| 1 | Spatiotemporal variability of ocean chemistry in the early Cambrian,South China显示文摘Following the Ediacaran metazoan radiation,the 'Cambrian Explosion' set up the major framework of todays' animal phyla as well as modern marine ecosystem.Here,we present a preliminary investigation on the temporal and spatial(from shallow to deep waters) variations of the early Cambrian ocean chemistry in South China through analyzing a Fe-S-C systematic dataset integrated from literature.Our investigation indicates that the early Cambrian deep ocean in South China was still anoxic and Fe2+-enriched(i.e.,ferruginous) although its surface was oxic,and in between a metastable euxinic(anoxic and sulfidic) water zone may have dynamically developed in anoxic shelf waters with an increasing weathering sulfate supply.Furthermore,accompanying marine transgression and regression cycles in the early Cambrian,such a 'sandwich' structure in ocean redox chemistry demonstrates five evolutional stages,which can be well correlated to the spatiotemporal patterns of fossil records in South China.The good correlation between metazoan fossil occurrences and water chemistry in South China suggests that early animals possibly possessed ability to inhabit anoxic but generally not euxinic environments as free H2S was fatal to most eukaryotes.This view can well explain why those small shell fauna and sponges disappeared from shelf to slope areas where sulfidic Ni-Mo-rich shales were widely deposited.Thus,we conclude that the spatiotemporal variations of ocean chemistry and its biological effects probably played a key role in the phased animal radiations and 'extinctions' in the early Cambrian. | JIN ChengSheng LI Chao PENG XingFang CUI Hao SHI Wei ZHANG ZiHu LUO GenMing XIE ShuCheng | 2014 | Science China Earth Sciences2014,57,4: | 5 |

| 8 | Genome-wide association study reveals candidate genes for gummy stem blight resistance in cucumber显示文摘Gummy stem blight(GSB),caused by Didymella bryoniae,is a serious fungal disease that leads to decline in cucumber yield and quality.The molecular mechanism of GSB resistance in cucumber remains unclear.Here,we investigated the GSB resistance of cucumber core germplasms from four geographic groups at the seedling and adult stages.A total of 9 SNPs related to GSB resistance at the seedling stage and 26 SNPs at the adult stage were identified,of which some are co-localized to previously mapped Quantitative trait loci(QTLs)for GSB resistance(gsb3.2/gsb3.3,gsb5.1,and gsb-s6.2).Based on haplotype analysis and expression levels after inoculation,four candidate genes were identified within the region identified by both Genome-wide association study(GWAS)and previous identified QTL mapping,including Csa3G129470 for gsb3.2/gsb3.3,Csa5G606820 and Csa5G606850 for gsb5.1,and Csa6G079730 for gsb-s6.2.The novel GSB resistant accessions,significant SNPs,and candidate genes facilitate the breeding of GSB resistant cucumber cultivars and provide a novel idea for understanding GSB resistance mechanism in cucumber. | Jianan Han Shaoyun Dong Yanxia Shi Zhuonan Dai Han Miao Baoju Li Xingfang Gu Shengping Zhang | 2023 | Horticultural Plant Journal2023,9,2: | 1 |
| 9 | Molecular basis of heterosis and related breeding strategies reveal its importance in vegetable breeding显示文摘Heterosis has historically been exploited in plants;however,its underlying genetic mechanisms and molecular basis remain elusive.In recent years,due to advances in molecular biotechnology at the genome,transcriptome,proteome,and epigenome levels,the study of heterosis in vegetables has made significant progress.Here,we present an extensive literature review on the genetic and epigenetic regulation of heterosis in vegetables.We summarize six hypotheses to explain the mechanism by which genes regulate heterosis,improve upon a possible model of heterosis that is triggered by epigenetics,and analyze previous studies on quantitative trait locus effects and gene actions related to heterosis based on analyses of differential gene expression in vegetables.We also discuss the contributions of yield-related traits,including flower,fruit,and plant architecture traits,during heterosis development in vegetables(e.g.,cabbage,cucumber,and tomato).More importantly,we propose a comprehensive breeding strategy based on heterosis studies in vegetables and crop plants.The description of the strategy details how to obtain F_(1) hybrids that exhibit heterosis based on heterosis prediction,how to obtain elite lines based on molecular biotechnology,and how to maintain heterosis by diploid seed breeding and the selection of hybrid simulation lines that are suitable for heterosis research and utilization in vegetables.Finally,we briefly provide suggestions and perspectives on the role of heterosis in the future of vegetable breeding. | Daoliang Yu Xingfang Gu Shengping Zhang Shaoyun Dong Han Miao Kiros Gebretsadik Kailiang Bo | 2021 | Horticulture Research2021,8,1: | 1 |

| 15 | Natural variation in STAYGREEN contributes to low-temperature tolerance in cucumber显示文摘Low-temperature(LT)stress threatens cucumber production globally;however,the molecular mechanisms underlying LT tolerance in cucumber remain largely unknown.Here,using a genome-wide association study(GWAS),we found a naturally occurring single nucleotide polymorphism(SNP)in the STAYGREEN(CsSGR)coding region at the gLTT5.1 locus associated with LT tolerance.Knockout mutants of CsSGR generated by clustered regularly interspaced palindromic repeats(CRISPR)/CRISPR-associated nuclease 9 exhibit enhanced LT tolerance,in particularly,increased chlorophyll(Chl)content and reduced reactive oxygen species(ROS)accumulation in response to LT.Moreover,the C-repeat Binding Factor 1(CsCBF1)transcription factor can directly activate the expression of CsSGR.We demonstrate that the LT-sensitive haplotype CsSGRHapA,but not the LT-tolerant haplotype CsSGR^(HapG)could interact with NON-YELLOW COLORING 1(CsNYC1)to mediate Chl degradation.Geographic distribution of the CsSGR haplotypes indicated that the CsSGR^(HapG)was selected in cucumber accessions from high latitudes,potentially contributing to LT tolerance during cucumber cold-adaptation in these regions.CsSGR mutants also showed enhanced tolerance to salinity,water deficit,and Pseudoperonospora cubensis,thus CsSGR is an elite target gene for breeding cucumber varieties with broad-spectrum stress tolerance.Collectively,our findings provide new insights into LT tolerance and will ultimately facilitate cucumber molecular breeding. | Shaoyun Dong Caixia Li Haojie Tian Weiping Wang Xueyong Yang Diane MBeckles Xiaoping Liu Jiantao Guan Xingfang Gu Jiaqiang Sun Han Miao Shengping Zhang | 2023 | Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2023,65,12: | 0 |
| 16 | Determination of the predictive factors for diagnostic positivity of nucleic acid amplification tests for diagnosing pulmonary tuberculosis显示文摘Background:Tuberculosis(TB)remains a major threat to human health,and TB diagnostic methods remain unsatisfactory.Nucleic acid amplification tests(NAATs)show higher sensitivity compared with culture for the diagnosis of pulmonary TB(PTB).However,NAATs are expensive and cannot be easily implemented outside major medical centers.To improve the sensitivity of NAATs for PTB diagnosis,we investigated the predictive factors that might optimize NAAT utilization.Methods:A total of 1263 patients with suspected PTB were enrolled for evaluation.The sensitivity,specificity,and accuracy of methods including smear-microbiology,culture of Mtb and NAAT for Mycobacterium tuberculosis(Mtb)detection in sputum and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid samples were compared.Odds ratios and 95%confidence intervals were used to assess variables that might be associated with positive NAAT results for sputum and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid from patients with suspected PTB.Results:NAAT showed higher sensitivity for Mtb detection(61.1%)when compared with smear(9.0%)and Mtb culture(47.8%).We found that an elevated erythrocyte sedimentation rate,the presence of cavities,and positive interferon-��release assay(IGRA)results were indicative of positive Mtb detection by NAAT.Moreover,individuals who had all three of these characteristics showed an 86%diagnostic positivity for PTB from Mtb detection by NAAT.Conclusions:Our study suggests that an elevated erythrocyte sedimentation rate,a positive IGRA result,and the presence of pulmonary cavities are helpful factors for predicting positive Mtb detection by NAAT.Patients with the three positive clinical markers should undergo NAAT for Mtb detection because they are the most likely individuals to be bacteriologically confirmed as having TB. | Xingfang Hou Qinglong Guo Qiao Lin Taosheng Ye Jing Bi Juan Liang Ke Yang Yuan Zhou Juanjuan Zhang Zhihang Liang Xuefeng Zhou Gengwei Zhang Xiangdong Fu Hongjian Zhong Guoliang Zhang | 2022 | Infectious Medicine2022,1,1: | 0 |
| 17 | Leguminosae plants play a key role in affecting soil physical-chemical and biological properties during grassland succession after farmland abandonment in the Loess Plateau,China显示文摘Leguminosae are an important part of terrestrial ecosystems and play a key role in promoting soil nutrient cycling and improving soil properties.However,plant composition and species diversity change rapidly during the process of succession,the effect of leguminosae on soil physical-chemical and biological properties is still unclear.This study investigated the changes in the composition of plant community,vegetation characteristics,soil physical-chemical properties,and soil biological properties on five former farmlands in China,which had been abandoned for 0,5,10,18,and 30 a.Results showed that,with successional time,plant community developed from annual plants to perennial plants,the importance of Leguminosae and Asteraceae significantly increased and decreased,respectively,and the importance of grass increased and then decreased,having a maximum value after 5 a of abandonment.Plant diversity indices increased with successional time,and vegetation coverage and above-and below-ground biomass increased significantly with successional time after 5 a of abandonment.Compared with farmland,30 a of abandonment significantly increased soil nutrient content,but total and available phosphorus decreased with successional time.Changes in plant community composition and vegetation characteristics not only change soil properties and improve soil physical-chemical properties,but also regulate soil biological activity,thus affecting soil nutrient cycling.Among these,Leguminosae have the greatest influence on soil properties,and their importance values and community composition are significantly correlated with soil properties.Therefore,this research provides more scientific guidance for selecting plant species to stabilize soil ecosystem of farmland to grassland in the Loess Plateau,China. | SUN Lin YU Zhouchang TIAN Xingfang ZHANG Ying SHI Jiayi FU Rong LIANG Yujie ZHANG Wei | 2023 | Journal of Arid Land2023,15,9: | 0 |

| 19 | A potential-responsive ion-pump system based on nickel hexacyanoferrate film for selective extraction of cesium ions显示文摘A nickel hexacyanoferrate(NiHCF)film electrode was prepared with NiHCF,conductive carbon black,and polyvinylidene difluoride,which was coated on graphite plate substrate for selective extraction of Cs^(+)ions by using electrochemically switched ion exchange(ESIX)technology.A potential-responsive ionpump system for efficient extraction of Cs+ions was designed,and the effect of wet film thicknesses,charging modes,flow rates,and chamber widths on Cs+ions extraction performance was investigated.In the system,the adsorption capacity and removal percentage of Cs^(+)ions on the NiHCF film electrode reached as high as 147.69 mg·g^(-1)and 92.47%,respectively.Furthermore,the NiHCF film electrode showed high selectivity for Cs^(+)ions and stability.After seven cycles of adsorption/desorption,the desorption percentage could reach about 100%.The excellent Cs^(+)extraction performance should be attributed to the strong driving force produced by the potential-responsive ion-pumping effect in the ESIX process,as well as the low ion transfer resistance of the film electrode which is caused by the special crystal structure of NiHCF.In addition,the NiHCF film electrode was implemented to work together with the bismuth oxybromide(BiOBr)film electrode to accomplish the simultaneous extraction of Cs^(+)and Br^(-).And the adsorption capacity and removal percentage of Br^(-)ions on the BiOBr film electrode reached 69.53 mg·g^(-1)and 77.32%,correspondingly.It is expected that such a potential-responsive ion-pump system based on NiHCF and BiOBr film electrodes could be used for the selective extraction and concentration of Cs^(+)and Br^(-)ions from salt lake brine. | Guoliang Zeng Danni Ye Xingfang Zhang Fengfeng Gao Xiaogang Hao Jun Li Zhong Liu | 2023 | Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2023,63,11: | 0 |
