1Anatomical and chemical characteristics associated with lodging resistance in wheat显示文摘Anatomical and chemical characteristics of stems affect lodging in wheat(Triticum aestivum L.) cultivars. Traits associated with lodging resistance, such as plant height, stem strength, culm wall thickness, pith diameter, and stem diameter, were extensively investigated in earlier studies. However, the solid stem trait was rarely considered. In this study, we measured a range of anatomical and chemical characteristics on solid and hollow stemmed wheat cultivars. Significant correlations were detected between resistance to lodging and several anatomical features, including width of mechanical tissue, weight of low internodes, and width of stem walls. Morphological features that gave the best indication of improved lodging resistance were increased stem width, width of mechanical tissue layer, and stem density. Multiple linear regression analysis showed that 99% of the variation in lodging resistance could be explained by the width of the mechanical tissue layer, suggesting that solid stemmed wheat has several anatomical features for increasing resistance to lodging. In addition, microsatellite markers GWM247 and GWM340 were linked to a single solid stem QTL on chromosome 3BL in a population derived from the cross Xinongshixin(solid stem)/Line 3159(hollow stem). 4Population genetic structure and demographic history of the Chinese endemic Mongoloniscus sinensis(Dollfus,1901) (Isopoda:Oniscidea)显示文摘The soil animal Mongoloniscus sinensis(Dollfus,1901) is distributed in Northern China together with three other congeneric species only found in Asia.Compared to European and North American Oniscidea,little phylogeographic information about this Asian genus has been reported.Herein,we infer the genetic structure and demographic history of M.sinensis based on mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I(mtCoI).The total dataset included 193 individuals from 26 locations in four provinces(Shanxi,Henan,Hebei and Shandong) of China.Most of the 87 haplotypes were unique to a sampling location,but seven haplotypes were shared among the populations.The results showed that high genetic differentiation exists both within populations and among the groups and populations of M.sinensis.According to the distribution of phylogenic clades and geographic analyses,it is suggested that mountain ranges play an important role in population separation and that the possible evolutionary trajectory of this species is from north to south.The most likely place of origin is the Northeast Plain of China with an estimated time of isolation separating populations around 8 Mya.Qiuping Zhao Eryan Shi Yue Li Renate Eberl Jianmei An 2016Zoological Systematics2016,41,4:0
5Analysis of Gene Networks for Arabidopsis Flowering显示文摘The flowering time of Arabidopsis is sensitive to climate variability, with lighting conditions being a major determinant of the flowering time. Long-days induce early flowering, while short-days induce late flowering or even no flowers. This study investigates the intrinsic mechanisms for Arabidopsis flowering in different lighting conditions using mutual information networks and logic networks. The structure parameters of the mutual information networks show that the average degree and the average core clearly distinguish these networks. A method is then given to find the key structural genes in the mutual information networks and the logic networks respectively. Ten genes are found to possibly promote flowering with three genes that may restrain flowering.
