1DNA barcoding of 18 species of Bovidae显示文摘Genetic divergences of mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I genes,known as DNA barcodes,have been used in species identification in the animal kingdom.Barcodes can assist field workers and taxonomists to determine groups in need of taxa analysis,and facilitate the recognition of appropriate populations and scales for conservation planning.In this study,18 species of Bovidae were selected to evaluate the effectiveness of DNA barcoding for species differentiation.The results showed that all but 2 species had unique DNA barcodes.The mean intraspecific variation was 0.63%,yielding a threshold of 6.3% for flagging putative species.The results supported the inference that barcode variation within species of mammals is somewhat higher than within other animal groups.The present study validated the effectiveness of barcoding for the identification of bovid species.CAI YanSen ZHANG Liang SHEN FuJun ZHANG WenPing HOU Rong YUE BiSong LI Jing ZHANG ZhiHe 2011Chinese Science Bulletin2011,56,2:10
2Effect of dietary supplementation with sugar cane extract on meat quality and oxidative stability in finishing pigs显示文摘The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of dietary supplementation with sugar cane extract(SCE) on meat quality and oxidative stability of Longissimus dorsi muscle in finishing pigs.Eighteen barrows(Duroc × Landrace × Jiaxing Black), with an average initial body weight of 62.1 ± 5.0 kg,were randomly allotted to 1 of 3 diets with 6 replicates per treatment for 42 days. The diets comprised a normal diet and the normal diets supplemented with 5 and 25 g/kg SCE. The results showed that SCE supplementation did not affect final body weight of finishing pigs. Dietary SCE supplementation significantly increased(P < 0.05) Longissimus dorsi muscle pH_(24 h),and tended to reduce(P < 0.1) and significantly decreased(P < 0.05) shear force, drip loss, myofiber cross sectional area and lactate dehydrogenase activity at 5 and 25 g/kg, respectively. Meanwhile, dietary SCE treatments significantly decreased(P < 0.05) malonaldehyde content and total superoxide dismutase activity in Longissimus dorsi muscle, and tended to reduce(P < 0.1) malonaldehyde content in serum. 4Large-scale achromatic flat lens by light frequency-domain coherence optimization显示文摘Flat lenses,including metalens and diffractive lens,have attracted increasing attention due to their ability to miniaturize the imaging devices.However,realizing a large scale achromatic flat lens with high performance still remains a big challenge.Here,we developed a new framework in designing achromatic multi-level diffractive lenses by light coherence optimization,which enables the implementation of large-scale flat lenses under non-ideal conditions.As results,a series achromatic polymer lenses with diameter from 1 to 10mm are successfully designed and fabricated.The subsequent optical characterizations substantially validate our theoretical framework and show relatively good performance of the centimeter-scale achromatic multi-level diffractive lenses with a super broad bandwidth in optical wavelengths(400-1100 nm).After comparing with conventional refractive lens,this achromatic lens shows significant advantages in white-light imaging performance,implying a new strategy in developing practical planar optical devices.Xingjian Xiao Yunwei Zhao Xin Ye Chen Chen Xinmou Lu Yansen Rong Junhong Deng Guixin Li Shining Zhu Tao Li 2022Light(Science & Applications)2022,11,12:2

6Design and characterization of plasticized bacterial cellulose/waterborne polyurethane composite with antibacterial function for nasal stenting显示文摘A nasal stent capable of preventing adhesions and inflammation is of great value in treating nasal diseases.In order to solve the problems of tissue adhesion and inflammation response,we prepared plasticized bacterial cellulose(BCG)and waterborne polyurethane(WPU)composite with antibacterial function used as a novel nasal stent.The gelation behavior of BCG could contribute to protecting the paranasal sinus mucosa;meanwhile,the WPU with improved mechanical property was aimed at supporting the narrow nasal cavity.The thickness,size and the supporting force of the nasal stent could be adjusted according to the specific conditions of the nasal.Thermogravimetric analysis,contact angle and water absorption test were applied to investigate the thermal,hydrophilic and water absorption properties of the composite materials.The composite materials loaded with poly(hexamethylene biguanide)hydrochloride maintained well antibacterial activity over 12days.Animal experiments further revealed that the mucosal epithelium mucosae damage of BCG-WPU composite was minor compared with that of WPU.This new type of drug-loaded nasal stent can effectively address the postoperative adhesions and infections while ensuring the health of nasal mucosal,and thus has an immense clinical application prospects in treating nasal diseases.Zhaoxuan Feng Minglu Li Xing Jin Yudong Zheng Junxiu Liu Liang Zhao Yansen Wang Hao Li Danlin Zuo 2020Regenerative Biomaterials2020,7,6:1
7Analysis of Gene Networks for Arabidopsis Flowering显示文摘The flowering time of Arabidopsis is sensitive to climate variability, with lighting conditions being a major determinant of the flowering time. Long-days induce early flowering, while short-days induce late flowering or even no flowers. This study investigates the intrinsic mechanisms for Arabidopsis flowering in different lighting conditions using mutual information networks and logic networks. The structure parameters of the mutual information networks show that the average degree and the average core clearly distinguish these networks. A method is then given to find the key structural genes in the mutual information networks and the logic networks respectively. Ten genes are found to possibly promote flowering with three genes that may restrain flowering. 8Gut microbiota intervention attenuates thermogenesis in broilers exposed to high temperature through modulation of the hypothalamic 5‑HT pathway显示文摘Background Broilers have a robust metabolism and high body temperature,which make them less tolerant to hightemperature(HT)environments and more susceptible to challenges from elevated temperatures.Gut microbes,functioning as symbionts within the host,possess the capacity to significantly regulate the physiological functions and environmental adaptability of the host.This study aims to investigate the effects of gut microbial intervention on the body temperature and thermogenesis of broilers at different ambient temperatures,as well as the underlying mechanism involving the'gut-brain'axis.Methods Broilers were subjected to gut microbiota interference with or without antibiotics(control or ABX)starting at 1 day of age.At 21 day of age,they were divided into 4 groups and exposed to different environments for 7 d:The control and ABX groups at room temperature(RT,24±1℃,60%relative humidity(RH),24 h/d)and the control-HT and ABX-HT groups at high temperature(HT,32±1℃,60%RH,24 h/d).Results The results demonstrated that the antibiotic-induced gut microbiota intervention increased body weight and improved feed conversion in broiler chickens(P<0.05).Under HT conditions,the microbiota intervention reduced the rectal temperature of broiler chickens(P<0.05),inhibited the expression of avUCP and thermogenesisrelated genes in breast muscle and liver(P<0.05),and thus decreased thermogenesis capacity.Furthermore,the gut microbiota intervention blunted the hypothalamic‒pituitary‒adrenal axis and hypothalamic–pituitary–thyroid axis activation induced by HT conditions.By analyzing the cecal microbiota composition of control and ABX chickens maintained under HT conditions,we found that Alistipes was enriched in control chickens.In contrast,antibioticinduced gut microbiota intervention resulted in a decrease in the relative abundance of Alistipes(P<0.05).Moreover,this difference was accompanied by increased hypothalamic 5-hydroxytryptamine(5-HT)content and TPH2 expression(P<0.05).Conclusions These findings underscore the critical role of the gut microbiota in regulating broiler thermogenesis via the gut-brain axis and suggest that the hypothalamic 5-HT pathway may be a potential mechanism by which the gut microbiota affects thermoregulation in broilers.Sheng Li Xiaoqing Li Kai Wang Yansen Li Kentaro Nagaoka Chunmei Li 2024Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2024,15,2:0
9Heralded entanglement between error-protected logical qubits for fault-tolerant distributed quantum computing显示文摘Quantum error correction is essential for achieving reliable quantum information processing tasks,as it can mitigate the detrimental effects of noise by encoding single-qubit information into a larger quantum system.However,the generation of distributed entanglement between logical qubits located within two spatially separated nodes presents a significant resource-intensive challenge that has yet to be overcome.Here we present a heralded protocol for generating distributed entanglement between two nonlocal error-protected logical qubits.A high-dimensional single photon can evolve physical qubits into a logical qubit that entangles with the photon and then converts logical qubit-photon entanglement into entanglement between two logical qubits,when the photon state is properly tuned and an effective photon-spin interface between single photons and individual spins is exploited.Furthermore,the success of the entanglement generation is heralded by the detection of the photon,and the corresponding efficiency can,in principle,approach unity.These distinguished features make our protocol highly appealing for future large-scale quantum technologies.Jialun Li Zhihao Xie Yachen Li Yansen Liang Zhenhua Li Tao Li 2024Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2024,67,2:0
