1Disturbance impacts of land use change on biodiversity conservation priority areas across China: 1990-2010显示文摘Land use change is one of the main drivers of biodiversity loss. In the last 20 years, China's land use pattern has undergone profound changes. This study constructs an Ecosystem Comprehensive Anthropogenic Disturbance Index(ECADI) to assess disturbance impacts of land use change between 1990 and 2010 on biodiversity conservation priority areas at national and regional scales. Four levels of biodiversity conservation areas were categorized: generally important areas, moderately important areas, important areas, and very important areas. The results indicated a higher ECADI value in 2010 in Central and Eastern China than in Western China, and the values of the moderately important, important and very important regions were lower than the average value of the whole country at all levels. Notably, in recent 20 years, the change extent of ECADI values in Central and Eastern China were much greater compared with that in Western China, and ECADI values in the moderately important, important and very important biodiversity conservation areas all showed increasing trends, with the increasing extent lower than that of whole China at all levels. Due to human activities such as urbanization in Eastern China and cropland reclamation in Northeast China and Xinjiang, ECADI values showed a medium increase trend(the change rate was about 1%–5% in 10 years), which indicated the need for more conservation efforts in those regions. However, ECADI values in the Loess Plateau presented a low decline trend(the change rate was about –1% to –0.1% in 10 years) after 2000 because of the obvious effectiveness of Green for Grain Project. 3Radiative forcing over China due to albedo change caused by land cover change during 1990-2010显示文摘Land cover change affects surface radiation budget and energy balance by changing surface albedo and further impacts the regional and global climate. In this article, high spatial and temporal resolution satellite products were used to analyze the driving mechanism for surface albedo change caused by land cover change during 1990–2010. In addition, the annual-scale radiative forcing caused by surface albedo changes in China's 50 ecological regions were calculated to reveal the biophysical mechanisms of land cover change affecting climate change at regional scale. Our results showed that the national land cover changes were mainly caused by land reclamation, grassland desertification and urbanization in past 20 years, which were almost induced by anthropogenic activities. Grassland and forest area decreased by 0.60% and 0.11%, respectively. The area of urban and farmland increased by 0.60% and 0.19%, respectively. The mean radiative forcing caused by land cover changes during 1990–2010 was 0.062 W/m2 in China, indicating a warming climate effect. However, spatial heterogeneity of radiative forcing was huge among different ecological regions. Farmland conversing to urban construction land, the main type of land cover change for the urban and suburban agricultural ecological region in Beijing-Tianjin-Tangshan region, caused an albedo reduction by 0.00456 and a maximum positive radiative forcing of 0.863 W/m2, which was presented as warming climate effects. 4Spatio-temporal Characteristics of Disturbance of Land Use Change on Major Ecosystem Function Zones in China显示文摘In recent years, because of increasing human activities, ecosystems have been substantially disturbed and their service functions have been greatly compromised. Based on the effect of land use changes on the major ecosystem services, we estimated the ecosystem comprehensive anthropogenic disturbance index(ECADI) and analyzed the spatio-temporal characteristics of changes in the ECADI in China from 1990 to 2010. The average ECADI of the major ecosystem function zones in China in 2010 is approximately 0.382. The ECADI of Northeast China and North China is slightly higher than that of Northwest China and Southwest China. Most zones have slight changes in the ECADI. The average increases of ECADI in the major ecosystem function zones in China from 1990 to 2000 and from 2000 to 2010 are 0.0024 and 0.0002, respectively. The increase is mainly due to reclamation and urbanization, whereas the decrease is due to the implementation of ecosystem protection policies. During the last 20 years, the ECADI of water resources conservation zones increased first, and then stopped. The ECADI of soil conservation zones increased first, and then declined. The ECADI of sandstorm prevention zones, biodiversity conservation zones and flooding mitigation zones increased continuously. Our results may provide proposals to the government regarding land use planning and ecosystem protection plans in the major ecosystem zones. The major ecosystem function zones in the western part of China have been protected effectively. 5Monitoring Intra-annual Spatiotemporal Changes in Urban Heat Islands in 1449 Cities in China Based on Remote Sensing显示文摘This study aimed to accurately study the intra-annual spatiotemporal variation in the surface urban heat island intensities(SUHIIs) in 1449 cities in China.First, China was divided into five environmental regions.Then, the SUHIIs were accurately calculated based on the modified definitions of the city extents and their corresponding nearby rural areas.Finally, we explored the spatiotemporal variation of the mean, maximum, and minimum values, and ranges of SUHIIs from several aspects.The results showed that larger annual mean daytime SUHIIs occurred in hot-humid South China and cold-humid northeastern China, and the smallest occurred in arid and semiarid west China.The seasonal order of the SUHIIs was summer > spring > autumn > winter in all the temperate regions except west China.The SUHIIs were obviously larger during the rainy season than the dry season in the tropical region.Nevertheless, significant differences were not observed between the two seasons within the rainy or dry periods.During the daytime, the maximum SUHIIs mostly occurred in summer in each region, while the minimum occurred in winter.A few cold island phenomena existed during the nighttime.The maximum SUHIIs were generally significantly positively correlated with the minimum SUHIIs during the daytime, nighttime and all-day in all environmental regions throughout the year and the four seasons.Moreover, significant correlation scarcely existed between the daytime and nighttime ranges of the SUHIIs.In addition, the daytime SUHIIs were also insignificantly correlated with the nighttime SUHIIs in half of the cases.LI Yuanzheng WANG Lan ZHANG Liping LIU Min ZHAO Guosong 2019Chinese Geographical Science2019,29,6:3
6The relationships between urban-rural temperature difference and vegetation in eight cities of the Great Plains显示文摘Interpreting the relationship between urban heat island (UHI) and urban vegetation is a basis for understanding the impacts of underlying surfaces on UHL The calculation of UHI intensity (UHII) requires observations from paired stations in both urban and rural areas.Due to the limited number of paired meteorological stations,many studies have used remotely sensed land surface temperature,but these time-series land surface temperature data are often heavily affected by cloud cover and other factors.These factors,together with the algorithm for inversion of land surface temperature,lead to accuracy problems in detecting the UHII,especially in cities with weak UHII.Based on meteorological observations from the Oklahoma Mesonet,a world-class network,we quantified the UHII and trends in eight cities of the Great Plains,USA,where data from at least one pair of urban and rural meteorological stations were available.We examined the changes and variability in urban temperature,UHII,vegetation condition (as measured by enhanced vegetation index,EVI),and evapotranspiration (ET).We found that both UHI and urban cold islands (UCI) occurred among the eight cities during 2000-2014 (as measured by impervious surface area).Unlike what is generally considered,UHII in only three cities significantly decreased as EVI and ET increased (p < 0.1),indicating that the UHI or UCI cannot be completely explained simply from the perspective of the underlying surface.Increased vegetative cover (signaled by EVI) can increase ET,and thereby effectively mitigate the UHI.Each study station clearly showed that the underlying surface or vegetation affects urban-rural temperature,and that these factors should be considered during analysis of the UHI effect over time.Yaoping CUI Xiangming XIAO Russell B DOUGHTY Yaochen QIN Sujie LIU Nan LI Guosong ZHAO Jinwei DONG 2019Frontiers of Earth Science2019,13,2:2

8Multiplex genome editing using a dCas9-cytidine deaminase fusion in Streptomyces显示文摘CRISPR/Cas-mediated genome editing has greatly facilitated the study of gene function in Streptomyces. However, it could not be efficiently employed in streptomycetes with low homologous recombination(HR) ability. Here, a deaminase-assisted base editor d Cas9-CDA-ULstr was developed in Streptomyces, which comprises the nuclease-deficient Cas9(dCas9), the cytidine deaminase from Petromyzon marinus(PmCDA1), the uracil DNA glycosylase inhibitor(UGI) and the protein degradation tag(LVA tag). Using d Cas9-CDA-ULstr , we achieved single-, double-and triple-point mutations(cytosine-to-thymine substitutions)at target sites in Streptomyces coelicolor with efficiency up to 100%, 60% and 20%, respectively. This base editor was also demonstrated to be highly efficient for base editing in the industrial strain, Streptomyces rapamycinicus, which produces the immunosuppressive agent rapamycin. Compared with base editors derived from the cytidine deaminase rAPOBEC1, the PmCDA1-assisted base editor dCas9-CDA-ULstr could edit cytosines preceded by guanosines with high efficiency, which is a great advantage for editing Streptomyces genomes(with high GC content). Collectively, the base editor dCas9-CDA-ULstr could be employed for efficient multiplex genome editing in Streptomyces. 10A harlequin ichthyosis pig model with a novel ABCA12 mutation can be rescued by acitretin treatment显示文摘Harlequin ichthyosis (HI) is a severe genetic skin disorder and caused by mutation in the ATP-binding cassette A12 (ABCA12) gene. The retinoid administration has dramatically improved long-term survival of HI, but improvements are still needed. However, the ABCA12 null mice failed to respond to retinoid treatment, which impedes the development of novel cure strategies for HI. Here we generated an ethylnitrosourea mutagenic HI pig model (named Z9), which carries a novel deep intronic mutation IVS49-727 A>G in the ABCA12 gene, resulting in abnormal mRNA splicing and truncated protein production. Z9 pigs exhibit significant clinical symptom as human patients with HI. Most importantly, systemic retinoid treatment significantly prolonged the life span of the mutant pigs via improving epidermal maturation, decreasing epidermal apoptosis, and triggering the expression of ABCA6. 12Bimetallic catalysts as electrocatalytic cathode materials for the oxygen reduction reaction in microbial fuel cell:A review显示文摘Microbial fuel cell(MFC) is one synchronous power generation device for wastewater treatment that takes into account environmental and energy issues, exhibiting promising potential. Sluggish oxygen reduction reaction(ORR) kinetics on the cathode remains by far the most critical bottleneck hindering the practical application of MFC. An ideal cathode catalyst should possess excellent ORR activity, stability, and costeffectiveness, experiments have demonstrated that bimetallic catalysts are one of the most promising ORR catalysts currently. Based on this, this review mainly analyzes the reaction mechanism(ORR mechanisms, synergistic effects), advantages(combined with characterization technologies), and typical synthesis methods of bimetallic catalysts, focusing on the application effects of early Pt-M(M = Fe, Co, and Ni) alloys to bifunctional catalysts in MFC, pointing out that the main existing challenges remain economic analysis, long-term durability and large-scale application, and looking forward to this. 13Supramolecular assembly of Cp1-11 peptide and insulin for rapid-acting formulation显示文摘In order to improve the life quality of diabetic patients,it is very important to develop rapid-acting insulin formulations that can mimic the physiological meal-time secretion profile of insulin in healthy people.Although several insulin analogues have been designed to provide postprandial glycemic control,still there are some serious disadvantages.A supramolecular strategy is presented here to inhibit insulin aggregation and improve its bioactivity by using Cp1-11 peptide.As a fragment of C-peptide in proinsulin,Cp1-11 peptide was found to influence insulin oligomerization by supramolecular interactions.This work demonstrates that the Cp1-11 peptide can interact with oligomeric insulin and facilitate its disaggregation into the physiologically active monomeric form.Computer simulation indicates that Cp1-11 can insert into the space between the C-terminal tail and the N-terminal helix of the B-chain of insulin,causing dissociation of the insulin dimer.The supramolecular assembly of Cp1-11 and insulin can improve the bioavailability and therapeutic effect of insulin on the control of in vivo blood glucose levels.These results suggest that Cp1-11 peptide can modulate the intermolecular interaction of aggregated insulin and prevent the transition from monomeric to multimeric states,and shows great potential for the development of an effective rapid-acting strategy to treat diabetes.Weigang Wang Sheyu Li Zhouxiang Zhao Anna Zhou Yanpeng Liu Yantao Chen Mingchang Lin Guosong Chen Chunmei Ding Jianshu Li 2017Journal of Bioresources and Bioproducts2017,2,3:0
14Achieving gradient heterogeneous structure in Mg alloy for excellent strength-ductility synergy显示文摘Most metals including Mg alloys have a longstanding dilemma of strength-ductility trade-off,which is hindering their wider applications.In this study,we propose a gradient heterogeneous grain(GHG)structure for evading this trade-off dilemma and ultrasonic severe surface rolling is attempted to construct this novel structure in ZE41 Mg alloy.Here,the GHG structure combine the benefits of gradient structure and heterogeneous grain structure and introduce large microstructural heterogeneities.Compared to the coarse-grain and heterogeneous-grain structured alloys,the GHG structured one exhibits dramatical enhancement in strength,ductility,and strain hardening capability.To the best of our knowledge,its strength becomes much higher than that of common ZE41 Mg alloys at no reduction in ductility.These unique mechanical properties stem from not only the individual contribution of the heterogeneous structure components including the fine/ultrafine grains and deformed coarse grains but also their synergistic effect via hetero-deformation induced strengthening and hardening effects.In summary,our study provides a feasible way to develop new Mg alloys with high strength and good ductility.Jing Han Jiapeng Sun Yuanming Song Bingqian Xu Zhenquan Yang Songsong Xu Ying Han Guosong Wu Jiyun Zhao 2023Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2023,11,7:0
