| 1 | Disinfection byproduct precursor removal by enhanced coagulation and their distribution in chemical fractions显示文摘Raw water from the Songhua River was treated by four types of coagulants, ferric chloride(FeCl3), aluminum sulfate(Al2(SO4)3),polyaluminum chloride(PACl) and composite polyaluminum(HPAC), in order to remove dissolved organic matter(DOM). Considering the disinfection byproduct(DBP) precursor treatability, DOM was divided into five chemical fractions based on resin adsorption.Trihalomethane formation potential(THMFP) and haloacetic acid formation potential(HAAFP) were measured for each fraction. The results showed that hydrophobic acids(HoA), hydrophilic matter(HiM) and hydrophobic neutral(HoN) were the dominant fractions.Although both HoN and HoA were the main THM precursors, the contribution for THMFP changed after coagulation. Additionally,HoA and HiM were the main HAA precursors, while the contribution of HoN to HAAFP significantly increased after coagulation.HoM was more easily removed than HiM, no matter which coagulant was used, especially under enhanced coagulation conditions.DOC removal was highest for enhanced coagulation using FeCl3 while DBPFP was lowest using PACl. This could indicate that not all DOC fractions contained the precursors of DBPs. | 2 | Multivariate predictive model for asymptomatic spontaneous bacterial peritonitis in patients with liver cirrhosis显示文摘BACKGROUNDSpontaneous bacterial peritonitis (SBP) is a detrimental infection of the asciticfluid in liver cirrhosis patients, with high mortality and morbidity. Earlydiagnosis and timely antibiotic administration have successfully decreased themortality rate to 20%-25%. However, many patients cannot be diagnosed in theearly stages due to the absence of classical SBP symptoms. Early diagnosis ofasymptomatic SBP remains a great challenge in the clinic.AIMTo establish a multivariate predictive model for early diagnosis of asymptomaticSBP using positive microbial cultures from liver cirrhosis patients with ascites.METHODSA total of 98 asymptomatic SBP patients and 98 ascites liver cirrhosis patients withnegative microbial cultures were included in the case and control groups,respectively. Multiple linear stepwise regression analysis was performed toidentify potential indicators for asymptomatic SBP diagnosis. The diagnosticperformance of the model was estimated using the receiver operatingcharacteristic curve.RESULTSPatients in the case group were more likely to have advanced disease stages,cirrhosis related-complications, worsened hematology and ascites, and higher mortality. Based on multivariate analysis, the predictive model was as follows: y (P) = 0.018 + 0.312 × MELD (model of end-stage liver disease) + 0.263 × PMN(ascites polymorphonuclear) + 0.184 × N (blood neutrophil percentage) + 0.233 ×HCC (hepatocellular carcinoma) + 0.189 × renal dysfunction. The area under thecurve value of the established model was 0.872, revealing its high diagnosticpotential. The diagnostic sensitivity was 73.5% (72/98), the specificity was 86.7%(85/98), and the diagnostic efficacy was 80.1%.CONCLUSIONOur predictive model is based on the MELD score, polymorphonuclear cells,blood N, hepatocellular carcinoma, and renal dysfunction. | 5 | microRNA-218 promotes gemcitabine sensitivity in human pancreatic cancer cells by regulating HMGB1 expression显示文摘Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of gemcitabine(GEM) on micro RNA-218(mi R-218) expression in human pancreatic cancer cells.Methods: Quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction(q RT-PCR) was performed to examine the differences in mi R-218 expression between the GEM-sensitive Bx PC-3 pancreatic cancer cells and GEM-resistant PANC-1 cells. The effect of GEM on the expression of mi R-218 in PANC-1 cells was also investigated. PANC-1 cells were transfected either with HMGB1 si RNA to knock down the expression of HMGB1 or with the recombinant HMGB1 expression vector(pc DNA3.1-HMGB1) to overexpress HMGB1. The effect of ectopic expression of HMGB1 on the apoptosis of mi R-218-transfected and GEMtreated PANC-1 cells was examined by flow cytometric analysis.Results: The mi R-218 expression level was lower in GEM-resistant PANC-1 cells compared to GEMsensitive Bx PC-3 cells(P<0.05). The percentage of apoptotic PANC-1 cells was significantly increased in the mi R-218 mimic + GEM group compared to the mimic ctrl + GEM group and the normal control group(P<0.01). The HMGB1 expression level was markedly decreased in PANC-1 cells transfected with HMGB1 si RNA but was significantly increased in PANC-1 cells transfected with the recombinant HMGB1 expression vector, pc DNA3.1-HMGB1(P<0.01). | 19 | Effect of photoperiod on development and reproduction of Megacopta cribraria(Hemiptera:Plataspidae)显示文摘Megacopta cribraria (Hemiptera: Plataspidae) continually outbreaks due to suitable photoperiod in recent years. Effect of photoperiod on growth, development and reproduction of M. cribraria were assessed in this study. Results indicated that developmental duration, nutrient accumulation efficiency, and adult fecundity of M. cribraria were significantly different under 6 photoperiodical conditions. Developmental duration of nymph stage gradually tended to be shorter as day time increase. Body weights of 5th instar nymphs for 16 h and 4 h day time photoperiods were 5.2 mg and 4.6 mg, respectively. Moreover, longevity of adults tended to be longer as day time increase. However, for the short day photoperiod (4 L:20 D and 8 L:16 D), population showed no reproductive behaviors. Index of population trend increased with photoperiod extension and adults showed stronger reproductive capacity and longer longevity. This research identified the favorable photoperiodical conditions before outbreak.
