1Exotic origin of the Chinese continental shelf: new insights into the tectonic evolution of the western Pacific and eastern China since the Mesozoic显示文摘The effect of paleo-Pacific subduction on the geological evolution of the western Pacific and continental China is likely complex. Nevertheless, our analysis of the distribution of Mesozoic granitoids in the eastern continental China in space and time has led us to an interesting conclusion: The basement of the continental shelf beneath East and South China Seas may actually be of exotic origin geologically unrelated to the continental lithosphere of eastern China. By accepting the notion that the Jurassic–Cretaceous granitoids in the region are genetically associated with western Pacific subduction and the concept that subduction may cease to continue only if the trench is being jammed, then the termination of the granitoidmagmatism throughout the vast region at *88 ± 2 Ma manifests the likelihood of ‘‘sudden'', or shortly beforehand(*100 Ma), trench jam of the Mesozoic western Pacific subduction. Trench jam happens if the incoming‘‘plate'' or portion of the plate contains a sizeable mass that is too buoyant to subduct. The best candidate for such a buoyant and unsubductable mass is either an oceanic plateau or a micro-continent. We hypothesize that the basement of the Chinese continental shelf represents such an exotic, buoyant and unsubductable mass, rather than seaward extension of the continental lithosphere of eastern China. The locus of the jammed trench(i.e., the suture) is predictably located on the shelf in the vicinity of, and parallel to, the arc-curved coastal line of the southeast continental China. It is not straightforward to locate the locus in the northern section of the East China Sea shelf because of the more recent(\20 Ma) tectonic re-organization associated with the opening of the Sea of Japan. We predict that the trench jam at *100 Ma led to the re-orientation of the Pacific plate motion in the course of NNW direction as inferred from the age-progressive Emperor Seamount Chain of Hawaiian hotspot origin(its oldest unsubdued Meiji and Detroit seamounts are *82 Ma),making the boundary between the Pacific plate and the newly accreted plate of eastern Asia a transform fault at the location east of the continental shelf of exotic origin. This explains the apparent *40 Myr magmatic gap from *88to *50 Ma prior to present-day western Pacific subduction initiation. We propose that basement penetration drilling on well-chosen sites is needed to test the hypothesis in order to reveal the true nature of the Chinese continental shelf basement. This testing becomes critical and cannot longer be neglected in order to genuinely understand the tectonic evolution of the western Pacific and its effect on the geology of eastern China since the Mesozoic, includingthe cratonic lithosphere thinning, related magmatism/mineralization, and the mechanism of the subsequent South China Sea opening, while also offering novel perspectives on aspects of the plate tectonics theory. We also suggest the importance of future plate tectonic reconstruction of the western Pacific to consider the nature and histories of the Chinese continental shelf of exotic origin as well as the probable transform plate boundary from *100 to*50 Ma. 4Petrogenesis and tectonic implications of the Triassic rhyolites in the East Kunlun Orogenic Belt, northern Tibetan Plateau显示文摘The East Kunlun Orogenic Belt(EKOB),which is in the northern part of the Greater Tibetan Plateau,contains voluminous Late Triassic intermediate-felsic volcanic rocks.In the east end of the EKOB,we identified highly differentiated peralkaline-like Xiangride rhyolites(~209 Ma)that differ from the widespread andesitic-rhyolitic Elashan volcanics(~232–225 Ma)in terms of their field occurrences and mineral assemblages.The older,more common calc-alkaline felsic Elashan volcanics may have originated from partial melting of the underthrust Paleo-Tethys oceanic crust under amphibolite facies conditions associated with continental collision.The felsic Elashan volcanics and syn-collisional granitoids of the EKOB are different products of the same magmatic event related to continental collision.The Xiangride rhyolites are characterized by elevated abundances of high field strength elements,especially the very high Nb and Ta contents,the very low Ba,Sr,Eu,P,and Ti contents;and the variably high ^(87)Sr/^(86)Sr ratios(up to 0.96),exhibiting remarkable similarities to the characteristic peralkaline rhyolites.The primitive magmas parental to the Xiangride rhyolites were most likely alkali basaltic magmas that underwent protracted fractional crystallization with continental crust contamination.The rock associations from the early granitoids and calc-alkaline volcanic rocks to the late alkaline basaltic dikes and peralkaline-like rhyolites in the Triassic provide important information about the tectonic evolution of the EKOB from syn-collisional to post-collisional.We infer that the transition from collisional compression to postcollisional extension occurred at about 220 Ma.Fengli Shao Yaoling Niu Juanjuan Kong Yi Liu Guodong Wang Yu Zhang 2021Geoscience Frontiers2021,12,6:3
5Clinical manifestations and pathogen characteristics in children admitted for suspected COVID-19显示文摘Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19),which is caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2(SARS-CoV-2),has spread around the world.However,approaches to distinguish COVID-19 from pneumonia caused by other pathogens have not yet been reported.We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of 97 children with probable COVID-19.A total of 13(13.4%)patients were confirmed positive for SARS-CoV-2 infection by nucleic acid RT-PCR testing,and 41(42.3%)patients were found to be infected with other pathogens.Notably,no pathogen was detected in 43(44.3%)patients.Among all patients,25(25.8%)had familial cluster exposure history,and 52(53.6%)had one or more coexisting conditions.Fifteen(15.5%)patients were admitted or transferred to the PICU.In the 11 confirmed COVID-19 cases,5(45.5%)and 7(63.6%)were positive for IgM and IgG against SARS-CoV-2,respectively.In 22 patients with suspected COVID-19,1(4.5%)was positive for IgG but negative for IgM.The most frequently detected pathogen was Mycoplasma pneumonia(29,29.9%).One patient with confirmed COVID-19 died.Our results strongly indicated that the detection of asymptomatic COVID-19 or coexisting conditions must be strengthened in pediatric patients.These cases may be difficult to diagnose as COVID-19 unless etiologic analysis is conducted.A serologic test can be a useful adjunctive diagnostic tool in cases where SARS-CoV-2 infection is highly suspected but the nucleic acid test is negative.Xiaofang Cai Hanlan Jiang Simin Zhang Shengying Xia Wenhui Du Yaoling Ma Tao Yu Wenbin Li 2020Frontiers of Medicine2020,14,6:2
6Linking the electron donation capacity to the molecular composition of soil dissolved organic matter from the Three Gorges Reservoir areas,China显示文摘Soil dissolved organic matter(DOM)plays an essential role in the Three Gorges Reservoir(TGR)as a linkage between terrestrial and aquatic systems.In particular,the reducing capacities of soil DOM influence the geochemistry of contaminants such as mercury(Hg).However,few studies have investigated the molecular information of soil DOM and its relationship with relevant geochemic al reactivities,including redox properties.We collected samples from eight sites in the TGR areas and studied the link between the molecular characteristics of DOM and their electron donation capacities(EDCs)toward Hg(II).The average kinetic rate and EDC of soil DOM in TGR areas were(0.004±0.001)hr-1 and(2.88±1.39)nmol e-/mg DOMbulk,respectively.Results suggest that higher EDCs and relatively rapid kinetics were related to the greater electron donating components of ligninderived and perhaps pyrogenic DOM,which are the aromatic constituents that influenced the reducing capacities of DOM in the present study.Molecular details revealed that even the typical autochthonous markers are important for the EDCs of DOM as well,in contrast to what is generally assumed.More studies identifying specific DOM molecular components involved in the abiotic reduction of Hg(II)are required to further understand the relations between DOM sources and their redox roles in the environmental fate of contaminants.Tao Jiang Joeri Kaal Jiang Liu Jian Liang Yaoling Zhang Dingyong Wang 2020Journal of Environmental Sciences2020,32,4:2
7Tectonics and Topography of the Tibetan Plateau in Early Miocene显示文摘Early Miocene stratigraphy, major structural systems, magmatic emplacement, volcanic eruption, vegetation change and paleo-elevation were analyzed for the Tibetan Plateau after regional geological mapping at a scale of 1:250,000 and related researches, revealing much more information for tectonic evolution and topographic change of the high plateau caused by Indian-Asian continental collision. Lacustrine deposits of dolostone, dolomite limestone, limestone, marl, sandstone and conglomerate of weak deformation formed extensively in the central Tibetan Plateau, indicating that vast lake complexes as large as 100,000–120,000 km2 existed in the central plateau during Early Miocene. Sporopollen assemblages contained in the lacustrine strata indicate the disappearance of most tropical-subtropical broad-leaved trees since Early Miocene and the flourishing of dark needleleaved trees during Early Miocene. Such vegetation changes adjusted for latitude and global climate variations demonstrate that the central Tibetan Plateau rose to ca. 4,000–4,500 m and the northeastern plateau uplifted to ca. 3,500–4,000 m before the Early Miocene. Intensive thrust and crustal thickening occurred in the areas surrounding central Tibetan Plateau in Early Miocene, formed Gangdise Thrust System(GTS) in the southern Lhasa block, Zedong-Renbu Thrust(ZRT) in the northern Himalaya block, Main Central Thrust(MCT) and Main Boundary Thrust(MBT) in the southern Himalaya block, and regional thrust systems in the Qaidam, Qilian, West Kunlun and Songpan-Ganzi blocks. Foreland basins formed in Early Miocene along major thrust systems, e.g. the Siwalik basin along MCT, Yalung-Zangbu Basin along GTS and ZRT, southwestern Tarim depression along West Kunlun Thrust, and large foreland basins along major thrust systems in the northeastern margin of the plateau. Intensive volcanic eruptions formed in the Qiangtang, Hoh-Xil and Kunlun blocks, porphyry granites and volcanic eruptions formed in the Nainqentanglha and Gangdise Mts., and leucogranites and granites formed in the Himalaya and Longmenshan Mts. in Early Miocene. The K2O weight percentages of Early Miocene magmatic rocks in the Gangdise and Himlayan Mts. are found to increase with distance from the MBT, indicating the genetic relationship between regional magmatism and subduction of Indian continental plate in Early Miocene.WU Zhenhan YANG Yan Patrick J. 12High Power 170 GHz Frequency Doubler Based on Ga As Schottky Diodes显示文摘The research on high power 170 GHz frequency doubler based on the Ga As Schottky diodes is proposed in this paper. This basic doubler cell is developed with a 50-μm-thick, 600-μm-wide, and 2-mm-long Al N substrate with high thermal conductivity to reduce the thermal effect. Besides, power combined frequency doubler has been fabricated to improve the power capacity by a factor of two. Great agreement has been achieved between the simulated results based on electrothermal model and measured performances. At room temperature, the 3 d B bandwidth of the single doubler based on Ga As Schottky diodes is 11.8% over the frequency range from 160 to 180 GHz with pumping power of 150 to330 m W. And the peak efficiency of the doubler is measured to be 33.1%, while the maximum output power is101.7 m W at 174.08 GHz. As for power combined circuit,the best efficiency is 30.1% with a related output power of204.6 m W. 19Chemical composition and Pb(II)binding of dissolved organic matter in a hypersaline lake in China显示文摘Dissolved organic matter(DOM)plays a vital role in promoting carbon and nutrient cycling.It is a food source for organisms and controls the migration and transformation of trace metals and other contaminants in aquatic systems.The contributions of aquatic DOM to the environment and ecology of a system are closely related to its abundance and chemical structure.In this study,the chemical composition and binding properties of DOM in a hypersaline lake watershed were investigated for the fi rst time using dissolved organic carbon(DOC)analysis,absorption spectroscopy,Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy,pyrolysis-GC-MS(Py-GC-MS),and fl uorescence parallel factor(PARAFAC)analysis combined with Pb(II)titration techniques.The results showed that DOM from the tributaries that fl owed into the lake had a lower DOC content,higher molecular weight,and higher specifi c UV absorbance than the DOM in lake water.Protein-like fl uorophores were mainly found in tributary and lake surface water DOM(LSDOM)and humic-like substances were abundant in lake groundwater DOM(LGDOM).Using this multi-methodological approach,we found that the DOM from the hypersaline lake watershed was mainly from microbial origins,and consisted of aromatics,carbohydrates,and aliphatics.The results from quantitative analysis showed that DOM from the infl owing tributaries contained more aromatics,lower carbohydrates,and lower aliphatics than DOM in the lake.Monocyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and carbohydrates were more abundant in LSDOM than LGDOM.The results from the Pb(II)titration technique coupled with PARAFAC analysis suggested that PARAFAC-derived components had relatively low condition stability constants(log K_(M)<2).Of the two types of lake DOM,the LGDOM had a higher Pb(II)binding potential than the LSDOM.From this study we have improved our understanding of how DOM within a hypersaline lake watershed varies in its composition and potential to bind with metals.Keli YANG Yaoling ZHANG Yaping DONG Wu LI 2022Journal of Oceanology and Limnology2022,40,1:1
