2Therapeutic imaging window of cerebral infarction revealed by multisequence magnetic resonance imaging An animal and clinical study显示文摘In this study, we established a Wistar rat model of right middle cerebral artery occlusion and observed pathological imaging changes (T2-weighted imaging [T2WI], T2FLAIR, and diffusion-weighted imaging [DWI]) following cerebral infarction. The pathological changes were divided into three phases: early cerebral infarction, middle cerebral infarction, and late cerebral infarction. In the early cerebral infarction phase (less than 2 hours post-infarction), there was evidence of intracellular edema, which improved after reperfusion. This improvement was defined as the ischemic penumbra. In this phase, a high DWI signal and a low apparent diffusion coefficient were observed in the right basal ganglia region. By contrast, there were no abnormal T2WI and T2FLAIR signals. For the middle cerebral infarction phase (2-4 hours post-infarction), a mixed edema was observed. After reperfusion, there was a mild improvement in cell edema, while the angioedema became more serious. A high DWI signal and a low apparent diffusion coefficient signal were observed, and some rats showed high T2WI and T2FLAIR signals. For the late cerebral infarction phase (4-6 hours post-infarction), significant angioedema was visible in the infarction site. After reperfusion, there was a significant increase in angioedema, while there was evidence of hemorrhage and necrosis. A mixed signal was observed on DWI, while a high apparent diffusion coefficient signal, a high T2WI signal, and a high T2FLAIR signal were also observed. All 86 cerebral infarction patients were subjected to T2WI, T2FLAIR, and DWI. MRI results of clinic data similar to the early infarction phase of animal experiments were found in 51 patients, for which 10 patients (10/51) had an onset time greater than 6 hours. A total of 35 patients had MRI results similar to the middle and late infarction phase of animal experiments, of which eight patients (8/35) had an onset time less than 6 hours. These data suggest that defining the 'therapeutic time window' as the time 6 hours after infarction may not be suitable for all patients. 3Gene interference regulates aquaporin-4 expression in swollen tissue of rats with cerebral ischemic edema Correlation with variation in apparent diffusion coefficient显示文摘To investigate the effects of mRNA interference on aquaporin-4 expression in swollen tissue of rats with ischemic cerebral edema, and diagnose the significance of diffusion-weighted MRI, we injected 5 μL shRNA- aquaporin-4 (control group) or siRNA- aquaporin-4 solution (1:800) (RNA interference group) into the rat right basal ganglia immediately before occlusion of the middle cerebral artery. At 0.25 hours after occlusion of the middle cerebral artery, diffusion-weighted MRI displayed a high signal; within 2 hours, the relative apparent diffusion coefficient decreased markedly, aquaporin-4 expression increased rapidly, and intracellular edema was obviously aggravated; at 4 and 6 hours, the relative apparent diffusion coefficient slowly returned to control levels, aquaporin-4 expression slightly increased, and angioedema was observed. In the RNA interference group, during 0.25- 6 hours after injection of siRNA- aquaporin-4 solution, the relative apparent diffusion coefficient slightly fluctuated and aquaporin-4 expression was upregulated; during 0.5-4 hours, the relative apparent diffusion coefficient was significantly higher, while aquaporin-4 expression was significantly lower when compared with the control group, and intracellular edema was markedly reduced; at 0.25 and 6 hours, the relative apparent diffusion coefficient and aquaporin-4 expression were similar when compared with the control group; obvious angioedema remained at 6 hours. Pearson's correlation test results showed that aquaporin-4 expression was negatively correlated with the apparent diffusion coefficient (r = -0.806, P < 0.01). These findings suggest that upregulated aquaporin-4 expression is likely to be the main molecular mechanism of intracellular edema and may be the molecular basis for decreased relative apparent diffusion coefficient. Aquaporin-4 gene interference can effectively inhibit the upregulation of aquaporin-4 expression during the stage of intracellular edema with time-effectiveness. 4Anti-anxiety effect of Valeriana jatamansi Jones extract via regulation of the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal axis显示文摘BACKGROUND:Hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis dysfunction has been closely linked to anxiety.Previous studies have shown that Valeriana jatamansi Jones extract exhibits clear anxio-lytic effects, but it is unclear about the mechanism underlying regulation of the HPA axis dysfunction in these anxiolytic effects.OBJECTIVE:To observe the effects of Valeriana jatamansi Jones (Zhizhu Xiang) extract on HPA axis function in a rat model of anxiety, and to compare these effects with positive control estazolam.DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING:Randomized, controlled, animal experiment was performed at Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, China, between February and September in 2006.MATERIALS:Estazolam was purchased from Shanghai Jiufu Pharmaceutical, China; Valeriana jatamansi Jones was purchased from the Lotus Pond Market for Chinese Herbal Medicine in Chengdu.It consisted of iridoids and flavonoid components.METHODS:A total of 72 Sprague Dawley rats, aged 2 months, were randomly assigned to 6 groups:low-, medium-, and high-dose Valeriana jatamansi Jones groups intragastrically injected with 0.3, 0.6, and 0.9 g/kg per day Valeriana jatamansi Jones extract, respectively; estazolam group intragastrically injected with 1.5 mg/kg per day estazolam; model and normal groups administered 5 mL physiological saline.Anxiety was established in all groups, except the normal group, through the use of elevated plus-maze test at 7 days following drug administration.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES:Blood β-endorphin and corticosterone levels were determined using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay following treatment with Valeriana jatamansi Jones extract.Expressions of HPA axis-related genes were measured by cDNA microarray.RESULTS:Blood β-endorphin and corticosterone levels were significantly greater in the model group than in the normal group.Compared with the model group, levels decreased with Valeriana jatamansi Jones extract or estazolam treatment, particularly in the low-dose Valeriana jatamansi Jones group (P<0.01).cDNA microarray results demonstrated that corticotropin-releasing hormone and Orexin, which are associated with HPA axis function, were differentially expressed; expression increased in the model group, but decreased in rats treated with Valeriana jatamansi Jones extract.CONCLUSION:Valeriana jatamansi Jones extract plays a role in regulating HPA axis function in a rat model of anxiety, and this effect was superior to estazolam.Zhiyong Yan Tian'e Zhang Ting Xiao Lingzhen Pan Jinzhi Qin Zhanping Zhang Changying Zuo 2010Neural Regeneration Research2010,5,14:9

7Review on evolution and evaluation of asphalt pavement structures and materials显示文摘The purpose of this study was to summarize the wide-range literatures on asphalt pavements, explore the evolution of road pavements, analyze typical asphalt pavement structures, highlight current trends in research and industry, and to recommend future areas of research and development. In this research, road pavement evolution was explored from the earliest roads to the modern pavements. A new method was recommended to categorize asphalt pavement materials into the three large families which may be further sub-divided according to their mechanical parameters. A unified asphalt pavement classification(UAPC) method was proposed and the worldwide asphalt pavements could be divided into six types through the new method. Based o n the UAPC method, 1087 asphalt pavement structures were classified and analyzed to explore the asphalt thickness variation. In order to evaluate asphalt pavement performance, the Chinese design specification was employed for analyzing lives of 29 high-volume pavements and 28 low-volume pavements. 8Effect of anisotropic characteristics on the mechanical behavior of asphalt concrete overlay显示文摘Asphalt concrete (AC)overlays placed over old asphalt pavement have become an alternative to repairing and reinforcing pavements.The strength contributed by the AC overlay is strongly influenced by the anisotropic properties of the pavement material.This study was conducted to analyze the influence of anisotropy,modulus gradient properties,and the condition of the AC overlay and old pavement contact plane on the mechanical behaviors of AC overlays,as well as to quantify the influence of the degree of anisotropy on the mechanical behaviors of AC overlay by a sensitivity analysis (SA).The mechanical behaviors of the AC overlay were numerically obtained using the three- dimensional finite element method with the aid of ABAQUS,a commercial program.Variations in the AC overlay's modulus as a function of temperature as well as the contact state between the AC overlay and AC layer were considered. The SA is based on standardized regression coefficients method.Comparing the mechanical behavior in terms of surface deflection,stress,and strain of the anisotropy model against those corresponding to the isotropic model under static loads show that the anisotropic properties had greater effects on the mechanical behavior of the AC overlay.In addition,the maximum shear stress in the AC overlay was the most significant output parameter affected by the degree of anisotropy. 9Controlling morphology evolution of AIN nanostructures:influence of growth conditions in physical vapor transport显示文摘A series of AIN nanostructures were synthesized by an ultrahigh-temperature, catalyst-free, physical vapor transport(PVT) process. Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDX), X-ray diffraction(XRD), X-Ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS),high resolution transmission electron microscopy(HRTEM) detection show that high quality AIN nanowires were prepared. Nanostructures including nanorings, nanosprings, nanohelices, chainlike nanowires, six-fold symmetric nanostructure and rod-like structure were successfully obtained by controlling the growth duration and temperature. 10Sensitivity analysis of longitudinal cracking on asphalt pavement using MEPDG in permafrost region显示文摘Longitudinal cracking is one of the most important distresses of asphalt pavement in permafrost regions. The sensitivity analysis of design parameters for asphalt pavement can be used to study the influence of every parameter on longitudinal cracking, which can help optimizing the design of the pavement structure. In this study, 20 test sections of Qinghai e Tibet Highway were selected to conduct the sensitivity analysis of longitudinal cracking on material parameter based on Mechanistic-Empirical Pavement Design Guide(MEPDG) and single factorial sensitivity analysis method. Some computer aided engineering(CAE) simulation techniques, such as the Latin hypercube sampling(LHS) technique and the multiple regression analysis are used as auxiliary means.Finally, the sensitivity spectrum of material parameter on longitudinal cracking was established. The result shows the multiple regression analysis can be used to determine the remarkable influence factor more efficiently and to process the qualitative analysis when applying the MEPDG software in sensitivity analysis of longitudinal cracking in permafrost regions. The effect weights of the three parameters on longitudinal cracking in descending order are air void, effective binder content and PG grade. The influence of air void on top layer is bigger than that on middle layer and bottom layer. 11Altered expression of nuclear matrix proteins in etoposide induced apoptosis in HL-60 cells显示文摘The events of cell death and the expression of nuclear matrix protein (NMP) have been investigated in a promyelocytic leukemic cell line HL-60 induced with etoposide. By means of TUNEL assay, the nuclei displayed a characteristic morphology change, and the amount of apoptotic cells increased early and reached maximun about 39% after treatment with etoposide for 2 h. Nucleosomal DNA fragmentation was observed after treatment for 4 h. The morphological change of HL-60 cells, thus, occurred earlier than the appearance of DNA ladder. Total nuclear matrix proteins were analyzed by 2-dimensional gel electrophoresis. Differential expression of 59 nuclear matrix proteins was found in 4 h etoposide treated cells. Western blotting was then performed on three nuclear matrix acssociated proteins, PML, HSC70 and NuMA. The expression of the suppressor PML protein and heat shock protein HSC70 were significantly upregulated after etoposide treatment, while NuMA, a nuclear mitotic apparatus protein, was down regulated. 12A review on the best practices in concrete pavement design and materials in wet-freeze climates similar to Michigan显示文摘The research presented in this paper aims to identify best practices of design and materials for concrete pavements in wet-freeze climates similar to the Michigan State. For the purposes of this paper, a best practice is a procedure that has been shown by field-validated research or experience to produce improved results and that is established or proposed as a standard suitable for widespread implementation. The local wet-freeze climate makes the requirements for Michigan's pavement system different from many other regions. Wetfreeze climates can result in various concrete pavement distress mechanisms such as thermally-induced cracking, freeze-thaw deterioration, accelerated cracking due to loss of support, frost heave, and material degradation. Therefore, appropriate procedures for design and material selection need to be selected to withstand high precipitation and freezing winter temperatures. Failure to take into account the climatic conditions may lead to inadequate or reduced pavement performance. However, utilizing appropriate techniques and materials could potentially improve the quality and increase the service life of the concrete pavement. Three design methods and five materials have been identified, and examples of their successful performance in wet-freeze climates are provided. In addition, the reasons that give them the superior performance in wet-freeze climates are discussed in detail.Naser P. 13Comparative study of ethanol foamed asphalt binders and mixtures prepared via manual injection and laboratory foaming device显示文摘The consistency of the ethanol foamed binders and mixtures prepared using asphalt binders foamed by the manual injection technique and laboratory foaming device were evaluated and compared in this study. The asphalt binders foamed using both methods was prepared at 120℃, 130℃ and 140℃. The performance of ethanol-foamed binders was evaluated in terms of rotational viscosity, expansion ratio, and low temperature cracking.Meanwhile, the performance of foamed WMA mixtures was tested using semi-circular bending(SCB), disk-shaped compact tension(DCT), and tensile strength ratio(TSR) tests. In order to conduct the TSR test, the samples were conditioned using the Moisture Induced Stress Tester(MIST) to simulate the pore pressure and scouring effects due to a tire passing over wet pavement. The foamed WMA mixtures were produced using pre-heated aggregates at 80℃ and 100℃ and foamed asphalt binders produced at 130℃. The nano-hydrated lime was used as the filler and anti-stripping agent. Overall, the properties of ethanol-foamed binders and WMA mixtures produced via both methods are significantly comparable, except the resistance to moisture damage test result. However, the findings indicate that the ethanol-foamed WMA mixtures prepared using both techniques are having good resistance to moisture damage, based on the TSR values more than 0.8. The foamed WMA mixtures also exhibited a better resistance to cracking, as indicated by a higher tensile strength compared to the control HMA. 14Influence of solid retention time on sludge characteristics and effluent quality in immersed membrane bioreactor显示文摘Here the effect of solid retention time(SRT) on the concentration of the mixed liquor suspend solid(MLSS),the sludge characteristics,the content of extra-cellular polymeric substances(EPS),the viscosity of mixed liquor and effluent quality in the immersed membrane bioreactor(IMBR) was investi-gated.The results indicate that the increase of the EPS content is the main reason for the increase of mixed liquor viscosity,the former is positively correlated with the latter(R2 = 0.9751).The size distribution profile of particles in the mixed liquor presents double-peak shape at SRT more than 30 days.The filtration resistance of membrane in IMBR is mainly caused by the tiny particles and the viscosity of the mixed liquor.In this study,the extension of SRT can hardly affect the removal efficiency of Chemical Oxygen Demand(COD) and NH+4―N,and when SRT is below 30 days,silt density index(SDI15) is less than 3,the effluent can be deeply treated by using reverse osmosis system(RO) or nano-filtration system(NF).The method of controlling SRT is put forward by analyzing the relationship between SRT and the minimum generation-time of dominant bacteria(at the maximum specific growth rate under the operation temperature).CAO ZhanPing ZHANG JingLi ZHANG HongWei 2008Chinese Science Bulletin2008,53,24:2

16Research and applications of artificial neural network in pavement engineering:A state-of-the-art review显示文摘Given the great advancements in soft computing and data science,artificial neural network(ANN)has been explored and applied to handle complicated problems in the field of pavement engineering.This study conducted a state-of-the-art review for surveying the recent progress of ANN application at different stages of pavement engineering,including pavement design,construction,inspection and monitoring,and maintenance.This study focused on the papers published over the last three decades,especially the studies conducted since 2013.Through literature retrieval,a total of 683 papers in this field were identified,among which 143 papers were selected for an in-depth review.The ANN architectures used in these studies mainly included multi-layer perceptron neural network(MLPNN),convolutional neural network(CNN)and recurrent neural network(RNN)for processing one-dimensional data,two-dimensional data and time-series data.CNN-based pavement health inspection and monitoring attracted the largest research interest due to its potential to replace human labor.While ANN has been proved to be an effective tool for pavement material design,cost analysis,defect detection and maintenance planning,it is facing huge challenges in terms of data collection,parameter optimization,model transferability and low-cost data annotation.More attention should be paid to bring multidisciplinary techniques into pavement engineering to tackle existing challenges and widen future opportunities.Xu Yang Jinchao Guan Ling Ding Zhanping You Vincent C.S.Lee Mohd Rosli Mohd Hasan Xiaoyun Cheng 2021Journal of Traffic and Transportation Engineering(English Edition)2021,8,6:2
17Effect of Acid Rain Erosion on Steel Fiber Reinforced Concrete显示文摘Acid rain can deteriorate the performance of reinforced concrete structure.Combined with the characteristics of acid rain in China,the properties of steel fiber reinforced concrete subjected to acid rain were studied.The effects of steel fiber content and pH value of acid rain on the mass loss,erosion depth,neutralization depth,and splitting tensile strength of tested concrete were investigated.The mercury intrusion pore(MIP) test was used to analyze the influence of steel fiber on the acid rain resistance of concrete matrix.The results show that the corrosion of steel fiber reinforced concrete subjected to acid rain results from the combined effect of H^+ and SO_4^(2-) in the acid rain,and steel fiber can improve the acid rain resistance of the tested concrete by improving the pore structure and enhancing the tie effect of the concrete matrix.The experiment further indicates that the optimum content of steel fiber is 1.5%compared to the various mixing proportion in this tests.The tested concrete mass loss and splitting tensile strength decrease followed by increasing as a function of corrosion time when the pH value of the simulation solution is 3 or 4,while they decrease continuously in the simulation solution at pH 2.Thanks to the tie effect of steel fiber,the spalling of concrete matrix is significantly improved,and the erosion depth and neutralization depth are less than those of conventional concrete.王艳 牛荻涛 SONG Zhanping 2017Journal of Wuhan University of Technology(Materials Science)2017,32,1:2
