| 2 | Endothelial cell-specific anticoagulation reduces inflammation in a mouse model of acute lung injury显示文摘Tissue factor (TF)-dependent coagulation contributes to lung inflammation and the pathogenesis of acute lung injury (ALI). In this study, we explored the roles of targeted endothelial anticoagulation in ALI using two strains of transgenic mice expressing either a membrane-tethered human tissue factor pathway inhibitor (hTFPI) or hirudin fusion protein on CD31^+ cells, including vascular endothelial cells (ECs). ALI was induced by intratracheal injection of LPS, and after 24 h the expression of TF and protease-activated receptors (PARs) on EC in lungs were assessed, alongside the extent of inflammation and injury. The expression of TF and PARs on the EC in lungs was upregulated after ALI. In the two strains of transgenic mice, expression of either of hTFPI or hirudin by EC was associated with significant reduction of inflammation, as assessed by the extent of leukocyte infiltration or the levels of proinflammatory cytokines, and promoted survival after LPS-induced ALI. The beneficial outcomes were associated with inhibition of the expression of chemokine CCL2 in lung tissues. The protection observed in the CD31-TFPI-transgenic strain was abolished by injection of an anti-hTFPI antibody, but not by prior engraftment of the transgenic strains with WT bone marrow, confirming that the changes observed were a specific transgenic expression of anticoagulants by EC. These results demonstrate that the inflammation in ALI is TF and thrombin dependent, and that expression of anticoagulants by EC significantly inhibits the development of ALI via repression of leukocyte infiltration, most likely via inhibition of chemokine gradients. | 6 | Comparative Skin Histology of Frogs Reveals High-elevation Adaptation of the Tibetan Nanorana parkeri显示文摘Adaptations to extreme environmental conditions are intriguing. Animal skin, which directly interacts with external environment, plays diverse and important roles in adaptive evolution. The thin and bare skin of amphibians is sensitive to external environmental conditions and, thus, it facilitates investigations into adaptations for living in extreme environments. Herein, we compare the structures of skin in four anuran species living at elevations ranging from 100 m to 4500 m to assess phenotypic innovations in the skin of Nanorana parkeri, which lives at extremely high elevations. Analyses reveal similar basic skin structures, but N. parkeri differs from the other species by having more epidermal capillaries and granular glands, which correlate highly with responses to hypoxia and/or ultraviolet(UV) radiation. Further intraspecific comparisons from frogs taken at ~4500 m and ~2900 m reveal that all of the changes are fixed. Changes occurring only in the higher elevation population, such as possessing more skin pigments, may represent local adaptations to coldness and/or UV radiation. | 14 | Template-mediated strategy to regulate hierarchically nitrogen-sulfur co-doped porous carbon as superior anode material for lithium capacity显示文摘Considering its rapid lithiation/delithiation process and robust capacitive energy storage,hierarchical porous carbon is regarded as a promising candidate for lithium-ion batteries(LIBs).However,it remains a great challenge to construct a porous structure and prevent structure stacking for carbon-based materials.Herein,a templatemediated approach is developed to synthesize hierarchical nitrogen-sulfur co-doped porous carbon(NSPC)using low-cost asphalt precursors.The strategy for synthesis uses g-C_(3)N_(4) and NaHCO_(3) as gaseous templates and NaCl as a solid template,which causes the formation of hierarchical porous carbon with a high specific surface area.The resultant porous structure and nitrogen-doping process can prevent the aggregation of nanosheets,maintain the structural stability upon cycling,and achieve rate-capable lithium storage.Serving as a LIBs anode,reversible specific capacities of the NSPC24 electrode reach 788 and 280 mAh·g^(-1) at 0.1 and 1 A·g^(-1),respectively.Furthermore,its specific capacity remains at 830 mAh·g^(-1) after 115 cycles at 0.1 A·g^(-1).Even after 500 cycles,high specific capacities of 727 mAh·g^(-1) at 0.5 A·g^(-1) and 624 mAh·g^(-1) at 1 A·g^(-1) are achieved,demonstrating excellent cycling performance.The gas-solid bifunctional template-mediated approach can guide the design of porous materials very well,meanwhile realizing the high value-added utilization of asphalt. | Yun LI Wang YANG Hanlin LIU Zhiqiang TU Sai CHE Bo JIANG Chong XU Guang MA Guoyong HUANG Yongfeng LI | 2022 | Frontiers of Materials Science2022,16,1: | 1 |

| 17 | Relationship between Dining Place, Iodine Source, and Iodine Nutrition in School-Age Children: A Cross-Sectional Study in China显示文摘Objective This study assesses the impact of iodine-rich processed foods and dining places on the iodine nutritional status of children.Methods School-aged children(SAC) in seven provinces in China were selected by school-based multistage sampling. Urinary iodine, salt iodine, and thyroid volume(TVOL) were determined. Questionnaires were used to investigate dining places and iodine-rich processed foods. The water iodine was from the2017 national survey. Multi-factor regression analysis was used to find correlations between variables.Results Children ate 78.7% of their meals at home, 15.1% at school canteens, and 6.1% at other places.The percentage of daily iodine intake from water, iodized salt, iodine-rich processed foods, and cooked food were 1.0%, 79.2%, 1.5%, and 18.4%, respectively. The salt iodine was correlated with the urinary iodine and TVOL, respectively(r = 0.999 and-0.997, P < 0.05). The iodine intake in processed foods was weakly correlated with the TVOL(r = 0.080, P < 0.01). Non-iodized salt used in processed foods or diets when eating out had less effect on children’s iodine nutrition status.Conclusion Iodized salt remains the primary source of daily iodine intake of SAC, and processed food has less effect on iodine nutrition.
