms(miRDB,miRanda, Target Scan, and DIANA-micro-T-CDS) with emphasis on target genes related to brain development and function. Based on the analysis, a total of 3,174 miR-3099 target genes were predicted. Those predicted by at least three algorithms(324 genes) were subjected to DAVID bioinformatics analysis to understand their overallfunctional themes and representation. The analysis revealed that nearly 70% of the target genes were expressed in the nervous system and a significant proportion were associated with transcriptional regulation and protein ubiquitination mechanisms. Comparison of in situ hybridization(ISH) expression patterns of miR-3099 in both published and in-house-generated ISH sections with the ISH sections of target genes from the Allen Brain Atlas identified 7 target genes(Dnmt3a, Gabpa, Gfap, Itga4,Lxn, Smad7, and Tbx18) having expression patterns complementary to miR-3099 in the developing and adult mouse brain samples. Of these, we validated Gfap as a direct downstream target of miR-3099 using the luciferase reporter gene system. | 5 | 马来西亚大学医学中心角膜溃疡的回顾分析显示文摘目的:分析角膜溃疡的病例分布、危险因素、临床特点、微生物检查及预后结果。方法:对2003-07/2006-04就诊于马来西亚大学医学中心的84例(87眼)患者进行研究,其中1例双眼发病,另1例曾因疱疹性角膜炎复发3次就诊。选入标准包括角膜上皮缺损、角膜基质浸润及炎症。结果:患者84例中有男46例,女38例。主要是马来人(52%)。3个主要的危险因素是角膜接触镜的配戴(47%),眼外伤(25%)及眼表疾病(24%)。在老年患者中,糖尿病(8%)及高血压(9%)是重要的系统性疾病。阳性为25%,而微生物培养阳性为73%。在各危险因素组中,绿脓杆菌是最常见的致病菌,在角膜接触镜配戴者中最高。耐庆大霉素革兰染色阴性菌有2例,耐青霉素表皮葡萄球菌有1例。75%的患者溃疡愈合,遗留角膜混浊。2mo后,54%的患眼最佳矫正视力〉6/18,14%〈3/60。3例患者需要行眼球摘除或剜除术。结论:角膜接触镜配戴和眼外伤是青年人群中主要的可预防性危险因素,相反,眼疾是老年人中不可预防的危险因素。超过60%的培养阳性病例为革兰染色阴性菌。 | A J Kadir A Samsudin A Fauzi , Z Z Abidin | 2008 | 国际眼科杂志2008,8,12: | 3 |

| 8 | Assessing the kinetic model of hydro-distillation and chemical composition ofAquilaria malaccensis leaves essential oil显示文摘This study aimed to model the kinetic of hydro-distillation of Aquilaria malaccensis leaves oil in order to understand and optimize the extraction process. In addition, this study, for the first time, aimed to identify the chemical compositions of the A. malaccensis leave-oil. By assessing both first-order kinetic model and the model of simultaneous washing and diffusion, the result indicated that the model of simultaneous washing and diffusion better describes the hydro-distillation mechanism of the essential oil from A. malaccensis leaves.The optimum time, solid to liquid ratio, and the heating power for extracting the highest amount of essential oil were found to be around 3 h, 1:10(g·ml-1), and 300 W respectively. Yellow essential oil with a strong smell and a yield of 0.05 v/w was extracted by hydro-distillation Clevenger apparatus. Chemical compounds of the essential oil were analyzed using gas chromatography–mass spectroscopy(GC/MS), which resulted in identification of 42 compounds that constitute 93% of essential oil.
