1Osteopontin as potential biomarker and therapeutic target in gastric and liver cancers显示文摘Gastric cancer and liver cancer are among the most common malignancies and the leading causes of death worldwide,due to late detection and high recurrence rates.Today,these cancers have a heavy socioeconomic burden,for which a full understanding of their pathophysiological features is warranted to search for promising biomarkers and therapeutic targets.Osteopontin (OPN) is overexpressed in most patients with gastric and liver cancers.Over the past decade,emerging evidence has revealed a correlation of OPN level and clinicopathological features and prognosis in gastric and liver cancers,indicating its potential as an independent prognostic indicator in such patients.Functional studies have verified the potential of OPN knockdown as a therapeutic approach in vitro and in vivo .Furthermore,OPN mediates multifaceted roles in the interaction between cancer cells and the tumor microenvironment,in which many details need further exploration.OPN signaling results in various functions,including prevention of apoptosis,modulation of angiogenesis,malfunction of tumor-associated macrophages,degradation of extracellular matrix,activation of phosphoinositide 3-kinase-Akt and nuclear factor-κB pathways,which lead to tumor formation and progression,particularly in gastric and liver cancers.This editorial aims to review recent findings on alteration in OPN expression and its clinicopathological associations with tumor progression,its potential as a therapeutic target,and putative mechanisms in gastric and liver cancers.Better understanding of the implications of OPN in tumorigenesis might facilitate development of therapeutic regimens to benefit patients with these deadly malignancies.Dong-Xing Cao Zhi-Jie Li Xiao-Ou Jiang Yick Liang Lum Ester Khin Nikki P Lee Guo-Hao Wu John M Luk 2012World Journal of Gastroenterology2012,18,30:29
2Why total knees fail-A modern perspective review显示文摘Historically, the most common mechanism of total kneearthroplasty(TKA) failures included aseptic loosening, instability and malalignment. As polyethylene production improved, modes of failure from polyethylene wear and subsequent osteolysis became less prevalent. Newer longitudinal studies report that infection has become the primary acute cause of failure with loosening and instability remaining as the overall greatest reasons for revision. Clinical database and worldwide national registries confirm these reports. 3Development of a vision-based ground target detection and tracking system for a small unmanned helicopter显示文摘It is undoubted that the latest trend in the unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) community is towards visionbased unmanned small-scale helicopter, utilizing the maneuvering capabilities of the helicopter and the rich information of visual sensors, in order to arrive at a versatile platform for a variety of applications such as navigation, surveillance, tracking, etc. In this paper, we present the development of a vision- based ground target detection and tracking system for a small UAV helicopter. More specifically, we propose a real-time vision algorithm, based on moment invariants and two-stage pattern recognition, to achieve automatic ground target detection. In the proposed algorithm, the key geometry features of the target are extracted to detect and identify the target. Simultaneously, a Kalman filter is used to estimate and predict the position of the target, referred to as dynamic features, based on its motion model. These dynamic features are then combined with geometry features to identify the target in the second-stage of pattern recognition, when geometry features of the target change significantly due to noise and disturbance in the environment. Once the target is identified, an automatic control scheme is utilized to control the pan/tilt visual mechanism mounted on the helicopter such that the identified target is to be tracked at the center of the captured images. Experimental results based on images captured by the small-scale unmanned helicopter, SheLion, in actual flight tests demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of the overall system.LUM Kai-Yew CHEN Ben M. 5Design and implementation of a leader-follower cooperative control system for unmanned helicopters显示文摘In this paper,we present a full scheme for the cooperative control of multiple unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV)helicopters.We adopt the leader-follower pattern to maintain a fixed geometrical formation while navigating the UAVs following certain trajectories.More specifically,the leader is commanded to fly on some predefined trajectories,and each follower is controlled to maintain its position in formation using the measurement of its inertial position and the information of the leader position and velocity,obtained through a wireless modem.More specifications are made for multiple UAV formation flight.In order to avoid possible collisions of UAV helicopters in the actual formation flight test,a collision avoidance scheme based on some predefined alert zones and protected zones is employed.Simulations and experimental results are presented to verify our design.Ben YUN Ben M. 6BMC Medicine论文摘要汇编——糖尿病用药管理支持:糖尿病自我管理应用程序的系统评估显示文摘背景在糖尿病自我管理支持方面,智能手机应用程序越来越受欢迎。糖尿病自我管理的一个重要方面是恰当服药。本研究旨在系统地评估和描述糖尿病自我管理应用程序中的用药管理功能,及其与基于证据的最佳实践标准的一致性。方法 2018年6月,在Google Play和Apple应用程序商店中,使用英语搜索糖尿病相关术语。根据国际用药管理和糖尿病指南的评估标准,下载并评估具有用药和血糖管理功能的应用程序。结果共搜索到3 369个Android和1 799个iOS潜在相关的应用程序;其中,143个应用程序(81个Android,62个iOS)符合纳入标准,并已下载和评估。超过一半[58.0%(83/143)]的应用程序具有用药提醒功能;16.8%(24/143)的应用程序具有审查药物依从性的功能;39.9%(57/143)的应用程序允许进入服药指示;5.6%(8/143)的应用程序提供药物相关信息;4.2%(6/143)的应用程序显示鼓励服药的激励消息。只有两个应用程序鼓励用户采用辅助性疗法。在应用评估期间,观察到诸如有限的药物记录容量、错误的提醒功能、不明确的药物依从性评估,以及视觉上过度分散注意力的广告等问题。结论大部分糖尿病自我管理应用程序缺乏增强用药依从性和安全性的功能。应更加重视糖尿病应用程序中用药管理功能的设计,以提高其与基于证据的最佳实践标准的一致性。本刊编辑部(编译) HUANG Z LUM E JIMENEZ G 2019中国全科医学2019,22,29:4

10Immunoglobulin G in non-alcoholic steatohepatitis predicts clinical outcome:A prospective multi-centre cohort study显示文摘BACKGROUND Autoimmune markers including plasma cells(PC),anti-smooth-muscle antibody(ASMA),anti-nuclear antibody(ANA),and raised immunoglobulin G(IgG)are commonly observed in non-alcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH),however their clinical significance is unknown.AIM To determine if autoimmune markers in NASH patients are independently associated with poorer clinical outcomes.METHODS Consecutive patients with biopsy proven NASH from Christchurch Hospital,New Zealand and Singapore General Hospital(SGH)were included between 2005 to 2016 in a prospective multi-centre cohort study.Patients with other causes of chronic liver disease were excluded.IgG>14 g/L or globulin fraction>50%,ANA≥1:40,SMA≥1:40 were considered positive.Multivariate analysis was performed to assess which markers were independently associated with mortality and hepatic decompensation.RESULTS Total 261 patients were included of which 201 were from SGH.The median age was 53 and 51.9%were male.Advanced fibrosis was present in 31.4%at diagnosis.PC,ASMA,ANA and raised IgG were observed in 13.1%,4.9%,27.8%and 30.1%of patients respectively.After multivariate analysis,elevated IgG[Hazard Ratio(HR)6.79,95%CI:2.93-17.15]and fibrosis stage(HR 1.37,95%CI:1.03-1.87)were found to be independently associated with increased risk of liver decompensation.Age(HR 1.06,95%CI:1.02-1.10)and elevated IgG(HR 3.79,95%CI:1.90-7.68)were independent factors associated with higher mortality risk.CONCLUSION Elevated IgG,rather than ANA,ASMA or plasma cells,is independently associated with increased risk of hepatic decompensation and mortality in NASH.It could hence be important for prognostication.Marianne Anastasia De Roza Mehul Lamba George Boon-Bee Goh Johnathan Huey-Ming Lum Mark Chang-Chuen Cheah Jing Hieng Jeffrey Ngu 2021World Journal of Gastroenterology2021,27,43:2

14Dual potential of microalgae as a sustainable biofuel feedstock and animal feed显示文摘The rise in global population has led to explorations of alternative sources of energy and food. Because corn and soybean are staple food crops for humans, their common use as the main source of dietary energy and protein for food-producing animals directly competes with their allocation for human consumption. Alternatively, de-fatted marine microalgal biomass generated from the potential biofuel production may be a viable replacement of corn and soybean meal due to their high levels of protein, relatively well-balanced amino acid profiles, and rich contents of minerals and vitamins, along with unique bioactive compounds. Although the full-fatted(intact) microalgae represent the main source of omega-3(n-3) polyunsaturated fatty acids including docohexaenoic acid(DHA)and eicosapentaenoic acid(EPA), the de-fatted microalgal biomass may still contain good amounts of these components for enriching DHA/EPA in eggs, meats, and milk. This review is written to highlight the necessity and potential of using the de-fatted microalgal biomass as a new generation of animal feed in helping address the global energy, food, and environmental issues. Nutritional feasibility and limitation of the biomass as the new feed ingredient for simple-stomached species are elaborated.
